Finally got to tick this one, that has been nagging me for years , off the list. Every time, the water has been too high to safely ford the stream, but today we finally came in fine weather after the rains had dissipated. It was still nice to have walking poles, to help balance & not slip while crossing the stream. Easy find at GZ, though there was a hole still apparent, hint item ( sign) has been uprooted and moved about 5 minutes further along the track and is just leaning there. Odd...Anyhow TFTC & bringing us here! It's a lovely track & reserve.
Note to self, and others interested in finding this cache. DOC says there is a stream crossing near the start of the track ( so the bridge is long gone)

We attempted this, but it seems there is no bridge anymore and we didn't fancy a stream crossing with the stream quite high.
DNA ️ Finally had the time to attempt this, and were excited exploring a track new to us, but were surprised a short way in to find a stream crossing! So sadl weren't prepared today for wading & wet feet. Reading logs afterwards, didn't realise there was a bridge, but No bridge now. Maybe another time ... Thanks anyway
Nice quick find as it was just lying out in the open! Hasn’t been found since 20/1/2018!!!!! Haven’t had any reception for this trip until we got to this high point so it was great to see there was a cache to be found! TFTC
I have messaged the local DOC people to give me an update on the track-since last reports that it was closed. Its a bit far to readily check but a worthy location.
Doc staff have replied to me that the track has been opened for several months. So should be good to go
Came here hoping to get this cache but notice at parking area says Track still closed.
We wanted to visit this Cache today. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the parking space we found the following sign: "Track closed bridge washout". So we continued on our way...
This has been a trip that has been planned fro a few weeks with the prime objective to Jet Boat down the Wanganui River fromTaumarnui to Pipiriki the following day, but firstly we had to get there. On this trip we were heading to Mt Damper, through to "The Forgotten Highway" before heading back up to Taumarnui to clean that area out.
So setting off after work in the company of HKCB, iammrwalker and Kyb3r we headed down this way to eventually make it cross country before thinking about a bit of sleep. Signed the log as HOAC to save valuable space in the logbook
Spirits were high, concersation rediculious and plans made for future trips. By now on this trip we were deffinatly on our own and the place was all ours (it would be hours before we saw another car, and infact we only saw 3 vehicles between turning off SH3 and when we finally made it sleep time at 4.30am).
Had in the past only ever driven past here but now its 1am it seemed an apropriate time to stop off and go for a walk. This was deffinatly the easier part of the walk however we made it to the top and back to the car in under 50mins so not too bad after driving 300kms and been awake for 21 hours at this point.
A big thanks to all the CO's who have placed and maintained the caches in the more remote parts of New Zealand.
Thanks for the placement, Thanks for the cache

We had planned a trip a few weeks ago to Jet Boat down the Whanganui River, something that had been on my to do list for a few years now, and the time had now come to head down to Taumarunui and jump on the water. However while discussing this with C&D we decided to throw in a side mission and try and locate a few caches along the Northern end of the "Forgotten Highway" including Mt. Damper Falls and finishing with a clean out of Taumarunui the night before because as C&D constantly reminds us "sleep is for the weak!".
So we set off at 5.30pm Friday night, with Iammrwalker and Kyb3r in tow heading to the first cache of the trip. This side mission turned out to be very successful with us completing everything we wanted with a few hours of darkness left to grab an hour or two of sleep before making our way to the Jet Boat. We signed the logbooks with HOAC a group caching name we use from time to time. A big thanks to all the CO's whose caches we found on this side mission.
Wasn't quite up for a walk up a hill at 1am in the morning, but since there is a plastic box up there I might as well give it a crack. Only took us about 25mins to this cache and about 20 on the way down. I was glad the sign's were fairly generous on there times. I was really impressed with the quaility of the track here too, so well worth giving this cache a go. Thanks for the hide.

