This geocache was our main target as it has alluded us previously and a smiley face was the goal. We were already honing in on the prize when a fellow geocacher arrived ( previous logger) it was nice to chat after the little blighter was safely back in its hidey hole which I felt was under rated on the T side.Another cacher that had been at the Mega but we had not seen there. She mentioned our T ratings seemed to be lower than in Germany. It was interesting to hearing about different types of hides and many events held in her city.
Und natrlich auch vielen Dank an bumandworker fr diesen wirklich gut versteckten Cache mit interessanter D-Wertung._______________________________________________________The rain accompanied me on the journey from Hamner Springs to Motueka. The clouds hung low, so I only got to see parts of the beautiful landscape along the way. During one or two breaks in the rain, I stopped to visit a cache. My third and final stop was in Murchison. Here I realised that my mobile phone had lost reception and was no longer displaying my offline caches correctly. Such a stupid thing, but I didn't want to miss out on this cache. In view of the D rating, I briefly scanned the last log entries. Suddenly a camper van parked in front of me. I was amazed when two people left the campervan with a large torch in their hands and headed straight across the road towards the coordinates of the cache. They weren't geocachers, were they? So I quickly hopped out of my car and followed them to the cache hiding place. With a 4 D rating, several pairs of eyes are always an advantage. And indeed, there were three of us standing there and thinking about where the box might be hidden. However, my fellow cachers had exactly the right idea and reported success shortly after starting the search! I hadn't imagined the search for this cache would be so easy for me. It was a surprising cache gift that I received, because on my own I would have searched for a long time. So many hiding places here! Best wishes for you, I really enjoyed the nice chat we had! And of course many thanks to bumandworker for this really well-hidden cache with an interesting D-rating.
Rattll and I are on a three week road trip around the South Island. Today, we started in Blackball in drizzly rain, and we've made our way to Wakefield tonight. No real targets for the day, although adlabs are always good, but somehow we've picked up some goodies for the day.We got to Murchison for lunchtime. Scanning for nearby caches, we spotted this one, and were soon at GZ, which was fortunately deserted on a wet weekday afternoon. We then proceeded to search for nearly half an hour, peering into cracks and crannies, finding broken glass, and hunting high and low. Rattll was on the point of calling it off, when I found myself at a previously unsearched level, and made the find. FP for a tricky hiding spot. Signed, and returned as found. Tftc!
We felt in need of a coffee break, so parked up near here. But, first things first, there's a cache near by, so we decided to go look for that before putting the kettle on. It took quite some time before matagouri uttered those magic words - I've found it!I was all set to give up, and my mind was well and truely focused on coffee, so I was very relieved when he called out. Thanks for putting this challenging little cache here
Stopped here for lunch today and this looked attractive. MummyPenny zeroed in on the likely spot and I did the next bit. It wasn't wedged but we returned exactly as we'd found it. Thanks bumandworker.
A bit of history here and a fun place to play.Used alternative side of wall and much exertion by Baktrak.Images helpful thanks bumandworker
This one gave me lots of heartache even after I knew where it was hidden. I came today with the correct ToTT and finally got my hands on the cache. TFTC.
Stopped by twice yesterday while out for a bike ride for a quick look without success. Later I re-read the cache page including the hint, along with many of the logs. This gave me a good idea of where I should focus my search, and made a point to double back early this morning while it was quiet to have another go. This time once I reached the right level I quickly spotted this nice hide. Happy to add my name to the log, TFTC
Reefton to Nelson today - though a longish journey we grabbed a few caches on the way.We stopped off in Murchison to have lunch and grabbed a few trads and did the AL tooWe gave this quite a search and it was only reading previous logs about the T rating being underscored we then looked at a different level - once at the right level this was a quick find, though removal of the container took a while TFTCTim and Viv - ddm
We found it!!! We finally freaking found it! Today I got to turn that frown upside down when Mr Luck@lackman put his fingers on the cache. This was our fifth visit and each attempt has been frustrating as most of the attempts ended in a muggle infestation (kids just having fun) we couldn't outwait. In the end it was the hint that put us in the right spot (a place we had searched a number of times with Mr L@L touching it without registering it was the cache). I included the photo as it seemed fitting. I knew I would keep coming back until I got it. I have given this a favourite as very few caches have left me this determined. TFTC
TFTC. Lucky for me it was a Muggle free day. Would have looked like a bit of a dork to them if I was discovered trying to retrieve it with my little fat fingers. Eventually got where I needed to be to extract it. Lucky I found it when I did as 2 muggles and their dog turned up about 5 secs after I replaced it .
Quiet evening so went hunting. No luck this time so will return in few weeks and try again.
Before leaving Murchison, we strolled a bit through the village resolving the Lab cache. Not many Muggles around except at the museum, where a market took place.
Here we searched very long. The location offers many possibilities to hide something. Luckily nobody else was there, so we could freely search. Finally I finished by sensing something suspicious with my fingers, and managed to get it out. Probably the terrain rating is a bit an understatement.
Thank you for the cache

