After the old cache, was logged we continued our tour around salt lake.Nice found also this one. Thanks!
In New Zealand we are now driving over the mountains to our next destination. Here we enjoy the landscape. On the way we stop for a good view or for a cache. Many thanks to all owners and greetings from the Moorhelmi from Germany
Das hat richtig Spa gemacht hier am Sutton Salt Lake!_____________________________________________________What a great landscape here at Sutton Salt Lake! Actually, the oldie Sutton Salt Lake from the year 2000 had lured me here in the middle of nowhere. But once I had reached and found the oldie, I was tempted by the marvellous landscape to go for a walk around the lake. It was great fun and even took me past a few more caches. Many thanks for sweetening this hike. It was great fun here at Sutton Salt Lake!
A quick find and replace here with Gazania Rigens and Wombatwandering as per their logs. Very much enjoying our walk through this mysterious landscape.TFTC
Having had a busy geocaching weekend in Dunedin, at the MEGA, matagouri and I are now continuing on with our holiday 'road trip'.On our way to Sutton salt lake, for the last of my targeted 'oldie' caches, and what a beautiful day for a walk!A quick find after disturbing a gecko and a skink from their sunny spots. Thanks for putting this here
We were very impressed with the Sutton Schist. It often looked a bit like petrified wood. Thanks for hiding! Found with Gazania Rigens and Zouavesauvage.
One last find on our walk. I think it's time to pick up the speed back to the car the dark clouds on the hills are getting closer. Thanks for bringing us out here.Kev the Orienteer#17434
That's it, completed the walk around Sutton Lake. Maybe it has connections with landscape artist Bill Sutton, maybe not. By for now. Happy caching.
It's a lovely walk here around the lake. It's a bit boggy at the moment, but there's no sticky mud and the shoes remained clean. A quick find here and all is well with the cache. TFTC!
We came to find the nearby oldie and decided to walk the loop and found some bonus caches along the way this being one of them. We found a good spot for a cache but it was empty so checked behind us and there was the cache. Thank you.
CaptainVimes and I have crossed the ditch to attend the Geo Toroa mega in Dunedin and tour around the South Island for two weeks.Found the decoy on the other side first but then quickly located it.Thanks Kev the Orienteer and happy caching
Trolls - Big, rocky, and about as sharp as a blunt spoon. Not that theyre all bad, mind you. Detritus is technically a troll, and hes a good copper when his brain's not overheating. But as a general rule, trolls are like walking boulders with a knack for knocking things down, either because theyre angry or because they forgot things can actually break.
Down from Whangarei to attend the GeoToroa Mega and the most important cache on my to do list was the old one nearby, as it would complete my NZ Jasmer and Ausmer grids .... ????The weather was decidedly damp and cold yesterday and again this morning, but a look at the weather map, suggested a drive NW from Dunedin might get us into some better conditions. And so it turned out - just light occasional drizzle and 9 degrees, which was better than the rain and 7 degrees in Dunners. After success on the oldie, carried on a bit to this one which was a nice quick find. TFTC
Two weeks holiday in New Zealand with laalaa. Now going round Lake Sutton in wet and cold conditions Awesome round. Thanks for the cache.
Stopped to get the golden oldie but thought a walk around this marvellous landscape would be enjoyable and it definitely was the caches were a bonus.
Walking around the lake we found this one. It was not as high up as we had imagined - thankfully as climbing on schist is not my preferred activity. Thanks to Kev the Orienteer for placing this cache.
Day 1 of my 6 day trip to Dunedin to attend the Mega and clean up all the puzzle caches solved over the last few years. Todays journey took us from the airport via some of the new DT 81 puzzles to Middlemarch and then back to Dunedin. All caches done today were with Bruzie. Apologies for the generic logs. Thanks for all the puzzles, caches, find, frustration and enjoyment. Found this one in a hole. It was very windy and we weren't sure if we should do the walk or not, but very glad we did the whole circuit..
This is day one of my Dunedin Mega trip, the first time I've ever been here before (never mind geocaching). Obviously with such a plethora of caches to find there's going to be plenty I'll skip but I hope to find my targets. Unfortunately logging is going to be generic, but thank you to all the cache owners and event organisers for the things you do.Just like it said on the tin.All good here, and thank you to Kev the Orienteer for the placement of your Traditional Cache.Find #7191 at 24 October 2024 2:10pm
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I live full-time in our caravan travelling around NZ, visiting the places we want to visit & doing the things we want to do and fitting in a bit of Geocaching here & there we are/were staying near Ranfurly in Central Otago for a couple of days today we decided to drive through to Middlemarch & clean up some caches on the way, with the main focus being the The Sutton Salt Marsh area we had done a couple of caches in Middlemarch but decided to head out to The Sutton Salt Marsh to get those done parked up on the roadside verge, as there were sheep in the paddock & we didnt want to disturb them, & wandered in we were following the Loop Track round the lake picking up the various caches as we went followed the GPS which took us, more or less, right to the cache turned out to be an easy find, logbook signed & safely/securely replaced in position were also pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally TFTC ... On our eighteenth day in New Zealand we drive from Queenstown to Dunedin. This beautiful cache was on our way.TFTCHennesAt the end comes the poem of the day.New Zealand By James K. Came out here today from our camping spot in Dunedin. Nice easy hike here with nice wide open views. Took a bit to find, but got it. Thanks!
Having walked past this one on the walk round the lake we started a second lap to get this one, this time found by misteree. We didn't complete a second lap, backtracked to the carThank you for placing in such a great place
Found with Spoonz2 on a walk around the lake. So glad we made the effort to see this part of New Zealand.
Today I left Dunedin for a trip inland to Sutton Salt Lake, where there is an old cache from December 2000. And you can't deny that. After all, it was probably my easiest hunt for an old cache ever. The walk along the circuit in the nature reserve was beautiful, but it was quite hot 31C and the sun was strong. But I was all alone and felt like Frodo Baggins from The Lord of the Rings. The landscape is beautiful and I really enjoyed the trip. Thanks for the cache and greetings from Czech republic.
# #7,058 #----------A long walk back to the car park from here but firstly, one more geocache to find. This one took the longest as it was higher than I expected it to be. No problems with the logbook or anything here though. These types of containers are great! TFTC!!! ----------> All geocaches are signed as mmmPIZZA or mPZ

