I visited this site a number of years ago when the tree was still standing and decided to return at a later date when properly equipped. I return a few weeks ago after a bird watching walk nearby to find the tree had fallen. Unfortunately I had no luck finding the cache even noting some of the previous log comments. Today I'm back again after another bird watching walk in the Dandenong North Wetlands. Again the search was fruitless until I was about to return to the car when I spotted a possibility - the container - at last! With the tree fallen no longer a T4 but still great to make the find. Thanks to Splad for the cache.
Kangaroo poo everywhere be warned. The cache was definitely at a different level than initially thought.
Wohoo, found it! Was almost about to walk away as often is the case.Smaller and much lower than expected.Obvious when you see it. More under than expected. Thankfully we can walk away with a smilie.TFTC
TFTC! 20 January 2024 6:06:18pm 7112 thanks to Splad_ for the cache! 2nd or 3rd lucky here, as we attempt while in the precinct for sport. Never had luck. But after todays game we attempted and eventually made the find! Shame the lovely treee has come down!
After 2 km walk along the trail I was determined to find this elusive and I must admit when I saw the cones preconceived ideas came to mindIt took a while but it popped upThanks for the smile
Umm - parked near this cache as I was chasing a nearby multi-cache, but it appears the tree is an ex-tree. Not sure if its safe so will stay on terra firma.
I love the random phone calls I get when I'm at work. "Do you want to come and climb a tree with me? Well, climb a tree, but not really?" asks Snips and Co down the phone."Yeah, sure, why not?" I had already assumed it was geocaching related. And so I found myself in a paddock with S&Co, plus some random golfer practising his pitching wedge, plus a dead Skippy over yonder. We circled the tree, did a quick scramble, but luckily S&Co came up with the goods rather quickly. Thanks Splad for bringing us here to this huge paddock and for the hide. Cache on!
Inspired by [@ahomburg](http://coord.info/PR12BY5) 's Challenge caches that I just signed, I thought I better start on at least filling the grid and then honing down to the specific challenges. This little combo caught my eye today, and reading the logs I didn't know if it would last much longer. A quick message to LetThemEatCache - Are you coming, do you need this one? Yes and yes. Excellent! After work, we drove down. I had left my apartment in a hurry, in fact, I still had my ugg boots on (hiking boots in the back). I had to laugh as we arrived, LTEC pointed to GZ and said "Don't worry Nicole, you can leave your uggies on." So I did. We pottered about for a bit, climbed up, climbed down, walked around and around. It took a little search but in the end we found it. Yay!Thanks Splad for the cache.
This is one beautiful tree that is sadly dying. Such a shame as its magnificent and so where the roos
Not sure how much longer this grand old tree is going to last now that it has fallen so thought we should have another look after two previous DNF's. Found at what would have been about my eye level after a very short search.
Wouldn’t suggest I reached for the sky comments help me to find what I was looking for
Wow what a beautiful tree in a magnificent area. Such a peaceful and lovely place fav point for the beauty of it
Had us searching everywhere for it, even contemplating a HUGE climb to a suspiciously hanging pinecone but we decided it couldn't be so we made our searches elsewhere. TFTC

I'm out with kbucky today to find some great caches around the area and this was one of them after going up in out around & under kbucky spotted this elusive cache extremely happy to add my signature to this cache...TFTC
We arrived near GZ and started chatting with the golfers, who are very sad this spectacular tree was a victim of the insane winds.
They went on their way and we commenced our search. Ah but where to start? A little climbing? A little poking? Reading past logs. GZ has moved. Found with aid of torch.
Even though dying, this tree is still spectacular.
tftc Splad - great spot. thanks for making our geocaching adventure more special with this well placed hide in a lovely location.

