09/01/2017 - 10.45 pm - No. 814 - 9th of 10 for the night for me - with Wal-len as driver after we parted company with Surefoot24 on our evening "let's get some new ones" trip that was vaguely organised at the evening event on 7th Jan. It was a work night for me so we started off after were all free about 7pm. We all enjoyed the cooler than "damn hot" it had been a couple of days before! I did quiz Len on whether we were going to do gentle stuff instead of hard slog stuff, she assured me that we would be doing the gentle stuff. The walk too & from was "gentle" too & I decided lighting our way would be a handy idea although Len is very familiar with this walking track as she used it most days.
Finally managed to re-visit this one after first finding it with dgfb33 27/10/2013 before I signed up for a geocaching name. Only 3 more to go of the caches I didn't manage to sign. I found, I signed, I returned it to it's home. Thanks for the cache. Wink

KAKAGA Mark 2: Kate And Kelly's Amazing Geocaching Adventure is happening again because we're free of children, chores and work! Hurrah! A trip down to the coast was organised with the New Years events and rail trail in mind and ended with a count of: one emergency department visit, one headbutted tree, one muggle asking if we were looking for drugs, endless swarms of flies, many scratches, one sunburned shoulder, one milestone 1000th cache, great meals, good company and 66 caches.

I must confess, I did sing the song after Kate asked me what the container was about. TFTC Gonefishen07.

08-Jan-17
This weekend marked the second of the much anticipated KAKAGA trips (Kate and Kelly's Amazing Geocaching Adventures). Mummy Short Legs and I were both very excited to be given the opportunity to spend almost two full days together with nothing but a vehicle, our bikes and our GPSs for company. We were not going to let soaring temperatures or bucketloads of flies stop us, we were going to cache our way around the Inverloch/Wonthaggi area till we dropped (or until the geohusbands begged for our return at least!).

Coming prepared with bikes we hit up the rail trail on our second day of KAKAGA#2. We were wondering about the title of this one on approach and my imagination was roving. So when the container was uncovered it was not what I was expecting. The question had to be voiced "what's that to do with BB bounce..." and of course, as I said it aloud the song exploded into my head. Got it. Makes complete sense. Derr! TFTC GF07

31-Dec-16
While out in the company of the McLookers we set out to get a start on the trail with bikes ready & roaring, plenty of water and snacks packed we were off. The sun belting down made for a hot ride but with sunscreen applied and our helmets for protection we enjoyed the trail and all caches on offer. Most caches were found with only a few DNF'S as we kept the pace up ...pedal, search, sign, pedal!
Thanks Gonefishen07 for your efforts put into this rail trail series, we had a ball.

Got the BB Bounce.

In the area on bikes with The Tritonz with the aim of completing the Rail Trail. The grass was very, very long in many places. Fortunately we did not see a snake...I am not sure how as it was a very snakey kind of day. Thanks GF07, it is a brilliant picturesque trail that gave us the opportunity to see another very pretty part of Victoria.

Hi there Gonefishen07.

We found your cache "Rail Trail-BB Bounce"at 11:09:00 AM today, & this now makes our find count 12679.

Today was "cycle day". We wanted to attempt some of the rail trail caches so we drove down to the nearest parking area and pedaled off. When we finished our run we discovered hat we had logged 16 and DNF'd 2 caches.

Coordinate Accuracy: We found this cache around 2m from where our GPS said we should be looking. Wink
Cache Condition: The container and log book are in good shape.
Took: Nothing.
Left: Nothing.

Thanks for placing this cache for us to find,
Regards
Ian & Penny.

The days has heated up a bit now, the flies are extreme friendly too. Cache hunt is going very well but some DNF have been collected also. There has been a lot of work gone into this trail by the COs , so a huge thank you.

#757 - Day two of my trip down to the Inverloch for some caching.

The first part of my day today consisted of riding the rail trail from Wonthaggi to Kilcunda picking up as many Rail Trail caches as I could. My weapon of choice was my brothers cycle-cross bike so I could give it a go, with the decision to leave my road and mountain bike at home.

