Day three of my Victorian Caching Adventure. Time to get put the bicycle I’d hired to work and explore the Bass Rail Trail. I left the bike at my motel and drove out to Anderson parked there and caught a bus back to Wonthaggi so I only had to cycle the one way. A great ride I’d recommend to anyone. The caching along the way was a bonus really. I had a reasonable good hit rate and found most of the ones I looked for. Cheers and TFTC
Alas, this log too is soaked and the lid is rather difficult to maneuver. Thanks anyway Gonefishen07.
KAKAGA Mark 2: Kate And Kelly's Amazing Geocaching Adventure is happening again because we're free of children, chores and work! Hurrah! A trip down to the coast was organised with the New Years events and rail trail in mind and ended with a count of: one emergency department visit, one headbutted tree, one muggle asking if we were looking for drugs, endless swarms of flies, many scratches, one sunburned shoulder, one milestone 1000th cache, great meals, good company and 66 caches.
This cache may be undercover, but cover hasn't stopped it from needing some love. Very wet and sad. TFTC anyway Gonefishen07.

This weekend marked the second of the much anticipated KAKAGA trips (Kate and Kelly's Amazing Geocaching Adventures). Mummy Short Legs and I were both very excited to be given the opportunity to spend almost two full days together with nothing but a vehicle, our bikes and our GPSs for company. We were not going to let soaring temperatures or bucketloads of flies stop us, we were going to cache our way around the Inverloch/Wonthaggi area till we dropped (or until the geohusbands begged for our return at least!).
Coming prepared with bikes we hit up the rail trail on our second day of KAKAGA#2. Bit difficult to miss this one when you approached from the right angle. Took us a while to get into it though as the lid was a bit stuck. We could see why it had been affixed so firmly when we opened it because it looks like the weather has gotten inside in the past. Everything was rather wet. Log signed and replaced as found. TFTC GF07

While down at on Wonthaggi for the annual event we took the trail after lunch. Mr X dropped me off at one road and drove round to the next. Rather hot and lots of flies but managed to make the easy find.
Thanks for the cache Gonefishen07

While out in the company of the McLookers we set out to get a start on the trail with bikes ready & roaring, plenty of water and snacks packed we were off. The sun belting down made for a hot ride but with sunscreen applied and our helmets for protection we enjoyed the trail and all caches on offer. Most caches were found with only a few DNF'S as we kept the pace up ...pedal, search, sign, pedal!
Thanks Gonefishen07 for your efforts put into this rail trail series, we had a ball.

Very nice big cache.
In the area on bikes with The Tritonz with the aim of completing the Rail Trail. The grass was very, very long in many places. Fortunately we did not see a snake...I am not sure how as it was a very snakey kind of day. Thanks GF07, it is a brilliant picturesque trail that gave us the opportunity to see another very pretty part of Victoria.

Reasonably quick find once I had the side right. Thanks for maintaining and placing, Gonefishen07.
Find #896
Started off from next to the Pony club today to enjoy the trail for the 3rd time. I am really enjoying this trail and cache series and thought it would be good to try and finish it off before the warmer weather brings out both more muggles and snakes! This was 15 of 19 found along here today. TFTS Gonefishen07 and other that help in maintaining the caches. Dont know how I missed this on the 1st look, but I will blame the above knee height grass! haha

Thought we were in for a hunt as we approached the spot. After a short search, I spotted something that needed a closer attention. Yes, log signed and all back again.
Quick find, saw it from the trail as I knew there was a cache near by but it was a good cammo/strategic cache as I had never noticed it before. Found with Jagn TFTC.
Suscoe was heading home today but luckily we had a reasonably short distance to go and so we still had a good few hours to spend in and around Wonthaggi.
The day started out cloudy with some drizzle but it was mild and as time went by some sun broke through on occasions.
We took in a number of cache sites around the town and along the Rail Trail too.
Thanks to Gonefishen07 for placing this cache here.
Well this was a nice place to turn around for today.
A well constructed hide and for us lucky 13.
Thanks for this work, we think this is the 4th instalment of parts of this trail for us and we continue to get great enjoyment out of the hides and the ride/walks that we have done along the way.
We will be back at some stage in the not too distant future to tackle a bit more of this excellent trail.
A favourite from us for the efforts put in to setting this up and for maintaining it so well.

