17 November 2024 3:22pm. Parked in between The Hurunui and Kaikoura to collect the cache after ThatDarnBear and MacPacMum's mad dash from Christchurch to Kaikoura for a FTF. TFTC bumandworker
MacPacMum and I are on a mission from Christchurch to Kaikoura to search for a FTF that has not been claimed after an entire week!Mission accomplished, which means time for lunch, and grabbing the odd cache or two (or ten) on the way back to Christchuch. Thanks for another smiley.
Tried a couple options to get to GZ probably did the most difficult in the end. Happy to get nearer and start searching. Yeh cache found. We are travelling to Kaikoura for the night. We're meant to be 4x4 into Clarence but canceled. Accommodation paid for and no refund so decided to cache on way here. Normally in motorhome so nice to stop and get some smiles. Thanks for the cache bumandworker
Initially headed for the wrong sign but a glance at the GPS convinced me of the error of my ways. Then tried heading for the wrong post but a glance at the GPS convinced me of the error of my ways - - - again. What would we do without navigational instruments !Thanks for the cache.
Went and checked the wrong base before checking GPS. Realized the mistake in few minutes and then it was an easy find. TFTC
We were supposed to do a whale watching trip today, but it got cancelled as the whales were outside the area. Instead we set off to find a few caches. A quick park and grab on our way north to Kaikoura. TFTC

My husband and I are on holidays from Brisbane Australia and today we travelled from Christchurch to kaikoura and picked up a few smiley's along the way. What great views nearby. Thanks for taking us here and for placing this cache here for us to enjoy
Day trip up to Kaikoura and then back via the inland road doing some work... pulled over to find quickly. Thanks for the placement.

TEMBO! and I made a stop to visit the Hurunui/Kaikoura Welcome point. I tried to put some plastic arround the logbook and tried the container a little bit.

Summer Geocaching Road Trip - Day 1 - Christchurch to Picton. It's been a while since I've been off on a road trip and this one has been on the cards for quite a while. I plan to visit some parts of the country where I've done very little caching before and hope to complete the qualification for a challenge cache in Nelson. The grass was quite damp on approach to the cache but it didn't take very long to find the container. TFTC, Biggles.
If it wasn’t for the geotrail I may not have ventured as far as required.
Thanks for the cache, bumandworker

This stretch of road is 60kph but you wouldn’t know it from the speeds of some vehicles. Probably 60 as part of the “safer” roads initiative. Cache wet but RITR paper so all good. TFTC.
Having a milestone birthday this weekend, my aim was 50 caches. That was too much for one day so the 50 finds were spread over the celebratory weekend, 1/2 on my way South and 1/2 on my way North.
This was find number 32 and easy from the correct side of the road. Dropped in a new bit of log paper too.

I let RNZ do the bush bashing here as there was a lot of rubbish & toilet paper around Bit sad that these pull over areas are treated like rubbish dumps
Heading back to Boomtown today from Christchurch & RNZ has targeted a few caches to grab on our trip back. Most on our side of the road home

Once i got my senses it was a quick find. Went towards the correct sign and then some. No issues, a bit damp but ok. TFTC B&W.
Driving today from Christchurch to Blenheim, and picking off a few caches on the way, as we tend to do. Mostly, but not exclusively, those on ‘our’ side of the road today. All pretty good, thanks all COs.

This wasn't where I expected it to be.
I had no trouble spotting it once at gz, but the container was open and the contents strewn about. The log book is wet too.
Thanks for setting this up

Searched in the wrong place to start with but headed to where gps was pointing and there it was. tftc
Time now to head back to the caravan but first we have to grab the caches we were unable to get heading north due to muggles at each stop. All clear here now and a new log and bag were dropped into this cache so see it through a bit longer. tftc
Looooong boring drive to Blenheim. Ohhh I know, I'll do some caches. Nice and easy. 2nd time looking for this one. Few extra Cache years made the difference. But after all that, Cache was water logged and unwritable. Photo to prove it....Cheers.
Out doing a cache raid up the Inland Kaikoura Road from Waiau after a day and night of rain and snow and then back down via SH1 to Parnassus and Leader Rd to Waiau.
I just can't recall exactly how many times I have driven past this cache and failed to stop. My excuse for a number of years was that all the possible parking was taken up by roadworkers repairing earthquake damage or I had the caravan in tow and no parking was available, or I was in traffic or I was in a hurry to get the caravan somewhere else. Today, as I climbed up from the coast I was caught behing 3 large truck and trailers and I prayed that none of them would stop at the top of the hill to let slow traffic pass and take up any/all parking possies. When I spied the large area available on the other side of the road I quickly pulled over and parked. Probably just as well as 2 of the trucks pulled over and took up all the remaining space behind an already parked truck. Phew! The cache was a quick find. Another oldie off my unfound list. [^] Cheers B&W.

