Unfortunately we couldn't attempt this one due to the house being built very close to gz. There were concrete trucks, brick layers, carpenters, plumbers and other various workmen onsite. They would of seen what we were doing so had to keep on driving by. Sad

14-Jan-14
With a new house being constructed at GZ we flagged this one.The two dakotacats and the two fluffyduck38's enjoyed this power trail with plenty of variety in both the hides and the cache containers. We had lots of fun and plenty of exercise getting in and out of the car. Thanks Old Boots!

It is funny how geocachers are magically pulled towards these power trails and no matter how much you protest that its not about the numbers you just can't help yourself. A good day to do the trail. Not too hot just a very strong NW wind. Things I liked:
* Great variety of hides and container types and distances between caches which kept it interesting. Particularly liked the ones where you have to walk across the bridges over the irrigation canals
* Almost all the caches had huge pull off areas so a safe trail to do
* Well maintained. It must be a huge chore to look after a trail like this
* Well stocked caches. Lots of toys/trinkets for the kids
* Good hints.
The only small negatives on the trail today for me were a sharp branch taking a chunk out of my scalp while making my way into a hedge and the fact that I had to do the trail alone. Power trails are so much more fun done in a group
Thanks so much for putting this trail together.

On DAY ONE of our mini break in Christchurch today the plan was to drive around the place, see what remains and what is missing since our last visit when we had some great meals and times in some of the older buildings around the area. Following lunch with Sonia (Yes the Sonia) she suggested that we head down here and do this track.

So having a couple of my own trails and a piece of Geo-Art (another is a work in progress) I know what goes into completing the set up for one of these, This is a great trail with excellent parking and good coordinates to make the life of the cacher much easier. Thank you.

So off we set, starting at this end (1430hrs), Mrs Dragon a chief Navigator and the Cat doing the driving, running, jumping and signing the logs. The rain pretty much held off and only a couple of times did I have to spend much time searching. I blamed the Navigator, she blamed me for not following her directions. But later that evening I took her out for dinner so that made us all square.
We finally managed to complete the trail and head for Man Overboard at 1715Hrs which we thought was pretty good going, now the real question is how many can I convince her to stop for on the way back to Christchurch

Container not sealing and with a house being built there it will not be discrete.

Easy to find as driving threw the gate to work on house. Should be moved in next 2 months as some one will be living there.

TFTC - However - this cache is sitting at Number 70 site, BUT it is containing Log Book Number 52.
I am going to claim this as a find at Number 70 - as when I found it, I had already signed it, when it was at Number 52. ( I hope this helps other cachers due to someone shifting a log book ??? )

Cache number 75 of 82 for today's Thompson's track caching run. Thanks for all the great caches!

Since it was a lovely day we thought we might have a crack at Thomsons Track. Got as far as the Methven Road and turnedaround and went home as Cachlette was getting a bit tired. Will get the rest through to valetta some other time. Found all the ones we looked for. TFTC.

28-Jul-13
24/40. Only doing caches on right hand side of the road for a while as we had already done 14 - 20 on a trip to Methven about a year ago. Thanks

One of 100 for the day - Thompsons Track + some others in the area.
The 2wombles are now an efficient team mixing up the driving, navigating, finding & logging duties.
Thanks for the adventure & effort gone into this series!

There appears to be a new house in progress here. May not be suitable cach site for much longer

#29 of 105 for the day (& a couple of DNFs). It'll take a while to log this lot! The plan was to do the Thompson's Track series (we got all 80) plus enough others to beat Bo&bronnie's best in a day.
The fence and gate have recently been rebuilt, it appears a truck or tractor has rolled over the cache as it was squished. It was wedged at the bottom of the structure it should be hanging on. I've replaced it with a pill bottle and left it in the same place I found it. Coords were accurate.

19-Jul-13
easy find

Replaced with an opened up container- no room for log but enough to classify a find

I found this one while doing a fair chunk of the Thompson Track this afternoon. I liked how the cache placements varied keeping the interest in doing the series up throughout. Hardly any traffic throughout the day which also made the caching more pleasurable.

