Have been back a couple more times to take co-ords, and plan the placement as we're moving the whole lot away from the original location. Construction of custom containers is well under way - having a lot of fun with our new Camo shrinkwrap - beats trying to cover odd-shaped containers in camo duct tape!!! Have had to reschedule a few things due to a (close) family bereavement but things are well in hand.
Weather hasn't been behaving but have managed to do another co-ords recce, hoping to go live soon
The weather actually behaved (mostly) so we managed to get in and do a recce and take some co-ords. Now to put together the placements. Stay tuned....
Well! finally managed to get to GZ although had to find a different route - everything is trashed up there! Our site is completely demolished. Have added a couple of photos to the page (check below) showing just some of the mess left behind. We also saw lots of track markers so anticipate the 'club' re-establishing tracks. Will do a second recce (hopefully next weekend) to make a final decision as whether we re-install the original or do something different. Stay tuned....
Still waiting to get into the park, still waaaaay too boggy to attempt given the GZ location. Will keep it on our maintenance list and hope to be able to get in there as the weather settles. Will make a new camo mat also when we pick up more materials from the site....and another pot of very super glue.....
Had a trip to the park on the diary for today, but it'll be so wet and boggy we won't be able to get near GZ. Just a case of 'hurry up and wait'.
Went to do a recce yesterday but place was crawling with people and cars, so will have to wait a bit longer to get in there for a proper look.
Have checked with the mountain bike club - the felling is over but the club have a digger in there as well as loads of people while they re-do their tracks so for the time being we can't do what we need to do. As soon as they have done the bulk of their rebuild we can get in there to see whats left. Photo attached.
Attempted to do the check on the felling yesterday but it poured down, and where we had to go was pretty steep and dangerous in the wet so we had to call it off. Will try again next weekend or before, if we can, but it gets dark pretty soon these days, and the location is not somewhere you want to go in the dark or wet. We're also checking with the Mountain Bike Club who seem to know more about it than anyone else. Chz RRR
Haven't forgotten about checking The Hylton - we were all set to go out Sunday and then the rain set in. Its still on the priority list to get out there and check - information regarding the felling is pretty thin which doesn't help. Stay tuned....
Hi GB....will attempt to get in there to ascertain the status of the felling, it may take a couple of weeks as the weather has been pretty foul....will post more as it comes to hand. cheers RRR
Have heard (and confirmed) that Hylton Park is being harvested - we don't know which parts as yet (and probably won't) so have removed the cache until the felling has been done. It may be a couple of months. Hopefully the hidey hole will still be intact, we will refresh the cache and get it back when the coast is clear.
After our riverside ramble we took a little detour to this huge cache quite quick find and we left a travelbug here TFTC
After a stroll and reading further hints it was soon located by master 7 - tnln tftc
Almost gave up on this one but reread the clues more carefully before finding it. Another typically challenging RRR hide. Tftc.
I had this on my list to do for a long time but never getting the opportunity Well a ten litre can how hard could it be well nearly a half hour of looking got it Yah gets a fave thanks RRR TFTC

Good day for a stroll.
Roamed around a few incorrect tracks, encountering an area of downed trees, turned back and found the correct more direct track which led us to the cache site.

After realizing my GPS sent me to the wrong place (its always the technology, not the user) I back tracked and finally found GZ. Although there appears to be a lot of growth in area as Cache location description is not that visible. Anyway once we found GZ, the cache was easy as it was exposed. Log book was damp so dried it out and my son had a play with some toys. Put all back and concealed in a more natural state than I found it. Thanks for giving me an excuse to go here. I knew this place was here but never got the urge to visit. I will definitely be back for more fun walks and adventures with the kids. TFTC
Took a while to find this one. GPS all over the place. Great hide. TNLNSL.
A few of us from the Manawatu Geocaching Faction headed over to Wanganui for the afternoon to pick up some geocaches. Twas a wonderful afternoon with the sun shining and plenty of FP's given away.
We reached GZ and started hunting for the cache. We kind of knew what we were looking for but still took a while to locate. Didn't need to use uncle. This is only my 5th large sized cache find. Thanks for the cache and the smiley. Found with Capperz and Hunterhillson.

Found while out on a Wednesday afternoon geocaching mission to Wanganui with Capperz and Spudnz. Cache number thirteen for the day. Found this cache by accident after ending up standing on it! Cool hide and even better being one of the few large containers around. TFTC!
On an afternoon mission with some guys from work to try and find some more of the Whanganui cache hides that we've come to know and love so well. This being a dot day too, this was also my second trip to the river city in the last week, such high esteem (and amount of unfound, and ingenuous caches) that I hold this place in.
So an E K O from work had been sanctioned and I met up with Hunter hillson, Spud N Z and sadly tommy gun 9 could not make it along today.
A real Rachels Riff Raff caching day today and this was yet another nice one. After walking up from nearby parked car we came upon the cache when Hunter Hill Son found by accident a nicely sized and hidden cache
Thanks for the cache R R R

The tracks in the park were very wet and slippery today, but we safely found our way to the cache location, and found the big tree. Although the coordinates were pretty accurate, we had Uncle organized ready to assist if required, and with his assistance, the cache was then a quick easy find. TFTC
Quick find some how due to master Ethan finding it as i was about to start looking in wrong area, masive container but no pen to sign book with. Great cache thou
Found with mortal 3 and co lol very nice hide ! Gutted I did not find first haha

Finally knocked the bugger off! Third time lucky visit. With some help from the GJ's, we finally did it. Must learn to follow our noses a bit more. Once we found 'the tree' we had the cache in hand in less than a minute.
Took Mega coin.
Left 2 matchbox cars.

