Archiving and collecting all the containers of the trail in coming weeks to open the area up for fresh new caches for anyone to place.

Day two of the HCRT grand adventure and today Geosnag1 was on foot running as he needed to get some k’s under his legs whilst StrangeTrousers and LuckyL10n and myself where on our bikes. It was a tad cold and windy when we started however the day cleared and wind died down to make it a pleasant experience.
The Start was at Huon and ending at “End of the Line”. Today was a little more of a challenge on the bikes with most of it being uphill but still very enjoyable and should not be a challenge for anyone with normal fitness levels. Again the views were stunning with added wisps of fog or clouds over the lake and hills to give you that “ahhh” moment. Really enjoyed all the different types of cache containers and hides.
Yes I had a good laugh at being thrown up a tree by StrangeTrousers and LuckyL10n and we agreed that the highlight was the bridge crossing and are very grateful that some of these old rail way lines have been turned into rail trails for others to enjoy.
All logs signed as "LSGC" being LuckyL10n, StrangeTrousers, Geosnag1 and CBRChic

#7444 - 12:55; A plan was hatched a few weeks back with StrangeTrousers and CBRCHIC to tackle the High Country Rail Trail (HCRT) from Wodonga to Tallangatta this weekend. After completing the first half yesterday afternoon, we were back this morning to wrap up the journey, albeit a little saddle sore in my case. We started a little east of where we finished yesterday, after dropping the bikes and then taking the geomobile to the end of the trail ready for our arrival later in the day. It was another enjoyable ride along the trail with lake views most of the way. I can't believe how long it took the mist to clear from the hilltops, particularly given the strong breeze we encountered along the way. Apologies for the largely generic logs. We again found all of the caches we were after today, still signing as LSGC and still resorting to the cache name for inspiration when we got a little stuck. Again, most were in good condition, with some which are in need of some TLC. A case of dropsy here meant the log had to be jerry rigged. See ST's log for more. TFTC The Trail Crew
#3147 38 of 40 today.
Day 2 of the HCRT trip.
Out with CBRChic, LuckyL10n & Geosnag1.Today was another fantastic day's caching out along the HCRT starting just past "All Aboard at Huon & ending at "End of the Line". The scenery once again was amazing, but it was bitterly cold this morning. We didn't kick off until about 10 after to-ing & fro-ing cars and bikes and today, GS1 was on foot, but still managed to outpace us ! This part of the trail was a lot more uphill than expected, and into the biting wind for the most part. The wind did eventually drop as we neared the end and it was once again a very pleasant day.
Highlights for me were: pushing CC up into a tree, the bridge crossings, the view and the sense of achievement.
All logs signed as "LSGC" being LuckL10n, StrangeTrousers, Geosnag1 and CBRChic
I must apologise to the CO. I dropped the bottom of the bison & could not locate it again. The 3 of us searched in vain for about 10 mins. There's a lot of leaf litter and with its camo, it just vanished. It must still be there somewhere, but we couldn't find it. We could only wrap the remains in a plastic bag & leave it. Once again, apologies for my clumsiness.

Decided to make a start on the rail trail series with ptw312. A new metal fence has been put up so some dexterity is required. Well camouflaged but quickly found. Tftc
out to day with fzb233 a quick climb through a new fence and the cache was in hand tftc
Well I am well into the final set of caches along this lovely trail. I see now that I came up at an opportune time to finish them before theymeet a watery grave. It has also been nice to cycle this time with the Hume Dam with plenty of water in it. Being a Saturday the trail is full of other riders who frequently ask me if I need any assistance as they see me searching at the sides of the trail!
Thanks to the Trail Crew for this trail

While taking a stop at the lookout the cache gave the opportunity to stretch the legs and enjoy a part of this beautiful trail.
This one I couldn't find. There is a new looking metal fence in the area and the GPS pointed about 10 m behind it. Maybe the CO can check it?
However thanks for showing me an interesting part of the country.

