And another one on this oldie track. Thank you very much for placing also these caches here!
This sistema we know already. Sees it also includes that everybody adds their on log sheet. We didn't, insteqd tried to find an empty space somewhere. What a wonderful morning and a wonderful walk! Thanks for inviting!
Das hat richtig Spa gemacht hier am Sutton Salt Lake!_____________________________________________________What a great landscape here at Sutton Salt Lake! Actually, the oldie Sutton Salt Lake from the year 2000 had lured me here in the middle of nowhere. But once I had reached and found the oldie, I was tempted by the marvellous landscape to go for a walk around the lake. It was great fun and even took me past a few more caches. Many thanks for sweetening this hike. It was great fun here at Sutton Salt Lake!
Found with Gazania Rigens and Wombatwandering as per their logs.A quickie with great views!TFTC
Having had a busy geocaching weekend in Dunedin, at the MEGA, matagouri and I are now continuing on with our holiday 'road trip'.On our way to Sutton salt lake, for the last of my targeted 'oldie' caches, and what a beautiful day for a walk!A nice quick find here. Thanks for setting it up
Rattll and I are continuing our holiday in the South Island after the completion of GeoToroa in Dunedin. Today, we're heading from Brighton Beach to Middlemarch, aiming to pick up as many solved mysteries as possible, and to visit the Sutton Salt Lake.I'd visited the reserve quickly a year ago, and was keen to explore more fully today. Lots of rain over the last few days meant that the lake levels were high and the tracks soggy. Quick find at GZ, though. All good in the container. Signed, and returned as found. Tftc!
No trouble finding the cache it. It was lovely to find the sun as well. Have not seen it for several days and it didnt hang around too long today either. Found with Gaz Rig and ZS. Thanks.
Found after measuring the distance around the lake for the earthcache. Thanks Kev the Orienteer#17432
Really enjoying the walk around this amazing landscape. As we were entering the area we met people wearing gumboots who told us we would need them if we wanted to keep our feet dry. Ha ha, they were wrong, the first 2.5cm of my shoes is waterproof and turned out that's all I needed. Loved watching skinks high-tail it through the grass when we disturbed them.A neat holey place for a cache ??, thanks ??!
I felt the rocks were watching me here. I wonder what they were thinking about the various groups of cachers who walked around here this weekend. The little lizards didn't like to have their sunbathing disturbed. Quick find again here. TFTC!
Found as we walked the loop in the light misty rain. Quite atmospheric actually. Signed our name on one of the many pieces of paper within the cache. Thank you
CaptainVimes and I have crossed the ditch to attend the Geo Toroa mega in Dunedin and tour around the South Island for two weeks.I went too high and CaptainVimes came up with the goods. Thanks Kev the Orienteer and happy caching
You ever tried interrogating a troll? It's like asking a mountain for directionsits not ignoring you, its just busy being a mountain. You could explain things a hundred times, but their thought processes are slower than a drunk dwarf on stilts.
Two weeks holiday in New Zealand with laalaa. Now going round Lake Sutton in wet and cold conditions Awesome round. Thanks for the cache.
Given the magnificent landscape, I was hesitant to climb these amazing structures. Their flakiness frightened me, and I did not want to destroy or damage any part of them. Turns out there is absolutely no need to venture upyour eyes can do that. Thanks to Kev the Orienteer for bringing me here.
Certainly not shit which is what I heard when the word schist was mentioned...after a google search I have learnt a new word...what an amazing area the caches were a bonus...
Day 1 of my 6 day trip to Dunedin to attend the Mega and clean up all the puzzle caches solved over the last few years. Todays journey took us from the airport via some of the new DT 81 puzzles to Middlemarch and then back to Dunedin. All caches done today were with Bruzie. Apologies for the generic logs. Thanks for all the puzzles, caches, find, frustration and enjoyment. Found quick high up on the rock.. Beautiful location.
This is day one of my Dunedin Mega trip, the first time I've ever been here before (never mind geocaching). Obviously with such a plethora of caches to find there's going to be plenty I'll skip but I hope to find my targets. Unfortunately logging is going to be generic, but thank you to all the cache owners and event organisers for the things you do.Certainly lives up to its name! All good here, and thank you to Kev the Orienteer for the placement of your Traditional Cache.Find #7193 at 24 October 2024 2:37pm