After having a bit of a sleep in to 7am this morning to catch up on some sleep, I quickly had breakfast and headed off to park at Wonthaggi to start the ride.

Between the hours of 08:00-15:00, I was able to get to Kilcunda and back as well as complete 44 of the 50 rail trail caches that I set out to do, (6 DNF's due to not being able to find them and not spend to much time there or due to muggle activity).

I was very impressed with the variety of caches and different cache hides along this part of the Rail Trail. I ended up spending a lot more time looking for caches then riding as quite a few of them were a challenge to find!

Thank you Gonefishen07 for the effort put into these caches, had a really fun ride.

A great morning to continue the rail trail hunt with robber44 and cjfinda. I have logged these finds late and so apologise for the generic nature of these logs - one excellent hide blends into another after a long walk and a few days! We have enjoyed the work GF07 has put into this trail. Without her efforts I would never have felt the slightest inclination to walk from Woolamai to Wonthaggi - it's amazing how short a long walk can feel when liberally scattered with pieces of tupperware! A fairly quick find to start us off. TFTC.

Met up with Team Crackers for 2 days, to tackle the Rail Trail and a few local caches.

Day 2 and back on the bikes again. The weather was windy but sunny - very different to yesterday.
We found a good variety of hides, with the odd one being a little tricky.
This is a fantastic trail, and we award each one a favourite point.
Many thanks for placing this cache, Gonefishen07, for us and others to find.

14-Jan-15
We had an idea what to look for based on the name of the cache. However following the mulitple geo-trails was not a good idea. However in the end Bek (9) was successful and found it in an area that Jess and I were sure we had checked.

Travelling around Australia in our Caravan with our cat, today Mr Felix headed out on the GeoBike to tackle some more of the rail trail.

Knowing that some of these micro's were to be evil not a lot of hope was held for a numbers run today. Wink

Happy New Year! Well seems every muggle from here to Melbourne was out walking or riding the rail trail today. Surprised. It was a struggle but somebody had to do it. Razz.

Beautiful day and the rain held off. An amazing series you have created here. So much hard work and effort has gone into constructing then of course to maintain too. Great work.

We were fortunate today to strike a day that had sunshine and a cooling breeze. We ventured along this well formed track with LazzaL and pet dog Lillie taking in the rural view to the wonderful coastline and making bee-lines for the creative caches. We would read about the next cache on the way and try and guess what item had been used to individualize and create a sense of fun in each hide. We loved it and enjoyed finding this cache. Thanks to Gonefishen07 for the enormous effort that has been put in to enhance of enjoyment of this caching experience.

A big day out on the rail trail today with fellow cachers Liz and Bruce and we managed to find a total of 79 well hidden and thoughtout caches. There was quite a variety of cache containers/hides, often the name of the cache giving a clue as to what to look for. Thanks to Gonefishen07 for hiding this cache.

Melbourne parties Friday noon and returned Tuesday morning in Melbourne. I came here to make different trail of caches in the area. It was intense few days with my bike but very nice! I could find caches with superb camouflage, very good ideas from the cachers. This log will be the same for all caches that I made (sorry) But I want to congratulate in particular:

Nut bear & BorisB & Natasha for "Bay Trail" and "Red Hill Express" (Beautiful cover!)
The Three Amigos Geo for "The Pathway"
Gonefishen07 for the great "Rail Trail"

As well as other geocacher who I discovered several caches during these few days.
Thank you very much

Found on our "Making Memories" Tour of Mainland Australia.

Today we explored Wonthaggi and surrounds using geocaching as our guide.

We found a total of 51 caches and this was one of them. Our 17th cache of the day - this one was well hidden.

As we progressed along the trail we were impressed by the variety of hides and the creative use of containers. Some we found quickly and others needed a little more investigation before they revealed themselves.

Thanks Gonefishen07 for taking the time to place and maintain these caches for our enjoyment. We really appreciate the effort gone into these creative and inventive hides. A great days caching and one we will remember.

