And, school holidays have rolled round again. We are up at the lake for a couple of days and Miss B has a walk planned. This is it, up to Whisky Falls. While Miss B and Mrs B did the walk, I played leap frog getting the caches along here.

Find 1, and yes, barely on the track and stop. Easily found.

We decided to walk to Whiskey falls today. A lovely walk with lots of bird life. We were expecting the track to be longer based on the information from the visitor centre so we were surprised when we read the sign.
This cache was in the second place we looked.
Thanks for placing

Located with Ricardinho

The first find of the day & after exploring a number of possible options, we hit the jackpot.

A lovely leisurely hike to Whisky Falls today after our excursion up Mt Robert yesterday,. The weather was stunning again & we wanted to take advantage of that We got away a little later than we hoped, but we had plenty of water to combat the heat.

The first for today, and a relatively quick find although it could have been one of many options here. A good start and we are on our way. TFTC B&W.

Second full day at the lake, and it’s another stunner.
After a successful excursion up Mt Robert yesterday, today we decide to tackle the somewhat less vertically challenging lakeside walk to Whisky Falls.
A full day with 13 caches targeted, and all were found. All were in pretty good nick, although we may have added a sliver or two of RITR paper if the logs were a bit damp.
Again, great fun, weather and company and good to see so many people out doing the walk.

A nice quick find thanks. Last for the day.

Ms_KR and I are back from our wee tour of the North Island. Today we cruised from Blenheim to Murchison. Once the morning cloud burnt off the day was hot and sunny.

Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

One upside from the recent lockdown period is that it gave me the opportunity to think about some day walks and overnighters that I've wanted to do for a while but never got around to. So, with NZ regaining some sense of freedom I set off for one such walk - the Mount Robert circuit.

...and so the trudge up the hill to the carpark begins. It's been a good day - walking and caching.

Thanks

Ok the Lake side walk is nearly over. Picked up 2x TB here and tagged this one. Cheers
Now just the last hour to walk to get back to Zara by 1pm.

Stayed at Cold Water Hutt Friday night. Ended up with 2 other roomys and 2 others camped out. Im up and on the trail by 7am. An amazing view with fog coming down the river and disbursing over the lake.

Zara and I are off for some much needed tree time, with Lake Rotoiti on my agenda for today. Arranged a hut pass, left Zara resting at TeeTotal and hit the trail by 10. Finally arrived at Coldwater Creek Hut just before 5pm.

Not allowed to drive the motorhome past the new bridge, so I biked up to the car park. That hill is grunty in places! Broke up the grind by looking for caches on the way up the hill, which gave a great unbroken ride back down. Quick find here

An interesting twist of events had me driving a van, fully set up for sleeping and camping, so I immediately applied for leave on Friday and looked for a suitable destination. St. Arnaud has been on the cards again for some time, so it was a no brainer to head in this direction! On Saturday, I decided to take a walk around Lake Rotoiti all the way through the swing bridge. Not because I was trying to keep my feet dry, but there were a couple more caches that way! It was definitely not a cold day, and I kept reapplying sunscreen and insect repellent the whole way. Excellent tramp, highly recommended!! After a previous dnf, I was going to just walk to the car, but this one was screaming at me to be found! I was going to give it 5 mins and only needed about 1.5. Thanks for all the caches that made the day so enjoyable!!!

It was very wet underfoot when we made our way to this cache but the cache was nice and dry. tftc

On our way up the road to look for Om we stopped to pick up a hitch-hicker and ended up taking her a bit further than we otherwise would have gone. Checked the GPS when we parked and noticed that there was a cache nearby. Walked down the Lake Side track and found it after a short search. Thanks.

Having had a day at the Braeburn last week today we came to the west track of Lake Rotoiti. The walk down toward the falls was uneventful but the views were much better walking back north. We walked for about four hours in all collecting caches along the way.

On a caching trip via Chch, Hanmer Springs & onto St Arnaud.

We stopped at the parking spot and had morning tea before venturing on to find the cache.

Bugger...we could have done whiskey falls. We thought from DOC info that it was a 5 hour one way trip!

Log damp but very usable.
Log now double bagged.

This was the 23rd find on out South Island trip of 2016 and first for the day. We were doing the Lake Side Track and managed to find every cache that we went for, having not gone for some that were more out of our way. This one initially gave us trouble because the GPS would not settle, however after reading a previous log we took another look and found the cache pretty quickly a few meters from where our GPS was telling us. The cache was a bit wet, but we sealed it back up as best we could. Thanks for the cache!

