Cordinates and hint were pointing behind a temporary fence for a building site with diggers and stuff as I had teenagers with me who wanted to climb up onto diggers decided it was a good idea to give this one a miss
Great place for a cache. Didn't realise the foundations were still sitting there abandoned. Took a little while to find the right spot
Found while on a visit to Cambridge. Out with my daughter and granddaughters. Great day. Thanks for the cache
Very sad history
We were just passing by getting some of the cluster puzzles today
Many thanks

On my way south to Rotorua for the day. Then I suddenly remembered about the cache and as I was not far from here, I did a quick turn off from HW1 and I came here again knowing the C.O. has done maintenance on this. Thanks for that and the cache was an easy find after that.
Out and about enjoying a drive in the country around Hamilton and picking up caches. Pretty good weather for it today. Nice to add some finds towards the magical creatures souvenir business. Anyway, I parked up and entered the tree line to begin the search. Tried several spots before getting the right one. Didn't take that long to track down. Cheers for this tidbit of history and for the cache placement!
i like this cache. took a bit to work out where it was but once we knew it was an easy find
I remember this day very clearly and have always disliked LPG refrigerant...this was indeed a sad day thanks for the placement kiwi69 a worthy place for a cache
I remember vividly when this happened but hadn't realised the actual location was here. Such a disastrous day for alk involved. Thanks kiwis69 for bringing us here and bringing to our attention this awful incident.
Shame I missed that! Never mind, another day when down that way, thanks for the prompt health check-up kiwis69.
Checked today after the recent DNF and found cache lying on the ground nearby, replaced nested again
I’m on a bit of a caching mission…. My 6000th cache is coming up soon and I want it to land on GC12559 Basket of Dreams in Queenstown on the 26th. So I’m doing my best to make that happen! So today I’m grabbing all the park n’ grabs I can.
I came here thinking it might be a quick park n' grab. But that was not to be. Never mind, I was here for a good 20 mins going from that tree to the other. Another day!

Today was a last attempt at getting a bunch of caches to rack up points for the planetary pursuit mission. I managed to find 15 caches, just as I was finding the last one, I found out that the challenge had been extended by a week! So i needn't have busted my ass trying to get heaps of caches the last 4 days... but at least I got my own cache total up nicely.
Around this area picking up cluster caches so pulled up to get this one too. Just as I was about to go look another car pulled up behind me, so I had to wait a while until they left. And then a bunch of kids walked past so I had to wait for them to leave too. Probably a bad time to come as I guess school had just finished. Cache was nicely nestled. Tftc

Muggles playing in skate park was a worry but fortunately GZ was further away. Nice easy find once i had the right tree.
Headed south to Tamahere and Cambridge today on an end of summer caching mission. Needed at least 10 finds to get my total finds to 100 (which was my goal for this summer). This was find #13. Bird has flown the coop so I replaced it where I thought it should be. Had to dodge a bunch of skater boys making use of the former Icepak site. TFTC!
Took abit of a search as it turned out to be on the ground. Logged it then out back at head height. No bird home today
Found it. Don't mind the farmer and his dog( obviously knows what's going on as he just gave a smile n a wave) The bird was home today didn't really bother him that we were thr. TFTC
TFTC, first find of the day. Signed log under the weary eye of a half grown baby blackbird in its nest.
Found with Spudge. We think the birds nest may be where the cache is supposed to be (we also found it on the ground) so had to find a slightly different spot for the cache. TFTC
Up from Palmy for the school holidays. We also found this lying on the ground but not before a noisy pukeko came screaming out of the bushes and scared the s@#t out of me! It then started charging at us while screeching noisily which made us look like we were killing it! As I was trying to balance the cache back in the hide while shooing the pukeko away a walker gave us odd looks so I was pleased to finally get out of there. Such a sad story here. I remember watching it on the news TFTC
I have set myself a challenge for this year to have at least the same number of caches on each day of my calender as the number of years I have been caching.
Today the target is eleven. This is the second for the day. Logbook a tad damp, just able to make my mark.
Cheers for the cache.

