Find#2598Have been planning a trip up to Kempsey to have a look at the slim dusty series. After my birthday yesterday I wanted to grab these caches with Shaneo58 today. A beautiful walk on a rainy day Log and cache in great condition TFTC
Parked just off trig Rd and walked round to the bird tree. We did this as part of a training walk with 20kg packs on as we are finishing off the bibbulum track in WA in October. Only 345km and we have completed the 1008km walk. Thank you for placing this cache for our enjoyment.
Out today exploring and always wanted to see this tree. Got mixed up with the hint with a log supporting the track. After find the hint made a quick find tftc
Streak Day #4005 - Out on a geocaching jaunt with Dave8153 and ws_cachers. Most were a quick find. TFTC
28/06/24This is find number: 9798Streak Day: 3116In the area this week and had some time to come out and find some of this series today. Found with Snoopy1976 and ws_cachers.Thanks to Mid North Coast Mob for placing and maintaining this cache.TFTC

Tftc we did enjoy the drive and the photo opportunity.Tftc Paul and Lou travelling with Savannah from The Blue Mountains NSW.
GAP YEAR BIG LAP - PART 2: THE ROAD TRIP - Day 8 Back on track again after a slight detour back to fix something on our boat (which featured in Part 1 of our gap year trip last year) which is now on the hardstand for sale at Gold Coast. After staying in Grafton, then lunch in Kempsey, heading for Wingham tonight, this time we made sure we didn't miss the bird tree turn off. We had tried to approach from the forest tracks when camping at Coopernook a few days ago but it was too hard to figure out which track to take. Much easier with the highway sign but even then a bit vague near the end. The trees along the walk are amazing - really huge! No signs really indicating which was the "Bird Tree" but we guessed it must be the big one with all the dead limbs full of hollows that is inaccessible due to danger of being hit on the head. Looks like the warning sign has already received a hit from its own warning. Are all the hollows how it got the name of bird tree? A bit hard to see from this distance whether any hollows are occupied. Benaroon was really the more impressive & the cache was soon found with no-one else thankfully around. Under the edge of the track before the boardwalk, we were confused about the sleepers at first. Thanks for maintaining this huge series. It's been great to find just the small few we had time for while in the area. ^3745 @ 1425hTFTC Mid North Coast Mob ????
We always seem to ask "I wonder if there is a cache here" once we are out adventuring! And covered by tree tops!!

Day Two of the MNCW series with the team from Sydney (signed as GR8). Roads are rougher, but landscape is amazing and varied. The trees here are phenomenal, a real valley of the giants. So glad that these trees have been left in place.
Logged as GR8 for the Geocaching Retreat 8 cachers.
Magnificent trees on this walk. Cache returned to its rightful spot.

Sort of felt like something was going to jump out and bite my hand but it was an awesome hiding spot!
With a trip planned for the Coorabakh National Park on Saturday for some geocaching, I took the chance to head up that way a day early, finding a few caches on the way.
A nice quick early morning find.
WOW this tree is awesome...and some of the other big boys...and even some of the stumps.

Thought we would try and find one of the Brothers on our way back home from a day at Port Macquarie. Instead, we found this cache. Thanks MNCB
Odd how caches become soaked like this one - PEOPLE PLEASE CLOSE THE LID FULLY AND MAKE SURE THE PLASTIC BAG IS NOT POKING OUT!!!

TFTC Thank you for hiding this cache. You have shown us a new place and have helped make geocaching an enjoyable activity. Thank you for the information. We could not sign because of a very wet log.
Log is absolutely drenched. What a spot though. Thanks for the excuse to come and see the birds nest. Monster of a tree. TFTC
On this long weekend we started the Mid North Coast Wander series. We did only 47 caches in Middle brother NP and Coopernook state forest because of some car issues but we will be back to finish the series. We really enjoyed the track with some nice lookouts.
Thanks Mid North Coast Mob to bring us on this track and all the interesting place.

Headed out here today to grab this fabulous cache. What huge trees. I have always seen the sign to this tree but never ventured here til today. The log book was wet but I wrote on the first page (couldn't turn any pages without ripping them off). Have a pic too if needed. TFTC
With the creation celebration promo on i was going to be struggling to find caches around home to get the required number of points. Then as a coincidence i had to travel north for work. So i looked at the map to find some high favourited caches on the way There were a few in this area that i stopped and grabbed on my travels. Log was soaked managed to sqrawl part of my name on the back page. TFTC.
Fifth day into my journey North to Brisbane and I have collected my muggle friend who wanted to see the Bird Tree. A detour was made and after a very long time (much longer than it should have) I finally had the cache in hand and the log duly signed.

When we stopped at the parking for the Bird Tree, there were two other cars there. We saw the occupants of one of the cars having a lovely picnic in this pleasant spot, and the people from the other car were just returning from a little walk and were about to leave. Thus, it looked like we would have the place to ourselves to conduct the search and have a look at the tree.
We took a leisurely stroll along the walking trail, following the compass towards GZ and taking in the sounds and fragrances of the forest. The forests here in Australia are more fragrant than most other forests I have walked in before -- great for the olfactory sense.
Eventually, the path led us down to a large tree with a boardwalk around it. How wonderful that this very large tree was spared and is now a place to bring people to admire it. There are also a few very large trees that survived logging in a previous century in the forests around Wilderness and Knysna on the Garden Route in the Western Cape in South Africa. The is specifically a "Large Tree" that can be viewed.
There were no birds to be seen in this tree today, though I suspect they are around at certain times, and that has given the tree its name.
I followed the suggestion in the hint and located the container. Shortly after signing and dropping off one of my signature small wire dogs we heard some voices, and noted another group of people coming down the hill. I quickly stowed the container and then had a better look at the large tree.
One of the members of the group explained to the others that the last time he had been here there had been lots and lots of noisy birds nesting in the tree. He was also a bit surprised that it was silent today.
On our way back to the car we came across another family who had a dog with them. I don't get it: there are clear signs that dogs are not allowed here, yet some people seem to think that the regulation doesn't apply to them for some reason. Not only do dogs pose a problem for the wildlife here, but this one was also seriously disturbing the peace with its incessant barking!

Thanks for sharing info on this tree as we were wondering about it’s name.
We started this series back to front from our earlier base in Wauchope, and now that we have moved on to stay in the Kendall Showgrounds we decided that it was time to start at the beginning. A scenic drive is a great way to explore bits of the countryside we wouldn't otherwise have visited, and it's great to pick up caches as we go.
Wow, what a magnificent giant. It's wonderful when you come across pockets of these incredible trees that have escaped the axemen.
