I had a quick nosey down this road today, but decided not to make a day of getting all of them. Instead, just the first three and I will be back in summer, I hope.A quick find here today, no issues with the cache. TFTC 360 degrees.
Well we checked under rocks and didn't find a tube we did find a sardine tin tho well hidden under a rock so assuming that wasn't it
You do wonder how some places were named. Another cache and we are on our way. TFTC
Today was Bumblebees day to clear the Rainbow road as far as the old hut. This is an area we call Dippus Flattus because of the camp near the river. I have crawled through a bit of this area in the early 90's. Easy find here before heading up towards the ski-field. Can't believe how busy this road is. At least another half a dozen 4wds passed by while I was stopped. Added some RITR paper for the mushy stuff.
It had been snowing overnight so went for a drive to the ski field but the gates were locked... so I grabbed a few caches instead. This was a nice quick find, TFTC!
My phone gave me the wrong derections finally paddle chick pointed me to the right area got it .Tftc 360 Degrees NZ
Found with Kiwimykl on a drive through the Rainbow, refer to his log for details.

Found with NZDi near the start of our drive through the Rainbow to Hanmer Springs. We have had the two days between Waitangi Day and the weekend booked as leave since the end of last year with no real plan to do anything, but a week ago I checked the bookings for the company holiday home in Hammer Springs and saw it was free today and tomorrow. After a quick word with NZDi, it was booked and I began researching a geocaching trip. In a moment of inspiration I thought about going through the Rainbow Road to give NZDi's new geomobile a real test. Although all the warnings say you need a high ground clearance 4WD and the Sportage is a bit of a soft roader, I still thought it would have the goods to do the job, and it did although I had to use 4WD on one occasion for 50m.
As we didn't know how long caching would hold us up on the trip, we considered bypassing the caches up to six mile stream as we could come back and do them any time. In the end we decided to do them all and we still arrived in Hanmer Springs before we were allowed to check in.
Our third find of the day on our trip through the Rainbow to Habmer Springs.
Found as per the hint.

This was a quick find with the hint. Great to cache to the rainbow road. Find #490.
Out and about exploring with Hubby and a wee picnic for lunch. Over ran this a few meters so I had to run back. TFTC 360 degrees NZ
Heading out with a couple of our grandkids, hoping we might find enough snow for a snow ball fight. Not sure how that will turn out with it being two onto one.
It was nice to come up the valley again, the last time we came through here we were on our bikes heading for Hanmer, so much easier in the car with the heater on.
Thanks for the cache and the motivation to revisit this valley. Made a nice quick find here.

Toby, The Seagnoid and I are off on another adventure - Wairau, Rainbow Station to Hanmer Springs and back. Its been on my bucket list for ages and today is the day!! Woke at 5am to rain so we delayed for a couple of hours and decided to go, go. Should be a breeze - but I forgot geocaching gets you no where fast - so this became an extremely long day. We left St Arnaud at 9.30 and home after midnight!! But still loved it.
No I see no Chinamen today. But snagged and tagged the cache with no problems. Cheers

No chinamen or China women for that matter. I replaced the saturated log and added a new bag for it. Old log still in cache. Tftc
No Chinamen or anyone around. Just some freshly sheared sheep and a nice tailwind.
Great day for a drive up this valley today. Its been ages since we last came up on a caching mission. Only people we saw the whole day were three cyclists but we did see the sign and the cache. TFTC #9815
With a ridiculously jumpy GPS that made it impossible to know where to stop and find any previous caches, this was our first find on this road on the way home after a day at Rainbow. The GPS wasn't needed for this one TFTC!
Chinaman Gully. - - - The name suggests gold was found in these parts and in fact according to Jeff Newport in "Footprints Farewell" it was first discovered here in 1868 and worked by different people, including some Chinese nationals over a number of years. Thanks for placing a cache here - - - and to GH6710 for maintaining it.
I can say yes I saw a Chinaman, albeit only a 1/16th one that I took with me. While signing the log I momentarily got distracted by the sheep and watching them nipping through a hole in the fence. They all knew where the hole was and one by one the snuck through.
I dropped off a replacement cache here last year, nice to see it's still safe and sound. Replaced the plastic bag today. TFTC
corrected date found, 17 Jan 16. Logging now that I am home.

