A nice quick find, once I was looking in the correct hint item. Thanks for placing your cache. Ms_KR and I are heading South and home again.. Today we cruised around Whanganui. Fine but a bit windy while we were out, quite wet later in the day.Occassionally signed MK+KR on cache logs, and apologies for the generic logs. Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches.

#11,699. I am up in Whanganui on a long geocaching weekend with Infoferret. We noticed a series of caches up this way we had both not found and this was the first of them. The track is a bit overgrown but was not too damp today for sandals. After checking around a few different objects I peered in and spied the bison. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache as found. Thanks mjmnz for setting up this bird themed cache.

Certainly the track here is a bit overgrown, but that didn't prevent me from heading up from the road and making a quick find, TFTC

02-Mar-21
Thanks for the hide. I have been trying to find all Cache close to home. All good here.

05-Jan-21
Took a little while but found it in the end! I forgot my pen unfortunately so didn't sign the log sorry!

12-Dec-20
This was a lovely little green space. I was stunned to find the cache so quickly as I have been known to struggle with this hide type.

Cache # 4,932 - quick find with brucewwnz today, much to our surprise. It often takes time to find hanging caches. All good here. TNLNSL. TFTC!

(# 6430). This weekend I traveled up to Wanganui primarily to attend the famous Rattl Christmas event on te Sunday. So what could be better than going up one day early in order to grab a few caches. The weather treated me well and it was a successful trip. A quick find. Everything in order. Thanks for bringing me here.

Day 1 (With Squirrel Nutcase) of our Whanganui road trip.
Knew this was going to be a long day today. First cache found about 8am and last one found just before midnight.
Mission today Event, A cache starting with the letter U, Several Multi's, Earth Cache, Virtual and anything else we could find.
Achieved all the above.
Thanks to Cache Owners for their placement efforts and sorry about the cut and paste but this was a huge weekend for us. SLTFTC

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... On a road trip weekend - We haven’t been on anything like this since Covid Episode One in March. A special Community Event in Whanganui got our attention. So we’re off to the ‘River City’ for a bit of fun...

Day One of our adventure - We intended on caching out some big trails, with the Community Event being the key focus... We passed up on doing this cache last time we were in the area. This was a far drier walk today and a quick find. Thanks mjmnz and TFTC.

Attaching method had parted. Container on the ground. Re-attached using a different method due to corrosion.

I seldom get up to Wanganui in general, but the pull of Geocaching has given me impetus to pay more attention to it in recent years. With the vast majority of my plans for 2020 having been blown out of the water due to events beyond my control, I decided that a good long day caching up here was exactly what I needed, especially if I was to be able to do it in good company as was the case today.

My callout for company earlier this week was ably answered by Etherlord Clan and pgcnz, and all our logs today were signed either individually or else as Team PET as space on each logsheet allowed.

Arriving at GZ, the 3 of us had a good hunt in the appropriate Hint item, and it wasn't too long before I discovered the nylon cord but no cache hanging on the end. Well that would certainly explain the previous DNF's. But could we find the actual cache? Another hunt around on the ground and Etherlord came up trumps. After signing the log, we re-attached it to the cord in the hope of making it usable again although I would suggest that the CO should visit to make sure they are happy with our running repairs.

Thanks for placing this cache.

11-Jul-20
Rectified another DNF! It must’ve been a long day last time as I’m certain we weren’t even looking in the right spot last time. A big thanks to the precious cacher who secured it to the tree again. It made our find super easy. TFTC!

28-Jun-20
No luck for us here today. GPS took us straight to a certain spot so searched there. After no luck we tried surrounding spots with no luck.

19-Jan-20
No luck finding this one today

18-Nov-19
Visiting Wanganui for a week of work based at the hospital. Enjoyed exploring some local caches in the evening. Cache all fine.

20-Oct-19
This is my first full day in Wanganui getting lots of caches around town. There was major road constriction right at the parking spot, so I had to park down the road and walk back. The cache is rusted so the attachment part is almost non-functional. Needs some TLC. TFTC.

Day 6 of my road trip for WENZ Mega. Wanganui to Upper Hutt today.
The first thing I saw as a walked in the entrance was a pukeko. A good sign.
Several possibilities at GZ and I soon spotted the container
I think this is the last of the placed date grid complete (not being a paid member, project gc doesn't update daily), so thank for placing this on a date I needed.
Thanks for the smilie mjmnz.

Tricky cache this. Have been here before to give it a go and Livi and I came in from the entrance over the other side. This time whilst coming back from walking the dog I headed to G Z from a closer gateway and soon began circling the host. Eventually I spotted the retaining item and the cache was spotted in situ. All signed in and replaced as found.

Day 2 of our visit and after driving from Wellington airport all the way to Whanganui yesterday without a single stop for a cache ( a new record?- probably), we got to our daughters at 1900 ready for dinner and a hope for a few caches the next day. And so it was. We walked the dog, walked along the riverside and grabbed a few park n grabs on the way back South. Good to be back caching here, some decent cache hides in this town, and the surrounding areas.
For a while now it's been planned that we are going to head overseas from Blenheim and come into Wellington for a weekend. High on the list of things that had to happen were; visit the 'Scale of our war' at Te Papa museum, mrs capperz and Livi to go to the World of Wearable Arts show (WOW) at TSB Arena, find some geocaches in the region in the acquired hire car, head up to Whanganui to spend the night with our other daughter, and head back home on Sunday evening, via Otaki shops for the flight home. Quite a whistle-stop 36 hours and mission(s) were possible, and achieved. Much rain and mud was also experienced but that's NZ in October for you!

06-Feb-17
It was looking like it was going to be a great summers day so I decided to head to wanganui for the day to concentrate on caches that I haven't managed to find before and some multis that I have tried.

