Found on day one of a 1160km, two-day road trip around the central North Island, targeting Geotour caches.

Another skindo hall multi found, and my most northerly skindo cache (so far). Puzzle easy to work out, and final on the way back to SH1. Logsheet a little crumbly, but still fine. All good here, and TFTC.

Another good trip up these side roads finding other caches belonging to you. All good - especially as it is such a sunny day. Thanks for the cache Skindo.

8 August 2021 11:12. Travelling the backroads with my better half, heading up to Taihape avoiding SH1. Wondered if this would be still possible, and it was. Info clearly legible, calculation straightforward and the cache in fine condition when I got to the final. TFTC Skindo, still loving your work

We soon gathered the required information and the cache was then a quick easy find a short drive away. TFTC

On a caching adventure with gorby, on our way to Taihape for some dinner, after a busy day of finding caches Big Grin

A few calculations and the cache was soon retrieved from this cool hiding place.

Thanks for the hide skindo, and bringing me here.

I have made an impromptu decision to stay the night in Taihape, what a fun decision that was! Have booked into Rusty Nail Backpackers with rustynz (how appropriate) and her son and now while I wait for rusty to actually arrive in Taihape I came here for a multi (part of a challenge I'm doing at the moment). I love these old halls, a shame there isn't the same old community spirit around anymore.

Only took a moment to suss out the requirements and did the math while sitting in my car, then off to the final and back to the backpackers for dinner.

Heading back to Wellington from the Waikato today with some time for some caching - yay! It's not often I find a skindo cache nowadays, I don't think there are many of his left that I haven't already found. I'm not sure how I missed this one over the years but anyway I called here today, got a good set of coordinates pretty quickly, and found the cache fairly quickly also. Signed log, TFTC

First find of the day. I abseiled off the bridge years ago and wandered down the gorge for an adventure, it was great but really cold.

On our way home from a 6 day geocaching adventure. Auckland and Taranaki. Saw this and look a nice easy multi. And it was. Nice spot for a final. Tftc

On a road trip with squirrel nutcase and Gap of Fay & Gap - having to travel quite a way for them to get new caches. It is great to be along for the drive enjoying the views and having lots of fun. Enjoy looking at the old halls and feeling the history of these areas. Didn't take too long to do the sums and pick up the cache TFTMC

first find of the day, it very much feels like winter and a small amount of heat in the sun, thanks for the placement this is one I have tried a couple of time with getting the answer wrong.

Off on a drive to Palmy North, grabbing some easy driveby's on the way. Thanks.

On My Way Home For Christmas part 2, after having spent nearly a week in Palmerston North, now I am heading for Rotorua. Thought I would tackle the remaining green spludges along the main road up. Started after dinner (or when dinner would have been - frankly, I wasn't hungry). Hope to get to the Desert Road before nightfall.
The sign that we had to read was a long way away, but I managed to read it from the road side, without having to get out and wander the long grass. Got the numbers and on the second attempt that matched t he checksum, so I plugged them in, got a sensible location, and headed off. Hey look - geotrail! Awesome! Five minutes later I don't think it's here. Missing? Back down to the road, and ahh - what about the usual suspects? Bingo!
Merry Christmas and a cachey New Year!

On my way from Ohakune to Palmy North, I wanted to find some caches along the way. I haven't found any multi in NZ, so today was the first attempt. After I pulled over at the Hall, I saw a neighbour starting to have special attention for me. But after I did the maths he went on with his small fire. At GZ I found the cache easily. Thanks for hiding!

On a weekend mission with Cats&Dragons, for a bit of a numbers run along the new trails around the Northern Manawatu area, and anything else along the way. As usual these types of trips mean maximizing caching time and minimizing sleep time. So with a 2am start time Saturday morning we left home and headed South, and not getting back home til 8.30pm Sunday night. Some numbers for the trip as I know we all like caching stats are:
* 1450km traveled.
* 286 caches found (192 on Saturday, 94 on Sunday) with only 3 DNF's
* 4 hours sleep
* With a 3 hour each way drive to the Caching area, so about 32 hours of caching in the 42 hours we were away at an average of nearly 9 caches per hour, this isn't including stopping for fuel and coffee!!!

So a huge thanks to all the CO's for the placements, and for the reason to see some more of our wonderful country, we saw some pretty amazing places. Sorry for the copy and paste logs. We signed the log books HKCD, or HKCBC&D.