Finally after lots of visits it was a quick find. Where would I hide it and there it was.
I tried twice. I am confident it is here but I have given up looking. Thanks anyway
Whoop whoop, very happy to find this one today - second attempt here.
There are just so many options and poor coverage, first time I wasn't even sure if inside or outside.
This time at least that was clear (after reading logs), so it was just a matter of reaching to different places and suddenly felt it. Surprisingly it didn't take too long.

25 October 2021 08:08. I can see why this location could be tricky to access sometimes.....
Came here with GSEL. Soon realised roughly where we needed to be, but where exactly? Fortunately GSEL had a thought, and was able to reach where I couldn't, and the signed log was returned to the same location, before we departed, in search of fuel, both for the car and ourselves . I can recommend the savoury scones at the cafe opposite the four square! TFTC.

#10169. Day 6 of the South Island road trip around the top of the South Island (Canterbury and Westland) with Infoferret. This trip was planned to replace the Labour weekend Auckland Mega adventure. We have stayed overnight in Murchison and today are heading to Christchurch. The weather has improved in the morning and by time we reached Canterbury it was like a hot summers day. But before we head south we have an adventure lab to do and few local caches.
Well we arrived here with some trepidation being a D4 traditional. Looked at one place and realised can't be there so tried another option. Spent quite a bit of time trying those options. Read some past logs and tried a different option. Scrambled around a bit and finally put my hand on the container. Sweet. IF was very pleased as she would have struggled with this one. She made up for it on other caches later. Signed the logbook and replaced where found. Thanks bumandworker for hiding it here. Favourite for a memorable D4 cache.

Third time lucky thanks to some of the previous logs directing me back to a location that I had looked in in the past. Not sure how I could have missed it on previous visits. TFTC
Yay, not too difficult if you read the hint. Only 5 m to GZ too, so also reasonably accurate too, considering. Like most others this was not my first look here. Last time I only managed outside because of muggles inside.
I have searched for this cache a couple of times over the last couple of years with no luck. This time armed with some extra knowledge and someone with longer arms (Madcow2) found the cache. TFTC
On a trip to Nelson for a tramp walking the Able Tazman. Staying the night in Murchison.
Took a bit to find looking very where, but found.
Found with annielin and downsouthinv.

This ole ewe has got very very wet today traveling to here from Hokitika. So, i was not going to be shorn today!!
The ewe hoggett with us also got too wet to shear, maybe we could dag her before putting her on the swedes..
Happily the ole rambo with us was the driver, so he was nice and dry, so he was pouncing from here to there and here again, then he went over there and back again...
Finally he set his hooves on it!! Happy days. Thanks for the fun

So a quick and easy find ... on my sixth visit, and a few more than that for Tregearp.
I'm adamant that we'd searched the place where we found the cache on multiple previous visits - because it is the logical place and the coordinates direct you to that exact location.
Anyway, regardless whether cache migration, missing, misplaced, mispositioned or simply we were blind, this morning it was a Eureka moment when this one was off the "Nemesis List".
Thanks B&W - its funny how sometimes the easy ones are the hardest. An FP which for me is often about tenacity and making the find even after multiple earlier disappointments.

WOOHOO FINALLY and this time a quick find by SJT_NZ. It's been eight visits for me but at least one was shortened due to local interest in the skate park. Always concentrated on where the coords led us but on the odd occassions broadened. Thanks b&w for the adventure, well worth all the post search coffees and pies at the local bakery but thrilled to finally have a smile.

