Logging this a little late. But visited this cache while out for a walk with the family and retrieved a TB that hadn't moved on for quite a while. Cache otherwise in good order and replaced with a couple of items. I was surprised to find cache had been archived. No present logging in this area.
Woohoo this was a blast!! I really enjoyed finding this one. TFTC -scores a favourite from me
I really enjoyed finding this cache. The description is great and I found it really helpful. It was a good scramble up and very slippery on the way down. Once at GZ it was an easy find. I'm surprised there are not more hides in this part of the forest. TFTC.
Time to climb alright.
I'd rate the difficulty a 5 but hey I'm pretty unfit.
Thanks for the Cache and workout

That was fun! As I was already at the Whaka lookout, I decided to make this as hard as possible for me. First up to the Trig point then descending. I went along the Waikato lookout track but, after a promising start, it went the wrong way. A small track seemed promising so I followed it. The distance kept dropping and, a somewhat slippery descent later, I arrived at the big rock. The cache was quickly found and signed and then more slipping and sliding back down to the road. TFTC.
Our vacation or road trip through New Zealand led here.

On a little road trip with fellow cachers, TnxPro & Phillip Perry today. Brought the bikes and off we headed. After a false start on the wrong track at the bottom, headed up this way to a nice find at GZ. Signed logs DJP today to save space. A bit of a bush bash and more up hill!! All good, thanks for bringing me here.
On an impromptu caching trip in the great Redwood forest today. I joined up with Philip.Perry and Mc Jandals. We brought the bikes today and semi planned to get as many caches as possible along the bike trails.
Jan and I overshot this one on the bike track, while looking for a better access track. As Philip was lagging behind us, he found the most direct way up and signed for us as team DJP. Cool cache thanks.

A plan was hatched late last night and it was decided that Rotorua would host us today. TNXPro, Mc Jandals and I had our bikes loaded and were looking forward to hitting the redwoods.
I was hoping there'd be an easier way to this but there wasn't so I started the climb. The ground was surprisingly stable and after several stops I made it to the top where the cache was quickly located. I was a little disappointed I didn't have any trackables on me as it was a good sized container in an ...interesting spot... Cheers Wingnut Rocks, TFTC.

On a bike ride in the area on a drizzly Sunday morning. Walked the rest of the way to this one. As per a previous comment, the GPS on the cellphone was of limited use on approaching GZ. Used the hint to search where I thought the cache should be. Either I’m blind or it simply isn’t there. Read an earlier log where someone said they’d found it rolled away from its likely hiding spot. I had a bit of a look in the nearby vicinity but found nothing. Fortunately I hadn’t trekked all the way up the hill for that result! Is the cache still there? Certainly not that I could see!
Great side track off the track, I missed the start of the track so just bashed my way straight up and then found the track to come back down.

We have found this one during our geotrip to China and New Zealand. We have enjoyed our 10 day stay in New Zealand a lot, especially its beautiful nature and atmosphere. Many thanks for the cache and also for showing us this nice place. Greetings from the Czech Republic.
Didn't see a small cut down tree but found the trail easily enough. This would have been MUCH easier in my trail running shoes.. poor choice I think! Was about to give up when I looked up and saw the big rock. Phone GPS is useless here!!

#3938. I have been up in Rotorua for a few days doing stuff with my Rotorua based family. Infoferret has come up to pick up her family car and offered me a ride back to Wellington on Friday. She noticed there was a new night cache in Rotorua and asked if I was keen to help her find it. After three days without any geocaching I was keen to get out and do some caching. We parked outside the carpark and headed off to the start of the trail. After doing the nightcache we decided to add this one to the tally. Problem is I didn't have the forest tracks marked on my GPS and IF did not have this cache uploaded on her phone at the time. So we went the wrong way at first. Soon realised we were heading away from it so returned to the start and luckily spied the route up hill in the dark. Bit of a scramble, huff and puff but got there. Cache was quickly found. Signed log and replaced as found. Time to slip and slide back down the hill. Thanks for the cache wingnut Rocks.
After completing the new night cache, GSEL talked me into doing this one in the dark ! Not sure if that made it easier (as I couldn't see what was in store for me), or harder! TFTC. All in good order, and another one added to the DGSc 2.5 D/T challenge option,
Came from the top down You need profiled shoes to do this. Thanks to grabbing on to ferns and trees, I made it safe down
After the short hike up to the geysir viewing point, we looked for found our way down the hill until we reached the Cache. Great location, thx from Germany from da