Found it. Nice easy find. A fine weta specimen playing "kaitiaki" (guard) over the cache. Thanks for the reminder of the event. Geokid learnt something about our local history. Cache needs some love. Log very wet I was not able to sign.
Easy find...had a few dead cockroaches and such in it that were half rotten...very smelly... cleaned it out the best we could, with what we had in the car. Left a wee colourful swappable. Thanks for cache
Dropped a trackable closer to home. If its still there next time we go o a trip we will take it with us.
A very quiet spot and certainly a sombre remainder. After locating the cache we went in search of the memorial stone too. Thanks for the interesting cache info.
Right in our back yard. Didn't have anything on us to swap will revisit another day.
Had a day of geocaching with Nahkins. I had worked out what roads 12 caches were on. Had to miss one out as when we got there a cycle race was on at GZ. Got 9 smiles and 2 DNF. It was quite windy but the sun did shine. #9. This was just far enough from the cycle race based at the school that we could do this one. I found this easy. The container was on the ground not at head height. Have put it back at head height. Very hard to conceal it though. Didn't get to see the monument. Too many muggles.
Had a day of geocaching with NZPatoto, who did the driving. Total of 12 caches were on. Had to miss one out as when we got there a cycle race was on at GZ. Got 9 smiles and 2 DNF. It was quite windy but the sun did shine. #9. NZPatoto found this one. I was to busy trying to imagine the building when it was there. Never ceases to amaze me that foundations always look smaller than the finished building. I can still remember seeing the smoke in the sky the day it burnt down (I'm in Te Awamutu) Looks at though skate boarders have made good use of the concrete floors but someone has forgotten to take their couch home with them. TFTC.
Day 10 of our Mega Roadtrip. The cache was jammed in here and the log was soaking. We removed the old log and added a new replacement. Thanks for the smilie
Interesting history that goes with this cache. Love the school fence nearby. TFTC Log is wet so just put initials on it
Just a quick find on the way home on a cold afternoon. I remember driving past this on the afternoon it seemed to explode and catch fire...what a sad day. Tftc
Found this one on a geocaching day with Vinnie. Quite an eerie spot! Found cache and also lots of bugs!
Needs new log. Thanks for the cache!

Man coming here brought back some crazy memories! I was 9 years old and I went out into the driveway of my dad's house in hillcrest and very near was the biggest plume of smoke I've ever seen. Later that day we drove past on SH1 the smoke, flames and heat was immense. I remember being scared as hell as we drove past because the flames were quite close to the Road. Sooooo much respect for the firefighters and other helpers who helped save, and in some cases paid the ultimate sacrifice for the workers here. Unbelievable bravery. Tftc
Does have an eerie feeling! 2nd one for day on way to Rotorua I wanted to stop here and do this one so sad TFTC
Found this cache some time ago and never logged. Back in the area to find some more and remember the history here well. Thank you.
Just down the road from the kid's school. We had been talking about the fire last night and seeing we are brand new at this I was amazed when I saw your cache at the site. Found it relatively easily when I worked out the pitto bit. Kid had left me to it and managed to fall down the skateboard ramp and get splinters in his bum...ended up a very funny adventure! Thanks Kim
Last find of the day and it was made quickly and cleanly.
Nearby skaters didn't take notice of me, quickly signed and back into the air conditioned car.
Thanks kiwis69

#184. Process of elimination? Nah, not really, just a matter of finding GZ before school's out. Tftc.
There were a few youngsters skateboarding, it being school holidays and all, but they were far enough away to allow me to search without being noticed. TFTC.
Yes I do remember this. So sad and sure was a dark day. nice wee find while close by thx.
What can I say? It WAS a dark day for the people of this area - and still very fresh in many people's minds. Thanks for bringing me here- it is easy to forget, when you are not from the area. tftc
Took a bit of searching but I finally found it.
I was there the day this unfolded and stayed well into the night doing my bit, sadly though this was a night that took a very long time to get over for many people and I'm glad to see that this land is still undeveloped. I like that the local lads have set up a skateboard park here and they are often spotted doing their thing in the weekends.

Last one for the day, I recall the event but didn't realise it was here. Cache was on ground so re-hid as per hint, however I'm not sure how long it will stay there. Dropped of a geocoin. TFTC kiwis69, #7752
We remember the day of the fire and driving right past from Hamilton to Cambridge. The thick black smoke could be seen for miles around - it was a sad day. RIP to the brave firefighter who lost his life. TFTC it was a reasonably quick find.
When I found the cache it was waist height in a Pitto... thinking that the cache has suffered from cache creep I signed and replaced it as the hint suggested. T4tc
Found this one today. Thanks for the history lesson and this site is eerie. I also met the local farmer today who is aware of the cache but has never found it himself. Cache is lower in position than hint indicates. Log signed.
Thanks for the cache.
Thanks for the cache.
