Now that is an impressive waterfall! Gathered the required information, wandered to the falls, took some photos and then headed quickly back to the car and out of sand fly range. Visited with rumpuslabs, tftc!
TFTC! Thankfully highway 6 has finally reopened just in time for our journey to Frans Josef! Stopped off at thunder Falls for a quick snack and to gawk at the waterfall.I have attached a picture of me squinting in the bright sunlight by the viewing platform.
It's day five of my 3-week bucket list road trip around South Island, and today, I'm heading from Fox Glacier to Wanaka via the Haast Pass.I really enjoyed today's drive, and its high point for me was probably Thunder Creek Falls ... it's awesome! It was actually funny trying to get the required info ... lots of muggle tourists, from buses mostly, kept congregating for a chat at the both ends of the track right where I wanted to be.Thanks for bringing me here and for the geology lesson les_premos. It's getting a fave point from me.
I stopped at this cache only because of the earthcache and the knowledge I knew I would learn.Thank you for bringing me here to visit a place I have driven past in another life. And thank you for taking the time to put this cache together.Standing on the upper level of the viewing platform seemed to be an invitation for me to offer myself as lunch for the resident sandflies who glady accepted . Another earthcache that has taught me a little about the world I live in. And a magnificent waterfall to boot !!.
Day twenty two of our epic New Zealand Adventure with The Morris.Traveling between Queenstown and Fox Glacier.A lovely drive through the mountains and around the lakes, out to the West coast.A great spot to stop and have a short walk to some lovely falls. It got a bit crowded as a couple of buses unloaded piles of muggles at the falls.I think we got most of the questions correct though.Answers sent to the CO.Thanks, Robmc.
Day 23 of our Enzed adventures with Robmc and today we drove from Queenstown to Fox, a long drive with a couple of stops along the way.So many people here! Nice easy spot to walk to I guess. Robmc has sent our answers. Thanks for contributing to our amazing holiday les premos
Went on an official excursion to look at the nearby waterfalls today. I use the term official loosely, as it involved Nobby insisting we take a scenic route, which turned out to be through half the Shades and a rather suspicious cabbage patch.Arrived at the waterfall, which was impressive in its own waywater tumbling dramatically down rocks, birds fluttering about, and the sound of rushing water drowning out my thoughts. I was just starting to enjoy it when Nobby slipped and fell in. He emerged sputtering and shouting about how he was merely testing the depth for everyones safety. He now smells like wet cabbage.Carrot, of course, thought this was a fantastic opportunity for a team-building exercise. He started assigning everyone roles: Nobby as the deep end tester, Detritus as the muscle, and me as the concerned supervisor. I tried to explain that my job title doesnt include water-safety expert, but he was too busy building a safety raft out of twigs and bits of his uniform.Meanwhile, Colon spotted a rather large fish leaping out of the water. He promptly declared it the most dangerous fish in the city and tried to catch it with his bare hands. Ended with him falling back into the water. I have to hand it to him; hes consistent in his commitment to absurdity.By the time we left, Detritus had constructed what he proudly called a waterfall defense mechanism using twigs and some leftover rations. I told him we should probably focus on more pressing matters, like getting back to the city without further incident. Remind myself never to take a team-building trip again.
CaptainVimes and I have crossed the pond to attend the Geo Toroa mega in Dunedin and tour around the South Island for two weeks.Beautiful place. Not much observation required earthcache-wise.Thanks les_premos and happy caching
#3974 Today is day 17 of my geocaching vacation in New Zealand. I'm driving from Franz Josef to Wanaka and finding geocaches along the way.Found it! Short walk to the falls.les_premos, thank you for the cache!-crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on October 17, 2024 @ 14:43:28[GC3RKC1] Thunder Creek Falls was a D1.0/T1.0 Other Earthcache at the time of finding.
We decided to call at a few waterfalls on our way to Wanaka today and I'm delighted that there is an EarthCache here. I gathered the info and have messaged the CO. We enjoyed the waterfall even if we did get bombarded by flies as we descended the platform. Thank you for highlighting some interesting features of this place. Tftec
On secondment to Melbourne, Australia, combined with short holidays here and there. From day 49/74, I was accompanied by my dear son, geocacher Ruupertti, who travelled from Finland to visit me in Australia and to spend a holiday with me in New Zealand at the end of my secondment. Day 69/74, Saturday. Finally time for our holiday in the beautiful New Zealand, day 5/7! Today we drove from Fox Glacier to Lake Hayes (near to Queenstown). We drove via Haast Pass, Lake Wanaka, Lake Hawea, and Cardrona. We saw some awesome views, waterfalls, etc... and we really enjoyed ourselves today. Wow, what a beautiful place this was and awesome water fall!! We simply loved the place! A favorite point from me, definitely. I sent my answers to the CO and I attach my photo too. Thank you for the cache and greetings from Vaasa, Finland!Logged with [GCDroid](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gcdroid).
Hello from Seattle, geocaching ground zero! This was a quick stop on our way up the river. Thanks!

