Dino was doing his soccer game near Red Hill and with the new AL out there was yet another reason to do a loop on this glorious hill and enjoy the increased heart rate and the views with the nice weather. Some path here today that I definatly have not done before. I keep on forgetting to do this some time form the top, since I was at the sattle with same spare time I walked to it from below and read the description along the way. A bit more overgrown that it maybe used to be, the sign is still readable and all other answers were collected and will go off to the CO. Thank you Cankid for putting the cache out, maintaining it and contributing to this great hobby we have. Happy trails, Flintstone's

In the process of doing my bit to add to the Cosmic Quest score, I am out finding earthcaches. This was the second of two that I picked up on Red Hill after work this afternoon. It was a glorious afternoon, with the wattle blossoming and the breeze blowing and the sun lowering between the clouds. While I was taking notes, another lady came and climbed up on the fence to take a photo of the sunset. Thanks for this cache, Cankid

Kolour and I organised a long weekend in Canberra to catch up with the great Domsky duo. Of course there was much caching to be done as well!We spent our last day in Canberra focused on some oldies, virtuals and challenges. Unfortunately the skies were not as clear as they had been over the weekend, however, that was not going to stop us.Thanks Cankid for bringing us here.

05-Aug-24
Im visiting Canberra from Brisbane with Willis007 for a long weekend with Domsky, targeting mainly oldies and challenges. This is my first time geocaching in the ACT. Domsky was busy today so we hired a car to finish off finding our target caches, this being one of them. Luckily the rain held off for our walk to the waypoints where we found what was needed, though one was a bit confusing. My answers have been sent to the CO. A nice view and it will be great when the restaurant renovations have finished. TftEC

It's been a while since I've done a proper bike ride, so today I equipped the water bladder, proper backpack, properly pumped up the tires, and out I go!After riding up another killer hill, I turned my attention to the two earth caches located up here.A variety of waypoints to explore for this one, which my legs weren't the biggest fan of! (mostly from the blackberries).Answers collected gradually, some interesting geology here! (As indicated by the two earthcaches located within close proximity of each other!)Answers sent via the messenger system. Thanks for placing this earthcache Cankid!

Found by The Empire + HPerched atop the southern reaches of the city, Red Hill boasts commanding vistas of the surrounding landscape, making it a popular destination for locals and visitors alike seeking breathtaking scenery. As we ascended the gentle slopes of Red Hill, we were greeted by a landscape rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage. The walking trails meandered through groves of eucalyptus trees and native shrubs, creating a tranquil atmosphere conducive to leisurely exploration and contemplation.Arriving at the summit, we were rewarded with sweeping views that stretched across the city skyline, encompassing landmarks such as Parliament House, Lake Burley Griffin, and the distant peaks of the Brindabella Ranges. Visiting Red Hill provided a fascinating glimpse into the geological history of the Australian Capital Territory. As we explored the area, we were struck by the diverse range of geological formations that characterise this region. Thanks for the earthcache Cankid.-MEarthcache #427

The Cockburn Crew are on tour at the Capital Geobash in Canberra - travelling from Perth to Sydney, Canberra, Sydney and finally back to Perth.Today was day 3 and we had an absolute blast, after an earlier night last night we got up early to head to Yass and the surrounding areas to cleanup a bunch of caches inparticular whereigos and our personal favourite the challenge caches. We stopped in Yass and completed some high quality caches before venturing back to the trails. We completed a huge number of trails, challenges, whereigos, traditional, multis, earthcaches, labs, virtuals and puzzles. It really was a great day for variety. We enjoyed caching in territory we havent been before. Weve filled our boots with some rare DTs and DTTs and generally had a great time. Thanks to the COs for a great day and event. Logs signed as part of team WA/WAC (WA Crew)