Coming into town we noticed an unhappy Blue face on our map so it was back to the Shearing Board for another go at it. This time we took into account the comments made by previous finders and went much higher than we had previously tried. Once at the right level the rest was history and we could turn this frown upside down. Glad to have had the time to try this one again. TFTC

*Thanks for putting out this cache for woolwood9 and I to find!*
SL **tm/ww NZ** (may just be a black smudge on the many wet or plastic logs)
Weather was quite bad again with lots of rain
*We spent a while searching, some kids turned up so we returned a bit later for a second, determined look and finally got the cache!*

It was a tricky one as I initially searched the wrong area... then after re-reading the description and a few logs the penny dropped and it became a quick retrieval.
Thankfully there were no kids using the facility or I wouldn't have been able to find this.

Looked for and found this cache today. Cache condition all good and log has plenty of room on it. No maintenance required. Cache is difficult to find and retrieve but that is all in the rating. We can see no reason to archive this cache. It is there you just have to look harder.
Andy spotted this cache on the map before we left home and decided we needed to try finding it as it was near a customary stop of ours. We had to wait a while for a couple of scooter riders to depart then the hunt started in earnest. It didn't really take too long to find the cache - less than the time we waited for the people to leave. Andy hunted the nooks and crannies but we kept going back to one area that matched the hint and that is where the cache was found. tftc

Hi bumandworker
This geocache was brought to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. See the [maintenance section of the Geocache Listing Requirements/Guidelines](http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#listingmaintenance).
I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in four weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing by clicking on the link below the cache name to return it to active status.
Whatever your intentions, please **post a note** here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and maintaining the cache. If a month passes without seeing a response, then I'll assume that this listing should be archived.
Please note, that if a cache is archived due to lack of owner maintenance, the cache is unable to be unarchived.

We dudnt gave the time to spend long here so moved on after a quick look such a shame we do like getting different types of tricky caches thanks anyway all the way from Feilding N.Z
WE SWISS could NOT find it..we searched and searched and read logs from others ..so our journey goes on......
Found after a short search...I was put off by the "other" for the container ...the film canister was well hidden, I feel the terrain rating is well off the mark...a 2 T is one above wheel chair rating..the position that this cache is in, there is no way in the world this fits its given T rating..tftc
After being disappointed at a dnf the year before we were determined to find this cache today. After determining gz according to the gps we started searching. This time it didn't take long to discover the sneaky hide. Great to turn this into a smilie. Thanks for the cache bumandworker.
That took a lot longer than what it was supposed to be really need to read the description
When I went past the first time, there was a boy skating, so I went past. On my way back, I took ages looking around, wondering how good the coordinates were. Eventually read a few old logs, got a few hints, and re-read the description and title, and finally found it. Interestingly, it's actually in plain sight - from the right angle... ;P Thanks.
Ta Da!! Hooray. Found at last. Actually in the place I've been looking all those other times too but this time I was lucky enough to touch it and realise I had found it.
Day 5 and last day of Nosynel's and my geotrip through the Molesworth and back through the Lewis. Nice to have my son's Toyota Hilux for this adventure. Today we are heading to Christchurch after staying the night in St Arnaud. Thanks for the cache. Made my day finding this.

The big Molesworth circuit is in progress. Today is day four of Jude _E and my geotour, our final day. Thanks to her kind son we have use of a Toyota Hilux, extremely helpful indeed. We stayed a night at St Arnaud last night.
There was no real goal for today apart from to get back in one piece and find some geocaches.
We have both searched for this one unsuccessfully before. This time we found it.
Sadly there is no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. I plan on going to the OzGeomuster in July. To find out more visit this site: https://www.ozgeomuster.com.au
If you can't make Aussie. New Zealand will have another large event in 2020 in Auckland. I will keep you posted in my logs.
Thanks for hiding this geocache.