On our fifteenth day in New Zealand we drive from Haast to Queenstown. This beautiful cache was on our way.TFTCHennesAt the end comes the poem of the day.New ZealandBy James K. As youngest team member of team GO_Jack, I want to do some caches during my six-month trip to New Zealand and Japan.Today I drove from Wnaka to Haast on the west coast. Stopped at this waterfall along the way. Once again a beautiful piece of nature. Our team leaves a favorite here.Greetings from The Netherlands.#3.600 - les_premos TFTC!
Another wow-waterfall, this one with alot of water! Thanks for the cache./herrFamaxe from Sweden
Stop over at this impressive fall. Quickly collecting some data and making photos, so it is when on your way with a group. Left a favourite point here. - T4TC!
After enjoying a lovely stay at a local tiny house, GeoJayne and I made our way from Wanaka to Haast to Fox Glacier. It was another lovely day and we loved all the sights we saw along the way. Geocaching takes us to all the best spots, doesn't it?I'm not sure that I will ever tire of all the beautiful views here in New Zealand! I know we have beautiful places in the U.S., as well, but really? It seems as if there's a scenic overlook every 10 feet.We have seen a lot of waterfalls, but I never get tired of them. This one was no exception.Answers have been sent to the CO for both of us. Thank you for the smiley and the fun!
Just getting around to logging the caches I found while visiting New Zealand from the U.S. with LaFavorite Cacher. We had a great time traveling around the country seeing the sights and picking up some caches along the way.Thank you for being a part of our adventures!Note: LaFavorite Cacher has sent in the answers for any earthcaches or virtuals required for both of us.
We are currently on a eight week holiday which is mostly spent in New Zealand and Australia. However, the first three days were spent in Signapore as a nice break from an otherwise long flight. The day before yesterday we drove from Te Anua to Wanaka. Today we are already heading to our next desination, Fox Glacier. Not a too long drive so we have quite a lot of stops at interesting and/or scenic places of which there are plenty. Haast pass is realy amazing. Here we also had a stop and naturally we went to have a look at the Falls. We also visited the waypoints of this earthcache. The answers have been sent by e-mail. Thank you very much for this eucational earthcache.
During our two-month trip through New Zealand and Australia we travel today from Wanaka to Fox Glacier. We drive over the Haast Pass and along the way we stop occasionally to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. We enjoyed the waterfall, looked for the answers and took a photo.**les_premos**, thanks for the cache.
We drove to the West Coast by Haast Pass and stopped several times on the road for lookouts and falls. Very beautiful falls! The earthcache was very good: nice, easy and interesting. A lot of sandflies and old tourists.
**Log about this cache:**Very nice and we also met some Dutchies we first saw them at the Dolphin cruise about 3 weaks ago. This thunders **General log:**After years of planning and the canceling of trip due to the corona crisis, the time had finally come:***"more than 5 weeks in New Zealand".***And how beautiful it was!Visited both the north and south islands, many tourist attractions have a cache nearby so I could do some as well.Lots of virtuals and earth caches too and traditionals. But also done a few multi caches here and there also even a mystery and wherigo cache. The trip to New Zealand was great and we saw a lot of nice places. The country has so many different types of landscapes. And the nice thing was that it is winter in the Netherlands but summer in New Zealand Too bad it takes so long to fly and that the flight is so expensive otherwise i can go here next year again. Now you can enjoy it, logging the caches is also part of it. I will try to email the answers for the earthcaches and virtual caches to the relevant co`s as soon as possible. But first log all caches and upload the photos .Submitted via Garmin Live Geocaching
I am with Muggle on a three and half week trip to NZ. Nothing serious, just the well trodden track every NZ tourist does who is coming from the other side of the world and has not the chance to come here more often. North Island is done, Auckland Coromandel, Rotorua and Wellington touched. We arrived in Picton and transfered to Motueka. Next stops werePunakaiki and FJ. Now we are heading for QT. On the way I marked some spots to get away from the wheel and enjoy nature. Ate the falls a lot of people were parking and in front of them all wished that the others were not there. Thx for hiding.
Today, on our way south to Queenstown we passend this pretty falls. Thanks for sharing this EC!Answers sent and photo included