Oh dear, what can I say about this? I had tried for it on last year's GVBR but with my front brake locking back then, I couldn't give it my 100% attention. Earlier today with the whole group (and my second offer today of an ice-cream for the finder), we left empty handed again so I was starting to think this was a new nemesis cache. [8)]

Still making good time on the return to the Cape, s suggested we give it one more shot. With still no luck, I even tried calling the CO but no answer meant that it was time to go. In frustration, I did something (sorry, no hint people Surprised) and lo and behold, there it was at 17:55. A serious case of 'over-thunking' but at least I kept the ice-cream for the second time today. WinkBig Grin

And whaddaya know, it ended up being our 4200th find. Big Grin

TNLNSL, although a couple of our geocoins had a visit to make the occasion. Many, many thanks for all these caches Gonefishen07.

Out for a last minute rush before Christmas, cache grab that is. Found 51 of 52 for the day and had a ball, great hides, reminisced about camping at the Mouth Of The Powlett and on the bluff at Kilcunda as a kid about 45 years ago and got some exercise. Biked a fair bit with some walking and some drive byes mostly driven by flat iPhone batteries needing a charge every now and then.

Lucky I had one of these this morning, I could do with another BB now.

I'm pretty tired... Think I'll go home now...

Thanks for the cache and a great day out Gonefishen07

Found this cache while on a solo six-day bicycle geo-tour around West and South Gippsland. I started by taking the train out to Crib Point, and then catching the ferry across to Cowes on Phillip Island. From there I stealth camped near BBQ shelters and dropped in on friends as I rode to San Remo, Wonthaggi, Inverloch, Fish Creek, Leongatha, Mirboo North, Mt Worth and Yarragon. This route took me along most of the Bass Coast Rail Trail and the Great Southern Rail Trail. I caught the train back to the city.

I'd done the northeast leg of the Bass Coast Rail Trail the day before, and camped near Bass Bridge overnight. Today I headed towards Wonthaggi.

This is the densest and longest power trail that I have done to date. Barely was I settled on my bike, which was loaded with gear, before I'd be bearing down on the next GZ. I had my Garmin attached to my handlebar and it led me along easily and faultlessly. This was the first power trail where I wrote a note about each cache because it would be several days before logging online and it is difficult to recall them.

Really enjoyed the different camos and containers. This took a few minutes, but eventually turned up.

T4TC Gonefishen07!

Day 4 of wilco and red tag's Moto GP tour of Melbourne.
Today we finished off all but a few of the rail trail series. There were a couple of DNFs, and a couple that we couldn't really search for as a result of too many muggles. The trail obviously gets more use on a weekend (today is a Saturday), and the Wonthaggi areas were busier too. Again we had another beautifully sunny day.
A second look for this one this morning and my GPS took me straight to the cache. Yesterday we were a few metres into the bushes, but this obviously isn't necessary.

An awesome series for us Tassie caches to enjoy on our Caching/MotoGP trip to Vic. Thank you GoneFishen07, this must have taken a lot of work. We walked the length and breadth of this series over 2 days. The weather was perfect and the sights and experiences were unforgettable. Big Grin

Day 3 of wilco and red tag's Moto GP tour of Melbourne.
After completing the Woodlands 100 series near Tullamarine on day 1 and 2 we turned our attention to the rail trail series today. Most caches were found without too much trouble, but one or two were a little difficult. There was the occasional clever hide along the way too to keep us guessing. The weather was pleasant (sunny and low 20s), but slighly careless sunscreen application meant that I ended the day rather pink in some areas.
DNF this cache.

Found while walking along the rail trail first from Anderson to Woolamai. I started at 6.30pm at Anderson just to grab a few Caches, but before I knew it it was 10.30pm and I had reached the end of the line at Woolamai and then had to walk up hill back to the roundabout. The walk back only took an hour.

