Rocking Horse Ridge was a lovely surprise after the climb up the steep, slightly muddy track. The cache was a quick find and it was in good condition. Thanks for bringing me here.
Enjoyed the rocking toys here which must be great fun and something of a surprise for young kids. Found easilyThanks Zathrash
I was in the area early this morning and had a bit of free time, so decided to explore this terrific track a little. This cache was my turn around point before heading back to my car which was parked in Major Drive. After having a good laugh at the wacky goings on at the location, I set about tracking down the cache and soon tracked it down.I'd managed to lose my pen at some point along the track, so I hope that the CO is happy with a photo log. Thanks very much for the cache. FP added.
What a surprise rocking horse ridge is. Kids found this one. Left pen in car. Contents: lego, eraser and shell.
I’ve removed the soggy stuff and dried it out so the cache should be good to go again. Interesting to see lots of improvements around the track - the local volunteers have been busy.
Thanks to those who noticed the soggy nature and replaced the logbook. I’m go g to check it this morning.
Loved the walk through the bush, got quite a surprise when I came around the corner to GZ! Found the cache quickly, unfortunately everything is soaking wet, the logsheet is pretty much unsignable so I've added a small strip of waterproof paper to the cache. TFTC
Out on a tramp with the HVTC, thanks John S. Explored to circuit from 4 Square up Speedys and around west side.
Cache in urgent need of care, needs waterproofing and new dry logbook with waterproofing.

Funny place to see a rocking horse Nice patch of bush, shame about the climbing asparagus. Speedy find, not so much the uphill climb. Cheers ZathrasH!
I went into Petone for some bits then decided to come up this way for todays cache. Hunted for but sign the two earlier caches - I am going to save them for after work maybe in the dark later - when streak caching though winter is not pleasant unless you know where the cache is. When I found them I made extra notes in case it is dark when I come back, and moved on to here. There is a new seat part way up the ridge, with a great view of another seat across the valley (photos). And at the top - love Rocking Horse Junction! It's a 4 way junction but there is nothing on my map to say where these tracks go. I should come back one day to plot them out and add them to the maps.
Cache is in a bit of a sad state. Could use a refresh - with double containers and florist paper logbook.

Great track! Will be coming back to explore more. Friends at the top made me laugh. Many thanks
(# 6562). A trip up to the hills by Belmont to grab some caches mainly from the top of Hill Road to the bottom via the Speedy's track. Did the return on a nice warm day starting at the top and ending back where I started. Pleased there was a stream right by the end of my trek as I splashed water all over me in order to cool off. It was very refreshing. A quick find. Amazed that a rocking horse was carried to this site. Everything in order. Thanks for bringing me here.
Nice easy find, tried to let it dry a bit while we had a snack. Love the friend at the top
Back to winter it seems and it was a good thing we had donned our boots as there was a lot of mud about on the tracks. However it is a most enjoyable walk up here through the bush and along the cliff faces. Cache was an easy find. TFTC
The high point of todays walk was this junction. The GPS sent me on a bit of a wild goose chase before eventually deciding to lead me back where I started. However approaching from the direction I came this time meant spotting the hiding place more easily. The rocking horse is an odd artefact in itself but who hauled that thing up here and how?! A great location for a cache. TFTC.
My last walk for the day was a foray up Speedy's Reserve. Another place I've never visited before - and to be honest it blew me away! The geography - while on one hand it's very similar to a lot of the terrain around Belmont - is also so steep and canyon-y, and the bush is far more mature than other Belmont bush (just a pity about the infestations of tradescantia lower down and climbing asparagus further up!)
Not far from hairy legs I arrived at this intersection, which I couldn't see until I was there. There was only one decent place for a cache, and that's where it was - a nice easy find. I left it with a bit more covering to hide it from innocent eyes.
And it appears that this place has a new unofficial name - Rocking Horse Hill! (see photo)
Thanks for the cache ZathrasH.