Tiz13 is always on a mission and today was no different. Her mission for this morning was to collect this cache and a few golden oldies before attending a nearby event. But finding this cache wasn't as easy as I thought it was going to be..I did climb this magnificent beast.. that suprisingly is still clinging on to life. After a good 30 minute search the blighter cache was found. The question of it's original hiding spot was pondered but not for long.
this tree does not look well
we do not know much about botany
we can barely tell a spruce from a eucalypt
but
here we are confident enough to give a brief yet confident medical opinion:
this tree does not look well
admittedly, there are probably few trees that will thrive at a forty-five degree angle
with most of their rootstock flailing in the breeze
and their canopy slowly morphing from green to dry brown
this is not a job for some fertiliser and a watering can
this tree needs some rope and a crane
we fear this fine tree is near its end
so
if you are going to visit, visit soon
come pay your respects

3rd time looking for this one and the second time since the tree has been knocked down. With a few recent finders I had a bit more confidence that it was still there. Since I was in the area getting a geocache, I made sure I parked here so I could take a look again. Not sure how long it is going to last because at some stage the council will remove this tree. The leaves are starting to show signs that the tree is dieing. Pretty quick find this time and I didn't spend my time climbing all thru the top of the tree.
Thanks for the cache Splad

This cache took a while to find. I relied on some past logs, and tree climbing is not required as suggested. I also had a tool handy for getting the cache out of its spider-protected space. Thanks for adding this one here. I'm not sure how long it'll last, given the tree's current state.
I climbed the tree and found nothing. I read previous logs, which set me straight. This is the type of tree climb I like, the standing on the ground tree climb. The cache is hidden much lower down than I expected, however I had to look hard to find it.
After KdosVerH123 and I searched for this one for a while all over the tree, I finally spotted it after maybe 15 minutes.
Understood others notes about wearing gloves but I didn’t have any so I just plunged my bare fingers into the darkness and prayed.
All turned out well and the log was signed and replaced.
One note is this should be listed as a micro.

A bit disappointingly low down. Do not try to reach for the suspicious hanging pinecone (it is not there and a dangerous climb). Didn’t like the spiders. Terrain is a bit off. About eye level and can be grabbed from ground
Due to unforeseen circumstances Mr Smokey Bear will no longer be a part of Team Smokey Bear and will continue his adventures as "SmokeyBearOG".
So I'm relogging all previous finds under my new account.
Unfortunately this log will not show the original logging date.

Out on my own today checking out this lovely commemorative tree. Local cyclist stopped to give me all the info. Is bit worried is going to be chopped up for mulch. Did the mount easy to climb could not find though checked out a lot of options no joy today
We novos have spent the last few days in the eastern suburbs of Melbs over the xmas period, visiting family and friends from our home on the NSW central coast. Last night we spent NYE on St Kilda beach watching the fireworks with a bunch of our dearest friends and the army of kids. We all used to hang out in the naughties as young marrieds way before all the kids came along. Was a great way to see the year out.
This morning we are headed for Sorrento to grab the ferry across the bay to Queenscliff where we are meeting the two Bellarine novos for lunch, one of which recently turned 101. It's going to be a great day! However we are not off to a great start to the year with our caching as the very first search of 2023 proves to be a big fat sad face.
Ah well we shall continue south.
The tree here, while done, is very impressive and (still) very climbable! Even amidst a DNF, this game is still fun!

3 people in the fallen tree and still too good for us.

Found it BUT unfortunately this beautiful old tree had succumbed to old age and strong winds and is now laying at a 45deg angle, the cache is still gettable and is in good condition, however CO may need to attend as who now’s how long it will be there before it gets cut up and mulched.

Had a search for caches that would fill in gaps in my Phisy (P81) D/T ratings grid this morning and saw that this cache would fill one of those gaps. So the plan was to head off early after work so I would have plenty of time to search for this one.
Well of course work had other plans, as I got stuck working late. By the time I arrived at GZ the sun was already starting to set and I knew that this one was going to be tough to find in the dark. I resorted to checking the hint right away, and saw that the attribute was a tree climb and the terrain was a T4.
So I ended up scrambling up to the first branch and check around the area, but no luck. With not finding anything in the tree, I figured I'd climb back down and try to see if I could spot anything from the ground. Well I couldn't locate anything, and with the sun setting quickly I resorted to PAF. Well armed with an additional hint, the cache was located just as the sun had completely set.
Based on the the cache description, I don't think I would have ever found this one. The cache hide to me didn't match the attribute or the terrain rating. I am not sure if this is a case of cache creep or if this is what this style of terrain was back in the day. Anyways I am glad to have found this one and be one step closer to completing my Phisy (P81) D/T ratings grid! TFTC.
Cache Maintenance Status:
Cache container was in good shape and logbook was clean and dry with plenty of room for future cache finders to sign.