Cache 1606?? Decided after visiting Dunedin to head over towards Sutton/Middlemarch to grab another of the south islands oldest caches. Ive never been here before so as I approached the Sutton Lake Reserve I was amazed by the other worldly look of the area so cool, I wasnt going to go for any of the other caches around the lake but I was having car trouble and had to wait for the engine to cool so I could check it out so I took the opportunity to gobble up these caches ??T4TC ????
On our trip thru New Zealand we stopped to see all the nice nature New Zealand is offering us.When possible we also search for geocaches, this was one of them.Nice place, thanks for placing the geocache, greetings from team Camperfietser
Together with Travelser I'm going Down Under. We are driving around with a motorhome. After 7 weeks driving around through Australia we arrived the 2th November in New Zealand. For ten days we will cross the Northern Island and than for 2 weeks the Southern Island.During our trip we of course search for several caches. Most of them brought us to very nice spots, like this one.All the CO's, and in this case Kev the Orienteer, thanks for bringing us here and give our trip a special accent.
After traveling around Australia with Oopie for 7 weeks, we have now been traveling with the camper in New Zealand for 4 weeks. Along the way we will of course also visit various types of caches in beautiful places, including this one. Thanks CO for creating and laying this cache.
Found while out with Wednesday Walkers. Some searching and discussion about high to look soon revealed the container, duly signed and on to the next one.TNLN. TFTC.
Out with the walking group on a beautiful day. This was the first find of the day after a brief discussion of how far above GL it was.
Out and about on day 7 of my South Island Tour and day 1 of "Wellingtonions Gone South: Dunedin Edition" with NZ_B, TwigNZ, Mr-Mcgoo, Itchyfeet2020 and matagouri. The target of this day was mainly Sutton Lake and some other oldies. All logs signed as MINT. TFTC
(# 8261) The Wellington crew are on another mission. Included are Itchyfeet2020, NZ_B, TwigNZ, Matagouri and TaybeeNZ. As usual quite a bit of hilarity. Day 1 was more of a travel around where we went to Sutton Lake then up to Seacliff. A nice wander around the area. Signed as MINT.Thanks Kev the Orienteer for bringing me here.
A great place to walk around. Love the twinkling in the stone and the scenery. I must look for geological information about the area.Day 1 of The Wellingtonians are in Dunedin tour with TwigNZ, Mr-Mcgoo, Itchyfeet2020 and matagouri, as well as TaybeeNZ who decided to have a few days of his South Island tour with us. We are targeting specific caches -oldies, wherigos (thanks to the Seagnoids new caches on the Wainuiomata Hill road in Lower Hutt), a certain jet and hopefully a certain bird. Of course, there will be days of laughter, no doubt at my expense During our time here, all found caches were signed as MINT, regardless of whether 2, 3 or all 5 of us hadn't found it previously, or with individual names for Challenge Caches according to whomever was claiming the find.Kia ora rawa atu for the cache Kev the Orienteer.
Day 1 of our Dunedin Adventure. Six welly cachers have arrived with lots of plans and caches to find. Watch out Dunedin! Today we have ventured out here for the oldie on a gorgeous day and had time to visit this one. Of course I looked in the harder spot before the easier one presented itself. TFTC. All logs signed as MINT.
A group of friends have traveled together to Dunedin to collectively target a whole bunch of caches, primarily because of their value in terms of Jasmer Grid filling, or for certain Challenge Caches that we have elected to try to achieve.M.M.I.N.T.T are Mr-Mcgoo, matagouri, Itchyfeet2020, NZ_B, taybee nz and TwigNZ. Some logs were signed this way, some were signed as M.I.N.T for expediency, and some were signed with individual names.Today the big target was getting up to visit Sutton Salt Lake, which is something we have all wanted to do for a long time. We all knew the significance of being here, and were happy to be blessed with a fantastic day on which to come. Having found GC153, we carried on to make further finds including this one. Itchy made the find here, and soon added our team name to the log. Thank you for placing this cache for all to find.
A visit to Dunedin by Wellington geocachers NZ_B, Itchyfeet2020, TwigNZ, Mr-Mcgoo, Taybeen NZ, and myself. Signing as Team MINT, targeting old caches, Wherigos, and whatever else we can find.Having found GC153, we decided to push on for a couple more. This was the first that we came across. Some in the party were searching too high before the find was made. All good inside. Tftc!
Thanks for another quick find. We too are orienteers. Although we would have still come out here, it is a bonus to have some caches along the way.
A southern adventure for a wee family Easter school holiday trip. After a few days in Dunedin we were now heading up to Naseby for a couple days...and hopefully some fine weather!
Coming this way to Naseby it'd be rude not to stop at one of the oldest caches in NZ, and do a bit of a walk. Rain held off and a lovely walk....Quick find and sign here. Thanks.

