29-Jul-24
Alas, muggled again!Have placed a new container.

03-Jul-24
Today I tried to find your cache RESISTANT GORGE ROCKSI spent a good 20 minutes uninterrupted searching and found nothing. Considering the number of DNFs before and after the move and also the amount of deadfall in the area, maybe another spot should be found?

21-Jun-24
No luck. Ran out of light (shortest day of the year) also kids calling me so could not do a through search

20-May-24

During our beautiful two-month trip through New Zealand and Australia, we arrived in Tasmania by night ferry. We pick up our rental car and drive to Launceston. We arrive early and still have plenty of time to explore Launceston's Cataract Gorge. This cache was not found during our walk through the gorge.**thomarter**, thanks for the cache.

29-Mar-24
We are currently on a eight week holiday which is mostly spent in New Zealand and Australia. However, the first three days were spent in Singapore as a nice break from an otherwise long flight. We had about three weeks in New Zealand which went by too quickly. The remaining five weeks are spent in Australia. Last night we had the ferry to Tasmania from Geelong. Picked up our rental near the ferry and drove to Launceton where we will be staying for one night. We arrived very early. Luckily our room was already available. After settling in we went to explore Launceton and the surrounding area. We had a nice walk in and around the Cataract Gorge. We also visited this cache unfortunately we were not able to find it. Instead we did enjoy the excellent view.

30-Jan-24
While visiting Cataract Gorge, I collected the nearby caches.Lots of places around the GZ satisfied the hint condition. Yet after searching all rock crevices around the GZ, no cache was found.

30-Jan-24
No luck with this one after a good look around.

11-Nov-23
No find for us here today, looked in the spot in the photos and so many other spots that matched the hint but no dice.

09-Oct-23
Looked high and low for this one for about 20mins but could not find it. What a great spot though and fantastic views.

25-Sep-23
Could have been anywhere up here. TFTC

18-Jul-23
Gave a good look but there was a bunch of smashed glass pieces and some discarded shorts - there are so many rocks and cracks and the sun is setting Sad maybe next time

01-Jul-23
Found but not in the exact location. Nice views.

16-May-23
We felt like little mountain goats following the little tracks up to this cache then clambering over the rocks to eventually find this cache.
We are on an adventure discovering the gorge today

TFTC thomarter
Keep smiling

01-Apr-23
What an amazing place on a delightful day

19-Mar-23
While exploring the area around Cataract Gorge today we found this cache.
We found our way there following a track the GPS had on it. Once near GZ we were amazed at the views.
It's a totally different perspective. I reckon not too many people would come up which is a shame.
The cache was easily found and all was good with it.

What a lovely view from this cache. Found with Firstfox and this one was his 500th cache and a beautiful spot to reach such a milestone. TFTC

03-Jan-23
Found with aspitbiker and FF. Nice walk and a great cache for #500. Took a little bit of looking but we eventually found it. TFTC.

07-Dec-22
I really wanted to find this one. I found several locations I thought it could have been but unfortunately, it was a DNF.

29-Oct-22
Off on more adventures, this time around North East Tasmania.

Day 1 started In Launceston with a visit to the harvest market and some Gin sampling, followed by a walk around city park.
A couple of caches in here as well as the monkey enclosure.. definitely do the Augmented reality cache.
Then it was a walk around the city and onto Cataract Gorge..lots of caches around here.
In the afternoon was a tour of Boags Brewery and then a few craft beers at Saint Johns bar...
Lots of caches collected today

a bit of a climb along a winding path but cache was located fairly easily.. i took the trackable and will move it along.

Thanks for the cache and the hide

13-Feb-22
Getting away for a mountain biking trip with friends, we had planned on a holiday to Derby during 8-13/02/2022. For the most part, we spent our days MTB-ing Blue Derby (Black Stumps) trails, as well as riding Blue Tier Forest Reserve's trails, such as the upper section of Bay of Fires, Blue Tier and Atlas. There was an opportunity to find a few geocaches in Launceston before driving to Derby, and on our final day with our flight departure in the evening, we travelled back via Scottsdale and Lilydale, and visited a few spots around Launceston such as Cataract Gorge and Trevallyn Dam.

Today, with the majority of the group departing quite early back to Adelaide, it allowed a full day of heading back and checking out Launceston with our evening departure. We checked out Legerwood's awesome timber sculptures, before proceeding around Scottsdale and checking out a Bridestowe Lavender Estate. Other highlights including Tunnel's railway tunnel, and Lilydale waterfalls. After enjoying a Launceston bakery lunch, we then visited Cataract Gorge for a few hours (whilst completing *Launceston Cataract Gorge* Adventure Lab), walking along the gorge, and then proceeded to the lookout at Trevallyn Dam. Our final drive then took us to northern Launceston in Invermay, before checking out the City Park. A terrific day checking out this quiet Tasmanian city.

This was an interesting adventure in making my way to GZ. I followed an informal track (or track as mapped in my geocaching app), but thinking it was only one way, I went off track to head into a dead-end, which made me turn back and resume the track. I ascended upwards to this remarkable geological outcrop! When I was close enough to where I needed to search, I began searching the boulders, but unfortunately no cache was forthcoming, so I decided to make my way to the end of the track to the lookout, which would allow me a chance to rest and step back. As it turned out, I was searching the wrong side of the outcrop, and thus the cache was then a reasonably quick find. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks thomarter for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

The floods have receeded. The blue pool is currently the brown pool. Found the unmarked trail to this lookout and started looking. The cache was found in the last place we looked, which as usual was not the first place we looked. Thanks for placing a fun cache guys. We do love your work. We signed the logbook. Of course we did that is way we play this game. Cache in pretty good condition for the cache age.