WHAT A CLIMB!!!! man that got my calfs pumping on the way up and thighs on the way day! Very cool!
Excellent scrabble up the trail. The trail entrance has moved a little since this cache was first posted...but if yr in the spot as described you'll see it easily.
Flippity do dah! Terrain of 3?? And then have to go down again. What's further along the track? Btw the cache is definitely at the BASE of the rock! TFTC it's a fab one in an amazing place. www.thesoloavocado.com (Australia)
What a climb! We went further up the hill to a second big rock (stoopid). Finally found it! We also found our first travel bug! We are from the UK but will be returning to my family in Melbourne for Christmas. This big will go far!
A mission into the forest to take our Polish visitor and kyrageohunting to see Pohutu Geyser turned into a good climb (everyone was willing!) up the steep hill to this beauty of a cache. It has been on my and georunnermatt to-do list for a while now, so pleased to have got around to it. TFTC
Hideeho thanks for the cache:) Greetings from the USA, yeah quite the climb up. We found the cache well below the rock in the open, perhaps rolled down? Replaced it in the crack at base of rock as we had looked up on top and cold not see where it might be, if that what the hint refers to. So the CO might want to take a little leg stretcher of a hike to see if this is where he prefers it to be!
When Cats&Dragons and HKCB suggested a day out in Rotorua collecting some caches perhaps I should have looked harder at just how many higher terrain caches we were heading for. I was a little tired after a whole lot of walking, I was very out of practise! A nice early start, leaving Hamilton at 4.30am meant we could make the most of the day. All in all a great day out exploring Rotorua and seeing some great sights. Thanks to all the cache owners for their placements which allowed us to have a fun day out! All logs were signed as "HIC" to save room
After a big 'little walk' in the Redwoods on the other side it was time to attack this side. Sure lives up to its name! THanks for the cache

This is to be a mighty day in the company of HKCB & 11HPG11 as we headed over from Hamilton to clean out a few caches (thirty plus) and get in a real good walk as the start of the new season takes hold. We all admit that we have all been far too quiet over the winter months, so this was a bit of a chance to make up for that. Setting out from Hamilton at 4.30am getting back at 5pm, covering approx 32km of walking tracks all in an effort to find plastic boxes hidden in the bush.
As always the day was full of laughs, long drags up hills and very weary legs at the end of it, what more could one wish for but the company of good mates, and I had that in spades. Thanks to all the cachers who took the time to place (and maintain) these caches for us to enjoy.
This was the twenty fifth of the day as we made our way around the top of the lake before heading back down to the Redwood Forest and lots of walking. Having completed what we had planned on the other side of the Redwoods we shot out here so as to grab this one and a couple of others before heading on back. Cahce in great location and great condition
Thanks for the cache, Thanks for the placement

Teamed up with Cats&Dragons and 11HPG11 to focus on some of higher difficulty and terrain caches in and around Rotorua, and anything else that we were going past. The day started well before the sun was up as we left Hamilton at 4.30am, and the last cache being located a little after 3pm as we all needed to be back home at a reasonable time. The day was hugely successful with all caches planned for the day being found, and as a bonus the quality of caches were really high! So a big thanks to all the CO's for the great placements. The logs were all signed with "H1C".
After going for a wander on the other side of the Redwoods we headed over to this side to grab a couple more caches, namely this one. Easy stroll to the marked WP, but that all changed pretty quickly when we started the climb. Was glad it was short and sharp and the legs were a bit tired at this stage from the walking this morning. No trouble with the find once at GZ. A great place for a cache.

