Spent a while looking for this one but to no avail! Will need to try again another day!

24-Nov-22
While down here on holidays we decided to find a few random ones to get an idea of the area. We'll return again another day to find more and explore.
It was an easy and enjoyable walk to GZ. All was good with the cache.

Found it.
Lots of trees down in the area made it a bit more cozy under the doona

From 23.09 until 24.11.2019 Stadibast and I spent our holidays in Australia.
During the first four weeks we drove with a camper van from Darwin to Perth along the West coast and its amazing national parks, in which we made several hiking tours.
After that we flew to the wonderful green Tasmania for a roundtrip lasting two weeks.
For the last three weeks we went back to the continent and followed the South-East-Coast from Melbourne to Sydney.
We had impressive nine weeks in Australia, in which we hiked through various national parks, visited interesting sights and met many friendly and helpful people.
Thanks to all owners for setting and maintaining their caches.

A quick find on approach to gz after finding the multi near by.

I am currently writing detailed logs because of a challenge provided by Project-GC. "The Author" Badge challenges geocachers to average one hundred words or more in each log. Given that I have found so many GC caches, I have to write many logs with well over 100 words for a long period of time to get my average to the target. Apologies to anyone who finds the logs tedious but it is the only way that I can strive to attain this challenge. After over 5000 plus caches (which includes all cache finds up and including yesterday), the average log length is just over 70 words. I am now entertaining the possibility that I might be able to achieve my task before the end of next year. It's surprising how much is has increase since doing this.

Nice stroll up penstock ladder past mountain goat multi and onto this cache, all before it pours on us! Lol tftc

07-Oct-18
Having walked down to the old power station, we crossed over and headed up the steps to here. It turned out to be a quick find and we managed to spot a wallaby too.

Thanks to thomarter for placing this cache.

Looked for a while but no luck.

13-May-18
Unfortunately I DNF for this one looked and looked with AddisonPascal. Saw I little fern but no cache
Maybe next time

20-Feb-18
As I was checking a nearby DNF cache I thought I'd walk on to this one as I was so close. All is in good order except that a finder had placed the container 1/2m away under some rocks - not under - as the name implies- a doona made by Nature. It's now back exactly where it should be snug and warm with it's 'doona' over the top!

16-Feb-18
I was enjoying a stroll around the reserve today Smile
And as usual was following the GPS more often than actual trails Big Grin
Much more fun that way !!
I like mixing a bit of orienteering with me caching.

And here at GZ,
under the blanket,
a cache was soon revealed Big Grin

Took me a while but eventually found it when I just started looking in places that might be good to hide things in-the gps was not settling so I just had to be cache savvy! Thanks for all the exercise thomarter.

Tasmanian holiday geocache number 11 - and probably last - Cateract Gorge

We arrived early and the kids delighted in making me walk across the bridge at the first basin while they tried their hardest to make it wobble - I'm not keen on wobbly bridges but not actually as scared as they think, but it makes them laugh.
We return across the bridge and take a path deeper into the gorge, which is well paved and easy walking. The path passes a geocache but I miss the point where you head off the path so decided to get it on the way back. We press on and I spy one on the phone which is apparently just across another bridge so we decided to go for that one. We cross, another bridge of limited stability- more giggles while trying to make me scared, and we are surprised by a charming historical display in the power station building. Muggle hubby looks at that while I take pictures of scenery, he emerges and asks if I went and got it? Ah. No. But I will now. I look at my phone and it's bizarrely further away now we crossed the river. I mount the steps with geokid 8 and go up... And up... And up.... I check the phone but we seem to be getting no closer. Still we ascend, on and on. A wallaby crosses our path! Wow! I grab a picture and we keep going. My heart rate gets to 161 and I suspect my face is Beetroot red. We finally reach some sort of midden and I realise we are at the top. I check the phone- we are about 5 meters or so closer so we trek into the bush. We finally reach GZ and locate the cache. We make a swap and sign the log- I must find out what all these Tassies use for logbooks as they are ideally sized, like a miniature raffle ticket book but not perforated. We head back and about half way down the steps I get the "where are you?" Call from muggle hubby who is a bit bored. We get down and cross the bridge and head back up the other side of the gorge before "SNAKE!" The kids spot a middle sized snake on the path. I can see it's going some so I tell them all to stop still and let it go where it's headed. It passes by and we head back along to the recreational area near the Carpark. My Fitbit registered 108 floors climbed - so a good little walk! I never did get the other cache as they were all tired and no-one had the patience to wait for me.

Thanks for the holiday, Tasmania, it's been a blast!

Travelling around Australia and spending a few months in Tasmania.

Out on the GeoBike to knock over a few more of these caches. Thankfully no snakes came to visit today but oh such a bouncy rough ride! The GeoBike is not a mountain bike! Reckon there will be many aches and pains tomorrow! Surprised Talk about rock'n roll'n ridin'. Red Face

Looking forward to meeting local cachers at the Event on Saturday.