Took us a moment or two to figure out what was needed (reading all of the description at the start would of helped), I'm putting it down to the early start and the need for coffee. No troubles though once we got started and no issues with the paperwork at the other end.

Today it was time to leave the Manawatu after our short camper caching holiday. First we looked for caches to do on the next leg of the journey, and spotted the 39 South Latitude Challenge. We checked and realised we only had 3 numbers missing, so made the rash decision to make detours on our way home so we could collect caches to fill the final 3 minutes.
By the time we reached Ohutu Hall we had filled two of these minutes (at the Pukeora Falls and the Whitecliffs boulders). We were very pleased that the final minute did not take us too far off our intended route. We had no problem getting the final coords for this multi, and were again happy that it was not too far distant. Quick find once at GZ, thanks. All minutes for the 39 South Latitude now completed.

#3206. Heading north on a holiday with the family and had time to stop for a few caches on the way. This one was the third of the day. First time I have been up this side road. Located the hall and the found the information fairly easy to acquire (did have to move the head slightly to see one letter!) Spent a few minutes working out the codes. But poor copying on my behalf meant I stuffed up the checksum on the first attempt so Mrs GSEL did it properly and soon we were off to the GZ. Was able to park very close by and had the cache in hand in seconds. All dry inside. Replaced the cache as found. Thanks for hiding it here. Some impressive scenery in this region.

Wow! What a view. Definitely worth the side trip! Thanks for bringing us here.

This was a quick dash in and out. Soon had the business done. Wow, the bridge over the river did make my heart beat! Took a photo but will upload that once home from the Mega. TFTC

23-Oct-16
We found the little hall ok. But on travelling to it we crossed the bridge and we saw the most amazing gorge below the bridge. So we had to stop And we took photos of the gorge with the very vertical sides. Very great to see and I will post these later. So on up to the hall and gathered the necessary info'. And then located the cache site and went to it!.... Many thanks for showing us this truly wonderful gorge! And the cache and another smiley face.

Thanks skindo for this enjoyable and straight forward multi. A stunning final location too! This one deserves more visitors.

Nice quick find exactly where it should be, thanks for the multiple and smiley

Right that's it. It's getting dark, cold, people are starting to look at me funny and I'm still miles from home. Good multi and easy find at final location. TFTC

I had just moved to Taihape yesterday and today had been allocated to touring around the countryside. This was the first for the day.

Cheers for the cache.

Sat in the car and solved this. Walked over bridge to get to final. A very long way down. TFTC

Another find on the great north summer roadtrip with the Banians- a week of travel from Wellington to Auckland via Napier, Wairoa, that secluded road between Wairoa and Rotorua, and almost the Coromandel peninsula.

A final cache for the day- coords quickly found and entered, and a quick find. Saw a deceased cow at the bottom of the gorge- but happily didn't see a cache down there. TFTC

06-Dec-15
Last cache for the day, its taken far too long to get from Wellington to Taihape.
Quick stop at hall to work out the co-ordinates, then off to GZ, cache soon found. SL TFTC.

#7307. It turned out to be a sunny day for exploring Taihape. No problem finding the hall and the information. It was all quiet at GZ when we visited. Quick find. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Easy little multi bringing us to an interesting spot. We too were surprised to come across the deep narrow gorge - in fact a slot gorge, as we had learnt about earlier in the day doing the Earthcache at Tree Trunk Gorge. Thanks for bringing us here. Gets a favourite for that.

Cache 29 of 42 - Out with Tommygun9 & Spudnz on an afternoon excursion to the mountains. Got to experience a lot of different climates on today's adventure.. Rain, hail, sun, wind and even a bit of snow thrown in for good measure! Got the required co ords sorted fairly quickly then off to the final. Very cool area that I suspect half the people driving down the highway would'nt even know existed! Cheers FTC!

12-Nov-14
Off on an afternoon geocaching mission with tommygun9 and hunterhillson. It was truly a 'four seasons in one day' excursion. It started with heavy hail followed by a torrential rain, driving wind and eerily quiet snow falling on the desert road. The sun even made an appearance on occasions. We found between 25 to 45 caches each and finished with an unlikely first to find back in my hometown.
We took a slight detour on the way south to pick up this multi. Worked out the final location easily enough and headed off to find the cache. What I found was a massive canyon that I had always assumed was a generic river. Thanks for bringing me to this spot and thanks for the cache and the smiley.