Back to logging a few more of these after a couple of days break.
Covering the HCRT over 2 days on our trip from Canberra to Albury we had a wonderful time riding around the lake. There are spectacular views all the way and the lake was so full after a wet spring.
A few DNFs over the course of the trip, and some tired caches, but all in all a really wonderful adventure and some beautiful birdlife and animals along the way.
Thanks The Trail Crew for placing this series.

Suscoe had a most enjoyable day out today in the very good company of Phetlern following this trail to Old Tallangatta.
It was a mild to warm day with cloud and the occasional sunshine breaking through.
We enjoyed the various hides along the trail.
Cache found and the log signed.
This is a beaut place to geocache and we thank The Trail Crew for placing these caches out here.

Being camped on the shore of the picturesque and currently overflowing Lake Hume, with our great geo-friends the Suscoe duo gave us the perfect opportunity to put some more smiley tokens along the HCRT series. We thoroughly enjoyed finding such a variety of hides, which we tried to predict by the cache name.
Our thanks to The Trail Crew for placing and maintaining this trail.

#1833 The cache was found quickly and easily after looking in the right spot.
I came from Canberra to spend 2 days caching along this High Country Rail Trail. I parked my car & cycled along. There was no rain today, just wind. Today is day 2. It was a great experience. Loved the old train stations, views of Lake Hume, the variety and styles of caches, overflowing rivers and floodplains and wonderful rolling green hillsides. I found a total of 89 caches.

TFTC. We are camped at Huon Reserve for a few days. The plan was to cycle out to the end of the trail and to cache on the way back until it got too hot. By the time I arrived at trail end the temperature was creeping up.
Not sure about Millie but we signed the log and continued on our way.

Found on our journey back from the Mega in Stanthorpe. We decided to stay one more day and see if we could complete the series today. The weather was perfect and the numbers might be achievable if we separate. Mr Morris worked out the logistics of transport, cycling, meeting up and then repeating it all over again until we were done.

[font=Comic Sans MS]Hi there The Trail Crew. We found your cache "Millie Was Here - HCRT series" at 8:45:00 AM today. This cache makes our find count 10499.

This was our 9th find in the series this morning. Ian enjoyed the cycle along the trail, but as Penny is still learning to ride a bike she finds the going fairly difficult. (Once she gets the hang of the gears she will find it easier). [8)]
Please excuse our boilerplate logs, hopefully they won't detract from the great caches we found today
[/Blue]
Coordinate Accuracy: We found the cache around 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking.
Cache Condition: The container and log book are in good shape.
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards

Heading back to Tallangatta - will take me 3 years to finish this trail as we only visit at this time of the year, and I am not getting into a good routine yet. Am not very observant at the best of times and this one proved a challenge. Even once I found it from one angle I was able to loose it again when I tried to retrieve it! No worries was #4 of 24 caches today ( 2 DNFs and 1 No way will I even attempt that one when out by myself!)

Headed to Albury this long weekend on a Geomission with Rapidlywild and specimenX.
Today was the day to attack the HCRT trail, not starting out as early as we should have this was going to be interesting to see if we would actually completely finish it. SpecimenX and myself on the bikes and Rapidlywild in the car.
Another relatively quick find at this one, logging duties performed and then on our way again.

Well the weekend was upon us and the planned Geomission with specimenX and FurfacesLL in Albury/Wodonga was here
We had been planning this weekend for sometime now and had been busy solving puzzles in preparation for the weekend. We spent the weekend doing the HCRT trail, some of the HSS series and some surrounding areas.
Officially day 1 of the attack on Albury/Wodonga area. Today we had plans to attach the HCRT Trail via pushbike and collect some random ones along the way also.
FurfacesLL and specimenX went off on the pushies while I went off in the geomobile to meet them at certain locations and continue the trail on foot. Logging duties completed and on we went.

School holidays again so it's time to get outside in the beaut spring weather and find a few caches!
Heading down the rail trail today to see if I can find the last of the HCRT series that I've yet to make a mark on. GeoDog Rosie is loving the fun in the sun as well!
Quick find even though I did check the metal and concrete objects first.