I came out for a walk with my son Tim, and Dexter the Border Collie. We had a great time crossing the stream and slipping/sliding on the downhills in the rain. Not really the best day for it, but at least the rain keeps all the muggles inside!
The cache is in good condition. All nice and dry inside.
Thank you

Nice quick find - note that there is no need to go bush bashing here, as cache is just to the side of the track
You just don't realise what a climb it is until you get to the top and your shirt is literally dripping with sweat - at least that was my experience. Last one of the day for me as the Sawn Off Bridge was a little too far and I'll attempt it another day from the other end. Signed and replaced before heading back out, having a couple of heart-stopping moments along the cliff wall. Certainly not a track to attempt when it's wet as it was still quite slippery in the dry with the leaf litter. An adventurous afternoon indeed. TFTC
I came at this cache from the Hill Road entrance, stopping at the stream to enjoy the 'Sawn off Bridge' cache. The walk up the hill through the bush was enjoyable and the track was dry due to the long spell of warm weather.
New Years eve, and one of my last caches for 2015. My GPS wouldn't behave at the ridgeline so had to assume I was at GZ, and start the search. My initial investigation was centred on the wrong hint item. It was thoroughly pulled apart and I wondered if other cachers had been responsible for this disturbance.
Re-reading the description placed me on the correct side of the intersection and the cache was quickly found. My 300th as it happened. Log in good shape, and dry. Filled out my details and re-stashed the cache in such a way that it wouldn't be muggled but could be found by the next cacher.
I decided to push on to the Majestic Hairy Legs cache down the track. I was unsure of which track to take so settled on the northern fork. This turned out to be the wrong one and, as there were no orange markers I soon decided to retreat and take the downward slope.
TFTC ZathrasH. Very enjoyable. TNLNSL. Cheers!

Wow what a steep up from the Sawn off Bridge cache! No trouble tracking down the cache, thanks!
#594. Sped above and beyond the hairy legs and reached the crossroads. Read the hint and started the search but after feeling around for a while, nothing! What, surely can't be muggled way up here. Read the hint again and a few previous logs. Oh, you are doing it again. Expand your horizons! Another search and this time the cache was quickly in hand. Yes, my first DT 1,3. Signed log and sped off back downhill to the car. TFTC
#6196. Picked a nice sunny day to stop by Major Drive and have a little exploration upstream from Speedys Reserve. Managed to cross the streams without getting the feet wet. A slow and steady walk up to the interesting pa site, and then able to pick up the pace from there. Passed the valley of the majestic hairy legs, and then onward and upward to GZ. Quick find. The cache was in good condition. Wondered where the tracks lead to beyond here. A couple of options may end up coming out on Hill Road, but we decided to return the way we came, saving further exploration for another day.

Left nothing, signed log. Thanks for the cache.

What a magic wee spot, found after completing the other two further down the track. Made the decision to wear my tramping boots, which turned out to be the right one. Dropped off TB, TFTC ZathrasH, #7325
Awesom thanks thought it had gone searched and searched the stump haha only to realise it was a different stump book signed dobby and i off to explore the area some more
All fired up and raring to go after our visit to the Petone event cache we decide upon a small group of caches in the Speedy's Reserve area as the afternoon's targets.
This is an interesting reserve, with some goat-track like trails in places. It pays to watch and concentrate in certain sections. But a great afternoon in some very pleasant native bush surrounds.
This was the third of our finds, having done the pa site and the majestic hairy legs on our way in. We did an about turn at this point and made for Major Drive where the cache mobile was parked. We noted 1.5kms for the one way journey to this one and with stops for the previous two caches we were up here in around 45 minutes. A much faster trip back out to the car.
The cache was a straightforward find, all in order; the log book was signed and , cache then safely re-hidden.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

Melon got to this first ....puff pant. PTS was trying to find out where the tramping track goes whilst I signed the log. TFTC - log amended to note that I'm counting the 'gentle stroll' (yeah right) from near Speedys and back again towards the Ramblers reward challenge.