Logged a DNF 2 days after this cache was posted.
I have looked a number of times since then with the same result.
Its a cache that always annoyed me but now nearly 10 years later I can log a found it post.
Definitely over thought this one.
Thanks I think...... Splad

It was pretty quiet here today, a few cars in the carpark but only one couple quite some distance away with their four legged children.
Too start with I would honestly say we were trying too hard and had our expectations set far too high After a careful search around GZ I wondered to myself about a certain spot. A quick check soon revealed the cache. SSR sensibly had gloves with him so was tasked with grabbing it.

This one had up looking in all the wrong places but a good idae by the goose had a gloved hand make the easy find, thanks for the cache.
This was a long weekend of caching that we had planned to take toolman on with us when he had recovered from what his doctor call a 'tune-up' but due to a delay here and a setback there all he could manage was a catch up over coffee on Saturday morning, it's been a while so it was nice to just have a chat. In the end it was a Friday to Monday trip where myself and goose searched for a small amount of caches to help fill a few of our grids, it was a few days of mixed weather but we still had a good caching trip, thanks to all the COs.
Thanks for the cache.

Rain and climbing = trepidation but today I had a happy bingo bango moment! Sometimes we are rewarded for heading out in the rain and usually you can be assured there would be less muggles. Tftc and the fun
Man did I make that hard. Climbed the tree. Cut finger. In the end, you can't climb to GZ no matter how hard you tried.
TFTC.
We appreciate a great hidden cache.
Was a lot of fun finding.
Thanks.

Much simpler than anticipated on the terrain side -- but since it helped with filling the D/T grid, I won't complain. Thanks for hiding a cache in a lovely spot!
With the new year upon us (and a public holiday to be appropriately made use of), buhfuhguh and I made an impromptu trip to kick off a year of caching in an area ranging all the way from Scoresby to Officer.
There were plenty of finds with lots of walking to accompany them, though plenty of fun was had as always, notwithstanding the fact that I foolishly didn't apply sunscreen and ended up with a less-than-pleasant sunburn afterwards!
The D/T rating on this cache piqued the interest of both buhfuhguh and myself so we headed over and were pleased to see the only muggles in the area standing some distance away from gz.
A comprehensive search ensued and the giant soon had the tiny cache in his hands.
It was rather convenient to have someone so tall on hand - I wouldn't quite call this a T4 (and he definitely wouldn't!) but it's still an interesting combo and tricky hide nonetheless.

Another day out and about with Brainiac03 today as we go out for a very impromptu and sporadic day out caching with no real plan or guide to tell us where we are going. Just picking caches that we're nearby or interesting to keep up going. With roughly 24 found including a couple fun multis we were happy with today's work with no DNF's. A nice cool day after some swelters all in all had fun, Thanks for the cache and the little adventure

I'm a bit of a researcher, especially before going out to caches that are higher on the D/T scale, which this one is. Thanks to some careful reading I walked up to GZ and found a beautiful tree with many spots to hide a cache. Thankfully the whole area was clear so I had plenty of time to look by myself. Turns out I didn't need it as I found the cache in the first place I dared to look! Getting it out took a bit longer than expected due to my juuuust below average height. But a bit of persistence and I finally had my name on the log!
After finding this cache I decided to go for a bit of a walk in the bush nearby. It's a cloudy day today and I was starting to feel a bit creeped out in the bush when I saw someone walking in the distance. At that point I decided it was time to turn around and upon taking the fastest exit out I stumbled across some kangaroo bones. A bit of a mini panic happened until I worked out what they were. Certainly not what you want to come across when you're already freaked out haha!

2nd try looking for it. Today was better day 11.c rainy, no golf enthusiast, dog walkers or police training helicopters .
I am glad I had a disposable latex glove to wear while poking around the tree carefully. Great hidy spot

Out bike caching and navigated to this one without looking at the D/T. When I did look, I didn't hold out much hope of finding it.
A golfing muggle on site when I arrived, practicing chipping over the tree.
Surprised myself by finding in a few minutes with the help of my TOTT, namely, extendable mirror on a stick.

