Having some insurance repairs done at home, and not wanting to be stuck there with 3 young kids we decided to take a road trip instead. So me and my 8yo, 3yo and baby did some tramping and camping in the area. Found after exploring the beach while staying at Whariwharangi hut.

We completed the Abel Tasman Coast Track from North to South. On day two we tramped from Whariwharangi over Gibbs Hill to Totaronui and onwards to Awaroa. AS low tide was quite late and the weather forcast not very nice, we didn't get started until 1pm. It rained most of the way and we were happy, when we arrived in Awarowa hut.

We had already found this cache yeasterday, but as the plan is, to find a cache everyday we saved the cache for today and walked to the cache again while it was nice and dry in the morning.

Thanks for this Cache!

Feeeeeee and I completed the Abel Tasman Coast Track from North to South. On day two we tramped from Whariwharangi over Gibbs Hill to Totaronui and onwards to Awaroa. Because low tide was very late we couldn't get started until 1pm and we met a continuous downpour from Gibbs Hill till the finish. We were very glad to arrive at Awaroa Hut!

In the morning the weather was still nice so we went for a stroll up and down the beach. On the way there we looked for this Cache and it could be retrieved very quickly.

Thanks for this Cache!

First find on way to Awaroa. Cache log is damp. TFTC

I was out on a 4 day walk of the Abel Tasman Track, from Marahau to Wainui. On day 3 I walked from Awaroa to Whariwharangi, but the weather was shocking, so I didn't stop to do any caches that day. Day 4 was a short walk from Whariwharangi to Wainui. Before I set off, I went for the short stroll from the hut to the beach and made a quick find of the cache here. A nice spot, favourite point added! TFTC!

17-Mar-18
Day 4 and this was by far the hardest day. With a 4:30am start dictated by the tides the tramp began with a 1km walk across the estuary to a narrow point on the otherside. Today was a cool day to be a geocacher as I had walked the estuary the night before, waypointed the track start on the otherside and was an easy cross in the dark with the trusty Garmin, followed by about 25 other hut dwellers.

Another slip required a huge detour over the hill which took hours and in the baking heat. By the time I reached the hut it had been nearly 9 hours on my feet and sure enjoyed sitting down.

The hut is apparently the oldest DOC hut in New Zealand and was a lovely old building with stories of it being haunted.

Collected this cache after dinner down by the water. A nice quick find and all in order.

Found with NZDi. After spending the past month or so stuck at home preparing our house for sale, the looming long weekend called for something special. So three nights were booked in a motel in one of our favourite places... Pohara and early on Friday morning we headed across the hills (firstly the Whangamoas and then the Takaka Hill). We didn't get off to a great start being held up slightly with a flat battery... perhaps I should have taken heed of what the AA man said a few weeks ago when he did a call-out to my address for a similar fault and bought a new one. Fortunately I have become self-sufficient in the flat battery rectification stakes and this was rapidly rectified. Knowing that we were going to a few out of the way places on our weekend endeavours and note wanting a similar experience, I purchased a new battery as we went through Nelson (I couldn't do it in Blenheim because we left too early).

The plan for the weekend was to do some caching in the Golden Bay area on Friday and Saturday, celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary on Sunday with a little more caching but some more traditional anniversary activities, and then do some more caching on the way home.

Yesterday's mission was to collect some of the caches in the Canaan Downs area at the top of the Takaka Hill, but that was cut short and we ended up doing some Wainui caches last evening.

Todays mission is to start at Wainui, head out to Separation Point, carry on to Totaranui, then return to Wainui over the Gibbs Hill Track. After coming back down the hill and past the cottage we arrived at GZ to find the cache visible for all to see in the second one. We unsuccessfully tried to camouflage the cache in the location we found it, but finally decided to relocate it to the fourth as described in the hint.

Have been keen to visit whariwharangi hut for several years, so this was a good excuse. Day trip from Nelson, drive over takaka hill, walk over the hill to whariwharangi, then the reverse to get home. Long day, we'll worth it. What a cute hut and fantastic beach. Rescued a trackable that had been stranded without being recorded. Left a trinket

The last day of our AT tramp; it's raining and we're heading back in to Totaranui to collect the water taxi back to civilisation, with a hot shower and a meat pie both at the top of the list!. But I m digressing, this is a last opportunity to find a cache or two within the park and mission is successful.

We stayed in the golden bay area for a few days and did a one-day-hike in the abel tasman NP. We started at the wainui carpark and made our way to the seperation point and back. Its a very nice area and we loved to explore all the hidden beaches. Unfortunately most of the caches which we found were in bad conditions, usualy wet. We also had a few DNF.
Thank you for this cache on this great walk!

