Day Two of the MNCW series with the team from Sydney (signed as GR8). Back on the rough stuff again but still grabbing smilies
We started the “Mid North Coast Wander” series few months ago (47 caches found). This long weekend was the perfect timing to finish it.
This series was a bit challenging because of the 200 caches but it gave us a lot of fun and we really enjoyed it. Thanks to the owner for this amazing job. You bring us through Coorabakh NP and Lansdowne State Forest and all these lookout and interesting points. Then we crossed the road to drive along the coast and enjoyed all the view points!
We found 147 caches and 6 DNF mostly because of muggler on this busy long wkd. All the coordinates were very accurate and with the hint it was easy to find all of them.
At GZ quick found. We signed the log book and then replaced as found.

We have been told about this Mid North Coast Wander and so having arrived in Harrington last night we set off on the trail today. It was a beautiful sunny day and we very much enjoyed the drive and the scenery. We got to see a few Wallabys and a good number of bird species. It was also exceedingly windy - in fact the sound of the wind through the tall trees especially at the high points was so loud we had to shout at each other to be heard! Many thanks to the CO for having provided us with the opportunity to enjoy another great day out geocaching. We soon found this one once at Ground Zero. We signed the log book and then replaced as found. Thanks so much for the cache and greetings from Zimbabwe
TFTC Thank you for hiding this cache. You have shown us a new place and have helped make geocaching an enjoyable activity. found closer to the road than the GPS indicated.
Quick find while doing the MNCW trail. I found another croc further into the bush. TFTC
In the area for the Camping and Caching at Coopernook event. Spent today geocaching with others, mostly SMS. This is one of the caches found. Caching was followed by drinks, music and nibblies at camp. Was a great weekend.

We started this series back to front from our earlier base in Wauchope, and now that we have moved on to stay in the Kendall Showgrounds we decided that it was time to start at the beginning. A scenic drive is a great way to explore bits of the countryside we wouldn't otherwise have visited, and it's great to pick up caches as we go.

Our fourth bite of the Mid North Coast Wander cherry today and our second lap of the Coorabakh area. 25 caches today, a couple of DNFs, before we had to head to camp over at Diamond Head. The kids had a ball again, this time with a close encounter to a nice little python.
We've left enough for a few more trips I'm sure.... Thanks again to all involved.

A wonderful weekend away in the Coopernook forest and surrounds with a crew of cachers from all over the place. Thanks so much to the locals for organising the event and giving us an excuse to come for a visit and to catch up with everyone. The kids loved it! Their dad managed to complete his first loop of the D:T grid as part of the trip, so a pretty exciting outcome in amongst the 70 or so caches we found for the weekend.
Despite having had a few visits to this region, we'd never attempted this section of the MNCW. We really enjoyed the changing scenery through farmland, forests of several types, and the views from the ridgelines. There were a few places where our GPS maps were a bit lacking, but we made it work by following our noses and using some caching instincts!
We had missed the turn at 80 (doing the series in reverse), and ended up 72, so now we were backtracking grab the ones we missed. This was our 44th cache of 60 for the day. At least we were finally doing them in numerical order! HAHA. Another quick find. TNLN TFTC

TFTC, I will use a generic log for this series and go into more detail at the final mystery cache. Attempting this long and looks like amazing series in stages and in no particular order. Should be fun.

This is an awesome cache! It was a real thrill to find this one with Gazkersh and Tilly! That log looks EXACTLY like a crocodilian reptile! (we are reptile LOVERS in this team, so it was a welcome sight for us!) Miss Tilly left a pirate ring in the cache. She also got a leech at this cache, but decided on the spot that she now LOVES leeches (well, they are a little snakelike and SNAKES are her all time favourite animal) She petted the leech (I think it was scared) and then we set it free to live it's life unhindered and eat the next cachers if that's what it's little heart desires TFTC MNCM. I now don't need to hear my child SCREAMING at the sight of a leech, I just hope and pray that she doesn't want to start bringing them home with us :O
Today was a day to put in an all out effort to find many more of this series. It was a successful run and we were able to add many more smileys to the map. TFTC.
Wow what an awesome spot for a cache . The name of the cache matches it's spot hehe TFTC
What a great log. Was expecting a fake crocodile similar to another cache I found but alas it threw me. Loved the creative person who first spotted the resemblance.
This was our second day wandering the dirt roads, chasing the MNCW caches. Parking was not good here, but we had not seen another car all day and crocolog was easy to access. Thanks for a great hide and for bringing us to this magnificent area.
Found on a detour on the way home from dropping my kids back to their mother.

