The cache has gone missing and the night herons no longer nest there. As there is a new cycle bridge in place another cache would be more appropriate
A free day to cache after coming to Whanganui for the 20th Community event yesterday. Nice day to be out on a motorbike on some country roads. Have tried and failed to find this cache several times. The new bridge looks great. Since I was last here they have also raised the handrail along the bridge. The visit was not in vain as the nearby cafe was wonderful.
Looked hard here and had some local assistance...pretty sure we had the right type of cache mind but no sign. Local workmen have made adjustments pn the bridge...may have muggled it.
Had a good search all along and on both sides ... but sadly didn't find the cache.
Missed this a couple of times but too kuch in a hurry in th3 past but kept an eye for logs that had found it as sometimes I can't think outside the but did today after taking some calm tim. TFTC
GPS kept placing me in the middle of the road so eventually left it for another day.
We stopped for lunch at the rather good nearby cafe after a trip up the river on one of the old riverboats. Went for a walk afterwards and it didn’t take long at all to find the cache - I have seen lots of this type of hide before. Signed log, TFTC!
This took us quite a nit of walking up and down the bridge before ste spotted something. Lovely nearby garden and a nice stretch of river. Tftc
What a hidden gem the cafe here is. Garden is lovely and seafood chowder delicious!
Have seen similar caches before so when it wasn’t on any other I guessed that’s where it was.
Thanks for placing and greetings from the .

Didn’t see the heron, just a duck. Thanks for all the information about the bird though. We’ve not heard of these before. A well camouflaged cache. Replaced as found. SL. TFTC.
It's a lovley spot up here. We didn't see any herons but spotted some eels in the waters below. I had seen other hides like this so it was an easy find. However the original log is full and the replacement piece of paper was too wet to write on. I tried my best! Unfortunatley I didn't have any other paper with me. Thank you for the cache!
As i was visiting a school up near whanganui today once i had completed my assigned tasks i thought i would locate a couple of caches i hadn't found in the area. i have only ever been to this church via the Waimarie so it was good to visit by road and to stop at caches along the route which were all fairly straight forward
so quickly located signed and returned to their hidey hole. No sign of herons here today
Thank you for these caches along this road and a few more smiley faces.

We very nearly did not stop to do this cache as being in a 7 metre bus parking can be a bit dicey at times. There were quite a few cars at the cafe but we managed to park outside some ones house (lovely garden). I then proceeded over the bridge went to far then located the cache. I always think these are so sneeky. Thank you for placing this cache.
Only just finished logging the 100+ caches from the weekend and am shattered. But now to start on the ones we desperately grabbed last Tuesday to qualify for the Skindo 250 finds in February! Thank god for working part-time. Coerced hubby to come and put the pedal to the floor. I should be at home getting ready for going to Wellington tomorrow for work. Never enough time! This was a quick find and we had the log out to sign to see it full so we added a sheet to it. TFTC
Finding some caches before judging dahlias at the Wanganui flower show. Thanks mjmnz for the cache,
Wandering up and down the bridge looking helpless as the GPS was all over the place and this lady stops and says "Are you looking for that geo thing?" Of course I answered yes and so she very nicely parked her car and walked along to point out what I was missing all along. Nice friendly locals around here. TFTC
Finally found it. I did wonder about something I saw on the bridge but didn't take it too seriously until I found the cache.
Down south after the Mega to find some new areas to cache, found with help from the lady in garden below calling out which way to go,
On way home from Mega in Turangi, picking up some caches. finally getting into familiar territory, a quick find made here. TFTC
Logged with GCDroid. Pulled over to have a drink from the cafe and also of course to find a cache just a few metres away. Have seen something like this close to home so knew what to look for. Almost lost the log in the wind but quick reactions saved it.
Log book full and needs replacing.

