It was a wet and chilly day in Trentham today, but a planned outing with a friend was not to be missed. She was very keen to learn a bit more about geocaching, so we layered up and packed the umbrellas and ventured out.Again the GPS was leading us on a wild goose chase, but after reading another log realised our error. It was a pretty quick find after that. TFTC

DNF - I climbed that fallen tree twice.. scoured it. If it's still there, then I'm stumped ( free pun )My GPS has been out on all of these, but even with an increased search radius. Nope.

24-Aug-23
Another that took a bit of time, but unlike a couple of others, there was no happy ending here. Searched around what I though was a good spot, but alas it wasn't to be. Lots of undergrowth so I probably just missed....but we have days like that.

Thanks anyway feathertop....

28-May-23
It was a toss up today between walking or mtbing. Reluctant Geoteen declined my invitation to come along & I felt guilty leaving Geolabradog at home, so Shanks' pony it was.
I didn't intend coming here on a weekend but here I am........ on a cold, overcast Saturday.
There were people everywhere. I had made the mistake of returning to the main track before I looked at the map for this one. But I soon spotted a track that wasn't on the map. It led into a felled area that I quickly skirted around. There's still a huge number of storm damaged trees down. It was slow going but we got to GZ to be confronted with fallen trees on top of each other. My geosenses kicked in & I soon had the cache in hand. My notoriously bad GPS averaged 8 - 12m out all day. Many thanks

26-Apr-23
Gosh there's some big trees down in this area, would hate to be out here during a storm. Otherwise, a lovely way to end what's been a lovely day. Thanks once again Feathertop, will return in my bigger car to continue down the track... and swap my thongs for some decent shoes lol

We took the bush bashing way in but we got there. Thanks for this little loggy lovely

08-Sep-22
When i arrived at gz my heart sank, at least five big trees had fallen right where my gps pointed and there was just a huge tangle of branches. I searched high and low but couldnt see any likely cover that predated the rest. I widened my search and bingo, there it was, out of harms way.
Unfortunately i had spent so long that i had worried the neighbour who came out to investigate, but was satisfied when she saw that i was "just walking the dog"

Thanks found it! It's not where you think it is!!

GPS started to lead us astray and Lew made the comment "this tree fell down recently so it must be a new cache". Knowing this was a part of a series we changed our outlook and the cache was quickly in our hands. Thank you!

Went out with merkin of loki for our catchup walkies session, we both needed somewhere easy but lengthy and with a stunning landscape to boot. Trentham didnt disappoint and this trail was the perfect friend catchup walk!! We scored a stunning day and we had fun just blowing off the cobwebs of our cache finding skills.

Apparently it is the fifth element day today. Guess i know whats on tell tonight. Wind has picked up but its still sunny. Enjoying this series. Tftc

The Drovers had come down from New South Wales and we decided to meet them and do a little bit of caching in the area.

We thought that we would have a look at this trail and found it a little bit easier than expected so continued on grabbing a few more as far as we could get. It's only when we came to log the caches we that we realised that there were a few more left that we had missed so we will have to return to do these.

We enjoyed the hunt and all bar one cache was found quite quickly and the log books now contain our names.

Many thanks feathertop for a fun trail and the exercise.

27-Feb-21
Met up with Team Crackers in Tylden, and picked up a few caches while in the area.

We love Trentham as a holiday spot and were so glad that restrictions had been lifted so we could head out here to enjoy the second week of the school holidays exploring Trentham and it's neighbouring little towns. We arrived at our holiday rental yesterday and along with the many amazing things the house had to offer in the garage were a couple of bikes. So today joined with only 2 others from the Clan we took on the fantastic Domino Rail Trail just down the road from us on the bikes. I had caught up with all the family but hadn't avoided wet feet, with shoes soaked however the adventure was enjoyed all the same. We came back this different way on the loop and picked this cache up as well. Was a nice way to end a very enjoyable ride with a quick find from Geo-Dan. Thanks for a great trail Feathertop full of good caches

Disabled for the duration of the Covid-19 crisis. Advice is to stay home and geocaching is just a game. Geocaching encourages non essential travel and contact transmission is an issue so it is the responsible thing to avoid caching at the moment.
Thanks.