Was full dark by the time I made it up here, but I still found the cache quite quickly.
Then I had to decide whether to retrace my steps back to the bottom of the hill, or try to work out which path to take to get to Sawn-off Bridge.
Went back down the path a little way to confirm that was the one I had come up.
Turned around and came back to the intersection, but via a different path!
Of the two remaining, one went up-hill and one down-hill, so I was happy to follow the down-hill one to get to the next cache.

Completed after visiting sawn off bridge. The walk along was great fun even if we were breathing hard at times tftc
Cache #952 - second of the day with Downunder Wanderer. Easy find once we got to it. The WAY we got to it, however, made it a 5 start terrain rating.
We came down from Hill Road and did the nearby Sawn Off Bridge cache, with the concept of taking the track down through Speedy and getting the rest of the caches (having parked a second car at the bottom). We DO NOT recommend other try this. The track disappears, and you are wandering down a stream. The other trail you need to be on is way above you on the left. We bush-bashed our way up the hill following a trapper's trail for a while until the pink ribbons disappeared. Nearly an hour later we came across the real trail that all the other caches are on. A lot of hard work, and hours later we are still itching from all the shrubbery bits on us. Certainly makes it memorable though!
A nice place, and worth a favourite simply for the memory of how much effort it took to get here. TFTC!

We carried on to this cache after finding "Sawn off bridge". It was tough going, especially as we had just completed a walk in the Belmont Hills, mighty relieved to reach the top of the ridge and GZ.
Nice easy find, now onto the next cache in the area.

This cache highlights one of my favourite aspects of geocaching. Someone finds a track, checks it out and then encourages the rest of the caching community to visit.
This was an enjoyable after work hike on a track that seems quite different from others in the region.
The cache was nicely hidden and I was able to track it down pretty much straight away. TFTC, ZathrasH.

Second of the Speedy's upper triple today. Headed up from Sawn Off Bridge - this slope has quite a different habitat than the one down from Hill Street! Love the mossy rocks. Took me longer to locate the intersection than the cache itself. TFTC
Some soggy younger members of the EU crew found this with granddad (drawp). Due to the rain they were nicely wet by this stage - which made it all the more adventuresome! TFTC
Arrived at GZ after the rain caught us at the Pa site. A great walk in with the boys this morning as we climbed along the narrow track along the side of the valley. TFTC
Unfortunatly had quite a bad head ach so it was a bit miserable but it was still fun TFTC
Stopped by and checked this between doing Sawn Off Bridge and Majestic Hairy Legs, letting my 2 new TB friends stop by for a visit.
A quick find on on my way back from Sawn off bridge after bypassing it while heading up due to not having the cache loaded into my gps. Thanks for bringing me to this great location. TFTC
Found it with Fozzmeister as we travelled together from "Sawn off Bridge" to "Majestic Hairy Legs". Struggled to keep up with Fozzmeister's cracking up-hill pace, after a couple of weeks of illness, so he had the cache in-hand while i was still catching my breath. GPS co-ords pretty much spot-on with the i-phone today.
On my return trip did a bit of exploring on a couple of the sidetracks, which take you to various viewpoints of the nearby locality.