Found as Nicnax with PapaGrouch. This is the third or fourth time I have tried to find this cache, it was PapaGrouchs second visit, and finally we have a smiley. With a bit more information we were able to narrow down our search area, and finally get this tricky little one. It was quiet at GZ as we searched, then a few muggles appeared just as we were replacing the cache. We had considered going for a walk to find some other caches in the park, but decided to leave them for another day as we had a bit of travelling to do today. TFTC
Terrain 2.5
Found today with feet on the ground.
The hide was very tricky in deed. My favourite potential spot had lots of spiders webs so it got the wobbly stick treatment for a bit first. I had room to poke the phone camera in and hey presto. There he is.
Snug and dry with plenty of room left on the log paper. So glad i didn't climb all over it as i had expected to.
The police chopper landed near here today. Well i guess they need to stop for lunch too.

Was flying my rc planes with a muggle mate and he mentioned he’d chatted to some previous finders. He knew I was into gc and mentioned the cache. Quick find, thanks very much.
PS. Took two planes, crashed one and flew the other successfully. Good day flying with a mate after the covid lockdown. If you don’t crash you’re not trying hard enough!

This has been my nemesis cache for ~5 years. I've searched fruitlessly for it, been stopped from even looking because GZ was busy, or on some occasions GZ was being used to store equipment for local cricket games. Today I headed here on my way home with the hope that GZ would be empty and I would finally get a chance to look. Armed with a TOTT I was determined to leave no potential hide unexplored. Even the. I needed a PAF from a previous finder to narrow done options. Turns out I've probably touched the cache on more than one occasion (including today) without realising it. Argh! Anyway finally can claim the smiley here. TFTC
What’s with the planes here? Two independent parties came with their planes. We, meanwhile, were attempting to find the cache. My daughter did the dirty work but couldn’t see anything. We found someone’s reading glasses under the tree. Hung them up in a visible spot in case they come back.
This was a very tricky one and being a bit 'vertically challenged' didn't help either.
I had all but given up but my tenacious partner would not let it go.
It was there after all.
Thanks Splad.

This is a great D/T rating, but it isn't really suited to the cache...well alright maaaaybe the D rating is right as you could be looking for this for a while. We used previous logs to suss it out and eventually geomum felt and found it. Thanks Splad!!
It’s a naaaasty one! One of those that’s going to be found quickly or take ages. It’s tricky. I came down here because of the interesting DT. All signed up. The cache is dry.

Out with Crusty K9 today, and we enjoyed a walk around the Police Paddocks. We were pleased to find this cache and sign the log. Tftc.
A couple of cars in the carpark this morning but nobody close to the tree. Having read some previous logs, I figured that the attribute was not quite correct. Pleasingly, the find was a quick one. In good condition.
A long search in the wrong place, almost walked away but read some logs and the penny dropped. Replaced the very full log with a fresh one.

This mission was personal, as Na'wal had struck out here twice before !! We weren't going to leave without a smiley face today, so we set about searching in earnest. We didn't have the best start, but I soon heard those magic words. Turns out it was third time lucky for Na'wal, who found the well concealed prize. Thanks for the hunt and for bringing me here. TFTC Splad_
I was out for revenge and DAB was here to help. I have been here three times now to look for this cache and the first two times have done me. Third time lucky was the order of the day. DAB and I set out to make this cache a find. We set out and rounded the location a few times looking high and low. We passed each other as we checked every location for this one. It was when I was checking for sneaky places to hide a cache that I saw a possible hiding place and after I reached for it, I was able to feel the cache. YIPPEE! This was one that we were both happy to have found. The log is quite full but we squeezed our names on the log and replaced with a satisfactory smile on our dials here today.

I had picked up the cache down the road a bit and thought I would grab this one while in the area . Of course I hadn’t really read the cache information but as I neared the GZ it became obvious that this was going to be interesting .. I had a quick wander around without luck the started reading .. a T4 .. no thanks.. and went back to the car .. to watch the model aeroplanes and drones and half heartedly read the rest of the cache info. .. hang on .. why not? Back to the GZ .. where I was met by a couple of muggles who were there for orienteering .. I made a better effort and came up with the goods. The log is pretty full but there are plenty of spaces when you open it up a bit .. thank you to Splad for creating and placing the cache.
I had a crack at this one about a month ago with no luck - climbing up and down scurrying around the tree. I returned today because I was in the area and spent another 30mins climbing up the tree checking every nook. On reading some logs I realised that this cache may not be up the tree - what? So I changed tack and soon felt something which turned out to be the cache. Im assuming this cache has changed location since the original placement - the T4 rating was quite misleading. Anyway I had a great time climbing this tree, TFTC!