I have visited this location once before and thoroughly searched what I assumed was the host as the gps was pretty squarely zeroed in here.

Today the GPS was bouncing me around so I examined a number of likely hosts with no luck and I was about to give up again when I went in for one more sweep and spotted the well camo'd hide. Good to have this one ticked off. TFTC

What a nice little area we would never have known about. Didn't take too long to spot. Lots of bees around. Tftc

30-Sep-15
I have been a bit slack during the month of September (only finding one cache before today) so I needed to get out to increase my numbers. It was palnned for a car full of cachers to head over to Wanganui, but as the day neared, numbers dwindled so it ended up just being myself and Tommygun9. It was a warm spring day with plenty of muggles out and about. I ended up finding 30 odd caches with three frustrating DNF's
Started searching in the obvious spot before a clue in a previous log directed us to the other likely spot. No pukeko's today.
Thanks for the cache and the smiley.

30-Sep-15
A police checkpoint was being set up nearby and was in action when we left. Searched the tree at GZ when a previous log led us to the target area and success. T F T C mjmnz.

SpudNZ and I headed off for a September afternoon mission and Wanganui was the destination. I ended up with about 30 odd caches (on a dot day too) and we met another cacher along the way. I had only found three caches for September so this was a fortunately timed trip. Thanks to all the local hiders for making today's trip enjoyable.

22-Aug-15
On a roll down from the naki so had to stomp around for this this is making for a great road trip TFTC

22-Aug-15
Hehehehe, got to have a small climb and look about, as both we interrupted the GZ in the adjacent area.
after scratching our heads, I realized we overlooked a more suitable location, Cache was soon in hand
and log signed.
Cheers

A mission was needed to complete one of the last few licence challenges on Rangitoto Island, so a passing comment to C&D at an event and this mission was soon planned. We nearly achieved what we set out to accomplish, with only 1 more cache to find to complete the challenge but that was due to miss-reading the fine print on the challenge page.

So with the mission lasting 48 hours we amassed a great set of numbers, 317 caches found, just over 1200km travelled, about 7 hours of sleep, C&D finding his 180th earthcache, completing the KAS powertrail in under 3 hours and finding numerous amazing geocaches. A lot of fun was had along the way, and some great memories were created. A big thanks to everyone for placing all the caches along the way, this mission wouldn't have been as much fun if they weren't there!

Soon located this one, thanks for the hide.

Well another mission down the line in what HKCB and I were expecting to be another large caching weekend where numbers were the target, Sleep was for the weak, OCD=commitment Big Grin, and petrol was a must. We left home at 6pm and headed straight down here to start what was going to be a long couple of days, so with much planning (compliments of HKCB) and a good supply of nourishing caching supplies in the back.
With a total of 1250 kms (just a short drive) and 5 hours [xx(] of sleep we were definitely going to earn our rest by Sunday evening when we got home. Oh, we even managed to attend an event along the way and meet fellow cachers from the area while in Wanganui.

Well it might just be a new day but we've already covered some miles in the quest for smilies. Sleeping in the car never gets any easier on the body but it does have the added bonus of saving money for more petrol.
This was my fourty second in daylight but also our one hundred and fifty first for the day not too shabby we think. As we continue up to Wanganui to our goal for the day and an event in the evening, we are glad to have finally made it this far
Thankfully both HKCB and I enjoy caching through the night (and the day), well we have had plenty of experience of it, especially as we are both working on individual challenges, mine being the DGSc Challenge and includes the Night Caching elective.

So again thank you for the FUN of the hunt Big Grin

Omg! Our first attempt & After much frustration we were about to give up but then i realised i had lost my lucky pen!! So pen hunting we went and what do you know, we found the cache!! Was a few meters off track on the ground. Lucky find and luckier still we found my pen!!

28-Jan-14
Try my hardest to find it, but still couldn't, it's my second trip there , , Anybody who has another clue pplz share.

23-Dec-13
This one took longer than it should have. After parking we saw in the details we were in the wrong location... So we moved the car and followed a likely track - we were still off so changed to another track... Eventually we stumbled onto a geotrail and thought it would be easy from there.
It wasn't until we read other logs saying switch off the gps and ignore the hint; did we find it. Phew! Dad was getting VERY frustrated by this stage!
After finding the cache, Mum asked Dad (who grew up in the area) if he had ever been here - turns out he had approached gz from the other side when he was in primary school... It resulted in him having to write 500 lines when caught by the teacher "the no-mans-land at the end of the school grounds is out of bounds and no one has permission to go there". He still remembers it!

DNF... Must stand in the corner and try harder next time.

18-Aug-13
This took a bit of looking but we got there eventually by ignoring the hint and turning off the GPSr. Caching skills to the fore.

20-Jul-13
Given the difficulty rating I was surprised how quickly I found this one. Buts that's the way sometimes. Lovely spot. TFTC

After a revisit with a muggle a search was conducted, I was about to give up again when the muggle friend made his very first find.

A long extended search in the dark, but still no luck Sad

10-May-13
Nice easy find although hint mislead us a bit. TFTC

10-May-13
On my second visit and after much wandering around, I found it!! Then I realised I had left my pen in the car! TFTC.

01-May-13
thought i would take mr 5 and Mr 3.5 for an adventure this arvo
that is was for them they loved the Bear hunt we went on

30-Mar-13
We were looking for something a little different than what we found, but got there in the end. Searched two likely areas before extending the search area before we spotted something that alerted us. No sign of any wildlife at all today. The closest we got was the neighbours dog. TFTC

Usually see plenty of pukekos in our travels, but not today. No need for gummies either after a summer of drought.
Hint was a bit misleading, better to rely on GPSr.