Made the same mistake as others before me of looking at the sign. Then I realised that the GPS had not counted down far enough. Followed it a bit further and there was the cache. TFTC.
Found with NZDi. It is Waitangi Weekend and NZDi decides she wants to spend a few days in Christchurch to do some retail therapy. A couple of our grandchildren have birthdays coming up and she can't find anything suitable in the local stores in Blenheim and is hoping the big city has a better selection. The plan is to travel south on Friday caching along SH 1, do the shopping on Saturday morning and cache out at the McLeans Island MTB park in the afternoon, then head home on Sunday with a detour to cache the K2R- Passchendaele Memorial Path between Kaiapoi and Rangiora (I guess that is what K2R stands for). Throughout the weekend we dated and signed our logs in full, as KM + ND or a combination of both depending on the room available on the sheet/book.
Today is day one of the trip and having pretty much cached out SH 1 between Blenheim and Kaikoura, our aim is to attempt to do the same between Kaikoura and Christchurch. This is our tenth cache of the day in our attempt to finally turn SH 1 from Blenheim to Christchurch from green to yellow. We have sopped here before for an unlogged DNF, but it was raining and we were hoping for a QEF PnG. When it became obvious this was not going to happen we decamped promptly. We were not going in the optimal direction today but as we approached GZ traffic was light so we stopped. This time I had read some previous logs and took more notice of where c:geo was directing me and eventually got the desired result.

We have been here before but this time with more determination than ever, we must find. So with CO’s words ringing in our ears...” you should go further in...”, we did and we were successful. But, we are fairly sure we had checked gz last time and no sign of said container. Got there in the end, tftc
Couldn’t find this one. But I did find a possum and a sheep leg which severely put me off searching any harder
well, there you are
are people looking at the sign base I wonder...that is not where it is....go a bit further in.

Put in a decent hunt here, trusted the gps and we seemed to e directed to a very large kowhai tree, but no cache to be found for us today. We'll kerp watching
Heading to Kaikōura for the weekend, with just a few stops along the way I thought I will never find it, it was so well in!! TFTC!!
We left Feilding n.z nearly two weeks ago and went from picton to reefton over Arthur's pass which we really enjoyed then Christchurch for a couple of days to get a trail done and of course some other caches along the way so far we have managed to get over 300 caches a great effort we thought we would try and average 20 a day.
Now we are getting this cache a nice area to discover a cache stamped the log and placed it back where we found it thank you for placing a cache here and bringing us to this location. Cache is all good here tftc great countryside

Got wet feet here, but had to admire the beautiful flowers of the nearby vine. Bit of fossicking with Jude_E and the cache was being signed. TFTH
One of my favourite fruit is growing here - many of these banana passionfruit grow along Queen Charlotte Drive and are nearly as bad as Old Man's Beard there. But they sure taste good. Wee bit far to go get them from Christchurch though and it will be a few months before they are ready. BP spotted the cache and signed for us. Thanks for placing the cache here.
I'm not sure how a "spied but not retrieved" is a find but each to their own. Gave it a good long look and finally located it well tucked away downstairs with no logs since 2016. Cheers, not long till the banana passionfruit is ripe.
The hiding place appeared to be quite clear to me upon close-up searching, but both possibilities were empty.

