The geo-widow and I are holidaying in Fiji (again) and today we were driving from Pacific Harbour, where we've stayed for a week, to our new holiday "home" at Denarau Island. Naturally, the caches along the route were on my agenda for the day.

This one proved to be a straightforward find. On arrival at the resort, I checked with the girl at reception that is was OK to go for a walk around the place and when I mentioned I was looking for a geocache, I got a knowing giggle from her. The search for the prize then didn't take long ... indeed, when I fired up my GPSr, I was surprised to find I was pretty much at GZ with the result that I had the cache in hand in just moments. All is good here.

Thanks for this cache ghostflite, and for another Fijian smiley.

Coral Coast Car-less Caching (Part 2 of 2)

2 Caches, 1 Afternoon, 5 Different Vehicles, about 100km travelled. Total cost $9.80 Fijian.

After finding "Coral Coast" I had one more cache on the hit-list for the afternoon. The internet now tells me that it was about 20km from "Coral Coast" to the "Hidden Lizard". I ended up travelling a bit further thanks to a very helpful bus driver.

Transport Method 4 - A small local bus. Cost = $3 Fijian. Distance Travelled 35km (?)

I was walking away from "Coral Coast" cache and saw a little mini bus cruising along the street. I flagged him down and asked "Are you heading back to the main road?" as I jumped on board.

He travelled around the various streets dropping off passengers and then asked me where I was going once I got to the main road. I explained that I need to get to the Gecko Resort near the Shangri-La entrance. "I am going that way after I pick up some more passengers" he said and encouraged me to stay on board. I grabbed a seat up the front and he pointed out some villages and roadside attractions along the way. We went East for a bit and headed into the village of Vatukarasa to pick up some more passengers. We were heading West again and then took a few detours via some local roads to grab some more passengers before arriving at the major riverside township of Sigatoka. I was about to get off but the driver said he was still continuing on further towards Nadi so I stayed on board. I looked at my GPSR and surely enough there was still a fair way to go. Another 10km of bus travel later and I was standing at the front driveway of the Shangri-La.

I wandered over the road to the Gecko resort passing a taxi driver along the way. He quoted me about $100 Fijian to get back to my resort (now over 40km away) but I pointed to the nearby bus stop and told him that I would catch a bus instead.

I headed over to the Gecko Resort grabbed the cache and then investigated the transportation options for going East again.

Transport Method 5 - A mini van. Cost = $2 Fijian. Distance Travelled 11km

I have to admit to not getting into the first mini-van that turned up as I was expecting a full sized bus. A couple of other people jumped in and as soon as he could pry the sliding door (which was refusing to slide) closed with a crow bar he headed off. One of the bloke from the Shangri-La resort was also waiting so I asked him about the minivans. It would cost a couple of dollars to get back to Sigatoka and there were plenty of larger buses there that I could catch. The next min-van that came along scooped us up and soon I was in Sigatoka near the markets.

Transport Method 6 - A big "express" bus. Cost = $2.80. Distance travelled 32km.

I wandered into the markets and had a look around. There was plenty of fruit and veggies to choose from as well as some tiny little stalls selling jewelry and trinkets. A bloke wanted to sell me some necklaces so I thought I would see if I could get a good price on something for my wife. I talked him down $13 to $25 for a necklace but still don't know if I got a bargain or not. A bus pulled up outside and it said "Express" so I jumped on board and paid $2.80 for the trip of over 30km back to the resort. The "express" bus wasn't really that much of an "express" as it's next stop was a school and it was soon filled with adult and kids who were to be dropped off at over 20 different stops along the way.

The bus stopped in front of the resort just before 5pm. I had been travelling around for just under 5 hours , found 2 caches and travelled over a hundred kilometers for $9.80 in Fijian dollars. A very memorable afternoon. Thanks for the cache Ghostflite.

Find number 1902.... so here is something you didn't know (or maybe did know) about 1902...... Ansel Adams was born on the 20th of February 1902. He was a well known photographer and environmentalist. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ansel_Adams

My fourth find in Fiji!

Unfortunately met a short stumbling block upon arrival as the 'new' staff member on reception had no idea what i was talking about and mangement were away for a week! Eventually found some other staff who knew exactly what the story was, and i gained access to GZ. Cache was a quick find, and everyone was very friendly (as usual of course Big Grin).
Found after a work-related visit to Fiji Cement in Lami, and a long drive back to Nadi on the Queen's Road. An interesting cacheing experience for sure.

Swapped a 'Geologo traveller' GC for the resident 'Hollywood' GC.

TFTC. SL TNLN Our first find in Fiji. We walked the .62 miles to the hide from our hotel in The ShangriLa in the rain. We took the last coupon for a free beverage, but we ended up not using it because we could not get a reservation for dinner as they were all booked up for night and the next night.