It took a wee while to spot this very inconspicuous cache, not quite what we had been looking for. We dropped the log, but recovered it. It is full. TFTC
Wanganui Day 2
This morning we concentrated on caches by the river side.
We found a variety of caches in many different hides. awe enjoyed our walk & drive.

ooohhh log blew away!!!!!!!! but lucky I managed to put my foot on it before it went over what a lucky save, this took much long than expected, hubby went in and grabbed some water while I hunted this little sucker down, nice area will need to come back with a picnic, thanks for taking the time to place these caches
GPS was jumping from one side of road to other but came right in the end. Log book nearly full. TFTC
Campervaners stopped in at the cafe for a coffee and geocache! Visitors from Canada. Tftc!
Taranaki Anniversary weekend and made the most of a fine weather weekend to climb Ruapehu for Santa's Secret cache. Now making my way home but first grab a few high FP geocaches and being a working day for most I can geocache mostly without muggles around.
Found some Moa, the Goose's roost, but no geese, and no Nankeen Heron, although the cache was an easy find. SL & TFTC.

We found this cache during our drive towards Tongariro National Park.
Today, we didn't spot any herons but found the cache.
Thanks for the cache.
Greetings from Portugal.
#9869, Found it with DroidCachebox!
We visited this cache during our trip through out New Zealand!
With our rental car, we explored the north island for 12 days.
NZ is a beautiful country and we really enjoyed our time here. We hope to return one day and explore a little bit more!
Day 2 - Wellington to Tongariro National Park
We left Wellington in the morning and drove up north, exploring some interesting spots on the way, mainly along the coast.
Thanks for the cache.

Found on the way from Wanganui to Ohakunewith great spots on the Wanganui River Road and the view to Mount Ruapehu in the end. Thanks
Found with Joshyreno on our way to The Flying Fox. The cafe was closed so I couldn't ask about the heron, had a little look but couldn't see any

Heading home after a week long solo camping and geocaching trip to Taupo. This took longer than it should have! I resorted to reading previous logs and got a hint from them about what side of the path I needed to be on. It was a quick find after that. Didn't manage to see a Nankeen Night Heron though.

Tricky hide! But after few minutes of looking on the wrong side of path, we found it TFTC
Took a wee while until my head got into gear & then I spotted it.Well done mjmnz, thankyou.
Nice bridge and felt really safe, passing traffic had no interest in us either.
Arriving at GZ and spotted the likely candidate, proceeded with the formalities. Could not see the water and it surroundings too well as it was quite dark, but a few bird calls in the night were pleasant.
Cheers

A twelve and a half hour road trip from New Plymouth down to Whanganui then up to Pipiriki, across to Raetihi then up to Taumarunui, and back to New Plymouth via Piopio. Eighteen caches in all; not a huge number but we were after interesting places to visit rather than lots of finds.
We picked up a few outstanding local caches, then stopped for lunch at a nice little café in Whanganui before carrying on.
This was number eight for the day. We wandered back and forth across the bridge a few times, with me checking one side and her checking the other, and eventually we, or rather she, got the cache. Nice camouflage; not the usual type we expected although we have found a couple of others like this around Whanganui.
Thanks for the hide.

Stopped for this one on the way to placing a new cache several KMs up the road. Wow the water nearly touched the bottom of this bridge during the recent floods. Very scary indeed. Nice little hide, made easy with the lack of traffic due to the main road being closed. TFTC
18111 km from home we found this Cache while our holidays. Thank you very much for hiding and greetings from Dresden, Germany!
Had time time to wander along and grab this one after having lunch at the nearby Cafe. Arrived here via a trip up the river on the MV Wairua one of the vessels the originally started navigating the river way back in 1904. TFTC
Up from Wellington and today travelling from Taumaranui back to Palmerston North via Pipiriki, grabbed a couple of caches on the way. We overshot this one last time through here, didn't make that mistake today, didn't see the heron. SL TFTC.
A weekend road trip of epic proportions. Gap (of Fap and Gap) and I plan to carve our way through the Waikato, Manawatu-Wanganui and Taranaki Regions while collecting an assortment of caches for various challenges we are working on. Should be a fun excursion...
A quick stop for this one. Not sure how the log is supposed to stay attached, but care is needed so that the paper doesn't blow away. TFTC.