A bit of stealth required here. Spied but not retrieved due to being interrupted by a road worker.
Sixth stop on my cruisey way home after a weekend meeting in Chch. Still raining, and most drivers didn't see me as they were concentrating on the wet road. I followed my GPS but again it was telling me porkies -I'm pretty sure the cache was not in the middle of the road!! I looked in the likely spots, then checked the hint just to make sure I wasn't going mad but that didn't help me much other than to tell me I was working along the right line of thought. All I found was a small rectangular clip-it container sized/shaped dry-grass hole in a particular spot. Either its gone or I was not looking far enough afield . I contacted the owners but have not heard back. And I am not sure how much more fruit will be at this spot as it looks like the weather has got the better of the source. Still, I had another peaceful albeit damp stop so TFTH PS I am happy for someone to tell me they have since found it and I just didn't look hard enough!
Picked out a couple to do on the way home, especially for my other half who suffers from car sickness, so a good reason for a break. My goodness this was "no walk in the park!!" We really had to look hard and in quite constricting circumstances so really chuffed to find. All in good order though. Thanks.
We are on our way home not feeling too well, so stopping often. Perfect chance to get some caches along with the fresh air. A bit chilly out today. The log was quite wet, and the bag ripped so I put in a replacement log and bag. I only have small log papers on me though, so may not last long on this busy SH1. Tftc.
No find sorry unless it is up the banking in the trees. According to my GPS at the sign it was 11mtrs into the undergrowth
With a few more days of holidays left we decided to head south again and find some caches we didn't have time to look for last week, plus some more off the beaten track. This was one of 51 found today.
Thank you to all CO's who made this possible.
Thank you to all CO's who made this possible.
Our recent multi day Canterbury cache raid was so successful we decided to have another one before the holidays finished. Again we got stabbed, prodded, pricked and scraped by the variety of hedges the region is so famous for. And of course we can now hold our breath a lot longer. A skill well worth developing to avoid breathing in part of the road surface every time a vehicle passes. Just over 200 finds were logged this time and a great time was had finding the caches with a variety of shapes, sizes and placements. A big thank you to all COs who made this possible.
Driving south from Picton to Parnassus today picking up a few caches along the way. Stopped and carefully crossed the road. Took a short time to locate GZ and find the cache. Thanks.
I was staying at the Parnassus caravan park and decided to have a caching day out doing the caches along the Inland Kaikoura Rd starting near Waiau.
I wonder what some of the people thought What I might have been doing as I came out of the bushes.
Cheers for the cache.

This one wasn't quite what I thought it would be. After swimming through the long grass to the sign, I was led further than I thought. After finding the cache I had to hang out for quite a while to avoid scaring oncoming traffic by emerging from nowhere. Tftc!
Heading on a road trip north for the week. Day one from chch to Blenheim today and a few geos on the way. Tftc

Mega trip to NZ: day 3, alone with my beloved squib. We wanted to drive to Kaikoura and find some caches on our way. Long wet grass.. Thanks for the fun and greetings from Finland.
Found it with Team FIN [janahola, kapeka, laalaa & temyllyl]
We had fun with caching few weeks here in New Zealand. Lots of geocaches and many sort of them too. We saw awesome places, weather was pretty good all the time and people were friendly and polite. Caches were pretty similar like in our home country. Of course there were some exeptions. Nice and really scenary country!

We loved our visit to Kaikoura and this was our final cache. Well placed so we could rummage around out of sight though we didn't have to for long. The cache was a bit wet inside, the log was damp but okay. TFTC bumandworker.
Backed into the spot well off the road as it is starting to get busy with trucks and others heading North as I am - how rude of them to want to be on the road at the same time. However, found this one in a similar state to Mina Station - damp log book - sorry couldn't change it for you as I forgot to put in my spare stuff. Good place to stop and stretch the legs as well.
[green] At last I am on my way to the mega. Two weeks of insane caching in Christchurch. Looking at 7 Badgegen upgrades, a 200+ cache day and, of course, the Mega. But first I have to get there. It took me 9 hours to drive to Christchurch, pretty much what I expected, found 55 caches along the way.
Nice quick find here. Kinda glad this state highway has almost no traffic on it! Otherwise I would have had to save this cache for on the way back north, two weeks from now.

Found on the drive north from Christchurch to Golden Bay. On the road before sunrise and I was timing the journey to be in Nelson by 4pm to meet dad at the airport. The weather was not too bad most of the way, but starting getting a bit dodgy through The Whangamoas. Looked around the obvious location, then re checked the gps and found shortly after, der! Quick find on the way to Kaikoura for the weekend. Not where I thought it would be but a quick find none the less. TFTC.
Nearing end of caching day as we approach our destination, many B&W caches later !
The last day of nightowl19's holiday visit to the South Island with me and so a road trip down to Christchurch airport to meet an afternoon flight was in order. Leaving early so to get the most from our journey we voyaged South in search of seals; large, small and medium and were not disappointed, oodles of them. Took in a few caches on the way down too (of course) and a visit to the city to see the rebuilding progress. It's been just under 3 years since I last visited and 7 years for nightowl19 so lots has changed for both of us. Weather was distinctly average for most of the day, drizzle and a cool breeze kept it down, compared to earlier in our week, and the lucky North Island.
Well, nightowl19 has been dropped off at the airport after a great few days together to fly back to North, well owls can fly can't they?
Heading North on the way 'home' and all is quiet in the car with the nightowl gone, not even any NOW 45 or Pop Party C D to listen to, yay. Luckily most caches on the way beack were on the proper side of the road for a quick park and grab.
Took the wrong route at first trying to find without G P S. Grabbed out the car then made the find in a nice little spot.