20-Mar-20
Continuing our way through the trail we noticed a rickety bridge before leaving the track to seek out this cache. Looks like this one has fallen for the container
Thanks feathertop for the series placement.

I needed a bit of a perk up, so very unexpectedly Sal and I went on a cache run and found around 13 (yes 13 - lucky for some, unlucky for others Wink !) of her caches - it is always nice going on a caching run with the CO. So despite the weather being quite cool, and we could see our breath in the cold drizzle that fell, our navigation skills were exceptional - ok, ok, being in the company of the CO meant we were never looking for long and we even replaced 3 caches so win win for everyone!

Loads of other walkers and joggers enjoying the cooler weather today on the Domino Trail too, but no other cachers as far as we could tell.

Thanks feathertop for the company and for the great little series.

This one took a bit longer to discover, but all good. SL at 2.37pm Took: racing car Left: mermaid PT. #6007 That’s enough walking in the rain, time to return to the geoCruiser and start our journey back towards our weekend accomodation at Bulla. TFTC feathertop - we will be back another time to find a few more.

Suscoe decided to have a day out around Trentham today.
Cold as could be up here today, oh well it is around 700 metres after all.
It was mostly overcast with a steady northerly blowing all day.
However it is always nice to wander around the countryside far away from the busy traffic elsewhere in the world.
The reason for today's expedition was the completion of the Domino trail. We are please to say we were able to sort out the hides and we enjoyed the wander along the tracks of this area.

Thanks to feathertop for another interesting hide.
What an impressive stand of trees along this old train alignment.

Found it! I can't remember if we walked along this track all those years ago. I think we may have missed the turn. Anyway, we found it today and enjoyed meandering through the trees. I wondered what was growing in the hot houses we passed. Maybe tomatoes?! A quick find was made by Muggle Heather at GZ. We also saw a red breasted robin! TFTC SL Smile

Fast find, lovely to see this part of the bush

14-Apr-17
Since I first heard about it I'd always wanted to walk this rail trail. The kids are old enough now and the weather was great so why not today!?
We had a heap of fun on this very scenic walk and the kids loved it just as long as there were plenty of snack stops along the way. Falling asleep in the back seat on the way back home helps as well.

Quite a detour away from the old rail line to find this one but it meant that we were able to see our first (and only) roos for the day. A few less walkers made for a peaceful stretch.

Have been looking at this series for a while and penciled it in to do whilst having a couple of nights away in Hepburn. Little did we know it was going to be the day after over 50mm of rain fell! TFTC.

This one took two attempts. On the way along the trail we headed down through a grassy area until we came to a padlocked gate. Even though it wasn't locked we weren't sure whether we should go in there as it looked like private land. On the way back we noticed a track on the other side of the fence so we headed down there and were soon within metres of GZ. After dealing with the cache we decided to continue along this track to head back. Thanks, as this was the last in the series for us we will give it a favourite point for the whole series which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Out for the day with a lovely group of fellow cachers. Enjoyed the walk of the Trentham rail trail and thought we'd pick up a few more on the way home.

25-Apr-16
Out with a great group today enjoying a fantastic Autumn day. Yogster, Jaggedwings, Cherad and Fergzter made up our group. We had a great time following the trail and accumulating smilies. It's a great trail with beautiful scenery. TFTC. TNLN.

Out geocaching today with GeoYogster, Jaggedwings, Cherad and Mi5sie. It was decided via facebook that the Domino trail was on the "to do" list. So at 10am we all met at the Trentham Train Station and started walking. We enjoyed doing the walk and managed to get every cache in the series. Despite a few geokids dragging their heels we managed the whole thing in about 3 hours. We saw tractors, dirt bikes, bicycles and horse riders on our wander along the trail. A lovely day had by all. Thanks for placing this series for us to find Feathertop.

25-Apr-16
Found with Yogster, Jaggedwings, Mi5sie and Fergzter as we set out to enjoy the day, and this amazing trail, the youngest member of our team along with all the other geokids loved investigating everything. We didn't know this area was here, and it is such a beautiful area. Thanks Feathertop.

