Had a good look around here. Found a huge freshly used wombat hole but no cache. Has it been appropriated by the wombat I wonder?

Day three of my Victorian Caching Adventure. Time to get put the bicycle I’d hired to work and explore the Bass Rail Trail. I left the bike at my motel and drove out to Anderson parked there and caught a bus back to Wonthaggi so I only had to cycle the one way. A great ride I’d recommend to anyone. The caching along the way was a bonus really. I had a reasonable good hit rate and found most of the ones I looked for. Cheers and TFTC

KAKAGA Mark 2: Kate And Kelly's Amazing Geocaching Adventure is happening again because we're free of children, chores and work! Hurrah! A trip down to the coast was organised with the New Years events and rail trail in mind and ended with a count of: one emergency department visit, one headbutted tree, one muggle asking if we were looking for drugs, endless swarms of flies, many scratches, one sunburned shoulder, one milestone 1000th cache, great meals, good company and 66 caches.

Boy did we get excited when we approached and saw what we thought was one of the best camouflaged hides ever. We tugged at it but it was completely natural to the tree. Damnit. In the end, Kato performed the physical exertion to acquire this cache, with help from a big stick I passed her. TFTC Gonefishen07

This weekend marked the second of the much anticipated KAKAGA trips (Kate and Kelly's Amazing Geocaching Adventures). Mummy Short Legs and I were both very excited to be given the opportunity to spend almost two full days together with nothing but a vehicle, our bikes and our GPSs for company. We were not going to let soaring temperatures or bucketloads of flies stop us, we were going to cache our way around the Inverloch/Wonthaggi area till we dropped (or until the geohusbands begged for our return at least!).

Coming prepared with bikes we hit up the rail trail on our second day of KAKAGA#2. As we approached this spot and read the hint we looked at GZ and got excited. We thought we knew what it was referring to. "Nooo!!! Really?! That's awesome!" Turns out we were wrong!!! Shame! And instead a cycling muggle happen to glance at us on the way past in rather a compromising position trying to retrieve the actually cache. I was a little reluctant to go there after a spider bite yesterday but some ingenuity got us there in the end. TFTC GF07!

While out in the company of the McLookers we set out to get a start on the trail with bikes ready & roaring, plenty of water and snacks packed we were off. The sun belting down made for a hot ride but with sunscreen applied and our helmets for protection we enjoyed the trail and all caches on offer. Most caches were found with only a few DNF'S as we kept the pace up ...pedal, search, sign, pedal!
Thanks Gonefishen07 for your efforts put into this rail trail series, we had a ball.

Oh dear! Using a torch The Tritonz spied the cache. It was almost out of reach. Fashioning a nearby piece of nature, he coaxed the cache out and we signed the log.

In the area on bikes with The Tritonz with the aim of completing the Rail Trail. The grass was very, very long in many places. Fortunately we did not see a snake...I am not sure how as it was a very snakey kind of day. Thanks GF07, it is a brilliant picturesque trail that gave us the opportunity to see another very pretty part of Victoria.

Hi there Gonefishen07.

We found your cache "Rail Trail-The Gum"at 11:44:00 AM today, & this now makes our find count 12685.

Today was "cycle day". We wanted to attempt some of the rail trail caches so we drove down to the nearest parking area and pedaled off. When we finished our run we discovered hat we had logged 16 and DNF'd 2 caches.

Coordinate Accuracy: We found this cache around 2m from where our GPS said we should be looking. Wink
Cache Condition: The container and log book are in good shape.
Took: Nothing.
Left: Smiley Badge.

Thanks for placing this cache for us to find,
Regards
Ian & Penny.

The days has heated up a bit now, the flies are extreme friendly too. Cache hunt is going very well but some DNF have been collected also. There has been a lot of work gone into this trail by the COs , so a huge thank you.

What a boomer. Should I or should I not? That was the question. I should, so with torch I laid down and had a peek. I see you, but I can't reach you. Made up a special helper and soon had the cache. Log signed and this time it is not so deep. Be careful as when I got back to the path I was covered in burrs. Grrr. Well done and I felt satisfied after the retrieve.

#768 - Day two of my trip down to the Inverloch for some caching.

The first part of my day today consisted of riding the rail trail from Wonthaggi to Kilcunda picking up as many Rail Trail caches as I could. My weapon of choice was my brothers cycle-cross bike so I could give it a go, with the decision to leave my road and mountain bike at home.

After having a bit of a sleep in to 7am this morning to catch up on some sleep, I quickly had breakfast and headed off to park at Wonthaggi to start the ride.

Between the hours of 08:00-15:00, I was able to get to Kilcunda and back as well as complete 44 of the 50 rail trail caches that I set out to do, (6 DNF's due to not being able to find them and not spend to much time there or due to muggle activity).