New ph isn't as geo savvy as the old one so we were on our own with the satellite imagery & our geosense on this one. The ph was pointing us back to tallangatta bakery & our stomachs almost turned us back too...when geokid had to go behind a tree for a moment. And there it was - staring right back at me! SL tftc
Scrambling through the thick undergrowth, Bingley3683 helped me to find it. TFTC
Wow what is that spiky tree a bit closer to the trail? Thornbill stayed on the trail, not wanting to get her feet wet, so it was up to me. Luckily I spotted it quickly. TFTC
A lovely winter's afternoon in the fresh air and sunshine with the family. And just a stones throw from our new home. Had fun finding this one!
Found with pprass and Team Pathfinder on a lovely cool day for cycling on the Rail Trail. This is necessarily a generic log but I will endavour to make individual comments also.
Found at 4:06 PM GAFF1 in the company of Alansee and Ian from Ian&Sue - Team Pathfinder.
We finally woke up to a beautiful day, which meant that our plan that we hatched the previous night around the camp fire at Richo's of finishing off this series after nearly a 13 month gap was on!
It really was a beautiful day - still and clear as a bell which highlighted the beautiful valley in its autumn colours.
Thanks The Trail Crew.
ps: We signed the log books as Team APIS

We met up with Pprass and Alansee at Richardson Bend to spend a couple of days camping on the Murray River. After a rainy day on Saturday the sun was shining on Sunday so it was decided that a cycle on the HCRT was in order. We found 75 caches and enjoyed some beautiful scenery. A wonderful trail the likes of which we don't have in Western Australia.
Thanks for setting up these caches.

I had been camping for a couple of days on the Mitta Mitta near Tallandoon and was heading home, so I did some caching on the way.

Almost through this great series now. This was a great excuse to get on the bikes and enjoy this well configured series. Found with J+J.au and Wilbert67 as we made our mark on the caches in this area. Over the four day weekend we found some great caches showing us some fantastic locations and others challenging our geocaching skills. Thanks to all the cache owners for the obvious effort injected into this series and thanks to my colleagues for the company. SL.. TFTC
Enjoying 4 days of caching out this way with Baja15 and Wilbert, we have had this HCRT trail in mind to do. out of the series we DNF 1 and found all the rest except the the disabled caches.
I enjoyed the variety of hides and the themes on some were a bit spooky, the views along the way is beautiful.

The last hcrt for us. We have thoroughly enjoyed this series and our trip to albury. Tfts
I mentioned to some Caching friends my love of caching on my pushbike and asked if they knew of any good trails as I would be without my kids for a week between Christmas and New Year. Code1 put me onto the HCRT and a quick look and the trip was planned. I checked the internet and it seemed camping was available at Ebden reserve right on the trail. When I arrived this was not so! (don’t believe everything you see on the internet!) So I had to settle for a paid campsite at the Boathaven Caravan Park just up the road. After setting up the tent by 7pm on the 27th Dec I got on the bike and decided to get a few nearby. The first one I found was disabled and I soon realised why when I found only the lid of the container! I had better luck from then on. I did 8 on the 27th , followed by about 50 on the 28th (25k out and 25k back in mid 30’s heat nearly killed me!), and the remainder on the 29th. I found nearly all of them but for a few DNF’s that I may come back for one day.
Thanks to the Trail Crew for all the work that goes into setting up a trail like this …… loved it and will recommend it to all cachers.

From when it was first published the HCRT was on our "to do" list. Today we were able to make a start. Shanks pony was our mode of transport and we really enjoyed the walk despite the heat. The scenery was superb. We were impressed by the variety of hides and the accuracy of the co-ordinates. Congratulations The Trail Crew on an outstanding series. If we do not find all caches in this series this visit we will be back.
Plenty of stomping and stick banging accompanied our short sortee off the trail to this hide. We really feel uncomfortable walking through such high grass in very hot weather. We stood back and surveyed the area around GZ and quickly spotted the cache. Back on the track we spent a few minutes removing sharp grass seeds from shoes, socks and clothes and fanning away flies before heading off again.