Having a nice easy wander around Pohaturoa track, so yup need some exercise and "Time To Climb" sounds good! We just had a bit of rain so up (got my heart pumping) was actually faster than down Great wee spot thanks for the hide
Not suppose to do this one but no question to let Sveppi do it alone so climb (is climb the right word) to the cache.
Slippy on climbing because of the rain but have to be more careful on descent .

Last time we tried, we thought we would be tricky and come from the other direction so we didn't have to climb the hill! We somehow ended up at the wrong rock! This time, we decided to start where it had mentioned in the summary! And man was it a climb!!!!! After 10 minutes of hard out climbing and confusion, we reached "the rock." I scampered up the rock to find the treasure!! This one definitly deserves a fave point!!! TFTC
Found at 11:44:00 a.m. on 7/10/2014.
Found on a conference trip to Rotorua. Hired a bike to explore the surrounding area.
A bit of a grunt up but took longer to come back down after the recent rain.

We completely missed the path ended walking up to waipa lookout! What a climb - left the little kids at bottom as too steep!
Found it after a decent scramble uphill with a 4.5 and 2.5 year old & an 11 month old in backpack. Lucky for ribbon around tree at start of climb, as couldn't find any cut down tree. But once there and thanks to the hint an easy find - much to the delight of my kids. Our first cache find after a long break - TFTC!
Was a challenging up hill trek so thanks for the hint which meant I wasn't scrambling around trying to locate cache
I can definitely see how the cache got its name, hard work getting all the way up there but lots of fun. Th little ribbon on the tree at the start is a handy pointer. Cache was easy to find luckily, decided to carry on upwards to join back to the track at the top which was very tricky to find.

Full wet weather kit on and this climb got us very warm. Quite wet underfoot this morning so steep slopes and water means lots of slipping, sliding and lost footing. And that was just going up. Quickly found the cache and carefully picked our way back down.
phone GPS is too unreliable - may have begun the ascent in the wrong place, and after awhile found myself completely lost. Decided that as long as I kept going up I would eventually meet with the main track - true, but ground underfoot very soft, and when I did finally spot the track it was a 2m drop below me. Along the way I paused at a very large rock cluster, which I suspected may have been the target, however, having lost all caching nouse by this stage, failed to locate much more than some fascinating fungi!
I will be back - with the actual GPS unit and a friend or two next time!

Bush bashed our way from the top and got within 20 metres but decided to put our health and safety before climbing around any more to find this one. Took the little path down = wow not for the faint hearted and found the clues adn ribbon way down the track - ribbon is orange in colour. Will be back some time to give this one another try.
Once we got to the mud pools we read the description and headed back to the missing section of pipe and the small tree that had been cut down. We couldn't see any track but headed off just bush bashing and when we got to the rock we found the proper track. really enjoyed it though and came down the proper track and found some one had put a ribbon on a tree branch at the start many thanks
The title of this cache is no joke - serious climb!!! Thank goodness I had my geocaching buddy to encourage me or I don't know if I would have made it. Had a great day caching in this forest. TFTC
Third cache for the day after a rainy start.
The title says it indeed. After signing the log, with my geomate we carried up the hill as it was just too slippery to go down. Bonus was to do a couple of other caches around the summit and ridge.

Whew, we oldies made it, even Mr P with his blood pressure issues. We felt make champions when we (I) found the cache. t4tc A favourite point from us.
Found this one by night and coming from above. Quite challenging going through the bush on a steep slope at night, but I really enjoyed it. TFTC
Nice walk up with the family. Got to the top only to realise we went to far. Easy find. Tftc.
Ok a warning for non local people. Don't approach this from the top track. If you happen to walk around the park anticlockwise and your last cache was the lookout cache, double back to the main track and go past the mud pools. It is doable as zorgon and I have done but not the safest approach as the last 30 m is very very steep down! The track heading up from the bottom road is much easier on the heart and body!
GPS took me to one rocky outcrop so I searched around here before deciding I needed to move over to the north. So traversed sideways, where the GPS changed its mind and said this was the rock I needed. By then I knew I was at the right spot as I found a trail heading up. Sure made the climb easier than bush bashing! What a reef it was to be able to sign the log and get the smilie! Phew! I sure worked hard for ts one! TFTC!