Managed to find a park close by and a Cricket Match was in progress. Cricket gear all around GZ. As everyone was on the oval we commenced the search. After a short time Geowife spotted something. Yes the cache was found. How did she see it.? Log signed and all back safe again.
Thanks

Finally got this one after being rained out once and a party at the gz. Today we found this little one hiding in a place we weren't expecting to find it. TFTC Splad
This once is a little bugger just out of reach and lots of muggles around on this hot steamy day still Zedaycee found it quite fast thanks for the cache Splad

This one had us searching in all the wrong places. But eventually a glint caught Zedaycee's eye and we soon had the new task of finding an empty spot on a very full log.
This cache was a little bugger. We got to GZ to find three men flying some planes. We searched cautiously, and after about 10 minutes, Geo-Kid #1 made the climb up the tree. Nothing prevailed. So the search was back on. One of the men then approached us and asked if we were searching. We replied with yes, and he then went on to tell us that he had found about 600, but hadn't cached in a while due to Pokemon Go. The man the helped us on our search to find this tricky cache. Just as we were about to leave, we had one more scout around the tree. Geo-Dad put his hand in the only spot we hadn't looked at, and came up with the cache. Tftc Splad
We came here a while ago to sus out the site to see what was required. Today we had some time heading home after doing some treasure finds earlier. Searching searching searching for what this little sucker may be I was giving up hope and then I thought I’ll have a closer look here with the help of Geogirl for some vertical help. And I was correct. Logbook is full but we found a spot to sign our name. Not too many people around on a quiet Sunday arvo.Glad we found it on our first attempt.

Yes there were lots of muggles flying model planes and the sky was raining down on us - we will return!
Thanks for the hunt anyway Splad_.

The muggle left just as the rain stopped, how fortunate!

This cache has being a nemesis for me, I must have being here 6 or 7 times. I have being muggled away, propositioned, had searchs which resulted in a DNF. But today I got it, although at one stage I thought I would have to walk away with another DNF, not because I couldn't find it, but rather that it had being returned rather brutally by the last player. But with some TOTT I was able to after 10 minutes get it so I could sign the log. a fav just because.
This is certainly a popular spot for drones and aeroplanes. Three times last weekend we came and had to leave but this morning the coast was clear. Having read the logs, I thought we would be in for a long search, however the geo husband made the find straight away (we never do that). Thanks so much for the cache Splad_

My second time looking here. Today I found it after about 10 mins. I couldn’t retrieve it as I was not quite tall enough. Perfect timing tim_amy turned up and being taller than me was able to retrieve it with out to much trouble.
**Thanks to Splad_ for placing this cache.**

After two previous visits to this location I returned a third time and with a bit of a hint was able to locate the cache this time. The hide is nasty and took quite some time to retrieve. Trying different tools to retrieve. Eventually managed to get it and signed log.
Didn't stand a chance of attempting this one today! There was about 20 cricketers standing right next to the tree for shade. Not an easy cache to attempt on a sunny Sunday afternoon in summer.
Apologies for the late log. My family were away on a trip to New Zealand so I planned a few evening excursions to cache after work. Having done Churchill National park the previous evening I was now trying a few a bit further to the west. I had come prepared and having parked in the nearby car park I carried my TOTT to GZ. One of my caching buddies that I did the Oxfam Trailwaker with last year had identified this as a tricky cache for someone of her diminutive stature so I had a good idea what I was up for. As it turned out it wasn’t as daunting as I expected though I consider myself lucky to spot it after a short time of looking. My ninth find of twelve on a sunny evening in this area. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables. Thanks for the cache Spladem.
Happy days with a Find after a short search. Out and about with ol mate Rangerdf TFTC
Out for the night with toolman after dropping off the washing machine at new house, nice area. TFTC
After tackling the Fright Climbs earlier in the day, another tree climb was still not out of the question. I live for this. I was here in this park last week but didn't realize there was a cache here, so I thought to come back and pick this one up.
Cheers Spladem