Thank you for setting up this trail of caches for us to find! SL

Enjoyed a day on Thompsons Track with debsnz. Most finds were very quick while some took a little longer. All had good parking with not a lot of traffic, except farmers tractors that is (saw at least 15 tractors driving along the track during our quest). Thanks to the cache owners for a great day on Thompsons Track!

22-Jan-13
We came, we looked and we found - we enjoyed our day on Thompsons Track. Temperatures were getting rather hot (weather that is Smile ) but we persevered and finished the day on a high. Saw a LOT of farmers driving tractors on this road, and I'm sure we saw the same farmer a number of times. They didn't seem surprised, just gave us a friendly wave - I guess this must be common behaviour around here. Found with Aoraki Sheep.

Had an awesome day. Today was our best find day of 104 caches. TFTC.

Did this trail with hinemoana, GenCuster and Team EJ. Was good fun, and really enjoyed racing around seeing how fast we could do this. Thanks to all the cachers who maintain these caches, and to Old Boots for placing them. Did get a bit hot under the sun, but go air con in the car! And most of the caches were very quick with the hint. - Though there was one of two for which the hint didn't really narrow the search down as there were still heaps of possibilities... And then there was a whole ton of tree counting involved! Haha.
Thanks for the entertainment on a Monday afternoon!

Great find by Kiwi Nomad. I was too slow getting out of the car and missed seeing the rabbits.

05-Jan-13
Found with TwoSharpe and Kiwi Nomad. This one was protected by a rabbit gang, who happily moved aside so we could find the cache. Smile TFTC

05-Jan-13
This is one of the caches I certainly remember finding. Was only sorry I couldn't have been quicker with my camera. As I stood next to the post and commented about the choice of parking spot and how you could almost reach out the window and grab it I turned around and spotted three very brave rabbits. One of them rain into the shrubbery but the other two, even though they moved further away made no move to hide. Prancing around the water tank left in place for the stock not the rabbits. The second time within a month I have seen rabbits while out geocaching.
Thanks for the cache, logbook full. Squeezed in our names in a small space.

24-Dec-12
We had left this series unfound when we headed to the mega knowing we'd be here for Christmas.

The two of us managed to find all but one of the series and a few other nearby caches in a bit under 3 hours. The weather had traffic levels both made for a great afternoon caching.

A great place for the trail, with plenty of parking and manageable muggle levels

Together with my family on a vacation trip to New Zealand. Starting at Auckland airport on transfer to Christchurch we went for a roundtrip exploring the south island. This was one of many caches we found while visiting so many nice and interesting places thanks to all the caches why I want to send a thank you to all CO for the work spent. TFTC.

21-Dec-12
After a good night's sleep at Rakaia's Holiday Park we went on the Thompsons Track, our first ever geocache series like that. On our trip on the South Island we found over 100 geocaches and this track obviously did it part to that. Thanks for leading us onto the Scenic Route and discovering all the different hiding places.

09-Dec-12
The main purpose of our visit to Rakaia was the trail. It was completed in one day, half by daylight and half in darkness. Some caches were more a challenge than others, skin was lost, blood given and a good time was had. A fav for the trail but that's impossible so one was given to our first find to honour all. TFTC

09-Dec-12
This trail was the main target of our visit to Rakaia. We started it in the afternoon, had a break for dinner, then completed the last 38 of them at night. We were also fortunate to meet some geocachers while we were on the trail. Thank you for the effort in placing this series of caches.

Day One:

#2872
The Thompons Track continues.
In hindsight some of these caches are just blurring into one, some of the standout ones are fresh in the memory but the rest I'm struggling on then again I was a little sleep deprived at various times. I guess I was right about power trails after all.
Still time for perseverence and a few power cat naps to keep the driving safe. Thank goodness I've got a 4x4 so I can pull completely off the road

Thanks for the cache.

Had done a bit of research as to how long the power trail was going to take, figured 3.5 hours should do it. So I timed my arrival on the start line (#40) for three and a half hours before the end of my twenty four hours. Managed to find the whole lot with about ten minutes to spare.

Really enjoyed the series and was most impressed by the hide quality. Lots of good sized caches in the "obvious" place but nicely tucked away.

Thanks for the effort in establishing and maintaining this lot.

246 of 270 for a day stretching from Danseys to Thompson's Track.