I refilled water here. Not in the cache

Sorry for logging late...
This cache was visited by me either during the one month (February 2015) of hiking/tramping in NZ together with Bärgegumperli or in March/April 2015 while on a bicycle trip across NZ and AUS.
We/I enjoyed geocaching a lot.
Hiking
Hikes:
- Abel Tasman NP: Motueka, Kaiteriteri, Marahau, Inland Track, Separation Point, Coastal Track, Marahau.
- Nelson Lakes NP: St. Arnaud, Hopeless Hut, Travers Saddle, Blue Lake, Waiau Pass, Thompson Pass, D'Urville Valley, Lake Angelus, St. Arnaud.
- Arthur's Pass NP: Mt Brown Hut, Styx Valley, Browning Pass, Whitehorn Pass, Waimakariri Valley, Jordan Saddle, Hut Spur, Arthur's Pass, Mt Aicken
- Bridle Path
The weather conditions were great for tramping almost every single day. We enjoyed the beautiful landscape, the peace in some very remote areas and the many friendly people we met on our way or in the different huts.
Cycling from Dunedin to Auckland
It is not my first tour with this bicycle (map with long loading time).
Places along the route: Dunedin, Otago Central Rail Trail, East Manuherikia track, Tekapo, Fairlie, Geraldine, Oxford, Waipara, Hanmer Springs, Jacks Pass, Island Saddle, Picton, Wellington, Homedale, Hutt River Trail, Masterton, Pongaroa, road near Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu, Waipukurau, Fernhill, Taupo, Whakamaru, Tirau, Hauraki Rail Trail, Kawakawa Bay, Aukland.
After one month of perfect weather (see above) I finally got what I had to expect: Some rain... And sometimes stron headwinds. That the route was not flat at all meant usually that the landscape is great .
*
Cycling from Melbourne to Darwin
Places along the route: Melbourne, Great Ocean Road, Penshurst, Edenhope, Jervois Ferry, Sedan, Tanunda, Crystal Brook, Port Augusta, Coober Pedy, Uluru/Ayers Rock, The Olgas/Kata Tjuta, Mereenie Loop, Alice Springs, Karlu Karlu/Devil's Marbles, Litchfield NP, Mandorah, Darwin.
Along the coast the weather was often wet and cold. The small roads in Victoria and South Australia were very pleasant to ride despite a lot of headwind. This changed as soon as I reached the Stuart Hwy to sometimes strong tailwinds. That's why I had some "spare" time to ride a loop in the Red Centre. Further north
As in NZ i met some awesome people.

Guess what I did while waiting for a connecting plane in Perth?
Greetings from Switzerland / Gruess us dr Schwiiz
*There are a lot(!) of caches which I did not search while on the bicycle trip. The reasons are mainly:
1. Stopping slows if one wants to get somewhere, especially on bridges where no one wants to slow down a fully loaded touring bike. Yes, there were quite a few days with >200 km on the pushbike...
2. Riding or resting next to a loaded (recumbent) bike attracts in some areas so much attention that stealth mode is not possible.
3. On rare occasions I rode during the night. If I had to do that there was no time to search for caches anyway [:-(]
4. Some places I did really not consider worth stopping for a cache... Sorry.
Thanks for showing me this location and the cache!

Passing through on my bike riding the Rainbow and Molesworth Station Roads. Lucky me!!! I saw a Chinaman today. TFTC.
Enabled and running thanks to G6710, who kindly replaced this cache when I couldn't get to it.
With a recent string of DNF's we were not hopeful of finding this one. Found the obvious area it should be at so left a new container and logbook. Hopefully the CO is ok with this as it's now up and running again.

Here with capperz on the way back from Nelson and the Pi Day event there. We stopped to pick off the last few here. I am sure I had found this, and yes, there is my name in the log from the last time I was here, when GH6710 replaced it. So I am backdating this log to then. Which reminds me - CO - you can remove the needs maintenance attribute.