Meandered out to continue our wander through the forest after a delicious Sunday breakfast. It was an amazing thing to see the beautiful rainforest lush and wet after all this rain! Roadside waterfalls were in abundance and our leech tally now stands at 7 (Mrs Bear must taste good). Again, thank you so much for helping us see this beautiful part of the world.
We awoke to another sunny day so headed off to primarily complete more of the Mid North Coast Wander series, together with any other nearby caches we might come across along the way. We still only seemed to manage an average of about 10 finds per hour so it will take at least another day to complete the series - we must spend too much time stopping to smell the roses We had another enjoyable day out with some interesting finds and places to see.

Travelling around Australia in our Caravan with our cat.
Camped at Coopernook Forest with a late night last night it was not an early start for us this morning. Finally on the road after 10.30 to do some more touring of Coopernook Forest and today we also visited the Coorabakh National Park
We really enjoyed the day and found this section to be the most scenic (for a whole day) than the other parts that we have tackled here this week.
Loved the waterfalls, and caves, the big trees and ferns. Some amazing vistas and lookouts, even with high cloud cover this morning.
Took a little while to get to this cache from the last. a tree had fallen across the road, whilst we got around it the road was still partially obstructed so Mr Felix whipped out the axe and cleared the road so others can pass safely now.

My imagination took a while to picture this one, once I walked past it, it was easy
With a few days free up my sleeve after a very busy schedule at work I thought I'd be a nice grandson and drive up to visit my grandparents. It just happens that they are nearby the Mid North Coast power trail which I had been eyeing off for a while. So the decision was made to make my way north and attempt my first large power trail.
After being told by my grandparents that they hadn't had any rain (decent amount) for a long time I was glad to escape the Central Coast where rain and storms had become a constant. I set out for an early start on day one to attempt to get as many caches as possible. I woke up to a cloudy morning which by the time I got to the first in the series had turned into rain.
The rain continued throughout the 2 days and included some strong winds, some brutal down pours and sections of very close lightning! Needless to say the weather made attempting this series quite difficult at times! I soldiered on throughout day 1 on my own in my van (2wd) along the dirt tracks through deep puddles and small rivers created by the rain. Some sections of the track were dubious but I continued along as reversing to go back was going to be difficult.
On day 1 I managed to get the first 89 of the trail before I had to call it a day. The wet weather made everything slower!! Getting in and out of the van, opening caches, writing logs, sealing bags all needed extra time and care in the terrible conditions. Thankfully the hides became somewhat predictable and finding them wasn't too difficult. Although every now and then I was fooled by some red herrings left in certain places. Well played!
There were 2 fallen trees blocking my way which took me some time to move out of the way. I got bogged in one section where there was no phone reception and was km's away from the nearest help. I hadn't seen a single other vehicle the whole day so I had to get myself out of the mess but digging with my hands and slowly moving cm by cm over 2 hours before finally getting myself out. There were sections where I only had 15m of vision due to thick cloud and mist combined with pouring rain. Unfortunately a lot of the look outs didn't provide much of a view due to the conditions, but there were sections when it cleared up for a little while and there were some magnificent sites of mist rolling throughout the valleys.
On day 2 an early start was had again and the bad weather also continued. I headed out to where I finished the evening before and as the rain came down I made my way along the trail. I cleaned up all the bush sections before making my way to Harrington to begin on the coastal section. Unfortunately the weather was still terrible and searching for caches in the pouring rain along the coast where people are present isn't as easy as doing it in a secluded bush setting! I decided to pull the pin at about 1pm and leave the rest of the trail for another time. It now gives me an excuse to come back!!
Thanks for the efforts on the trail! I greatly appreciated the time and care put into it. Most caches were absolutely fine, a small minority had a bit of water damage but in all it is a very well maintained trail! I only had 1 DNF which would appear to be muggled (other logs suggest so also). I'll be back soon!
I signed most logs with my shortened name WTF which was given to me by local geocachers (affectionately I hope!)