I enjoyed the walk with the kids, and the trail and bush were very good. A nice place to visit which we never would have known existed had a geocache not been placed here. TFTC
It would have been nice to have somewhere to look out to at this lookout. There was more climb than we anticipated so took about 1 3/4 hours for the full loop, with stops. A quick find here before a bite to eat and a drink at the picnic table. tftc
Showers today but needed a walk just as well there was cellphone coverage, nice quick find
We were drawn here by the new DOC cache further down the track, so decided Mr Rattll would run up to this one while Mrs Rattll ambled over to the other one.
We weren't sure how steep it was going to be from the previous comments, but it turned out not to be too bad. We didn't time it, but would estimate it took him about 30 minutes all up, with him arriving back at the car shortly after me, having taken my time taking photo's along the way.
Thanks for bringing us to this lovely little area of bush.
Left a pet rock - a butterfly.

Heading home down the Forgotten Highway after from a couple of days caching and baching in Kuratau.
This cache was my favourite of the 34 found over the weekend.
This was hard work! Since when does it take 20 minutes to hike 700 m on an excellent track? And the DOC time is 40 minutes! And then, when you do arrive at the 'lookout' there's **no view,** other than the bush!
But it's the bush that makes this cache so good. The massive trees in here, and the prolific birdlife. Mind you I walked it just before sunset, and that's a great time to experience the birds. Tui and piwakawaka everywhere, plus a toutouwai (North Island Robin) even accompanied me hoping along the track just in front of me. Beautiful. Plus a swing bridge for the kids. Definitely gets a Favourite Point from me.
Oh the cache was "just a cache", thankfully exactly where it should be, and surprisingly dry. But the experience was Beautiful. And the true distance, don't be fooled, is **1.7km** each way according to my Fitbit.

It took a bit of hunting around, but finally found this cache & signed log book. TFTC
Beautiful piece of bush, with an amazing array of young podocarps. NZ Sandalwood in full scarlet-berried fruit. Loved the walk. TFTC
11.40am - Soon found entrance way and what a good walking track. Good morning workout up hill to GZ and didn't need GPS to find this one. Good hint made for a quick find but unfortunately there is nothing to see from here as trees have all grown up. Cache in good condition. SLTFTC
With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... A cache-hunting road trip into the King Country. The day started out bright and sunny, but the dark clouds rolled in as soon as we crossed over the hills on Highway 41...
This one was just out of reach for us when we traveled the Forgotten Highway last year. We had enough time today, and Gap was keen to give it a crack. I was more reserved, as the suggested time factor seemed excessive. However, the track was in good condition and the walk in took far less time than we expected. This one was duly found and quickly signed off... TFTC.

Decided to visit a few places along the Forgotten Highway before heading back to the Naki. We knew this one would take a while. The bush walks were well formed on the whole trip and despite recent rain were in good shape. Took the short route up, found the cache where it was hinted, and back down the longer route, all in an hour. For a more leisurely trip 1.5 - 2 hours should suffice. Well worth it but there is no view at the top/cache. Thanks for bringing us here.
Had been here to do the earth cache but not enough time to do the climb but this time with Tara ted knocked it off fab track TFTC
A pleasant afternoon for a swim but the sun was off the river by the time we got out here. TFTC
I was off for the long weekend picking up caches from Otorohanga to Taumarunui to Straford and back home if the weather held.
I really needed a good workout after the dinner I had last night. I took the short way to the top having a good huff and puff. It took me 15 minutes to locate the cache as a lot of cache-creep had occurred. I placed it back where it should be as per the hint.
Cheers for the cache.

Having driven down from Rotorua to Taumaranui, we intended to stop for the day but the weather wasn't promising and so we started the Forgotten Highway to Whangamomona. This was the first cache on route and a much needed breath of fresh air for the geokids. The 'short' way to the 'lookout' took us 50 mins return and was a delightful walk in the forrest and over the swing bridge. Cache was an easy find but to call it a 'lookout' is stretching the truth rather! There is no view in any direction. Loved the walk, thx for the cache but disappointed with the view.
