Thanks for placingNight caching by full moonFound with Bluewattle Mini, chamad, Snickersallan and Granny Smith 1947
Today was a very early start with a drive to the airport for a 6 am flight to Cairns and day one of our North Queensland geocaching trip.Snickersallan and I were met at the airport by Grannysmith and Bluewattle. The bags were thrown into the car and we were off for a day of adventure. First off it was up to Kuranda, then across to Mareeba, down to Atherton and Millaa Millaa. It was then over to Innisfail before working our way back to Cairns, to arrive just in time for the night time event. It was nice to see a couple of locals turn up to the event, thank you. After the event we were not done for the day, we jumped in the car and headed off to grab a few more around town. This was one I spotted as it stood out being a letterbox. Hmm silly me had to brave the bush in the dark to find the cache. We signed the log, replaced all the way we found it and then continued on our way. Thanks for the hide and the placement.
Travelling around the local districts with geo friends for a few days and enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way whilst visiting some places for the very first time.Thank you, walterhellmut, for placing this letterbox cache for our benefit and enjoyment.

We’ve had the coordinates to this one for a while and made the trek today to find it. Unfortunately for us, we took the very hard way to GZ (not realising that there was a much, much easier way). It was all worth it as GZ was amazing and we were happy to have made the find and added our name to the log. TFTC
This cache was on my list of ‘Cairns To Find’, while I’m up here with muggle-hubby who is playing basketball in the Great Barrier Reef Masters Games. I needed a letterbox for a couple of Challenges that I’m working on.
Having worked on the coordinates, I headed up to where I thought the cache may be. I looked around amongst the weeds and grass for a fair while, trying to locate GZ as per earlier photos. After deciding that I may have been in the wrong spot, I wandered further away to another location where I found a cache. I’m not sure if it is this letterbox cache, but it is definitely a cache, which I signed and returned as found. thanks Walterhellmut for the climb this afternoon

Found on our second visit with more time, cache was being guarded by a dancing spider and I could hear the water tanks pumping. Tftc
I had worked out the location of the cache before I arrived and headed straight to the search area. I searched for quite a while and made a PAF call which didn't help and then searched again and this time I located the cache.

Although we couldn’t quite get our numbers to agree with the checker for this field puzzle, it looked like a likely spot on the map, and so we decided to give it ago.
As it turns out, we were not too far off the numbers and with a slightly wider search soon had to the prize in our hands.
Thanks walterhellmut for all the geocaching fun you have provided for us here in Cairns.

Having what I thought was a good set of coordinates for GZ, Pa and I set out in search of this cache as I needed it to add to a Challenge cache (only one more to go) and to complete another. Our trouble started when Pa decided to go straight up the shortest route. I got to within 70m of GZ and was told to turn around as it was too steep and too slippery. First I handed my phone to Pa so he knew where he was going then slowly made my way back down.
What to do? After walking about 150 m up a likely looking path I returned to the car and managed to phone Pa on his tablet as he had both phones! Bad move that.
He was still at the GZ as described but couldn't find it after about 15 minutes of hunting. Not prepared to give up I said that I was coming up, so I set off up the walking path again but soon realised it was going the wrong way so I went straight up the hill beside some houses. When I say straight up, I mean straight up over three tiers, clinging to creepers and using the base of trees as footholds. Oh so stupid!! But I eventually made it to the tanks.
Trying to visualise the map I started searching but realised after some time that I was between what I will call tanks 1 and 2 instead of between 2 and 3. I had searched both sides of the road and even yelled out to Pa - useless, he is half deaf! So I continued along the road that was there and started back down the hill turning left hoping to find a rock. Instead I found Pa who was just replacing the original cache that he had found under masses of rotting leaves and twigs. He was also on the phone to Joolay who was helping out but we believe that she had found the replacement cache. No worries there as it had encouraged Pa to persevere and find a cache and log that we could sign.
Thanks for this huge adventure walterhellmut but I guess you won't be surprised to hear that we followed the road back down and were soon in our car heading home for lunch. It certainly filled in a morning for us with a great sense of achievement so have a FP.