Greetings from Switzerland, Team Fludia

During our Sabbatical trip we made our way to Abel Tasman as well. I found this one beside our walk around the northern loop today. It was again a bit tricky to find the right pass to it but was another easy grab and log Wink and the last one very close to our campsite!

Many thanks for hiding, moin moin, and best regards sends Dr. Dose...

Traveling together during our Sabbatical, I've found this one beside Dr. Dose and have shared the same nice experience as he did.

Together with Fenz i had the pleasure to visit New Zealand. We were traveling around for quite some time and thought: Why not combine that with some geocaching! That doubled the fun and we found a lot nice places we wouldnt have, if we werent looking for the boxes invisible to the other tourists. For details on our cache finds see the logs of Fenz. We want to thank all the owners for their effort, the nice hides and the fun we had on our journey! Definitely gonna come back to you Kiwis, greetings from the other end of the world, keep it on! Smile

The plan was to hike the Abel Tasman Track, but not the normal way, just backwards. So starting at Totaranui, going to Whariwharangi, to Awaroa, to Anchorage and back to the parking lot. Went great.

Stayed here for the night and could find this cache, and the one two trees before.

So far seen on this trip: Thailand and New Zealand.

TFTC from a geocacher on his journey through the world.

Danke!

My sixth cache on my first Great Walk! We had flown in from Wellington and had a great time in Nelson, before getting up at the crack of dawn to catch the bus to Marahau on Saturday. For my tramping companion (a muggle), this was her first time carrying such a heavy pack (all 9kg lol) and the first time she'd be sleeping in a DOC hut. Unfortunately, my iPad (where I'd saved a list of priority caches) wasn't charging, but I had a printout with some crucial details, so whenever I saw somewhere that matched the description, I took a chance and dragged my friend off on a short detour. She was quite happy to sit on the beach and scan for dolphins that the other walkers had all seen, but they proved elusive. However, I was luckier and soon found what I was looking for Smile Thanks for a memorable find on an awesome hike in a beautiful part of the world. Ps. We went back to the beach later in the afternoon and we rewarded with a spectacular display of marine mammal acrobatics!

We spent 4 incredibly wonderful weeks in New Zealand for vacation and
had a lot of fun to discover all the marvels of this country.
Day 21 - we hiked the northern part of the Abel Tasman Coast Track until Totaranui and back over Gibbs Hill.
It was pretty exhausting up the steep hill, but the views breathtaking and worth the effort.
Another brillant walking day in NZ!
Besides we still found time for geocaching and picked up quite a few caches on our way.
This was one of them!

TFTC,

12-Mar-16
From 19th February to 20th March Stadibast and I visited New Zealand. Half of the time we made a trip around the North-Island. After a short stay in Auckland we went to: Bay of Islands, Cape Reinga, Rotorua and the Wai-o-Tapu-Thermal Wonderland, the great Taupo-lake… We made a Rafting Tour in the Waitomo-Glowworm-caves or hiked the Tongariro–Alpine-Crossing and, and…
In the second part of our holidays we visited the south island, hiked in the Abel-Tasman-Reserve , went to the Marlborough-Sounds, the Golden Bay, the Oparara-Arch, the Franz-Josef- and Fox-Glaciers, had a great sight on Mt. Cook and Mt. Tasman, relaxed at the Wanaka- and Hawea-Lakes,….
New Zealand is a very amazing country and with exceptional natural sites. We are very impressed of these great nature monuments and sights and we are happy that we met so much friendly and helpful people.
This day we made a Trekking tour from Wainui, along Whariwharangi-, Mutton- and Anapai-Bay and back over Gibbs-Hill Trail.
Greetings from Germany.

Today we needed an excuse to get the boat out of the shed for the first time in far too long, great weather and Geocaching was it! Mum, Dad and I got as far as Whariwharangi, picking up geocaches along the way and going for a swim. We parked up on the beach at the first of these caches, and walked along to pick them all up. Three out of three along the beach before heading back uphill towards Wainui.

A bit of a stretch, but a quick, easy find before stopping at the Whariwharangi Homestead for a rest.

I'm not sure the dead stoat in the nearby trap was enjoying the day as much as we did!.

Thanks

I found this one on my five day 75 km tramp through the Abel Tasman. What a wonderful experience this was and more so with some nice caches on the way! Thank you to all the owners!

The last day to the end of the track at Wainui. The northern part really is much nicer than the popular south, also because it's so quiet!

13-Dec-15
Three sunny days on the Abel Tasman Track, one of them going by kayak. So I did my best to find some geocaches while walking part of the track. Liked the amazing scenery in the northern part of the track really a lot. Its a lot more quiet than at the southern end of the track. Had an amazing day on the water. Found this one quickly as it is out in the open. Not sure if this was the original place of the cache.