12-Nov-14
Reading the cache page I thought "this must be a..." scrolled up and yes, as suspected it's a classic Skindo cache.
WOW that's one deep canyon one crosses to get to this hall! I, like the rest of my party, had always assumed this was a normal river, but nope it's quite impressive. I attempted to get a few photos on the bridge between cars but I'm not sure how they've come out.
The information was gathered easily (with much use of the alphabet song and fingers) before we headed off and grabbed the cache. I quickly logged it and then it was back south.
T F T Multi Skindo.

Needed to do an event cache to get our August souvenir challenge. Problem was, where is an event cache close by. Mrs Fap found one 300km away in Kimbleton, there appeared to be nothing closer. Phoned Squirrel Nutcas who was a keen starter so Kimbolton it was. All this way so planned to pick up a few more on the way. Left Rotorua at 6am and back home by 8.30pm with 58 caches found, not a bad day at all.

Weather a bit damp today but did not need to spend too much time out in it.

Had solved this ages ago and have only just got around to finding it, almost forgotten where it was hidden. Interesting place to stop for a look over the edge. TFTC.

Xmas day dot day crossed off thanks to this nice and easy multi.
Answered the questions and headed off to GZ. Followed a geotrail which I suspect is actually a toilet trail!
Back at normal level and with the clue the cache was soon in hand

My mega NZ MEGA 2013 Trip!! Split into two halves - first, the journey up, and then the second half was the actual MEGA time.

This was the first half. I ended up deciding that the best way to travel up for the MEGA was by doing a rental relocation. Jucy had FAR too many cars in Chch that needed going to Auckland, and so with the pick of the crop I went for the 4WD... naturally, being a cacher, I knew this would come in handy!
They paid the vehicle on the ferry, paid the insurance, and gave me a free tank of gas as well as 5 days to get up to Auckland! What more could you want?!!
This was my 198th cache of the trip.

Sorry about the mostly copied logs - but otherwise I would still be logging till Christmas - and that's Christmas 2014 I mean! Haha.

Ah, halls... hahaha. Thanks heaps for bringing my multi count up!!! Smile

TFTC!! Smile

A MEGA Adventure

Both Nova Lightning and myself had set ourselves caching targets that we were hoping to meet in time for the NZMEGA in a few weeks. So with a plan in progress and fuel in the tank away we set.
Departed home at 6pm Friday, returned home 3.30pm Monday, 7 hours sleep approx 470 caches and a great adventure.

Thanks to all those that have placed caches especially Skindo as I think we gave his caches a bit of a nudge

Thanks for a great weekend of Caching and Bull.

Mega Weekend

It all started about a month ago when Cats&Dragons brought up the idea of heading down the line to collect 350+ caches. We both had targets that we wanted to meet before attending the NZ Mega. Plans and locations were drawn up and puzzles were begun to be solved. It took me a while to get my head around a few of the puzzles and with the help of a cacher I was soon on a roll.

The weekend finally came and we departed Hamilton at 6pm on a Friday night. 3days, 2,000km, & 11hrs sleep, later 472 caches collected. Thanks to all those who's caches I found especially Skindo with a huge number laid.

Great views as we detoured off the highway. Just had to stop for photos on the way back from the cache. Will add later. T4TCSL

Bypassed this on the way north on Friday as we wanted lunch! Worth the effort remembering this today on the way home, particularly the views of the gorge as we drove in and out. Spectacular and unexpected depth which led to inevitable photographs being taken. Little blue hen became centre of attention to a ute with half a dozen farm dogs who drove by while she was taking photos of the gorge. Cache itself an easy multi but worth a favourite for making us detour over the gorge. TFTCSL

A quick cache-dash diversion on route to Foxton.

Introduced a friend to caching today with this one. Found the hall and made the calculations. The check sum confirmed we had the right coords for the final. Progressed from solution to cache in hand in a matter of minutes. Would not have dared to pull off the main road previously, but this was worth it. TFTC.

A nice we multi and a good spot for the final. Enjoyed our little side trip, pity we didn't get time to go down Gorge Rd as well but we wanted to get back to Taihape and do the caches there before the cricket started at 7pm. Next time!

Parked up near the start of this multi for the night, besides the trains and trucks heard in the distance it was a good spot. Rained steadily overnight but by morning had slowed to a light drizzle. Nice quick solve this morning and then off to final. Mr Geckoh had slight brain fade when signing the log and forgot to put the date on! TFTC