16:39 FITW my MomI didn't really understand the first question - what cache!? Do you mean the donation box? I will assume just that What an impressive waterfall! And only a minute in from the road. Have driven past and not stopped at this at least 4 times before! This time a stop was made, and the reward is huge!Did a bit of rock hopping to get closer and take some pics from a different perspective too.Answers sent on Jan 11th.There was also the AdLab location too, of course Kia ora! Paldies! Thanks for the cache, les_premos!#10102
Quick stop on our way along Haast river. It was raining and everything is wet. Romantic..... Thanks for the invitation and greetings from the Czech Republic.
Another lovely area with a dramatic waterfall as a backdrop and some really interesting facts on the information boards. Gathering some of the information required became nigh on impossible when hoards of fellow travellers suddenly descended upon us - all of them I highly suspect were all muggles but that does not preclude them from enjoying a lovely spot. Answers sent to CO. TFTC.
After years on our bucket list and three cancellations due to Covid, we are thrilled to finally be here. Following several cruises we flew from Sydney, Australia to Wellington, New Zealand to begin our next adventure. Picked up our rental vehicle and will be driving, exploring, hiking, and caching both islands for 3.5 weeks. A steady rain was falling, but it didn't slow us down. Thank goodness we had umbrellas in the car. We gathered the needed info, took pics, plus reflected on the beautiful view and falls. Our answers have been sent via the message system and we appreciate the CO developing this geological lesson. Thanks for adding to our adventure today, Nukeworker and Racquetball Girl, Arkansas, USA
Lots of tourists here today and very annoying sandflies! Answers obtained. Fantastic waterfall.
Together with Travelser I'm going Down Under. We are driving around with a motorhome. After 7 weeks driving around through Australia we arrived the 2th November in New Zealand. For ten days we will cross the Northern Island and than for 2 weeks the Southern Island.During our trip we of course search for several caches. Most of them brought us to very nice spots, like this one.All the CO's, and in this case les_premos, thanks for bringing us here and give our trip a special accent.

I’m visiting New Zealand from Perth, Western Australia. Today we travelled from Franz Josef down to Wanaka in appalling weather conditions. So much rain. It’s interesting that rainfall here is measured in centimetres (and on Milford and Doubtful Sounds in metres). Where I’m from rainfall is measured in millimetres. The huge amount of rain resulted in spectacular waterfalls all along our drive. It was magnificent. Thank you for setting up this Earthcache.
The complete month march I am travelling on both Islands. Christchurch heading south, next the westcoast. AbelTasman-Wellington-Rotorua-Hahei and finally Auckland. This was one of the caches I found; thanks for showing me the area.
Thanks so much for the perfect earth cache, a wonderful stop on the way from Auckland to Queenstown, north to south. The whole trip was beautiful and these beautiful waterfalls made it even better. Thanks a lot for the sample and the cache. Greetings from the Czech Republic, from Bilovec.

Very late log. My wife and I took a big trip through the South Island . We stopped at many waterfalls along the drive from Wanaka to Franz Josef. This was one of them. I don’t recall the sand flies being as bad here as some later ones. Beautiful place!
We stopped at all 5 stages of the Haast Pass adventure lab, but lost signal after just one and couldn't get it restarted. Still, we did find a few caches and enjoyed the waterfalls.
Our coach stopped here on our way to Queenstown . Spectacular falls and a interesting earthcache. Greetings from Scotland Tftec

A long but enjoyable drive via the Haast Pass, several waterfalls, Lake Wānaka and Lake Hawea - the landscape changes constantly.

This was the last cache on our day trip from Queenstown...what a wicked waterfall! And so many hidden falls on the road here...well worth a slow drive and peeking down any crevices along the road side. A nice short walk minus the sandflies that have come out to greet us.
On my way to Ross for a spot of whitebaiting and getting a few caches on the way. Great looking fall. A second visit was needed as I forgot what to count but that was no hardship. Thanks
On the way to Queenstown we passed this very interesting location too. Especially after a lot of rain, as we experienced, the waterfall is very worth to seeing.

There were plenty of roadworks along our journey today. It just so happened a traffic light had been put up right opposite the track entry. We had a red light so we shot across the road and parked up. Lovely walk to a great waterfall. Must be spectacular when there has been some rainfall. Took lots of photos and went back to wait for the green light. Answers have been sent. Logging in anticipation of correct responses. Many thanks for setting this up.

I've actually swum in the pool at the bottom of the waterfall, many years ago. A whole group of us crossed the river. Mad.
Out geocaching on a sunny day as we make our way through the Haast Pass. Great waterfall and enjoyed answering the questions. Thanks les_premos.
We got here just before a bus load arrived, but we had enough time to go through all questions before it was a case of standing road only.. Merlot had sent our answers on my behalf.
A drizzly rain was falling when we stopped here. Just as we finished getting the answers a tour bus arrived so we raced down to the falls to get the last answer and take our pictures before the crowd arrived. Thanks for bringing me to this earthcache.
I write "WRITE NOTE" because it is a time when we can't go on a long adventure, so I travel in the memories of my visits to New Zeusemad. Of this adventure in New Zealand, I only stretch Travel Bug. Writing "FOUND IT" is probably not right anymore, it wasn't today, but I was here before. And unfortunately I won't get here again.