I was very impressed with the variety of caches and different cache hides along this part of the Rail Trail. I ended up spending a lot more time looking for caches then riding as quite a few of them were a challenge to find!

This was the hardest find of the Rail Trail trip. I am a relatively tall Goat at just over 200cm and I really struggled getting this cache! (I think it was not meant to be in so far)! After sticking in my arms, legs and using sticks as extensions, I was finally able to get the cache out. When putting it back, I did not put it in as far but you will still struggle to get it.

Thank you Gonefishen07 for the effort put into these caches, had a really fun ride.

19/09/2015 -> 2.50pm - I was the description & hint reader while You_Can_Do_It_2 did her NOT-FINDING/NOT-SIGNING bit. ... Wink Ok ... the SNAKES ARE OUT! It was between gz and the trail & I think the passing muggle cyclist may have caused the dangerous animal to try to move location. Unfortunately we were in the direction it wanted to go & as I circled north & west it was trying to go south. I am VERY glad my foot was a foot away from it & not on it! I don't thing I yelled (well not too loudly...) but who knows? I did give fair warning what was nearby so YCDI2 was in no doubt about it! I can't really remember what size it was ... black/brown, thicker than a hose but not as thick as swap & go container! I didn't manage to get a photo to "admire" as said slithery thing got out of sight while I blinked. Hmmm ... you know how you think something nasty may have happened when something like this happens? I had a sore ankle, was that from the snake biting me or was it from a close encounter from a stick? How long had said feeling been there? How did snake bite me on the opposite side of leg to where it was? Ok, I am pretty sure it didn't bite me & it was something scratchy in the grass that got me at some time before we met! Oh, the funny things that run through your mind. :-S
SmileBig GrinRed FaceRazzTwistedWink [:o)] [B)] Surprised [?] -- they pretty much sum it up! hahaha
Realised I'd left my snake bandage in the car when we were unpacking when we got home, must swap that back to my carrying bag!
On a caching stroll for 3.4km & 2 hours with You_Can_Do_It_2 along the rail trail from Dalyston to Mouth of the Powlett Rd. My finding was done for the day.

19-Sep-15
Well Ceebee had already found this one, but I was fascinated by all the spitfires on the ground under the gumtree and at the entrance to the wombat near the base of the tree, so with trusty camera in hand I took a few shots. Then I realised I was supposed to be geocaching so decided I had better make a start searching for the cache. I began the search in earnest and moved around a bit whilst Ceebee was up at the edge of the track trying to remember where the cache had been when she had found it. A moment later she let out a surprised cry of "SNAKE", and it was heading straight in my direction after she scared it with her presence. I darted away in a direction I hoped was a safe one. I stood for a moment scratching my head and attempted to continue to look for the cache, but my fear of snakes was too great and as it had headed exactly to where my GPS was telling me I should also go, I gave up and decided to leave this one for another day. SNAKE and I do not mix. Our first failure for the day.

In Wonthaggi this weekend for a whole heap of geocaching!

Saturday, and what was planned to be a massive day. The schedule was to travel to Kilcunda via the rail trail, then head back down the coast. Unfortunately I ran out of time and had to head back to Wonthaggi before completing all the caches. Nevertheless a heap of smileys are now on the map, and I had a blast. A huge thank you to Gonefishen07 for placing these, they are great! Ill be back another day to finish the area off! I apologize for the generic logs, but there are a lot of them!!

Probably spent way to long looking in the house.

There has been a lot of pruning so I don't know if that would affect this but we couldn't find it.

21-Mar-15
Up early and drove to Wonthaggi and caught the V/line Bus to Kilcunda, so we could walk the 13km+ back again, picking up a few caches as we went. We gave ourselves limited time at each cache, or so we thought until we realised the pocket query for these caches had missed quite a few and we passed many that we had in our book, but not on our Garmin - not happy about it but we cannot do anything when you're on the rail trail and away from services.

The rail trail was as busy as any you'd ever see in the big smoke, bikes, walkers, even a cycle club passed us twice during the day, making caching a difficult task at times.

The caches we found were easy, some we didn't try for due to long grass etc, plus others that we knew were there - somewhere.

We were staying in Korumburra for a couple of days with The Drovers with the main gaol of completing this rail trail and also hopefully picking up a few challenge caches.

Today's start was much better than yesterday's weatherwise with nice clear skies and although it was very windy it was to our advantage as it was a tail wind all the way.
Again wee had a fantastic time finding some unusual containers and with no DNF's we can say what a ball we had again.

Many thanks Gonefishen07 for not only the trail but for all the work and effort that you have put into the hides.