Wow!!! Now we also got a cache in Fiji Smile Thanks so much - for hiding, for showing the interesting place and even for choice of such a beautiful hotel for our last Fiji night. Geocache finding us great place to stay - so funny. Without this cache we would have never end up here Smile staff is great and although raining we just had a swim in pool and will enjoy the free drink at the bar now. We love Fiji, countryside, sea, birds, sounds, pure nature and especially the warm welcoming, polite people and their culture! We found something in this country within seven days, which we didn't found during a 35 days travel through USA! Love to stay longer but flight to Sydney will depart tomorrow. But plan to come again on way back home. Bula vinaka. Team Tinwolf Smile

We started in the morning from our hotel at Nadi on a two day tour to the Coral Coast. This was the first cache for the day. We parked the car outside the resort and walked in to the nice garden. The cache was quickly found and logged.
Thanks for the cache and greetings from two Swedish cachers.

Took the opportunity to get our first overseas cache while in Fiji on a family holiday. Took an early morning walk from the Shangri La Resort. Easy enough find once at GZ, as there was no one around. Had a look through the Bure at some of the traditional weapons which were very interesting.

We had had an awesome time in Fiji and hope to be back in the future.

BULA

First time in Fiji on a holiday and this was our first cache in your country. Staying across the road in the other resort didn't keep me down for long and was soon over the road to Gecko. My expectation was that this cache was to be our only cache on our holiday with airport to resort booked with return transfers didn't leave much room for exploring. As it happens we went on to get 2 others but that is part of another (as yet unwritten) log. Planning our trip from Melboure Australia, this was my trip primary target, my Queen's primary target was the beach and pool (I know priorities). So the day after, I made the walk over the causeway followed by some other Aussies returning to Gecko and had a good chat with them. My first impressions of Gecko was it was a lot quieter with not many people around but it was getting on in the day so I guess many would be getting ready for dinner etc... Arriving at GZ...ish I circumnavigated a structure a few times as my GPS settled down and then the cache was soon in my hands, signed the log and inserted 2 TBs that we had collected to this trip. Frustratingly we had launched a new TB of our own for the trip but it wasn't in my GPS bag... had I dropped it on the walk? had I left it in the room? had I left it at home? did I drop it on the hunt? all these thoughts running through my head as I retraced my steps around Gecko... in the process I was greeted by staff in the restaurant and had a look at the menu and a look around some more before returning across the road (still looking for our TB) to eager geoprinces and my Queen ready for dinner.. (who pointed out our new TB was with the travel documents) [she always knows best].

Our thanks for the cache and giving us the opportunity to cache on our holiday. In TB "Picasso Junior" and TB "Sondra's geo-stamp"

We are staying at the resort so I decided to look for this cache on the first full day of our holiday. It took a minute or two to locate the container; the cache is nicely hidden and in immaculate order.

Most earlier finders seem to have overlooked an opportunity that I have never previously utilised as a result of geocaching. I am enjoying my free cold beer as I type Cool.

I have several reasons for awarding a favourite. TVMFTC.

This cache helped me get my mojo back.

I have been so lazy over winter to cache. To cold, to wet, to lazy.

After staying a week over the road at the Shangria la, I had no excuse to NOT do this cache.
I forgot the thrill of finding a cache, I have the need for the hunt again.

Thank you ghostflite [:x]

Nice one...we stayed for onevweek at the beachhouse and came over for the cache

Nice find while staying across the road at Shangri-La. It's about a 15 min walk from Shangri-La reception.
People here say the restaurant where the cache is located is worth visiting. Didn't see any staff but was easy to access the grounds.
BYO pen, the cache's one is rusty and doesn't work.
Took nothing, left a couple of Aussie coins.

Had finished at a conference and decided to escape the resort for the day - and do what we enjoy best - caching and exploring new countries!

Pleased to start our day with this easy find.

Whilst we were looking around GZ, we were approached by a worker, introduced ourselves, and we had a good chat with him. This was to prove to be a common theme throughout the day - locals were so friendly and made our day that more enjoyable.

We had passed by this cache when heading to Pacific Harbour last week when it was nice and sunny but after 5 days of wind and rain, it was time for us to make our way back to Nadi for our flight home. The sun had finally started to come out while we were here and we had a good look around the exhibit (which in some respects had a better display than at the Suva Museum). The GPSr wasn't being particularly helpful until we eventually started walking back to the reception area to ask for help when it decided to co-operate and suggest a useful ground zero. The cache was then easily located and with the log signed, it was time for us to make our way to our hotel for the night. Thank you for having placed the cache Ghostflite

We searched this for a while but nothing. We asked help from reception and they called for the manager.
They had noticed that the cache had been exposed to water, and it was under maintenance. We dry the cache, and we wrote our names in the log book. Very friendly staff and nice resort.
Greetings from Finland.

Thank you very much for leading us to this interesting and wonderful place. We had nice time here. The cache is in goood condition. The Hide ist worth a favorite point. Kind Regards.

Found this cache on our way back to the airport after spending a week at the Outrigger resort. Our "taxi" driver was a little surprised when I asked him to stop the car (perhaps I should have given him some warning, but where's the fun in that), and then a quick exit and short jog to GZ.

The cache was quickly found (once I located the path around the building) and then a quick walk back to the car. Glad to get my second find in Fiji and that the taxi waited.

Today we hired a car and headed from Nadi to Sigatoka. We were hoping to catch the Puffing Cota in action, but missed it by 20 minutes and by the time we got into Sigatoka it was already there. The cache itself was an easy find, and the staff were leased that we had dropped in to find it. They gave Zac a piece of bread to find the fish. Well worth the stop.