Exciting times over the next couple of weeks as we takeoff for the Capital GeoBash in Canberra! Its going to be a flood of Sandgropers over east, with a host of West Aussies making the trek east for the event. Im travelling with fellow Cockburn Crew members Leg5 and Barnzy12, starting in Sydney and hitting the road to Canberra, before returning back to Sydney. Honourary mention to our fellow member, Cravo10, who couldnt make it after recently introducing a new geocacher to the world the week prior. Once in Canberra, the agenda is set, well team up with a host of Western Australians to conquer caches. Collectively, were hoping to make it the biggest ever weekend for cache finding. Following the event, the journey continues back to Sydney, with a mission to clean up caches and new Local Government Areas (LGAs), ensuring no cache is left unturned in this epic geocaching adventure. Something tells me that well need a holiday after this, well, holiday. All logs have been signed as WAC to save space, abbreviation for Western Australia Crew. Cheers Cankid! We visited this at the beginning of the year after being exiled in lovely Canberra for nearly 6 months after being locked out of WA. As this day was hot, and tempers frayed, especially as herself refused to leave the safety of the path, this cache nearly caused a marital split wider than the rocks. As the chief logger, herself wisely thought it best to leave the discussion re answers alone until Earth Cache Day jogged the memory. Photos were resurrected (and yes, himself resurrected some of the heated discussion), answers sent to CO and now logged. Lovely area but I don't think we will risk a revisit for quite some time.

I started this earth cache a few years ago, but never finished it, lost the collected information and could only remember remnants. Revisited the site on a few occasions and slowly built up my answers.

Such interesting area and beautiful rock. You also get nice views from various points.

WP5 was a bit hit and miss as the GPS wouldn't settle on a certain pair of rocks/boulders.

Answers have been sent off.

It's been a while since I last did an earthcache so I thought I would give this one a try. There were lots of parking spots in the nearby lot and very few people on the trails today.

I've walked along this path a few times before but never knew that a quarry was nearby.
The grey and black striped rocks are pretty cool. I wonder if there is enough to build me a new house with?
Some great views up here today, even in the light rain.
Thanks for the e-cache CK

I have a target to double my earthcache total this year and I'm almost there. I also needed a non-trad cache today so this earthcache ticked all the boxes. Fortunately, G and L were with me - their legs are long enough to step over the horrible prickly weeds to get to the waypoints. I'm sure I found a trad here a while ago and didn't deal with the blighters. Information was quickly collected and answers have been sent to the co. TFTEC.

Before the heat got real bad today, I decided to grab a couple of unfound caches on Red Hill. I have been meaning to give this earthcache a proper go for ages, then finally decided to get down to it today. Took about 15min to wander around all the waypoints, observe the rocks and do some reading; while also playing Pokemon Go. It was very interesting to read why Red Hill is a red hill! The views from here were lovely and epic, despite the smoke. Answers have been sent - feel free to delete my log if they're not acceptable. TFTC Cankid!

Day 4 of our road trip, our full-day in Canberra. We started off with our customary morning at Questacon, and after fighting my way out of the giftshop decided we could do some local caches. After lunch we checked what caches were nearby - we spotted an EarthCache on a hill, and decided to base a couple of hours around there.
After wallking to the published coordinates I realised we had a few jobs to do here, so started managing waypoints (thanks Cachly) and gathering answers - gee, some of the questions could be considered a bit on the ambiguous side, but we answered as best we could. Answers have been sent. TFTC!

F(H)ound It! #3432 @ 5:00 PM

I have emailed my answers to the CO.
The Reluctant Geospouse was keen to take the hounds for a walk and so dragged me out from under my studies for my assignment. It was then that I remembered it is International Earthcache Day. So after a quick scan of nearby ECs I suggested a brisk walk up Red Hill.

We parked at the bottom near the round about and climbed the flight of stairs up past the TARDIS and On Red to WP1. There were quite a few muggles around but we were able to grab the required info while scrambling around the rocks to the other WPs. The view was specky with storm clouds rolling in over the Brindies, unfortunately no rain in them for us though.

Thanks Cankid

24-Aug-19
Lovely viewing spot with info on the red soil invoking the ‘Red Hill’ name

23-Jun-19
Out for a walk late in the day, we were pushing ourselves to get up here and back to Hindmarsh before it grew dark. Then as we read the cache listing we realised there were 5 WPs! Oops- we hadn't allowed the time for that, but as they are all very close together it didn't take long. Some interesting geography and geology here - thanks Cankid for the lesson!

The main reason as to why I found myself at Red Hill today. An excellent spot to place an EC with some spectacular views. The only problem was that it was blowing an absolute gale today which cut down on the enjoyment and certainly shortened the time taken to soak in the views.
Nonetheless well worth the walk over from the car park. Thanks, Cankid for bringing me here.