After "cleaning up" the northern section of the reserve, the focus switched to the "Hoo Hoo" end for a few more. This one had been visited back in May with little success. You know how annoying DNF's are when they can't be blamed on muggles? The "must find" reading just skyrockets. So when the CO posted one or two additional hints it was firmly on the radar. Interestingly, with the added info I walked straight to it & had CiH inside a minute. What's more, after signing the log, the GPS was telling me I was within 3m so I don't know why I was so confused last time. That makes 3 thomarter finds in a row. It would have been more but the rest in the area have all been done - except for those boaty ones, but sadly the Tardis doesn't float.

19-Jul-14
Quick find by geodad. TFTC

01-Jun-14
I checked on this today and am pleased to report that it is exactly where it should be. If you are finding a patch of many little ferns you are 7-10m too far to the left when looking uphill. I was wondering why people were saying there were so many possibilities and this explains it. My other thought was that more little ferns had grown since I hid the cache but this is not the case. There are only 2 possibilities in the few metres of GZ.

07-May-14
Nothing for us either. Curefully searched near anything that matched hint (there were a fair few). Read logs & spread the net out further. Found one or two classic hides for a small container but they were unoccupied. Gave up after about 40 mins searching. Not the sort of spot that would attract muggles though.

03-May-14
Nope, looked everywhere!

30-Mar-14
Been back and forth to this one several times and once again no such luck....... thomarter expect one of my 'charming' emails Razz

This was a cool cache as I liked the riddle and surprisingly not that hard to find as geohubby honed in on it pretty quickly. TFTC!

29-Nov-13
No luck today finding this one. Maybe next time! Still a good excuse to be out walking.
best wishes,

Clear skies and not too wet underfoot. One of my hunt team had a major fall in the wet mossy mud just to provide some comic relief. He cheered himself up by actually finding the cache. The hint provided was very handy but many spots suited the description. TFTC

So this now makes our total find count 6078.

What a day it's been, trudging up and down mountains and along mountain bike tracks. Today must be a good day to go out caching, because we have been able to meet and chat with a couple of teams during our hunt today.

This cache was a nice cross country trek from the nearby [?] cache "Anyone for Equestrian".
[/blue]
Coordinate Accuracy: Fair (Around 9 metres)
Cache Condition: Container and log book are in good shape.
Took: Nothing.
Left: Nothing.
Thanks thomarter for the hunt today.

28-Jan-13
Hi thomarter
Parked at the car parking area above the Duck Reach swing bridge and decided to look for all the caches in this area from there. Found this cache first without any difficulty and then moved to "Cross Tracks", "Not Another Brick in the Wall", Yesteryear Logging", "Half way up or down", "Between a rack and a huge rock" and the final one - "Little Knoll."

Found Nature's Doona at 1128hrs.

TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.

Who would've thought?? Closing in on GZ we were surprised to stumble across a couple of fellow cachers searching for the doona. We joined them in the hunt and after widening our search area the cache was soon in hand. Nice to meet you Bruce and Marg from Jindy, you've certainly earned your caches travelling by push bike. Safe travels Smile SLTN

#535 Scrambling around in every nook and crannie, Tassie2Heads appears from the scrub. Joining forces we searched and chatted. Thanks for your assistance, B reckoned he had already searched the obvious, but Tassie2Heads succesfully found the frustrating hidey in the end. Thanks for the kind words in your log. We did take the trusty steedsdown the Duck Reach penstock stairs, had lunch, found the gx on the other side and then hauled the steeds up the other side. We will MOST probably NOT attempt this circuit with our trusty steeds again! Happy trails. TFTC.

Took a bit to find this one but after an expanded search we achieved the find, SL, TNLN, TFTC

26-Dec-12
We spent a bit of time searching around the place before finally zooming in on the correct area. The cache is in excellent condition. Thanks thomarter

04-Dec-12
The "Class 2 Lever" was still in the cache along with the tag. The chain had broken thus the Class 2 Lever was not connected to it and the tag but was simply resting on the bottom of the container with the other swaps. The person who reported it missing must have been having a 'boy look' lol
I've brought it home to repair/shorten the chain so I can reconnect the parts before sending it on its way. I'll probably drop it off at another cache in the next week or so.

26-Nov-12
Just hiked up from power station. Fiancé had. Rest and I eventually found this one. Thanks. Trackable tag in there but no trackable.

16-Nov-12
Bright skies and a cool breeze made this an ideal time to walk through part of the Trevallyn Recreation Reserve. The one unexpected happening was when we arrived to park our car new Hoo Hoo Hut - there was a drummer in the hut with a full drum kit making a continuous racket (only the most optimistic would have called it music). So we set off rather quickly for this cache. It was a pleasant walk and after what seemed to be a short time, we neared GZ. As mentioned in the cache notes, we headed off track but our GPS was slow to settle in this environment. We looked around the area at sites consistent with the hint. After a short time the GPS settled and it pointed to a particular location. A survey of the immediate area and the cache was discovered. It was in good condition. TFTC thomarter and for bringing us back to this reserve.