Also grabbed this one on my walk in this little reserve today, actually the description was the major trigger to come here today (not the possible FTFs). The track is really great, steep sometimes exposed narrow, slippery nice little adventure just few hundred ms from a major highway. Thats what i like about NZ. But i would leave the kids at home and increase Terrain to3.5 to 4. Anyway Fav point for showing me this area. TFTC. Sherlock Hood.
A quick find on my way back from finding the new cache further along the track. An enjoyable if not slippery walk on a track I haven't been on for a few years. SL TFTC
Found while on a mission to put in some caches of our own up here. Great minds think alike.
Looking at the two sets of coords, I wonder whether the CO has simply made a small typo in the South coords, entering .994 instead of .944.
Whoopee (09:00) another joint FTF with agcnz, saw this cache when it was published and was keeping an eye on it as I really didn't have a chance at looking at going for it any earlier and was totally surprised that there wasnt any logs placed on the cache page in the last few days.
Contacted agcnz and asked him if he was interested in looking at going for a walk, having not being on this track before I decided that it might be a great idea that I go and check out this location with another cacher, especially after reading the cache page and soon realising that this cache was going to be in quite an interesting spot and there seemed to be a few area that may be quite a bit interesting to say the least.
The walk up to GZ was quite interesting as there was a couple of area that were quite slippery but in the end it wasnt too hard and after a few slippery spot we finally made our way to the published GZ and soon realised that we were only able to get within 20 metres of GZ and it really didn't make any sense, after a bit of discussion with agcnz we decided that it was time to broaden our search as GZ definitely had nothing that matched the hint. Decided to carry along uphill and make our way up the track and soon made our way to a junction that seemed to fit the hint, after a short search we managed to track down the cache in the most obvious spot.
What a cool spot for a cache, really wwasnt quite sure why the co-ordinates were so far out about 93 metres after comparing the co-ordinates with agcnz we decided that it would be a great idea that we posted the new co-ords since this was a trad. Opening the cache and finding that we had a blank logbook which was a great bonus and agcnz decided to recue the trackable as we really didnt want it to be stranded too long. Thanks for placing the cache here and for bringing us to this lovely spot really enjoyed the walk and now to slip and slide our way back down the hill, must come back here and explore a bit more as i think that there definitely will be some more caches that will appear here in the near future as it is such a nice bush walk, TFTC TNLNSL (4616) Yeetrees FTF Craze also decided to come along for a visit as well.

Given the distance this cache appears to be from it's correct coordinates, I'll disable it until the owner can get back to the spot and verify the coordinates with a GPS unit.

Joint FTF with Yeetrees at 09:00 I have been watching this one going unfound day after day and as today was a free day for me and the weather was perfect, Yeetrees and I decided to give it a go. Met up at the bottom of Major Drive and we set off together. No problems with the stream crossings, the first had plenty of stepping stones and with the second my waterproof boots ensured that I kept dry feet. The track was very well marked, narrow at times but easy walking until we came to the steep bits towards the end, these were pretty slippery at this time of year. Needed to make plenty of use of trees as handholds. Got close to the listed coordinates in half an hour but no sign of anything that resembled where the cache should be and both our GPSrs were pointing us about 50 metres off the track into bush downhill towards the river. After a quick look around we decided that there wasn't going to be any cache around here so we kept going up the marked track and when we reached the top of the ridge there was the 4-way junction. The cache was a quick find using the hint, over 93 metres due north from the listed coordinates. I have included a new averaged coordinate set, both Yeetrees and I took independent readings which were within a couple of metres of one another. So hopefully these will lead future hunters directly to the right spot. Really enjoyed the walk, I didn't know that there was native forest of this quality up here. Must come back some time and see where the tracks lead to, it's quite possible there may be shorter ways to get to the cache. Took TB, signed log, TFTC and it gets a favourite point.
#4021. I was all ready to depart to see if the FTF was up for grabs, when I got the email with agcnz's log. Decided to go any way (at least I had the right coords now!), and really enjoyed the track. The first part is relatively flat, but a lot of the way you are on a narrow ledge with a decent drop below (a head for heights helps). The second part is treacherous in places; skid marks no doubt left by agcnz and yeetrees helped highlight some of the nastier spots. Cache was a quick find at the agcnz coords. Made good time, and was back at the car about an hour and a quarter after setting off. Thanks for putting a cache here; it's a great area to explore.
When setting this, I dropped off a Knit-Wit trackable that's been bouncing around NZ and Oz while heading back to Minnesota - hopefully the FTF will help it along its way.