2nd visit to this one with Awesome Atkinsons. With phones working this time we were able to locate the right place and master GJ spotted something and found it very quickly.. Way to go.. Clever hide..
Took out fish and miniature wine bottle and put in helicopter and car.

It's the Seagnoid's birthday today, so I bought me a birthday present - a car hire! Off to Wanganui for a couple of days caching. Makes a change from wearing out my bum over a 60km ride to get those darn August caches!
Track was boggy in places but easy to walk around. Surprisingly short walk - i was expecting something longer. Just didn't look at the scale on the GPSr I guess. Cache is impressive! I didn't count but there must be over 50 treasure items in that stash! I added a trackable - a rubber duck. He'll be very camoflaged! You'll have a heck of a time searching for the duck, although searching for his trackable tag should be a doddle. Also dropped in some pathtags. And a favourite.

with a bit of daylight still left a quick trek was made to GZ, took a few mins to located the cache, surprised by the large size of the cache, I had an even bigger surprise while emptying the cache, one of the toys let out some words as the bag was removed from the container and I thought I had been caught by some muggles.

I headed back to this cache in the early afternoon without the kids hoping geo-luck was on my side. After only ~5 minutes my stick hit something worth investigating. Uncle was right - Jackpot!!
No wonder I couldn't find it last time. With the last find being 2 months ago the bush had hid any hint of a geo-trail and it was covered very well with autumn leaves and pine needles.
With such a well stocked cache I couldn't let the kids miss out so I returned with them later in the afternoon and they enjoyed this cache.....as well as the mud.
This cache makes me want to get a Mountain Bike and check out some of the cool tracks they have in this park. Looks like heaps of fun.
Thanks for the adventure and TFTC

After exhausting our search area we came away empty handed. Sorry kids.
I have to admit, it took a while... No need to say 'Uncle' though. Enjoyed the walk there, and I was sorry that I hadn't taken anything to add to the treasure.
One I'd recommend for the kids, they will enjoy the contents, as well as finding the cache.
Enjoyed our walk, thanks for bringing me here.

#5191. We enjoyed our walk through a park we hadn't discovered on our previous caching trip. A few bikers were out and about, but there were no near misses. Once we got to GZ (via a slightly roundabout route) I spotted something interesting straight away. A great hide. TFTC.
I ride and work on the trails of the park and all ways wanted to put one up there but never got around to it. Great hiding place and cool things inside. My gf is now signed up as she enjoyed the hunt and goodies so much.
Brilliant! Took some friends along for their first hunt, they thought it was great! The kids had a great time choosing their swaps. Thanks for a fun evening.
PS forgot to add uncle to the log, busy watching the kids with their swaps! Love the word find clue!

Found it at last as been on the waiting for geopartner to be free and have the time. Chose a hot day and did the climb at 1 pm. Not nearly as difficult as I thought. Walked on road or tracks all the way except for the last bit. Saw something out of place and soon had the cache. Signed the log and took nothing. Cache dry. Replaced carefully and covered well as the wind had exposed a small chink. All in all took us 30 minutes to find a great cache with lots of swaps as well as a challenge.
Thanks to Rachels riffraff and have given it a favourite.

Took quite a lot of searching around but was finally found in the end. Very nicely hidden. TFTC
I am the 5th finder and took the last prize - thanks. Quite a bit of head scratching before I located the treasure trove!!
Certainly the best stocked cache for kids swaps I have seen for a long long time.
If you have kids, bring good swaps (kids as well) and find this cache.
Gets a favourite point from me

This was allot of fun but really difficult. Never used clue because we didn't realize how it worked but eventually found it.
went for an early morning excursion after what looked like an exciting cache.
After a frustrating hour scratching around, gave up & went home. It's impossible to search without damaging the area. GPS was all over the place & wouldn't settle, but thought we were in the general area (found the tree mentioned). The clues didn't help us what so ever, Uncle's especially!

Tried last night with no luck and then back again this morning. Could tell that someone had been searching since I had been there, wondered if rattll had been andf left the cows to milk themselves. Unless you are in the correct spot even the uncle clue doesn't really assist. Found more by accident than good luck although it was probably rattll who uncovered some of the camo that I spyed. Have given some feed back to rachelsriffraff on what migh improve the find rate given that it is a treasure trove for kids. A blank log for the FTF and a new torch in my kit thanks very much . TFTC
Back for a second try, armed with the new hint.
Using the new directions, we found it very quickly. Not surprised we didn't find it this morning though!
It's an excellent hide, but too good without good clues, because of the unreliability of GPS's under tree's, & too many hide possibilities.
Shouldn't be a problem for people now.
We chose the emergency raincoat as our reward. Thanks for that. Also left a pet rock - an elephant. TFTC

After some initial (*ahem*) 'testing' (sorry Rattll), have re-written the clue adding more detail. Its a fine line between giving enough clues to ensure the bush is left intact and just telling you where it is. Hopefully the additions we've made will make it a bit easier and prevent damage. Any feedback on making this a fun (not frustrating) cache is greatly appreciated. Cheers