No luck for G of GJMMelb and me today. We called the owner, however may need more help when we get here again.
Come back again and try to beat
Finally got it we don't know why I did not see it first place. glad we got it today
Thanks Spladem

Out for the caching day with crank1. I was visiting here before that was no luck so i came back for another try so found it nicely. Thanks Spladem for the cache
This is one for perseverance, both for the hunt and the retrieval. Nice little hide. rhodie 67 made the find and Team KSBTJ the retrieval. Kind of frustrating - but a fav for a hide with a difference. TFTC.
Took us a little while to locate the cache and even longer to retrieve with geo daughter, neat hide, TFTC
Hmm, I needed this cache for my DT grid, reading the logs I was worried I was going to be here for a while. However in one of those infuriating logs to read, I had the cache in hand within minutes. TFTC Spladem
With a 3am start at the Geelong 2017 Flash Mob Simsfamily, No worries and Nevile Devil decided to continue on with visits to Werribee, Melbourne Art Centre, FairField, Lysterfield, Cranbourne and every corner of Casey just to have fun with Great company and a few laughs along the way.
After my first visit here i was determined to return and find it. With a lot of persistence the cache was finally found. yippee.
Log signed and replaced as Found.

The rating of this one caught our eye being in the area. The rain had stopped again so we headed over. Surprised to see a few muggles with there model planes as it looked like it would rain again soon. We gave it a good look around but with time getting away we caved in for a PAF and within moments of speaking had felt the cache. Sneak hide. We had certainly been close before. It took a little to get the cache out and also the log which seems to be in multiple parts. We signed the top and re hid. TFTC.

As I made my way across Victoria towards Alice Springs, I had a short list of caches I wanted to visit, and this made the list for more than one reason. Having wanted to find this one on my previous previous while passing through, I ended up rupturing my pectoralis major tendon, and so had to give it a miss. This time around, everything was intact, and so I came by today to find the area completely deserted. As I made my way around the area, I methodically made my way through the options until eventually struck gold...well...plastic. A very nifty little hiding spot.

Well this one had us doing the dosey doe dance around and around , up and down for quite sometime. After reading logs though we got a better understanding of where we should be looking and MrT put his hand right in the correct spot....hmmmm....didnt I already check there?
Thanks Spladem for the sneaky hide.

Wow, this one was super tricky. While there was an interesting TOTT nearby when we arrived, we did not require it. The coast was clear of muggles so we set about searching. We all did a few laps looking in every nook and cranny, up and down. It was eventually Mr Tritonz that made the find although Mrs Tritonz checked the spot and must have put her hand on it without realising! Thanks Spladem.

This had become my nemesis cache. Four previous visits, and 2.5 hours of cumulative search time had given me nothing but nightmares.
Today was different. Today I brought my secret weapon - 'she who can find most caches inside a minute' - Mrs Welder!! We arrived to find the reserve deserted aside from a solitary golfer. No worries. From the logs I've trawled through looking for clues, I would think that people investigating this tree are a common sight to the golfers and drone pilots that frequent this field. We searched. And searched. And searched...
I even pointlessly scaled the tree at one point out of pure desperation. Unfortunately, even Mrs Welder didn't have the required silver bullet to take out this were-cache.
After half an hour, the golfer succumbed to his curiosity. His name was Bob and in his British accent asked why people often investigate this tree. So I revealed to Bob the secret art of geocaching, lol. He loved the concept and was going home to look it up, but not until he'd helped us look for this particularly elusive cache. After 10 minutes without success he left us to it. Only now, a drone pilot had set up on the adjoining field. We continued our search regardless, and after another 15 minutes of hunting, FINALLY... I found it!!
But the struggle didn't end there. I couldn't get the log out. So we went back to the car for an extraction tool. Meanwhile, ANOTHER golfer arrived and set himself up at the tree... seriously?!
I added my name to the log, but now that there is an additional logsheet it became rather squished while putting it back into the container. So I advise the next finder to be prepared with an extraction tool.
Thanks for the ongoing challenge, Spladem!!!
A total of 4.3 'man hours' was spent searching here.
I think I'm now more familiar with this tree than I am with anything in my own garden!!