This particular geocache was found using one of the following GPS enabled devices, Garmin GPSr, Montana 680t, Oregon 650 or Dakota 20 and a Samsung S8. Waypoints and paperless geocaching were downloaded via GSAK 9. Log prepared, checked and submitted using GSAK publish logs...

Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun.

Ever since I came to Launceston I have been repeatedly asked if I’ve visited the gorge yet. Today was the day and I’m sure it will be the first of many many trips. Waiting for some muggles for a rock climbing adventure this arvo. Decided to duck here first. Great spot. Took a while to find the track and was like a maze to get here. Easy find. Thanks

02-Feb-21
Fantastic walk and view, I’m surprised there are not more geocaches around here. But 2nd cache for the day of travelling from Launceston to Hobart. TFTC TNLN SL .

Great lil hike to these cool rocks. Goid views. Cache was wet inside. Log book also damp. TNLN, SL & TFTC.

16-Jan-21
The log was a bit damp but not disastrously so, I could still write in it. I think if you left it out in the sun to dry off for a while it’d pretty much be good as new without it having to be replaced. TFTC

Nice climb up to this spot - and great views. The log wasn't in the cache - suspect someone left it out to dry out. It was raining so I placed it back in the cache but not in the plastic bag. TFTC

30-Jul-20
I attempted this cache a few months ago but my phone was sending me in all directions. Today my Garmin Etrex led me straight to the cache. I have never been to this part of the reserve before so thank you for placing the cache.

Before lunch we walked to the power station and now we are tackling the zig zag trail. This cache was a small diversion but we had to do some zig zagging for this one too.

From 23.09 until 24.11.2019 Stadibast and I spent our holidays in Australia.
During the first four weeks we drove with a camper van from Darwin to Perth along the West coast and its amazing national parks, in which we made several hiking tours.
After that we flew to the wonderful green Tasmania for a roundtrip lasting two weeks.
For the last three weeks we went back to the continent and followed the South-East-Coast from Melbourne to Sydney.
We had impressive nine weeks in Australia, in which we hiked through various national parks, visited interesting sights and met many friendly and helpful people.
Thanks to all owners for setting and maintaining their caches.

Excellent hide and a beautiful walk, I have been here a thousand times and had never noticed the track or been to this part Smile thankyou

22-Sep-19
What a wonderfully tucked away location, with a trail that we hadn't noticed on our previous walks. This is a gem of a location, with such a great view. We even spotted some kayaks making their way down among the rapids. The coordinates were spot on and we quickly had the container in our hands to sign.
Thanks to thomarter for placing this cache.

Tassie Trip Day 197 - Today was just a tourist day with a visit to the gorge and collected a couple of caches as one was needed and a couple were in that area, This is such a lovely side of the gorge and a great place to spend a few hours.

This was a great place to view the gorge from and a good spot for some pictures however after searching for 40 mins and looking in various logs it was a big dissapointment for me today with it being a DNF so thanks thomarter for this wonderful place to visit.

28-Mar-19
Replaced cracked lid.

19-Mar-19
On our tour around Tassie we made here a quick stop.
After a while looking we can find the cache.
A beautiful area. But Terrain 1.5 is too less!!
Thank you and greetings from Germany send Moorhelmi

13-Feb-19
This took a while to find. I kept looking in all the cracks around but came up empty handed back to reading past logs. One stood out and an image that helped. The cache lid is cracked but is all good.

A nice walk up to the gorge this afternoon. Collecting 3 caches that i have left in the area.

I am currently writing detailed logs because of a challenge provided by Project-GC. "The Author" Badge challenges geocachers to average one hundred words or more in each log. Given that I have found so many GC caches, I have to write many logs with well over 100 words for a long period of time to get my average to the target. Apologies to anyone who finds the logs tedious but it is the only way that I can strive to attain this challenge. After over 5000 plus caches (which includes all cache finds up and including yesterday), the average log length is just over 70 words. I am now entertaining the possibility that I might be able to achieve my task before the end of next year. It's surprising how much is has increase since doing this.

Camped at Launceston, out around town today for a few caches. Quick find, good coordinates. Cache all good. Trying to find the start of the track was the hardest thing about the cache. Track starts up hill from the 1st basin. Track on the left when the GPS shows 75 meters from the cache. TFTC

Day 2 of our Launceston trip has us making an early start. Our first stop is Cataract Gorge. We take the easy way there.

I kept missing the trail and was on the verge of giving up when Mrs frilk found it. I made a solo trek to the summit where someone had put together a lovely rock feature. A quick find. TNLN. TFTC.

Hello thomarter thank you for the cache.

Out and about caching with EeePees in the Launceston area while JunEeePees was at training.
EeePees found this one while I was looking on the wrong side of the rocks. Of course we took the hard way up after walking past the right track.

Despite spending many summers in the Gorge and Basin grounds, I've never been to this section before, so thanks thomarter for placing this cache here. A nice quick fi nd after an unnecessary struggle to get here. As can sometimes be the case, the 'right' track is not found until leaving GZ! Ah, that makes it easier!

#1059 @ 1325hrs Sunday 26th August 2018

Up from Hobart on a caching plunder with AlbyDangles, after dropping off a couple jnr Refs at training this morning.
Parked above the Gorge Tea Rooms, walked down to Kings Bridge, and back via the ZigZag Track and Suspension Bridge, with a few deviations and side trips along the way.
Plenty here to keep us occupied until we had to collect the jnr Refs later this afternoon.1525