A weekend trip up to the Nelson Lakes with G H 6 7 1 0 and the Seagnoid was planned with a couple of days of the weekend in one of the work baches not far off the lake side in Rotoiti/ St Arnaud. Targets were set; get the Seagnoid past 4000 caches, get more than 50 a day for G H 7 6 1 0, and get me past 3200 cache finds. Also in target was some tramping, some boat caching (grabbing whilst moored as close as safely possible to G Z) some 4 W Driving and some basic park and grabs. We also wanted to get all of the puzzle/unknown caches in St Arnaud as well as 100% of the multi caches in St Arnaud (cache Tectonics!). There was driving, boating, walking, rain, mist, sun, ducklings, eels and trout, sandflies (of course), beech trees and great views. Fun and sweat (no tears), a wasp sting and over 100 caches found for me. We all surpassed our targets and at the end of 2 full on days we returned to a cooler Blenheim than when we left tired out.
Last time here there was no cache to be found. I see it's been disabled but we replaced the missing cache in exactly the same spot so that it can live again, and on.
Still couldn't see any Chinamen today

OK, I will probably be able to check this in late December/early January. But, as for now, this cache is disabled.
i think cache has gone, lifted and turned every rock and stone around a couple of meters from eastern post but couldnt find. thanks
TFTC. I am attempting to cache for 100 days in a row while also managing 250 caches per month total in my stats. So far I am at 36/100 and 171/250 for this month. Time will tell!!
I recently drove the Molesworth Rd and was delighted to discover this road today. I will go as far as my caching info allows and investigate this road further once I am home.
Really nice location for a cache placement. I can't help wondering what gave this spot its name.
Thanks 360 Degrees NZ for placing the cache.

The chinamen had either left or not arrived...but the cache was still there. Thanks
Quick find. Cache uncovered so re hid it again. We went right thru to Hamner springs by 4wd. Beautiful country.
Spent the day in the Rainbow Valley...proved a real treat...sealed road to the ski field turn off, lovely scenery AND caches along the route. Liked the names of all the creeks. Walked 3 km up the ski field road and returned to find the army had arrived...by helicopter? TFTC
I'm sure I spotted one here and I also saw a cache. Thanks 360 Degrees NZ for placing it.

Moving along the early part of the Rainbow road in the early afternoon (I try not to get distracted too early in the day, but it never works); 619m above sea-level for little effort at all.

A quick find on a drive from Nelson Lakes via the Rainbow route to Hanmer today. Love this country! Signed log, TFTC
We had to come to Tophouse this morning so decided to continue on up this road to find the caches up here. We called this our 'lucky cache" because for some reason it missed being put in the GPS and it was only when we saw the sign with the name on it we thought uh oh, why isn't it shown as next nearest on the GPS. However, we decided to look in all the possible places for a hide and soon had the cache in hand and signed. TFTC.
An opportunistic tidy up trip today. We knew it would be a good one judging by the magnificent rainbow low over the horizon against a clear blue sky. We've never seen that before. When loading caches this one did not "take" somehow. The 'Chinamen Creek' sign reminded us but with no info and no mobile reception we decided to hunt anyway. We cast a broad net and after a short search Holymu spoke those famous words. TFTC
Detour up the valley to find a few stray caches but the rain continues to follow us and it's 14 deg at 4pm .
Cache soon located and added a plastic bag to keep the log dry TFTC.

Some interesting names in the area but this one was a tad more unusual, nicely done.

On our first pass, saw no Chinamen, but did see a vehicle near GZ. Carried on for a couple of km but then turned back after a couple more fords as we got to one that was just a bit too high for us today. Back to this area and the other vehicle had gone. No problem then to see the cache. And sign the log. Thanks.
No oriental gentlemen spotted today. However, I did spot a cache. Nice one! Finally managed to make the effort to get out here to fix up one of my own caches too. TFTC, Biggles.
Planned to head to Six Mile, glad I checked web site first. Good cache thanks.