it was a very steep hill to climb up. i don't recommend little kids to climb that hill but with i got to the rock i started to look in front of the rock but i went to the back of it and what do you know there's a container
a good work out, even for the unfit (hahaha), however really happy once we found it AND the phone was just about out of battery life.
Hadn't planned on doing this cache today but on my walk up to the Pohaturoa summit I realised it was only 100 m or so away. Headed through the forest towards the cache and came to a steep descent but only 30 m (horizontal) to the cache. Time to read the cache page. Oops I should be approaching this from the bottom. Not too worry. The ground was quite soft so it was surprisingly easy to get to the cache despite wearing crocs for footwear. The only thing that slowed me up a little was initially finding some very large rocks above the actual cache location.
Many thanks for the fun.
Many thanks for the fun.
Wow! That was a mission! I started badly by missing the track, so spent more than half an hour scrambling about in the undergrowth, hauling myself upwards clutching ferns and superannuated branches. Judged by the occasional skid mark I came across I was not the first. I can also vouch for the existence of about a dozen Large Rocks and many Trees in the area. However, once I stumbled onto the track and the right rock the cache was soon in hand.
I suspect that the route given is not the easiest access to this cache. However, for those who like to compete in the Women's Duathon arena the instructions are a little misleading. The start is a few metres past the break in the pipe (which btw supplied geothermal steam to the Waipa #1 single men’s camp, where the mtb car park now is), and forget the little tree.

Well I found the broken pipe, but not the small cut down tree or the track start. But it's nice and open so I bush bashed up. And here it is! That was rather quick and easy! Hang on, that was too easy... ah. Wrong rock. Keep going, found the track, rock and cache soon after. Took the track back, it ended right at my bike!
Poped out to check my cache's today. Read the logs and the same comment keeps coming up...."Why?" Haha....Quite simply because I can....All good up here....
Had already attempted this one direct from Outward Bound cache, but dropped back to the DOC Yellow track and walked up a bit further, then cut in to the Waipa Lookout and made a downward approach down the side of there. Last time I did this sort of thing I was in my 20's and doing competitive Orienteering. Now mid 60's with two tin knees, it was Tiger country. Found it OK and dropped down to the track. Very glad it is summer and dry, or it would have been a mud slid to the bottom, on the bottom. Went up to to Free Geyser View cache, to meet up with Mrs S who had got just got 10:30 PM cache. Thanks for the fun Wingnut (you Sadist) and thanks for clearing a few of those green boxes off my map and converting them into Smilee faces.

Found durind morning walk with friend. The climb up was not so difficult as I thought, but after a rainy day it will be a very hard climb. Nice view from the top of the hill.

Hid the bikes then up we went. Young cacher worked out pretty quickly where it was and just like that another one for the day. Might come back and continue the walk sometime soon. TFTC
That was a climb needed a rest once we found cache. Then we were of to find Outward Bound
We started climbing before your track we eventully found your track and found your cache,I lost my phone up there somewhere. TFTC
Loved it, friend recovering from broken ankle managed it too, good on her! Left a neat prezzie in this one due to the effort needed to get there. A brand new good quality pedometer, hope someone keen to get it. TFTC
Quick detour up the hill while walking in the forest with my parents. Warm, calm day made for a very pleasant walk with just a bit of sweat from the detour. Good to see the forest so well utilised. We walked the new(ish) track from the TePuia carpark to Waipa. Would be a great place to put a cache to encourage people to visit this walk along the river, with a bit of history thrown in. TFCC
Pretty sure I hurt more than just legs on way up thought mild heart attact was coming.