22-Apr-19
Having travelled all the way from Brisbane to attend the Mega event over the Easter long weekend, I was out and about from just after sun up with the aim of collecting as many caches as possible on my lengthy wish list. This was one of the caches on the agenda for today, as I love to learn new things from the earth caches I visit.

Rain had been forecast for today (in fact I had packed up my campsite a couple of days early to avoid having to transport wet camping equipment), and the rain clouds that had been brewing in the distance had moved in overhead and unleashed its contents, while thunder rumbled continuously overhead. Had a little trouble zeroing in on the correct rocks at a couple of the locations but answers have been sent to the CO. TFTC

While revisiting my once but temporary home town I ventured up Red Hill for the views - and also for this earthcache. I wandered around to the various waypoints, and hope that I identified the right rocks. In a way it really felt that they were the right ones! Smile One of the Q&A really illustrates the concept of Deep Time. Fascinating! Answers sent to ECO with thanks. Smile

Was up on Red Hill today collecting a couple of caches with DSD whilst in the general area, and decided we would grab this Earthcache whilst at it! I don't usually do Earthcaches by myself so good to have someone else to accompany and have a second opinion when geology isn't your strongest point!

We walked around to each of the waypoints, and gathered information. It was slightly hard to understand which rock was being referred too and where we needed to gather the information from given the countless rocks in the area but we made our best judgement and came up with a feasible set of answers!

Have sent them off to the CO, and also uploaded a pic of a big roo sitting in the shade near WP5 as it was quite hot today!

Thanks Cankid

Out for a few caches today with dty73, Shadowstorm1 and AddictedGamer, but with it being earthcache day we headed to the red hill area as it had a few caches as well as this Earthcache. An interesting cache and learn't a thing or too as well. Had a few problems along the way with a few WP's and not getting clear coordinates on the day with a bouncy GPS but feel we were able to locate all the right places to answer the questions. Plenty of lizards about, kangaroos and the odd rabbit as well. Answers have been sent to the CO on behalf of the group and we all enjoyed the location and the views from the top. Sunday 6 August 2017 - an overcast cool Winter's day in the very low teens walking approx. 2.5km to find 4 caches - 3 trads and this 1 EarthCache (Mt Ainlsie and Red Hill). This is the last EarthCache we needed to complete in Canberra - at this point in time - and now to concentrate on those EarthCaches not visisted located in the ACT.

Enjoyed the walk up from the bottom of the hill as it was great exercise for the old ticker. Interesting to read about the rock and soil types around this area. Learnt a thing or two tiday. Thx p2p. TFTEC Cankid.

Information was sent to CO on 7/8/17 via email. Today 9/8/17 without confirmation from CO we have now changed the status from 'write note' to 'found it'. Hope answers were OK.

This was my second day of caching and it was a mixed bag of puzzles, earthcaches, traditionals and a multi... all with the fantastic company of AngelG27. First day of holidays down from Brisbane and this was the last cache for the day as the temperature was around 38 degrees. A great view of the city of Canberra and a great earth cache too. Thank you Cankid. am emailing the answers to you.

Did this Earth Cache with my Son this afternoon, have email our answers off to you Cankid hopefully we got them correct?
I'd walk up Red Hill a few times before from work but never stopped to look around, this was before getting into Geocaching, it was nice this time to see the sights and have a good look around.
TFTC Cankid and the spectacular view of Canberra.

Hi Cankid, I refer to Kitty Katch email about our trip to Red Hill to solve your Earth Cache with DarzeeDi. Thank you for your response to say to log. Very excited to get my 2nd earth cache.
Thanks very much.

After picking up a few caches on the way up, we grabbed this cache before heading down the hill to collect more. I enjoyed the views, the geology lesson and the well set out cache. I esp like the way you brought this spot into the wider Canberra region and put other earthcaches I've done into perspective. Answers have been submitted - hope we found the right spot for the WPs. Thanks again Cankid Smile

KittyKatch (KK), GeoGlors (GG) and I had grabbed a few caches around the Red Hill Nature Reserve and just had to grab this earthcache. We went to all the weighpoints and took down the details, and KK submitted the email to CO for us all, hopefully we got it correct. It was an interesting warm day learning about the area and taking in the beautiful views. I lived in the area when I first arrived in Canberra in 1988 and was good to actually come back and enjoy the nature. tftc Cankid