I Returned from Melbourne the next day to Wonthaggi to continue the series. Starting at the information centre around 11.00am and reaching the State Coal Mine about 1.30pm returning to Wonthaggi just after 2.00pm and then home to Melbourne.

A week after first starting the series I started my attack from Kilcunda at 7.00pm walking towards Anderson and returning to Kilcunda around 11.30pm. I then continued walking from Kilcunda towards Wonthaggi. After crossing the trestle bridge at Kilcunda I made it as far as Mouth of Powlett Rd before returning to Kilcunda before 1.00am.
I then drove back to the information centre at Wonthaggi at continued walking back towards Kilcunda. I only made it as far as South Dudley Rd before 2.00am. then I thought it best to return to the car and to a caravan park that was booked earlier.

The next morning I continued the hunt from South Dudley rd at 8.00am walking to Mouth of Powlett Rd by 11.45am returning to the car at South Dudley Rd at 1.30pm having completed the rail trail in both direction and walking approximately 55km.

I would now like to take the time to thank “Gonefishen07” very much for the effort put into this fantastic series of Caches also the wide and varying types of Cache containers and great camouflage.
There was Lots of great hides which were good and easy finds as well as a few that had me searching for a while due to some very sneaky and clever ideas.
Most co-ords were very good which was very much appreciated because I often said to myself trust the GPS and then would find the cache bang on the co-ords.

I have also decided the hides are much easier to find during the day rather than at some ungodly hour of the night via torch light, though the trade off is I did not see a single Muggle at night yet the sections completed during the day I had to be careful due to lots of Muggles and their 4 legged friends.

I hope to return to pickup the few DNF’s soon although agreeing with some previouse logs some of the DNF’s I suspect have been Muggled or removed by recent works at the Cache locations.

Again thanks to “Gonefishen07” for a great series

Today was our second on the Bass Coast. After overnight rain, the clouds started to lift this morning and bright blue skies were enjoyed from mid morning. This was ideal for caching. Our main focus today was to hunt for as many Rail Trail caches as we could in the day. This cache took a few minutes to locate because it blended exceptionally well with its surroundings. the contents of the cache were in good condition. TFTC Gonefishen07.

The plan was made to do more of the Rail Trail a week ago with BorisB&Natasha... Yay! today was the day.
Pumped up tyres, oiled chains and packed bags we were ready for a day of adventure.... or so I thought, about 15 min into riding my bike started having gear trouble! I haven't come all this way to turn around now so I was determined to continue on with my grinding chain.
32 fantastic caches were found for the day and only 1 DNF. Thanks Gonefishen07 for such an awesome series! the work and effort you have put into all your hides is nothing short of amazing.

Sully1 and I had a late start today and found a heap of caches on the island before getting to stage two of our bike run. All were great to find, and although there wasn't the variety of yesterday's bonanza, there was a huge increase in the difficulty ratings and the sneakiness factor.
Thanks again GoneFishen07, a wonderful series that we need to finish

Found with bogonghazy on Day 2 of our Long weekend assault of the area. The series was excellent, different from yesterdays stretch, which only added to the variety. My sincere thanks to Gonefishen07 for the work in getting this Series up and running and maintaining it so well. Definitely worth the trip down here, and we'll be back again to collect what we've missed this trip. Cheers, Leese

Some great hides with lots of though and effort going into them. Had a great day and had me looking forward to the completing the rest of the trail over the next couple of days.

Today we started at the round about and made it through to the Powlett river before deciding to head back to the car. We had a great day and look forward to finishing the trail off at both ends. Thanks for this series, we really enjoyed it.

Found on a long bike ride along the rail trail from the San Remo end to Wonthaggi.
Many were very tricky hides that took a while to find, mixed in with a few good and easy hides as well.
Had to leave a few behind after the 5 - 10 min limit was reached. Also had a few PAF helplines near the end.
Most co-ords were very good too, which was very much appreciated. Other times I was cursing the owner too.
Almost missed it but a PAF helped locate it. TFTC Gonefishen07,