A huge thank you to the cache owner for creating and maintaining a wonderful cache. EP79 and I have embarked on a three-month long geocaching trip across the globe, and we are both grateful and thrilled to discover new places and new friends. The first part of our trip is dedicated to Australia and New Zealand. Today planned some oldies. Since we are far away from home, statistics for caches that are hard to get elsewhere took precedence. We combined the hunt with sightseeing locations going to places that are very unfamiliar with landscape so different from the one we know. Many thanks for an amazing find on the way.Sorry for logging with a delay. The trip was really busy, but at least I get to revisit these caches again and enjoy great memories. Many thanks for the invite to a beautiful place and for a wonderful geocaching adventure. Greetings from Prague, the Czech Republic, Europe.
Thank you for the cache!Another day exploring and geocaching in New Zealand with my bestfriend geocacher Ironford. We are staying in Dunedin for a few days and really enjoying our time here. Yesterday we went to see (actually sailed to see) the albatross colony, and today we have big geo-plans: some amazing oldies in great locations (the variety of landscape is fantastic), lots of driving on the left and finally shopping for dinner and snackies in our favourite New World. It turned out to be a really great day.Greetings from Prague, Czech Republic An amazing place to visit, I really enjoyed the trail and totally unusual landscape.

Day out with gdkja looking for a few geocaches. Many they have found previously. All good here. Dropped trackable. Tftc
Found the old cache and continued to walk around the lake. Sat down for some brunch and spotted this cache and a couple of others, we had already missed one!Anyhow spotted this one having gone too high first Thank you for placing
Today I left Dunedin for a trip inland to Sutton Salt Lake, where there is an old cache from December 2000. And you can't deny that. After all, it was probably my easiest hunt for an old cache ever. The walk along the circuit in the nature reserve was beautiful, but it was quite hot 31C and the sun was strong. But I was all alone and felt like Frodo Baggins from The Lord of the Rings. The landscape is beautiful and I really enjoyed the trip. Thanks for the cache and greetings from Czech republic.
# #7,057 #----------Finally saw other people walking the opposite way around the lake, dont think they were geocachers though. The lake was absolutely stunning. Such a weird place here though, it feels like being on another planet. Another nice quick find here. TFTC!!! ----------> All geocaches are signed as mmmPIZZA or mPZ

Cache 1607?? Decided after visiting Dunedin to head over towards Sutton/Middlemarch to grab another of the south islands oldest caches. Ive never been here before so as I approached the Sutton Lake Reserve I was amazed by the other worldly look of the area so cool, I wasnt going to go for any of the other caches around the lake but I was having car trouble and had to wait for the engine to cool so I could check it out so I took the opportunity to gobble up these caches ??T4TC ????
Together with Travelser I'm going Down Under. We are driving around with a motorhome. After 7 weeks driving around through Australia we arrived the 2th November in New Zealand. For ten days we will cross the Northern Island and than for 2 weeks the Southern Island.During our trip we of course search for several caches. Most of them brought us to very nice spots, like this one.All the CO's, and in this case Kev the Orienteer, thanks for bringing us here and give our trip a special accent.
After traveling around Australia with Oopie for 7 weeks, we have now been traveling with the camper in New Zealand for 4 weeks. Along the way we will of course also visit various types of caches in beautiful places, including this one. Thanks CO for creating and laying this cache.
Well named! This was close to where we stopped for morning tea, and was a quick find. Thanks Kev.
A southern adventure for a wee family Easter school holiday trip. After a few days in Dunedin we were now heading up to Naseby for a couple days...and hopefully some fine weather!
Coming this way to Naseby it'd be rude not to stop at one of the oldest caches in NZ, and do a bit of a walk. Rain held off and a lovely walk....With all the recent rain it was quite wet underfoot and the lake was pretty full. Facinating spot. Thanks. Boys entertained themselves looking for skinks along the way - breif windows of sunshine was bringing them out after all the recent rain....

I was surprised that the lake still has water in it given the drought Otago is experiencing. I was also surprised to see a heron. They apparently feed on the insects that live in the lake. The lake has an unusual smell. All in all a very interesting area to visit. The cache was found nicely tucked away. TFTC
The lake is dry, but still a cool area to visit. Found this one after a short hunt. TFTC
The lake was very dried up and a row of stone could be seen crossing the lake. The stones did not look recent. This is a late log has after finding the cache I got into a conversation with a man with a metal detector. He had only found 22 shells from hunters after the rabbits. Thanks.
Day two of my road trip through Southland. Today's journey takes me from Invercargill back to Mosgiel. Old School Challenge caches are the focus of the trip. I arrived at the carpark just after 4 pm, there was hardly a breath of wind and it was quite mild. After finding GC153, I then continued around the loop. What a special place, I enjoyed the majestic scenery and the solitude of my own company. No worries here. Cheers and TFTC
The 'lake' is completely dry today. What a beautiful day for caching here. TFTC
Yes arrived at the destination..the GPS soon had me close to a likely spot the cache was soon found and the log signed...pretty barron here at present... Not sure you could call this a lake..the evaporation rate must be extreme..thanks for your efforts setting this cache
We have finally arrived at the "lake". Almost totally dry today with just a bit of wet mud in the middle. The wind and heat today certainly will be contributing to this. Thanks for the placement Kev the Orienteer
Interesting place. Didn’t see a single soul when we were here. Saw many skinks and one gecko though. A bit stinky by the water and we wondered if that smell was normal. TFTC.
Not as salty as expected. Was at Salt Lake in Utah a few years ago. That was salty.
Yet another cache along this walkway. Sky is still overcast so temperature is nice for walking. Made a nice quick find here before we attempt the earthcache. tftc
TFTC. The last day of my family trail adventures around Middlemarch and Macraes.
I decided to walk around the Sutton Salt Lake. What a magical location.

