Hello. Your pad in this cache is full. We have added a small post it note in there for the time being.
WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 131 - Katherine Day 4. As this was my last day in own, I just had to get out. It happily coincided with a big jump in how I was getting on, so off I went. I found some breakfast and then went and did the Murals Labs along railway terrace. I would have liked to see a train through the middle of town. I then went out of town a bit to try for one old DNF and a few other caches before heading back to the van and hoping I did not overdo it, causing issues tomorrow when I begin heading south. Just of the road these huge boulders are not really apparent from very far off. The plaque on the front of the boulder was a surprise. I bit of bad luck I suppose. I wandered around to where the GPS was saying and was happy to spy the cache without any problems. Thanks for the cache bluejasper48984.2 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & February 2021 Revival Geocoin A#436**Albida**
Sad location for a quick find dodging green ants.Freddo and e.gregory1 were heading up the middle of Australia following Stuart's well trodden route. We were travelling in air conditoned comfort and style. No stale food. No camels to carry water. We were leaving the cold winter for the northern season.Today was the day to find this cache. Today is the twentieth and ninth day of Julius Caesar's Month in the wonderful year of twenty twenty four. We found your cache container and added some inky stuff to the paper sheet or note pad you have supplied for a log book or scroll. The cache container and log book or scroll were in good condition. It was a cool cloudy and raining. No wind today. With the log signed and the cache replaced it was time to leave. Onwards to the next cache. Woot, that is not to far.I would like to show my respect and acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Land, and their continuing connection to it. I wish to pay my respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past, present and emerging.I will apologize right now, because everything from here on is here solely for the purpose of padding the word count and winning that one hundred word diamond badge again. Somebody moved the goal posts. So many caches to find. So many caches to log. We find them, sign them and replace them. This particular geocache was found using one of the following GPS enabled devices, Garmin GPSr, Montana 680t, Oregon 650 or Dakota 20 and an Apple iPhone 11 using the marvelous Cachly app. Waypoints and paperless geocaching were downloaded via GSAK 9. Log prepared, checked and submitted using GSAK publish logs macro.Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun. Apologies for the generic part of the cache log. We do apologise for the generic logs. Thanks to all the cache owner for placing this cache here for our enjoyment. Thanks for the cache. Merci la cache. Danke fr den Cache. Gracias por el cach. Amazing story, FP. We found your cache today 30 June 2024 12:24pm , while enjoying another day in our beautiful countryside. TFTC bluejasper
On our travels we stopped to grab this cache, a very interesting spot in history, thanks for being us here
Veni. Vidi. Vici. Scripsi.
Had to head into town for fuel, and as I passed by on the way back to our accommodation, I stopped by to make the find. On the way to GZ, passed the plaque that is the reason for this cache, and was surprised. I knew that Katherine was bombed, but was not aware of what the casualties involved. Interesting cache and learnt a bit as a result. Fave for this one.

Travelling with richlink on a trip from Perth to Darwin and returning through the centre to SA and home again. Although we were aware of the bombing of Dawin, we didn't know that Katherine was also bombed.
Thanks for the cache bluejasper.
Thanks for the cache bluejasper.
Travelling with iluvtrekking exploring northern coast of WA and the NT. Spending a few days in Katherine which is our first visit. Quick find - thanks for the hide.
Day 42 of our greynomad trip up north and after a the JLWEvents, a tour of Maralinga and caching to claim LGAs in the Eyre Peninsula, we are attempting to escape the southern weather that has been wet and windy.
Today we visited this beautiful outcrop of rocks and and learnt and combined with the Museum nearby learnt of the bombs that hit Katherine - a piece of history I didn't know.

As part of our Northern Territory trip, Ms Atalanta and I made it to Katherine where we found this cache. It was an easy find. You have to be sorry for poor old Dodger really..

Avery sad story which I heard more about while in Darwin. RIP. Quickly spotted by applying the Where Would I Hide A Cache Here? principle. TNLN-TFTC. I paid my respects & left.

Found this one easily. It’s a really interesting spot and I wonder if some of the damage or pockmarks on the rocks are from the bombing or is that just me making a huge assumption? TFTC, have a FP for the place of interest. I’m now sitting at coffee club and there’s a plaque out front recognising the bombing of Katherine there on the footpath.
It took a few walks around the big rock to find it, but got there. TFTC and location
Driving down to Katherine today and detouring through Litchfield National park. A lot of the areas were closed off so made good time through the park TFTH
After a lovely walk out to butterfly gorge this morning which meant we also had a great swim, we stopped here on the way back into Katherine. We had no idea of the history here, and so it was great to read the description and also information at the rock.
A lovely place for a hide, and very sad to read about the life lost here.
Thanks bluejasper

Last full day in Katherine today, were bugging out sometime in tomorrow morning (heading for Mataranka) so it’s revisit time to the Cutta Cutta Caves and then some geocaching around town. Might squeeze another swim in at the hot springs in as well it time permits.
On my way to the springs, in a round about fashion…
**Thanks for placing this cache bluejasper**

Great bit of history, its a shame when people die and are forgotten, so this is a good spot. Until we came to the Northern Territory we had no idea there was so much of the war that came to Australia, they should teach more about this in schools!!
Apparantely Mrs Kookas uncle was on the airfield in Darwin when they were bombed, he was driving a tractor and was very annoyed it wouldnt go any faster but he needed to take the tractor off the field before it was destroyed.
Thanks bluejasper for the cache and an insight into some local history. Found it, signed it, and replaced as found. TNLN

Extremely interesting history. I didn't realise bombing was this far south. TFTC photo of log.
I saw the photograph of the log. Definitely signed the (or, a) log. I don't cheat!! So where is my signature? Otherwise I do DNFs, as I did (an example) for ' Dog’s Head Re visited' nearby, for my second DNF there.
This took me a fair bit of searching, but finally I found it where my GPS was showing six metres. TFTC bluejasper.
Catching up on some late logs, now that I have time, while travelling.
We are on the road travelling up through central Australian and down the coast of WA. I hope to grab a few caches along the way.
A different look at history. Found while staying nearby.
Thanks bluejasper for placing this cache and doing the maintenance, so we can enjoy finding it.

Found heading back to camp after visiting Katherine Gorge. Love to read about the history of the area. A sad spot worth visiting. TFTC
Found at 1:35:00 PM(t) GAFF1.
We knew that other towns other than Darwin were bombed by the Japanese, but to find an actual location is fascinating. Didn't notice and shrapnel marks and also didn't notice the cache - apart from a Rosewater Essence bottle that now has a log sheet in it and is placed at the base of the middle rock covered by pieces of bark.
Thanks bluejasper.

Great to be able to find this geocache.
Finally a chance to catch up with putting a smiley here, not often do I get a chance on the computer

SJG66 and I spent a few days in Katherine enjoying the local scenery and the caches. Thanks to all the local CO's.
Visiting from Adelaide to escape the cold and enjoy your wide open spaces. Easier than I thought but lots of rustling in the dry bush around me
Cache and log book OK. TFTC

We had a lovely morning collecting smilies on our drive back from the gorge and this is a cache we found. The little one revealed itself quite quickly. All good here. We put a new log in the container. Thanks for the cache Bluejasper.
I never knew this about Katherine. I would have driven past this without ever knowing.
Poor old Dodger. He didn’t dodge enough unfortunately. RIP mate.
Very interesting site and I’m happy there is a decent memorial to this incident.