Had a great day riding along most of this trail with Lachdog15. Was very quiet on the trail all day, probably because of the predicted rain! Really loved this trail, a lot of effort went into this. We have finally returned after doing the first half a few weeks ago.
HCRT#101.
We parked the car at the Old Tallangatta lookout so we could access the last two on the Trail with the strength of young legs waning for the day. The local council are doing nice work here to make this very interesting focal point of history a great attraction. We viewed the map of the former township, and tried to make out all the ruins that were detailed on it.
Shortly after we rejoined the trail and headed northwards towards "Millie...". Really we should of left these two until last, but we tend to do things a bit 'Irish' when we are out.
It was only a couple of hundred metres trek to GZ, where we spotted the usual signs that something was hereabouts. The GPS was suggesting that anyway, and after checking a couple of spots we ended up with the prize, nicely camo'ed in its hiding spot. SL at 1.30pm.
Getting close to having the Rail Trail done and dusted, with mixed feelings of triumph and sadness. TFTC The Trail Crew.

This is the first (and only) time that GeoMum has (or ever will) dragged us on a geocaching holiday. Although we were a bit dubious, the walk along the High Country Rail Trail was hauntingly beautiful. We loved exploring Old Tallangatta and the spectacular bridges along the road.

It is time for school holidays for GeoTeens and myself. We decided to see how much of the High Country Rail Trail series we could do. So we set off from Melbourne and headed to Tallangatta, but a slow start to the day meant that we didn't arrive until dusk. So we had a good night's sleep, and just looked for a few before heading on to Canberra.
This was the third find on a glorious winter's morning. We love the HCRT series, as it traverses a beautiful part of the country. Thank you to The Train Crew for all your effort in placing and maintaining this series.

Thanks so much for the series : lots of fun, beautiful scenery, WELL WORTH doing!! And for the record even a 9 year old can pump out 104 caches on a bike in a day!!! Thanks TTC
Found at 2:27:00 PM.
I had an awesome time doing this trail. If there is a physical challenge involved in a cache I think I enjoy it even more, so after being invited down to the event I had a look around and found this trail. As it turned out, I ended up doing it on my own and as such wouldn't have a lift back at the other end. Oh well, I can always ride back.
So after picking up a few of the caches before the event on Saturday to get the lay of the land and to minimise the kilometres for the following day I started out the second day's journey at "Come on in, the cows don't bite". Cache after cache I cycled on, knowing with each turn of the pedals it would be another back. Only two DNFs along the way and I was expecting one of them made for an excellent run of numbers, plus I really enjoyed the variety of hides.
I did curse a few of the "micro without a hint" caches since I was there for a good time, not a long time . Muggles were a bit of an issue at times, especially on Sandy Creek Bridge, where there was a crowd of them an the Tallagnatta end. I had to wait them out for at least 5 minutes before getting on my way.
One of the creatures I came across sure scared the crap out of me, but the rest were pretty benign and my heart was fairly thumping when I had to climb out on a precarious, no longer maintained (I hope this bolts aren't too rusty) protrusion.
At about the 20km mark I was starting to tire and wished there were fewer caches (shock!!). But a quick lunch and another DNF in Tallangatta had me refreshed for the final push. I even added a km by cycling out to the next cache after "the end of the line". 6.25 hours for the outbound journey.
The return trip was done with only 3 rest stops and 2 stops to survey a couple of my outbound DNFs, which I had consulted the Trail Crew on during lunch. Both remained DNFs and could do with checking on. When I had started on the section close to the main road, I got sick of the rolling resistance of the gravel path and traded in some slight uphills for the smoothness of the main road. Two hours and 5 minutes after setting off from Old Tallangatta I was back at the car with a very sore bum and very tired legs and 79.5km on the odometer. Ready for the 3.5 hour drive home.
Thanks to The Trail Crew for the effort in laying and maintaining this series (not to mention the expense). Keep up the good work!