We apologise for the generic log but are leaving a favourite point on each one to show our appreciation.

We signed the smaller logs with our initials TD TC

Met up with Team Crackers for 2 days, to tackle the Rail Trail and a few local caches.

Day 2 and back on the bikes again. The weather was windy but sunny - very different to yesterday.
We found a good variety of hides, with the odd one being a little tricky.
This is a fantastic trail, and we award each one a favourite point.
Many thanks for placing this cache, Gonefishen07, for us and others to find.

Found by Mary & David at 1540. The day was really heating up now, but David had brought his eBike and was determined to finish off this remaining stretch of the trail. A nice quick find, as the CO had replaced it only yesterday. Our thanks to Gonefishen07.

Travelling around Australia in our Caravan with our cat, today Mr Felix headed out on the GeoBike to tackle some more of the rail trail.

Knowing that some of these micro's were to be evil not a lot of hope was held for a numbers run today. Wink

Happy New Year! Well seems every muggle from here to Melbourne was out walking or riding the rail trail today. Surprised. It was a struggle but somebody had to do it. Razz.

Beautiful day and the rain held off. An amazing series you have created here. So much hard work and effort has gone into constructing then of course to maintain too. Great work. In consultation with the CO Mr Felix left a replacement cache here. All good now for the next finders.

A beautiful morning for caching with cjfinda and robber44. There were any number of places I shouldn't put my hand in - rabbit holes, wombat holes - but no cache for us. Thanks for the hunt and the reminder that since we started caching we become so willing to put hands where no human should put hands Smile

Found! Found quickly, I also had to be careful of the wombat hole close by.

The day started for me at 7:25am & I finished at 5:29pm in Wonthaggi. I had the most enjoyable time seeing plenty along the way & enjoyed the variety of cache hides & containers. A brilliant effort and I thank the CO for the most enjoyable day out!

We were fortunate today to strike a day that had sunshine and a cooling breeze. We ventured along this well formed track with LazzaL and pet dog Lillie taking in the rural view to the wonderful coastline and making bee-lines for the creative caches. We would read about the next cache on the way and try and guess what item had been used to individualize and create a sense of fun in each hide. We loved it and enjoyed finding this cache. Thanks to Gonefishen07 for the enormous effort that has been put in to enhance of enjoyment of this caching experience.

A big day out on the rail trail today with fellow cachers Liz and Bruce and we managed to find a total of 79 well hidden and thoughtout caches. There was quite a variety of cache containers/hides, often the name of the cache giving a clue as to what to look for. Thanks to Gonefishen07 for hiding this cache.

Melbourne parties Friday noon and returned Tuesday morning in Melbourne. I came here to make different trail of caches in the area. It was intense few days with my bike but very nice! I could find caches with superb camouflage, very good ideas from the cachers. This log will be the same for all caches that I made (sorry) But I want to congratulate in particular:

Nut bear & BorisB & Natasha for "Bay Trail" and "Red Hill Express" (Beautiful cover!)
The Three Amigos Geo for "The Pathway"
Gonefishen07 for the great "Rail Trail"

As well as other geocacher who I discovered several caches during these few days.
Thank you very much

Found on our "Making Memories" Tour of Mainland Australia.

Today we explored Wonthaggi and surrounds using geocaching as our guide.

We found a total of 51 caches and this was one of them. Our 6th cache of the day - Amazing what you find in the bush!

As we progressed along the trail we were impressed by the variety of hides and the creative use of containers. Some we found quickly and others needed a little more investigation before they revealed themselves.

Thanks Gonefishen07 for taking the time to place and maintain these caches for our enjoyment. We really appreciate the effort gone into these creative and inventive hides. A great days caching and one we will remember.

Out for a last minute rush before Christmas, cache grab that is. Found 51 of 52 for the day and had a ball, great hides, reminisced about camping at the Mouth Of The Powlett and on the bluff at Kilcunda as a kid about 45 years ago and got some exercise. Biked a fair bit with some walking and some drive byes mostly driven by flat iPhone batteries needing a charge every now and then.

There was no way I was putting my hand into a rabbit hole in the middle of summer, lucky I found the GZ elsewhere.

Thanks for the cache Gonefishen07

Found this cache while on a solo six-day bicycle geo-tour around West and South Gippsland. I started by taking the train out to Crib Point, and then catching the ferry across to Cowes on Phillip Island. From there I stealth camped near BBQ shelters and dropped in on friends as I rode to San Remo, Wonthaggi, Inverloch, Fish Creek, Leongatha, Mirboo North, Mt Worth and Yarragon. This route took me along most of the Bass Coast Rail Trail and the Great Southern Rail Trail. I caught the train back to the city.