02-Mar-16
TFTC. Out to do the Domino Trail today with McStormy. So I looked at McStormy and says,"We're getting further away from the rail line." "Could be something to do with that house over yonder", he replies. Who puts a property in the middle of nowhere? Cache was located quickly and back on the trail we went. Six down.

02-Mar-16
Out for a bush walk today with GeoYogster and decided to nock of your series. TFTC Feathertop.

Out and about today in Trentham with Ausfox and Bentley in the scenic Trentham Blakcwood area. A beautiful sunny Saturday to be out bush.

Managed to pretty much drive this whole series, with roads running alongside the trail. Thanks for putting this together, found them all and really enjoyed this old rail trail.

In the area today with ST37E and Wozzle 68 with the aim to complete the whole of the Domino Trail. We parked the car as close and we could to this one and completed the rest of the trail on foot. It was a nice cool day for the walk. This one was quickly spotted and signed. Thanks for the hide.

Found by Team Ninja 02/01/16, find number 718.
After staying in Daylesford with the family for a few nights we were heading home and detoured via The Domino Trail to find a few caches in the series. We were originally planning on doing the entire series but we spent longer than anticipated in Daylesford and were pressed for time. We were very pleased to discover the trail now runs all the way to Lyonville so we will complete the series from the other end of the trail next time we're here.
We completed this walk in December 2006 so it was interesting to see the changes almost a decade later. Previously the old railway went through private property and the section had to be detoured around. It has since been opened up and it is possible to walk all the way through on the old railway. We followed the railway for the walk out and walked back via the detour as we returned to Trentham.
After two previous DNF's I was very glad to locate our final cache for the day. The thick clouds and trees were causing havoc for the GPS but after a few false starts it lead me to something that matched the cache name and after searching up and down I spotted the cache. I had a rather large TB to drop off so I was glad that it (just!) fitted in this cache!
I thoroughly enjoyed the series feathertop, thanks for placing these caches. Rail trails are always enjoyable to walk or ride along and having a series of caches along the track significantly enhances the experience!

Had a bit of trouble with the phone in these parts but eventually spotted what looked an obvious place in the distance... Bit worried about snakes but I'm sure 3 noisy kids kept them well away. Look forward to bringing the bikes out sometime to finish these off. Nice hide, Cache in good condition TFTC

Found OK. Good to find one after missing out at the bridges. Coordinates seemed a bit out but the cache name helped

With and RDO today, I wasn't going to waste it. Even though the forecast was only for 12 degrees, it wasn't going to deter me. Should I walk, or should I ride ?? The bike won out, so It was time to don the helmet and set off. The first part of the track was very bumpy, with sleepers galore !! The rest of the track was fine. I had a blast today, between the showers and the sunshine. Luckily I had no DNF's, but a couple were very close !! There was a good variety in the hides and the scenery was ever changing. Thanks for showing me a part of the world I hadn't visited before. TFTC feathertop Big Grin

Travelling around Australia and we are currently staying in Woodend.

Today Mr Felix decided he would like to walk the Domino series out of Trentham so Mrs Felix dropped him out of town and he ambled along collecting smilies and enjoying the forest on a 'dry' cool Winters day. Just perfect.

Mrs Felix headed into town and collected the local caches before we joined up to head home. Cool

I had some spare time today so I thought I would get the treadly out and do this series. Well it turned into a bit of a disaster for me, partly through lack of planning for what I thought would be a straightforward rail trail ride and partly due to the lack of trail markers here when veering off the main rail trail. I was lost and heading towards Lyonville at one stage and pushing the bike through the bush at others. [B)]

And this is the one where I started to go wrong. After locating the cache and signing the log, I headed down the track again only to miss the unsign-posted turn back onto the hard-to-see walking track and consequently ended up continuing down the track and only coming back onto the rail trail after the next two caches. I managed to pick these up on the return trip.

Thanks for the series feathertop.

15-May-15
I spent today caching in and around Trentham. After having a yummy lunch at Chaplins I continued this trail. What a beautiful trail it is once it narrows off. Just a gorgeous area of bush with Rosellas galore. Many thanks for placing caches here for us all to enjoy and discover. Those I found were all nice and easy.