On a caching weekend to Otago and Southland with Tuolei to pick up old caches, TMGT's, CANZ, solved puzzles and any others that caught our eye along the way. We had a 4 day long weekend planned that would take us around Dunedin on the first day, Tuatapere via Sutton, Balcutha, Mataura and Winton on the second day, Tokanui via Riverton, Invercargill and Bluff on the third day and then back to Dunedin via the Catlins on the last day. Overall we did 1578km and picked up just under 100 caches and managed to knock off most of the caches we had on our list.
Interested to see the salt lake here, Tuolei made the find while I started to map out the lake. TFTC.

Out and about on day one of Bennett24 and my holiday to the south to look for interesting caches including oldies, solved puzzles, geotour caches, and interesting types. The cache shortly down the path was a target for its old age and of course while here we collected the other caches.
By now we have reached the salt lake which was worth the walk - seems so unlikely to see this here. There are some birds who have made the lake home and we can hear them peeping away at our presence. Used this spot as a jumping off point for doing the earthcache too.
Thanks for the cache - quick find and all good here.

Grate place and an enjoyable walk.
Taybeedragon and I have an eleven day Easter weekend in Dunedin. Although, let's face it, given that we are from Blenheim and Picton that means two of those days was spent in travelling. In that time we grabbed a smidge over three hundred caches. Not bad, considering the amount of time spent way out on the back roads, on bicycles or canoeing on the water. A few virtuals, larges, letterboxes, earths, wherigos, and even ten lab caches in the haul. An awesome weekend!

24 April 2019 14:11. Another find on this amazing walk. Taking much longer as i keep getting distracted by taking photos! Tftc 1381m for the DGSc Distance challenge have a FP as this epoc task is now completed!
WE started walking this at 4pm today. Ended up going round the lake twice gathering the info for the Earth cache then again to snag and tag this one. Cheers. So now its getting cold with the sun now hiding behind the mountains. Amazing place to explore.
Tuesday 23 April - Outrum, Taieri Gorge, Middlemarch and Sutton today. With Jack and Jill along for bike ride at Middlemarch, in the mix.
Its another awesome geoventure to Dunedin, with The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby, Jack, Jill and William all along for the trip. Had a wonderful 10 days exploring Dunedin. It was great catching up with local cachers at several events we attended. Lots of walking and driving, with the odd cycle and wave ride to jazz things up. Thanks to all the COs that made this trip a wonderful success. Even managed to bag some lab caches along with wherigos, earth caches and events, with the usual mix taking us to some amazing places..

Today we found Holy Schist (Otago) on our travels. We hopped across the ditch with the old date at Sutton Lake as one of the objectives for our road trip. Once signed we decided we had to see the lake. Plenty of water in it at the moment being enjoyed by quite a few water birds.
Thanks Kev the Orienteer for being part of our geocaching fun.

A planned geocaching trip with specific targets in mind.
1: The final 2 caches to fill my D/T grid
2: The last 5 caches available (all in the South Island) to meet the NZ Jasmer challenge GC4R9Z6
3: Get as many caches as possible in a day (Solo)
I had no timetable and only a vague route (Christchurch - Dunedin- Invercargill). So after 20 days of sleeping in my tent/car I arrived home having traveled 4500km and visited some interesting places. Met some great people. I had found over 650 caches. That was a lot of park. Jump out out. Find cache sign and return. Then on to the next. All this done by myself. Also attended an event and had 2 FTF
Mission 1 and 2 were achieved and I had a best day of 153 caches. All this done by myself.
Day 8 Rakiaia to Middlemarch 18 caches found including one of the target caches. I circled a couple of times before I spotted it. Thank you for the placement.