I'd done the northeast leg of the Bass Coast Rail Trail the day before, and camped near Bass Bridge overnight. Today I headed towards Wonthaggi.

This is the densest and longest power trail that I have done to date. Barely was I settled on my bike, which was loaded with gear, before I'd be bearing down on the next GZ. I had my Garmin attached to my handlebar and it led me along easily and faultlessly. This was the first power trail where I wrote a note about each cache because it would be several days before logging online and it is difficult to recall them.

Really enjoyed the different camos and containers.

Day 3 of wilco and red tag's Moto GP tour of Melbourne.
After completing the Woodlands 100 series near Tullamarine on day 1 and 2 we turned our attention to the rail trail series today. Most caches were found without too much trouble, but one or two were a little difficult. There was the occasional clever hide along the way too to keep us guessing. The weather was pleasant (sunny and low 20s), but slighly careless sunscreen application meant that I ended the day rather pink in some areas.

13-Sep-13
Found while walking along the rail trail first from Anderson to Woolamai. I started at 6.30pm at Anderson just to grab a few Caches, but before I knew it it was 10.30pm and I had reached the end of the line at Woolamai and then had to walk up hill back to the roundabout. The walk back only took an hour.

I Returned from Melbourne the next day to Wonthaggi to continue the series. Starting at the information centre around 11.00am and reaching the State Coal Mine about 1.30pm returning to Wonthaggi just after 2.00pm and then home to Melbourne.

A week after first starting the series I started my attack from Kilcunda at 7.00pm walking towards Anderson and returning to Kilcunda around 11.30pm. I then continued walking from Kilcunda towards Wonthaggi. After crossing the trestle bridge at Kilcunda I made it as far as Mouth of Powlett Rd before returning to Kilcunda before 1.00am.
I then drove back to the information centre at Wonthaggi at continued walking back towards Kilcunda. I only made it as far as South Dudley Rd before 2.00am. then I thought it best to return to the car and to a caravan park that was booked earlier.

The next morning I continued the hunt from South Dudley rd at 8.00am walking to Mouth of Powlett Rd by 11.45am returning to the car at South Dudley Rd at 1.30pm having completed the rail trail in both direction and walking approximately 55km.

I would now like to take the time to thank “Gonefishen07” very much for the effort put into this fantastic series of Caches also the wide and varying types of Cache containers and great camouflage.
There was Lots of great hides which were good and easy finds as well as a few that had me searching for a while due to some very sneaky and clever ideas.
Most co-ords were very good which was very much appreciated because I often said to myself trust the GPS and then would find the cache bang on the co-ords.

I have also decided the hides are much easier to find during the day rather than at some ungodly hour of the night via torch light, though the trade off is I did not see a single Muggle at night yet the sections completed during the day I had to be careful due to lots of Muggles and their 4 legged friends.

I hope to return to pickup the few DNF’s soon although agreeing with some previouse logs some of the DNF’s I suspect have been Muggled or removed by recent works at the Cache locations.

Again thanks to “Gonefishen07” for a great series

Today was our second on the Bass Coast. After overnight rain, the clouds started to lift this morning and bright blue skies were enjoyed from mid morning. This was ideal for caching. Sully1 and I had a late start today and found a heap of caches on the island before getting to stage two of our bike run. All were great to find, and although there wasn't the variety of yesterday's bonanza, there was a huge increase in the difficulty ratings and the sneakiness factor.
Thanks again GoneFishen07, a wonderful series that we need to finish

Some great hides with lots of though and effort going into them. Had a great day and had me looking forward to the completing the rest of the trail over the next couple of days.

Thanks Gonefishen07.......great trail and good fun. (Most logs will be cut n paste, while some will have more detail.)

Today we started at the round about and made it through to the Powlett river before deciding to head back to the car. We had a great day and look forward to finishing the trail off at both ends. Lots of good hides and a few that had us searching for a while. We had to leave a couple because of muggles but we hope to pick them up as drive-bys in the future.
Thanks for this series, we really enjoyed it.

Found @ 5:34pm, find # 2131.
Out for a great day of caching along and around the Bass Coast Rail Trail, I was able to get most of them but missed a section in the middle as I ran out of time. Ended up with 102 finds for the day.
A short search at GZ and the cache was found.
Thanks to Gonefishen07 for this cache and all the caching fun.

Out on a days caching with Biggles1024 trying to walk (!) the Rail Trail from Anderson to as far as we got. Another good hide and find.. TFTC Gonefishen07.

Out caching with The Swaggies today. We experienced almost four seasons in the one day, but the cold wind kept most cycling and walking muggles at bay.

Just when we thought we knew what to expect, you threw us a curve ball. I like that!