After the multi nearby we decided we needed more exercise and went back down to the car and the track only to come back up a little further up the road from where we just were. Doh!
Found the spoiler location but no cache so I replaced the container. It could still be there under all the leaf litter. Happy to delete this log if that turns out to be the case.
Thanks Walterhellmut for creating and placing this for us to enjoy.

Not wanting to ignore the no entry construction site, I averted my eyes in passing and wandered up to the final waypoint i’d projected and got a green light on. Found the Staghorn and searched around. Narrowing it down quickly as nature doesn’t often provide that sort of a clean cut. Signed the log and replaced, taking and leaving nothing as my last trackable i had has been handed over to visit HQ. Thanks Walterhellmut for another. Won’t be the last of yours I find, i’m sure.

We took off early this morning to grab a pair of letterboxes before planned afternoon activities, nabbing them and a small collection of others before heading back. We were shown some good spots today, so thanks for the caches....
No problems here, after the DNF down the hill. There was a contractor exiting the road as we walked up, gave us the thumbs up to walk up the road, despite the menacing signs. A quick find at GZ thanks to accurate coordinates/calculations. We enjoy these puzzles - thanks....

Was looking at different types of caches before our trip and this one stood out as the closest letterbox to where we would be so solved it before we left.
This morning before our trip to Green Island I had just enough time to get to the cache but as I arrived I was greeted with a 'Under Construction - Do Not Enter' sign so thought the cache of grabbing it had disappeared.
I decided to drive to a nearby solved puzzle just around the corner and realised I was actually closer to this one than before. I asked a local who confirmed you could access the area but the T rating was a little higher than intended. When I arrived I saw and heard someone on top but they didn't see me. Made the find quickly and escaped back down the same way. TFTC.

Cairns trip 2019. Day 16. Today was the day allocated to caching around Cairns. I tried, but the rain kept coming in waves and cutting my enthusiasm for delving into long grass or up steep hills. I did manage a few fun caches though. I under estimated this one. I was happy with projecting the waypoint and was trying to find a way up when a path presented itself. Then it ran out, so it was straight up. Happily at GZ everything went smoothly, I was a bit surprised after my unorthodox ascent. The way down was much simpler, wouldn't you know it there was a road. I had missed it as it was closed. Then getting back to the car was another problem, but I made it.
Thanks.

On my three weeks’ leave in Australia I should like to see many of interesting things, a great nature also many animals unknown as well as known.
The distances are so huge, so we drive only one week by car and have three national flights.
I start in Melbourne then drive the Great Ocean Road to Adelaide, perhaps the Kangaroo Island, flight to Alice Springs to see the Uluru from there, two day camping in the outback,
flight to Cairns the Great Barrier Reef and flight to Sydney to see the Fireworks at Sylvester on the Harbour Bridge.
It is a busy plan, I hope it works.
This is my first cache in Australia, I plan to make not so many caches I like, because the time is very short to make it all, LOL.
Many apologies for the unit log.
I say thank you to all the cache owners for maintenance.
Greetings from South Germany.

This morning I went up to replace the missing stamp. I even tried to put the fallen off Staghorn back to its original place.
When I was on a holiday in Cairns five years ago, I worked out a solution for this cache... waypoint projection apps are very handy! The only thing was that, as much as I love Letterbox caches, somehow I never found the time to go looking for it... and still didn't when I was back here for another holiday last year.
*Enough is enough*, I decided... five years sitting *Solved caches to be found list* was more than enough so I wasn't going to go home this year without having a go. So up early this morning for drive across from Palm Cove... to be followed by a short stroll up an easy path. With good coordinates and a *Staghorn* to guide me, I quickly had the cache in hand. I signed the log with my *letterbox stamp* and left a GeoCoin for someone to pick up and take travelling.
Thanks **walterhellmut** for this Letterbox cache... just a minor pity that it doesn't have a stamp any more...

I noted the Owner Maintenance log that there is a replacement cache, so while I was driving past, I stopped off to finally get to sign this log.
I was fist to sign new log book, yippee, a first for me!
I took nothing, but left a games coin from Gold Coast amusement park, a memento from my home city.

This morning we took our umbrellas and walked in drenching rain to the Staghorn Fern. We hid a replacement cache where it should not get so very wet[?].
Everything should be alright now[^].