Found it great size container took love bug travel bug left hand painted rock tftc
Nice hide in the middle of the rail trail. Left a TB in the cache. Safe travels stripes!
The days has heated up a bit now, the flies are extreme friendly too. Cache hunt is going very well but some DNF have been collected also. There has been a lot of work gone into this trail by the COs , so a huge thank you.
My husband said this container is not even hidden. That's right, it's under cover! Took a trackable which doesn't seem to be logged as being here. TFTC
First rail trail with the crew. Perfect cloudless day for it. Love the thought put into each cache! Sorry about the generic log!
Easy find after two DNFs. At least one for the day! Swapped and left a trackable after logging in.
On a road trip while over for the Melbourne Mega.
Thanks for adding to the enjoyment of this trip.

#748 - Day two of my trip down to the Inverloch for some caching.
The first part of my day today consisted of riding the rail trail from Wonthaggi to Kilcunda picking up as many Rail Trail caches as I could. My weapon of choice was my brothers cycle-cross bike so I could give it a go, with the decision to leave my road and mountain bike at home.
After having a bit of a sleep in to 7am this morning to catch up on some sleep, I quickly had breakfast and headed off to park at Wonthaggi to start the ride.
Between the hours of 08:00-15:00, I was able to get to Kilcunda and back as well as complete 44 of the 50 rail trail caches that I set out to do, (6 DNF's due to not being able to find them and not spend to much time there or due to muggle activity).
I was very impressed with the variety of caches and different cache hides along this part of the Rail Trail. I ended up spending a lot more time looking for caches then riding as quite a few of them were a challenge to find!
Thank you Gonefishen07 for the effort put into these caches, had a really fun ride.

In Wonthaggi this weekend for a whole heap of geocaching!
Saturday, and what was planned to be a massive day. The schedule was to travel to Kilcunda via the rail trail, then head back down the coast. Unfortunately I ran out of time and had to head back to Wonthaggi before completing all the caches. Nevertheless a heap of smileys are now on the map, and I had a blast. A huge thank you to Gonefishen07 for placing these, they are great! Ill be back another day to finish the area off! I apologize for the generic logs, but there are a lot of them!!
Another quick grab and I was on my way.

On our way back from the tricky dune caches we noticed we were not too far from a large cache as we do like large caches so parked were the rail trail crossed the road and walked the short distance as darkness descended. A quick find of a good sized container was made at GZ. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC.
We had a great day on the rail trail between Dalyston and Wonthaggi today. Thanks to Gonefishen07 for your effort in hiding all these caches.
The kids enjoyed looking at all the different swaps in this one.
The kids enjoyed looking at all the different swaps in this one.
Up early and drove to Wonthaggi and caught the V/line Bus to Kilcunda, so we could walk the 13km+ back again, picking up a few caches as we went. We gave ourselves limited time at each cache, or so we thought until we realised the pocket query for these caches had missed quite a few and we passed many that we had in our book, but not on our Garmin - not happy about it but we cannot do anything when you're on the rail trail and away from services.
The rail trail was as busy as any you'd ever see in the big smoke, bikes, walkers, even a cycle club passed us twice during the day, making caching a difficult task at times.
The caches we found were easy, some we didn't try for due to long grass etc, plus others that we knew were there - somewhere.

Harder to open than find. Had to wait for Muggles to pass then set about the task at hand. Biggest find if the day so far. TFTC
A great morning to continue the rail trail hunt with robber44 and cjfinda. I have logged these finds late and so apologise for the generic nature of these logs - one excellent hide blends into another after a long walk and a few days! We have enjoyed the work GF07 has put into this trail. Without her efforts I would never have felt the slightest inclination to walk from Woolamai to Wonthaggi - it's amazing how short a long walk can feel when liberally scattered with pieces of tupperware! Great cache. Thanks.
Last find on this section of the trail. Back to where we had dropped one car before starting this section of the walk in Wonthaggi. Nic to get a big find for the last one. TFTC
Out on a beautiful sunny day to try our hand at another stretch of the rail trail with matt_geo and robber44. A big container to end this stretch of the trail for us. TFTC
We were staying in Korumburra for a couple of days with The Drovers with the main gaol of completing this rail trail and also hopefully picking up a few challenge caches.
Today's start was much better than yesterday's weatherwise with nice clear skies and although it was very windy it was to our advantage as it was a tail wind all the way.
Again wee had a fantastic time finding some unusual containers and with no DNF's we can say what a ball we had again.
Many thanks Gonefishen07 for not only the trail but for all the work and effort that you have put into the hides.
We apologise for the generic log but are leaving a favourite point on each one to show our appreciation.
We signed the smaller logs with our initials TD TC

