Had a few minutes spare before heading back to Manchester. I lived in Edinburgh for a few years in the 90s and never once visited this monument so I was glad to right that wrong. A typical photo of the monument is attached - thankfully for you, dear reader, it is not a selfie! Many thanks

A fun earthcache....

1st day in Edinburgh and I had an hour or so to walk around the area while the good wife went shopping. Managed to work out my answers and all was good. I thought Q3 was a lot of fun and I had a good look to try and work it out......

Thanks St.Matthew for the cache and showing me the area/monument. Fav point added.

Message sent with answers to CO.
This was an easy one because I live locally. And used to work very locally.
My first memory of this monument was many years ago when my Grandad visited Edinburgh and sent a postcard with the monument on.
I worked for many years in St Andrew Square, and today, if anyone saw me, they would have noticed me staring up at a building beyond the Scott Monument that is currently being demolished, rather then the monument itself. I can still see up to where I used to look down to the monument, and particularly watch the big wheel going up in November. I took a series of photos of its construction once. My little corner of Scottish Provident won't be there much longer though I feel Twisted

After exploring Edinburgh on "shank's mare", I first decided to stroll through the Princess Garden and to look at the hustle and bustle there. Following a recommendation I finally decided to climb about 280 steps and to look at the city from above. It has absolutely been worth.

Thanks für showing and greetings from Germany

An interesting exercise this. I have never thought about the qualities of sandstone before except to note that the red sandstone up the east coast does not weather well.

Not to be missed for various reasons. Quite impressive, be it in bright sunshine or in rain (seen it on both occasions today, but preferred the sun Razz).
Thanks St.Matthew for the informations provided!

While walking around the wonderful city of Edinburgh, I kept spotting the Walter Scott Monument. This Earthcache gave me a great reason to break away from the group for a while and go get a closer look. I really enjoyed reading about the geological qualities of the monument. Email has been sent. Mr Be@r has lived in Edinburgh for almost 20 years, been past the Monument countless times and climbed to the top once a few years ago but he did not know much about the sandstone until today. Thanks for the cache and the enjoyable education.

My second earthcache - two in one day.Big Grin Completed on a bank holiday day out to Edinburgh with my Mum. Smile

Have seen this monument on numerous occasions (it is hard to miss if you're in the city centre Red Face) but never stopped to look at it so closely before - it's amazing what you learn when out caching!

This is one cache that is not going to have you on your hands and knees to locate! As it is on the list of any tourist's visit to Edinburgh we had to come here to find it.

Mzebonga and I visited this site the day we arrived in Edinburgh, but by the time we decided to go for a walk to this cache, the gates were closed for the day. We were out and about this evening after a great day in Holyrood Park and decided to give this one another go. It ended up being our sixth earthcache that day--awesome!

E-mail with answers has been sent. Thanks for bringing us to this impressive monument!

We attempted this cache the night before but the park was closed so we couldn't get the last few questions.

After going to Holyrood in the morning, we spent an hour or so recuperating at the hotel and headed out for another attempt at this one. A truly impressive monument and our sixth and final EarthCache of the day!