So I did.

Toughest of the day for us. Past logs helped in narrowing down the search area. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this interesting area. TFTC
This one took a bit of searching, but we got there in the end. Fabulous spot on a lovely day. TFTC
On a tour of the area getting some caches for a challenge. All good with the cache . Thanks
Spent ages looking last time, finally posting dnf. This time looked in Same place and there it was. Funny that.
Day two of my road trip through Southland. Today's journey takes me from Invercargill back to Mosgiel. Old School Challenge caches are the focus of the trip. I arrived at the carpark just after 4 pm, there was hardly a breath of wind and it was quite mild. After finding GC153, I then continued around the loop. What a special place, I enjoyed the majestic scenery and the solitude of my own company. A quick find once I got to the right altitude. TFTC
A nice quick find as we make our way around the salt lake ticking off some caches. TFTC
Needed a second look at the hidey hole. Nice that it wasn't around our past the nasty prickly stuff. TFTC
Nice quick and easy find, I love the look of this Schist up close!
Thanks for the first of a few!
Cache all good!

Yes up you go..No not too bad as the ground levels out at the rear end for easy access found all goodthanks K the O.
After catching up with an ex neighbour now living in Naseby, we set off here to check out the salt lake. Getting the correct approach here was the answer to finding the cache. A bit of a balancing act with the wind and on hand holding on. Thanks for the placement Kev the Orienteer.
Day #5 of my Geotour.
Dunedin to Geraldine with a slight detour!
Fresh snow overnight made for a stunning drive here from Outram and yet not even a frost on this side of the ranges. I came here to collect the nearby "old" cache and continued on to make this find. A tricky wee hide.

I decided to walk around the Sutton Salt Lake. What a magical location.
Thanks for placing the cache.

Thanks for placing the cache.
Had to reach round for this one. Nicely hidden. My second visit to this lake - on the first visit there was plenty of water, but this time there was scarcely any water and we were able to walk across the entire length of the lake, as it was dried to a crust. TFTC.
Living in Motueka we are used to schist in our area but was interesting looking at all of the rock formations around us - after a short hunt we had cache in hand log signed - thanks for the cache
Nice to get out of the car for a decent stretch from our travels. A lot of this material (Schist) around our area as well but is always interesting to see the different formations made. A quick hunt and i zeroed in and carefully removed cache from it's hide, signed the log then replaced . Thanks for the cache.

Certainly not at path level. Takes a bit of a balancing act to retrieve and replace the container but a great hide. Thank you.
After we found the cache from the year 2000, there was still some time for a walk. Unfortunately not for the complete round to the lake.
But we passed this cache. Thanks to Kev the Orienteer for laying and maintaining.

On a caching weekend to Otago and Southland with Tuolei to pick up old caches, TMGT's, CANZ, solved puzzles and any others that caught our eye along the way. We had a 4 day long weekend planned that would take us around Dunedin on the first day, Tuatapere via Sutton, Balcutha, Mataura and Winton on the second day, Tokanui via Riverton, Invercargill and Bluff on the third day and then back to Dunedin via the Catlins on the last day. Overall we did 1578km and picked up just under 100 caches and managed to knock off most of the caches we had on our list.
Second cache on the second day, we had the place to ourselves after one other car left shortly after we arrived. Lots of places to hide here but we soon had it in hand - TFTC.