Met up with Team Crackers for 2 days, to tackle the Rail Trail and a few local caches.
Day 2 and back on the bikes again. The weather was windy but sunny - very different to yesterday.
We found a good variety of hides, with the odd one being a little tricky.
This is a fantastic trail, and we award each one a favourite point.
Many thanks for placing this cache, Gonefishen07, for us and others to find.

Been meaning to do a few of these rail trails caches for sometime now, got the kids out on their bikes and found a few, TFTC ; )
Travelling around Australia in our Caravan with our cat, today Mr Felix headed out on the GeoBike to tackle some more of the rail trail.
Knowing that some of these micro's were to be evil not a lot of hope was held for a numbers run today.
Happy New Year! Well seems every muggle from here to Melbourne was out walking or riding the rail trail today. . It was a struggle but somebody had to do it. .
Beautiful day and the rain held off. An amazing series you have created here. So much hard work and effort has gone into constructing then of course to maintain too. Great work.
TFTC Looking forward to meeting other geocachers at the next Australian Geocaching Mega event

Spottef from the path but how to get to it?
Out for a days caching while staying in the area. I decided to enjoy the solitude of a long walk with lots of caches. My aim is to get to Wonthaggi.

Found! I circled around and scratched my head thinking where this one could be. Lightly covered but still covered well. The bang, loved the LARGE container. I took a photo of myself with it but won't spoil it for other. Hard to get the lid off, had to hold it between my tired legs.
The day started for me at 7:25am & I finished at 5:29pm in Wonthaggi. I had the most enjoyable time seeing plenty along the way & enjoyed the variety of cache hides & containers. A brilliant effort and I thank the CO for the most enjoyable day out!
TFTC A favourite from me!

Having an RDO off today I'm out chasing some BIG caches but grabbing the odd smaller or specials along the way.
Nice short walk for a quick find. Cache in good order.
Thanks for the cache Gonefishen07

Last one on our family holiday to wongthaggi/Cape Patterson. Couldn't find app was playing up getting dark and our ride was approaching. We shall come again
Geo Hubby did a section of the Rail-trail today while , I walked in another area.
We found a variety of caches some hard, micro's in the bushes are always a worry. Some very cleverly hidden.
Thanks for placing this cache Gonefishen07

We headed out from Wongathi to do more of the rail trail making sure we were heading in the right direction so that the strong wind was pushing us along rather than us having to ride into it. Lots of creative and interesting hides and a really pleasant trail. This was one of the caches we targetted and were able to find. Thanks to Gonefishen07 for the enormous effort that has been put in to enhance of enjoyment of this caching experience.
Out on the bike again with Bruce finding a few more caches along the rail trail. Started at the coal mine hoping to catch a tail wind back to Powlett River. Today we found another 34 caches mostly fairly easy finds with a few tricky micros in the bush. Tip, not all micros are small. Unfortunately we had a few dnf's today, it seemed these were mostly in areas where some cleaning up has taken place and maybe the caches have been taken as well. All up a good day of caching and some exercise to boot. Thanks to Gonefishen07 for hiding this cache.
Melbourne parties Friday noon and returned Tuesday morning in Melbourne. I came here to make different trail of caches in the area. It was intense few days with my bike but very nice! I could find caches with superb camouflage, very good ideas from the cachers. This log will be the same for all caches that I made (sorry) But I want to congratulate in particular:
Nut bear & BorisB & Natasha for "Bay Trail" and "Red Hill Express" (Beautiful cover!)
The Three Amigos Geo for "The Pathway"
Gonefishen07 for the great "Rail Trail"
As well as other geocacher who I discovered several caches during these few days.
Thank you very much
Greetings from France
I will be at Mega event with my friend who just especially France also "Ckronos"

Found on our "Making Memories" Tour of Mainland Australia.
Today we explored Wonthaggi and surrounds using geocaching as our guide.
We found a total of 51 caches and this was one of them. Our 27th cache of the day - How did that get here?
As we progressed along the trail we were impressed by the variety of hides and the creative use of containers. Some we found quickly and others needed a little more investigation before they revealed themselves.
Thanks Gonefishen07 for taking the time to place and maintain these caches for our enjoyment. We really appreciate the effort gone into these creative and inventive hides. A great days caching and one we will remember.