I have never been that successful with caches that require the calculation of new coordinates based on a Range and Bearing. (Due to my GPS tiny screen and imprecise rocker switch being NOT accurate enough for task.)
However with this cache, the instructions stated to look for the staghorn fern at the projected location. With an object to find, I was guessing the imprecise projection would be good enough.
So yes I was able to find the staghorn fern near the projected location. But a detailed search of all the rocks around the staghorn fern revealed NO cache.
I note the last searcher also failed to find the cache, so I am guessing the cache has been muggled.

I replaced the muggled container. The cache is ready again to be found.

Found the GZ easy enough but when i got there the cupboard was bare.... NO CACHE. Needs maintenance. cheers
Did my offset then went for a pleasant walk to GZ. Found the Staghorn, didn't find the cache.
Another one done. Yay! I love the challenge of the geocache cache hunt - read the notes, decipher the cache requirements, and go searching for the hide. This is an amazing world wide game of hide and seek. I love it!

After a proper Swedish breakfast at Cafe Fika in the city I set of for this letterbox.
A drizzle this cool morning as I walked towards GZ. Was unsure at one stage but then I thought, What would CO do? and the answer was clear to me in an instant.
A very fine specimen at the final location.
Took a TB that has been in here a long time

We came here just because of the letterbox type but the view proved to be worth seeing! Also the staghorn fern looked pretty interesting. TFTC!
If you set off in the morning, wear shoes, the lure of a rare exotic cache type, promise the shops later and don't divulge the terrain ratings you can get less willing geofamily up steep hills. They even enjoyed the view when we pointed out Central and DFO!. Thanks for the puzzle and cache, hammered home the stamp from 'the hammer shop' walterhellmut.

Not sure if business attire & high heels were optimum caching attire, but finished a conference in Woree & needed this type to complete our August souvenirs, so away we went. Glad to get this one, TNLN, TFTC.
So after a heap of attempts at trying to solve this one I finally got the green light by geochecker and off we went. Pulled up and started the ascent up to GZ that was not fun after getting over pneumonia. The hill up was hard but we made it and a find was done. TFTC.
Thankfully geodad was able to solve this one and I tagged along to help find it with him. A huge walk up the hill that was hard on him due to illness but a cache is all he wanted. TFTC

Finally the day had come that is the reason why we came to Australia. Today is the wedding between Lisa from Sweden and Ben from Cairns, Australia.
Well the wedding wasn't until the afternoon which gave me two hours or so for geocaching .
The parking coordinates made this cache really great. (As a foreigner it could be hard to know where you are allowed to park.)
After parking it didn't took Long before I had the final coordinates and knew where to go.
The Staghorn fern where really nice to see. That kind of fern can't be found in Sweden .
Thanks for the cache and greetings from Sweden

7 of 8 on this beautiful and mild autumn day. Out and about again with my good GC friend Walterhellmut. did not find the glasses (by now obsolete anyway). good location amongst all the modern art in this strange 'art gallery'. kwik find as two switched on minds were on a mission ... +/-0. T4TC.
Avoloz took me to this cache again. It was OK. However, there were quite a few more artworks to be admired on the way.

# 955 C+2M Annual Camp/Cache trip north.
Last year we did this trip before christmas and spentt a couple of days working our way up the coast. We made it to Cairns but only overnight and had to head home. Unfortunatly, this time we only have two days so intend to go straight to Cairns with limited diversions. We are hunting quality instead of quantity. He identified 10 caches in Cairns and surrounding areas with D/T combinations that we are yet to find.
Time to rack up some of these D/T we are after. This is actually our third visit here for this cache. Once while on holiday, I had a spare 15 minutes and decided to check it out. Once I realised it wasn't a simple walk to post co-ord and grab, I aborted the attempt. I solve the problem and had a set of co-ords, so last Christmas, the monkeys and I arrived here only to discover that the co-ords were not loaded correctly. We tried to search the area but failed to find the cache. Turns out my guestimations were 20 meters out.
Today, with confirmed co-ords loaded, we walked straight to GZ and claimed an easy find.