Another weekend caching with Squirrel Nutcase, due to the kilometres we are travelling this time a over night stop in Stratford was needed. Number off D/T Ratings and old caches was our mission.
4.20pm - Parked up side road, no problem with find, café closed. SLTFTC

Had us searching for a little while but luckily LCBuilders keen eyes spotted it!
No heron to be seen today, in fact no muggles to be seen at this early hour of the day either. A quick find with no chance of dropping the cache into the stream below. TFTH.
Wind picked up so had to get baby home, going back for a look by myself soon GRRRRRRR
GGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any clues?c

August dot day and hunting those elusive last couple of souvenirs and therefore achieve the seventh. On an afternoon caching trip with tommy gun 9, spud nz and hunter hillson and the weather was the usual story, four seasons in one day, or everywhere you go you always take the weather with you. Luckily the rain held off and we were able to find all of our successful cache finds in dry and pleasant weather, for Winter anyway.
Nice and easy find today, don't often see these containers, nice hide but no bird life on view today, river was racing through

Third time I've come across one of these containers but this ones location isn't as good as the others have been - the specific location that it, out on the bridge is very good.
Found with SpudNZ, Capperz and Hunterhilson.

A small group of us headed over to Wanganui and surrounding area for a few caches today. Hoping to add to our August souvenir challenge and to our D/T matrix. A quick find by the others as I attempted a 13 point turn on the narrow road hoping not to put a wheel over the bank or for a car to hit the side of me. Thanks for the cache and the smiley. Found with Capperz, Tommygun9 and Hunterhillson
Geocaching expedition to Whanganui with Capperz, Spudnz and Tommygun9. Quick find at the GZ with the weather holding out long enough to enable the bridge crossing! No trolls and or birdlife on show today. TFTC!
Headed south with C&D, for a full weekend of caching, with the first cache being found at 6.00pm Friday night and finishing with an Event in Hamilton at 1.30pm on Sunday afternoon. Both of us had certain caches we were targeting for the Geo Licence series, as well as finding anything else we driving past, or near. All up we found 165 caches, travelled just over 1700kms and had around 5 hours sleep.
All in all it was an EPIC adventure, exploring in and around the Whanganui to Dannevirke area. We found some great caches along the way and saw some great sights. Thanks to everyone for placing all the caches.
No herons tonight .

Heading south for a bit of a caching trip in the company of HKCB both of us endeavoring to know off a chunk of the requirements for the Geocaching License Series (different stages, different requirements for each of us), so what better excuse for a road trip.
Between 6.30pm Friday and 1,30pm Sunday I collected approx 140 caches (HKCB=155) and many of these needing to be a great distance from home, so little sleep, so much caching
Some figures for the trip were
1/. approx 1700 kms
2/. Caches mentioned above.
3/. some very memorable caches in Wanganui
4/. lots of laughter and lies
5/. 4 hours sleep
No signs of the Herons tonight
thanks for the placement

Found after weekend of geocaching with tmann421. Interesting place for a cache, thanks
Yes a great hide. Been in cafe and had a small history lesson also showed the nan keen night heron in tree only one of 15 in New Zealand. TFTC.
Finally! With some help from Mrs Harries. Didn't look like I was going to jump off the bridge this time, in frustration! TFTC
Found this one during our month long campervan/"Road trip" vacation in New Zealand. It was a wonderful experience driving around this beaurtiful country.
This one was found on a day driving from Tongariro to Koitiata
Thanks to mjmnz.

Day 1 of the KiwiFruitsNZ/Vamber Wellington Adventure saw us make our way from Auckland to Wellington in an action packed day. This cache formed part of this "epic" road trip!
This one caused a couple of us some concern given the "drop" nearby to GZ but we braved it - only to find that we might be at the wrong GZ! Quick find after that!