We completed some of this awesome trail last year and were eager to get back into it! These 4wd trails are great at night, however I feel we missed some awesome sights in the dark. We did however run into quite a bit of wildlife on the hunt.
We started this section of the series at #28 @ 1945hrs and finished at #109 @ 0315hrs with a few in between. We even did Big Sister which is a 5☆ terrain in the dead of night. Probably not the most intelligent thing I've done but enjoyable nonetheless.
Lovin it.

Since the Mid North Coast Wander series was published, it has been one of our aims to visit the area to tackle the caches. This visit has enabled us to realise this goal. We anticipated taking two days to attempt all the caches. Today we started at 6:10 and cached solidly through the day, finishing in the dark at 18:45. In that time we were fortunate to find 107 Mid North Coast Wander caches and to visit two trig points. Unfortunately there were 2 DNFs and a further three caches we didn't attempt as we did not have suitable transport. We have had a thoroughly enjoyable day looking for high quality caches in areas providing stunning scenery, We are looking forward to continue the hunt tomorrow.
Accurate coordinates and the hint led to a quick find. This is a clever cache name as the log certainly did look like a crocodile. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks Mid North Coast Mob for this cache and the series,

My second day on the series fared much better than the first. It did rain from time to time, but only for short periods at a time. There were another couple of DNFs but lots of finds.Still enjoying it, and hope to finish tomorrow..

Found during at trip up to the Mid North Coast with The Rats and Hoojar.
We arrived at the first cache at 9.00pm on Friday evening and set about completing the first 42 finds up until midnight where we bivouacked a few metres up the road from Bangalow Grid.
We woke the next morning to find the air filled with smoke from a nearby bushfire, however a chance meeting and conversation with a Forestry Commission employee on the status of the fire put our minds at ease and we continued our run through the remainder of the series, and a few others along the way, before completing the series just in time to meet up with Browngang for dinner and a few drinks.
We decided to leave the final assault for Sunday morning following the much appreciated hospitality provided by Browngang, and in a blanket of pea soup we made the last find on our way back south.
I found the series to be one of the better power trails I have completed to date with a good variety of hides, reasonably accurate coordinates, fantastic scenery, and once again excellent company.
Special thanks again to Browngang for your kind hospitality and the bacon and egg sandwiches to kick start out day for the trip home!
And last but not least, thanks Mid North Coast Mob for the cache.

After a few aborted attempts in planning a weekend on the Mid North Coast the caching gods finally aligned allowing Farmer Frentzen, Hoojar and myself to get away for a caching weekend.
Our goal was the Mid North Coast Wander and any other surrounding caches. Day 2 of our adventure proved to be our biggest. This was one of 150 caches we found today.
Thanks

There were a few false starts, but finally the pieces had all fit, and a weekend was set in stone. Farmer Frentzen, The Rats and myself were heading to the Mid North Coast. Our goal: The Mid North Coast Wander (along with a few extra caches thrown in for good measure.)
Friday night we travelled from Wollongong to Quakers Hill, and then on to the start of the trail. We knocked off the first 42 in the trail before deciding to call it quits just before midnight. We found a perfect spot to bivvy beside the road. We were awake Saturday morning before anyone even knew we had camped there.
Saturday proved to be a very smoky day. However all concerns were put aside following some internet research and a chance meeting with a Forestry Ranger. We continued along the series, collecting a few additional caches, and made it to Harrington for an early lunch (and a lot more local caches).
Saturday afternoon we made the final push, finding #200 just after 7:00pm. Deciding to leave the final for the next day, we pushed on to the Bonny Hills Tavern for a well earned hot dinner and beer, and to catch up with Browngang. Browngang also kindly offered us a bed for the evening, as well as a shower and a cooked breakfast on Sunday. How could we say no! Thank you very much for your hospitality.
Sunday it was back in the car to #201, mind you there were no views in the fog today.
Thanks for an amazing journey. A great and varied trail, varied caches, great views. A truly memorable experience. The company was fantastic too!
I highly recommend this as a weekend trip. Well done to all involved!
Maybe the three of us are not very imaginative... But this one took quite a lot of searching, as our co-ords were somewhat out.
Cheers