We finally made it to Cairns! Today was our big day out around town so I took the opportunity to grab this one. I had solved this one a while before while in preparation for the trip. A bit of a walk from the parking coords to the cache but that was alright. I am SO glad that my dad tagged along otherwise it would have taken me a lot longer to find the cache. After I told him the hint he basically pointed out the hide straight away. Thanks dad ! An interesting hunt and one off my to do list while in Cairns. TNLNSL TFTC walterhellmut!

So somehow, on my previous visits to Cairns, this letterbox had escaped my attention. We can't have that - can we?
My little GPSr is excellent at sorting caches like this. I parked up at the given co-ords (being careful not to cover the sign - good advice!) and made my way into the area. Thankfully, it was very abandoned early this morning. I huffed and puffed and finally arrived at my co-ords. Hmmm.
I hunted about. I went all terrain 4 on it. Nada. Then I (eventually) remembered the name of the cache. Uh duh. It was still not an immediate find. I found it an area that I was surprised in. I will email the cache owner about this.
But the cache is all fine and in good condition. Thanks for the early morning exercise and the letterbox, walterhellmut. TFTC

2225. This was another cache on the "must do" list while on a family holiday in Cairns. I wasn't disappointed. A short sharp stroll up the hill and the treasure was soon discovered. No problems with the ants today. Thanks WH for the cache.
I was out with my Geo-host today in Cairns and I had heard about one of Walter's famous caches up on the hill so I couldn't resist. Especially as it was one of the elusive Letterbox Caches.

Awesome Staghorn, beautiful thing . The outside of the cache box has some vicious guardians, a nest of ants and their bite/sting is painful even worse than a wasp sting, they may be fire ants!! Had a few bites so got out quicksticks but not before signing the log

Found this cache while out Geocaching with BlondeAtTheRoots. Visiting Australia to dive the Great Barrier Reef and see the solar eclipse. Quick find once we got our bearings, but the cache was much more involved than we had anticipated. Found this cache while out Geocaching with BlondeAtTheRoots. Visiting Australia to dive the Great Barrier Reef and see the solar eclipse. Quick find once we got our bearings, but the cache was much more involved than we had anticipated. Expected a road side cache as we were too exhausted for another hike... oh, well... at's do it anyways.

Found on the 2012 Tour de Eclipse. Cache found after a nice stroll up the hill. Great views.
Found on the great Eclipse Trip of 2012 with Freddo.
A day of caching in the tablelands where I found a few caches and ticked off my monotremes-seen-in-the -wild list. Happy chappy. [^]
A quick calculation saw us at GZ after a short uphill bit of exercise. Top views. I STAMPED the log.
Thanks to walterhellmut and clear skies from TeamAstro.

I really thought about using this cool place as a base for the upcoming solar eclipse as the view over Cairns bay is really impressive! The cache was easy to find - in contrast to any glasses.
As always, I chose the hardest way to tackle this one. After arriving near GZ, spent quite a while looking in the wrong spot, got filthy from s recent fire. I didn't have a proper compass, and the compass on my GPSr is useless. I eventually had a brainstorm and was able to find this one very easily. TNLNSL.
Great views from up here.

From the parking area, I took the walking track instead of the access road. Still managed to arrive at the same location, just took the more rugged approach. Once I stumbled onto the access road, it didn't take long to gather my bearings and head off in the right direction. Cache in great condition. Great view out across Cairns on the path. Thanks Walter for another great cache. TFTC TNLN SL {#85}.

Decided to drop in for a few caches late in the afternoon as I had some time to fill in before mrsbiggles58 was ready for her appointment. After solving the mysterious Walter code, I set off, and to my satisfaction found the cache exactly where I had projected it to be. Terrific views from up here. Bang on Walter and thanks for bringing us here. SL. THLN
quick and easy find on a Sunday morning stroll, but sorry Walter no glasses to be found

FTF - Sorry Walter, no luck finding your glasses, but I did manage to find the cache from the clues you had provided.
A lovely spot with some nice views and a cool breeze. The dominant sound heard however was the pile driver belting away over at Ray Jones Drive.
I did notice a stamp in this cache. It looked similar to a stamp last seen at a recent Townsville caching Event.
The geocoin in the cache also looked familiar, so I left it for a future finder. While I left nothing I did visit with two geocoins that will soon be heading overseas.
Thanks for this new cache.