29-Mar-16
Found after walking out from Lake Angelus hut, and still walking ... back to St Arnaud. At least a few more caches like this were collected along the way. Thanks b&w.

NZDi and I have been planning a few days away up at St Arnaud in the Nelson Lakes. Yesterday we took over six hours to travel up the Wairau Valley from Blenheim caching along the way. The trip normally takes just over an hour but we were in no hurry as we could not check in to our accommodation until after 3pm anyway. On the way up I managed to get a nice round fifty caches and NZDi got six more that I already had converted into smiley faces.

Todays aim is to get the cache at Parachute Rock then carry on to the ridge to place one of our own, however I don't think the weather Gods are going to play the game. After that we will play it by ear. After getting back from bagging Parachute Rock minus the side trip up to the ridge, we had a shower and lunch and put on some more clothes suitable for caching in the rain. We the came out to cache the area between Mt Robert Road and the lake.

We parked at the suggested waypoint and made the short walk to this cache. C:geo was freaking out in the wet bush, but eventually settled down enough to give us a fix on the cache.

Staying at the Airforce holiday home at rotoiti - great opportunity to bag a few of the many caches hidden up here.
Woke to a cloudy morning but decided to head up Mt Robert via the pinchgut track anyway. Didn't realise how busy the track would be.
Phone died on the way down Mt Robert so just connected it to car charger and it came right after a few minutes. Saw that this cache was close to the car park so a QEF - grabbed the trackable inside too.

A weekend trip up to the Nelson Lakes with G H 6 7 1 0 and the Seagnoid was planned with a couple of days of the weekend in one of the work baches not far off the lake side in Rotoiti/ St Arnaud. Targets were set; get the Seagnoid past 4000 caches, get more than 50 a day for G H 7 6 1 0, and get me past 3200 cache finds. Also in target was some tramping, some boat caching (grabbing whilst moored as close as safely possible to G Z) some 4 W Driving and some basic park and grabs. We also wanted to get all of the puzzle/unknown caches in St Arnaud as well as 100% of the multi caches in St Arnaud (cache Tectonics!). There was driving, boating, walking, rain, mist, sun, ducklings, eels and trout, sandflies (of course), beech trees and great views. Fun and sweat (no tears), a wasp sting and over 100 caches found for me. We all surpassed our targets and at the end of 2 full on days we returned to a cooler Blenheim than when we left tired out.
The last day of January and this January has probably been my most prolific with lots of great South Island caches, with a handful of N I ones thrown in for good measure. Todays plan is to start with some P &Gs, then off up the Pinch Gut for a nice tramp, then back to the car.
A quick park, dash and grab of this one before we set off up the hill for the trip over the top. Didn't realize that we'd be popping back out of this track a few hours later after a great walk.
T F T C b&w and onwards we go

[green] Capperz decided that this was the weekend for a marathon run on St Arnaud. Not sure why, except that base lodge there had a cancelled weekend and was free to grab. So he, I and GH6710 had an interesting time caching the surrounds. Rained on and off. The wet long grass meant that I had wet feet for the entire trip. Saw the insides and tops of clouds, some great views, lotsw of rabbits (or maybe just the one, many times over - it always did the same thing: safe on the side of the road, it decides to runs across just in front of the car). Also got to see robins, sandflies, no keas, sandflies and more sandflies. We managed to get GH to break his 50/day record, and over 120 for the whole trip. Saturday we climbed half way up Mt Robert in the morning then boated around Lake Rotoiti in a little yellow plastic dingy for the afternoon. Sunday was lonely cache day - some over 10 months since their last find. Many of these found with GH's 4x4, bumping over some very rough roads, my first real experience of four wheel driving. What an awesome weekend! Big Grin
time to start the climb up Mt Robert... But, first, drop a trackable in here Smile

Our day on Mt Robert. Much anticipated. Car out to Mt Robert Car Park, up Pinchgut to Relax Shelter, across to Bushline and then down Paddys. A warm down along the Lakeside track. Managed 25 cache finds. A great day out.
This was #20 for the day. Now on warm down from the Mt Robert circuit. We drove down from the upper carpark to here. Then prepared for some walking on the Lakeside track. This being the first found on that track.
Cache find was straightforward. Cache in order; log signed, then safely re-hidden, just as found.

The Turtle strikes again!

A note of appreciation to the cache owners in and around St Arnaud. We have encountered only one DNF in our first 2 days of caching in the region. Caches discoverable, in good condition with logs intact and signable. Altogether good caching. Thanks.