Adopted a pushbike for mobility and had great success. Parked car at Lower Powlett Rd and proceeded from there. This was first 'bike' find.
Helped Gonefishen07 with the maintenance run along here. They are all good to go now with nice new logs. We gave this one a clean out.
Found 2:26:00 PM, during our epic Anderson (and beyond) to Wanthaggi, rail trail adventure, which involved a distance of 51.36 km, ten hours twenty five and a half minutes in and out of the saddle [xx(] and 103 cache finds It also gave BB#2 an ideal arena in which to test her new 29'er
TNLN, thanks Gonefishen07.
TNLN, thanks Gonefishen07.
Thank goodness, this was a nice quick and easy one because my feet were getting particularly sore and I still had to go all the way back to the car. TNLN as everything is a bit wet except for the log.

Day 4 of wilco and red tag's Moto GP tour of Melbourne.
Today we finished off all but a few of the rail trail series. There were a couple of DNFs, and a couple that we couldn't really search for as a result of too many muggles. The trail obviously gets more use on a weekend (today is a Saturday), and the Wonthaggi areas were busier too. Again we had another beautifully sunny day.
We elected not to search for this cache due to the LARGE BROWN SNAKE that was sunning itself on the side of the track and disappeared into the grass directly towards GZ.

Made the quick find then road back to the bus to bring it around for the next section.TFTC
Found co-ordinates but long spring grass growth and previously seen snake put us off venturing off the track! I know ... we chickened out! Didn't think to bring rent-a-pet to scare dangerous wildlife away.
Found while walking along the rail trail first from Anderson to Woolamai. I started at 6.30pm at Anderson just to grab a few Caches, but before I knew it it was 10.30pm and I had reached the end of the line at Woolamai and then had to walk up hill back to the roundabout. The walk back only took an hour.
I Returned from Melbourne the next day to Wonthaggi to continue the series. Starting at the information centre around 11.00am and reaching the State Coal Mine about 1.30pm returning to Wonthaggi just after 2.00pm and then home to Melbourne.
A week after first starting the series I started my attack from Kilcunda at 7.00pm walking towards Anderson and returning to Kilcunda around 11.30pm. I then continued walking from Kilcunda towards Wonthaggi. After crossing the trestle bridge at Kilcunda I made it as far as Mouth of Powlett Rd before returning to Kilcunda before 1.00am.
I then drove back to the information centre at Wonthaggi at continued walking back towards Kilcunda. I only made it as far as South Dudley Rd before 2.00am. then I thought it best to return to the car and to a caravan park that was booked earlier.
The next morning I continued the hunt from South Dudley rd at 8.00am walking to Mouth of Powlett Rd by 11.45am returning to the car at South Dudley Rd at 1.30pm having completed the rail trail in both direction and walking approximately 55km.
I would now like to take the time to thank “Gonefishen07” very much for the effort put into this fantastic series of Caches also the wide and varying types of Cache containers and great camouflage.
There was Lots of great hides which were good and easy finds as well as a few that had me searching for a while due to some very sneaky and clever ideas.
Most co-ords were very good which was very much appreciated because I often said to myself trust the GPS and then would find the cache bang on the co-ords.
I have also decided the hides are much easier to find during the day rather than at some ungodly hour of the night via torch light, though the trade off is I did not see a single Muggle at night yet the sections completed during the day I had to be careful due to lots of Muggles and their 4 legged friends.
I hope to return to pickup the few DNF’s soon although agreeing with some previouse logs some of the DNF’s I suspect have been Muggled or removed by recent works at the Cache locations.
Again thanks to “Gonefishen07” for a great series