We gave it a fair go, but without success. Difficult with so many nooks and crannies. Tftc. MattyH from Tassie
Looked at this last year and couldn't find it. This time determined to find it, overlooked it on the first look, but had a read of other finds and did a more thorough search in area we thought it was. Bingo, there it was.
We found it one minute before our self imposed cutoff time. Great cache. Thank you so much!
Fun find, deserves a favorite point. Markvier was the athletic one between the two of us. My role was mostly just, nope, nope, nope, not here either. Until, success! TFTC from markvier and Traveler9.
We had stopped in Murchison today for such as we were travelling through to Nelson from Hanmer Springs and while Sonya was looking in the 2nd hand store (urgh!!!) Deane shot down the road to have a look at this cache. It took a minute or so to figure out which side to attack this one from but it all made sense from there. Cache in hand a few minutes later, helped greatly by the fact that it was just Deane and the junior cacher on lookout there. TFTC B&W, a clever hide. [^]
Finally. This cache has been a slight bug bearer for us. Over 2 or 3 years we have looked for it about 4 times. Armed with all the logs and discussing together we roughly knew where to look. We are on a "high" now we have found it. Tyftc
Another one found with bkj97 while visiting from the kapiti coast t4tcsl. He's always up for this type of challenge. I have to keep reminding him he's over 70!
Thanks to little blue hen’s persistence this one has been added to the smilies list. Reading previous logs and checking satellite view on the geocaching app certainly refocused our efforts. Nice to still be supple enough to nab these ones in my geriatric years.cache all dry and happy. TFTCSL favourite added to celebrate my nimbleness
Running currently at 70% DNF , so we have increased the"D" rating.
We check it quite often as we pass through.

No luck for us here today.

Heading away for a few days towards Murchison with the extended whanau for a bit of hiking and some caching on the way, signing the log books as Team Polak for all of us. This morning the majority of the crew left me and the boys to it, and were not even ready to PAF! So we spent a bit of time searching when /dev/gc0c came up with the good! TFTC and a fun hide!!
We get back home today after our 10 day epic adventure to Oamaru and back.
Its another early start from Springs Junction area and I have requested a cache today. The Seagnoid has cached out Murchison - but this one.
This is just the thing for The Seagnoid. He thoroughly enjoyed monkeying around this shed and finally found this elusive cache. Cheers.
Spent many hours in one of these as a kid, including wool sorting and baling. Brings back many memories.

As Capperz has said so rightly: A trip to Murchison is not a trip to Murchison without a fail at this cache. So here I am again (I have not logged all my DNFs) on the way back from the Oamaru Geofest. Taybeedragon and I stayed just short of Springs Junction and she wanted to stop here for fuel and for a geocache today. So, since we are here, we may as well fail at this one again. Step one: Check the recent logs, see if there is some help. Which is how come I saw Capperz log, thus the line above. Capperz sometimes leaves a hint, and he did again this time too, so armed with possible ideas we re-entered the shearing shed. Oops, sorry, skate park. Rechecked all the placed I had checked before, this time more thoroughly. Nothing. What about there. Actually, what about *there?* Why had I never checked it before? It would be a great place to put a cache! And indeed therer was a cache there put. Woo hoo! One of my favourite kinds of cache hide, although I normally see this in another environment.
And so it was decided that for this years Anzac Day observations that a group of my workmates and I would head West, to the Coast, to pay our respects and parade in the Air Force colours. We loaded into the van on mid-afternoon on Monday and arrived in Westport just on dusk. Checked into the motel apartments for the evening before an 0430 start on Tuesday to parade at Granity followed by Waimangaroa at 09145and finishing at Westport at 1100 to march on the Cenotaph.
An awesome couple of days with many new people met, places seen and other experiences and tales from the Coast. Oh, and a few caches too!
Stopped off here for a driver change and compulsory break and while our colleague scoured the local op-shops etc for a wedgewood blue shirt to wear on parade I co-opted the help of other members of our party to help out in the search. I returned, yet again, to the scene of my previous search(es) and yet again came up with nothing. A more limber colleague went to a whole new level of searching and the cache was soon in hand, finally!
T F T C b&w and this challenge can finally be knocked off. Yay.

Couldn't find this one in 2015, looked again travelling to the West Coast and again on our return. Trolled through the successful logs which was helpful. Maybe too much of a reach for this grandmother, or just too tricky?
Rode my bike in 30C heat from the Murchison NZMCA camp seeking local caches. Oh bummer, a DNF on my first cache. Clambered around and couldn't see this 'tricky' hide. Hope my day improves.
