Out to my brothers place for Christmas. He lives in Hannah st so i thought i might grab a cache for Xmas.I must have been a bad boy because i didn't get a smiley.Long way to come for a Blue grump. Anyway thanks for the bush walk.
After walking a kilometre from the end of Downie Lane, we arrived at the structure in question, and began to search everywhere. Unfortunately, we couldn't come up with anything, and had we not been attacked by mosquitoes we probably would have stayed longer. Reading the logs, it seems that the container isn't in great condition, so it might need a check by the CO.
Despite the previous note about this cache, I found on a beautiful sunny Wednesday morning with no problems. Lots of birds around and saw a fox quite close to GZ, tftc
Glencore, the owners of the land, are getting serious about trespassing, after a -lot- of anti-social 4WD owners have been making Police call-outs a regular thing. Hidden cameras have also been installed. The area at the end of Downie Lane is also a drug-dealing beat.
I live in the immediate area, and I can't recommend attempting this cache now.
Update Dec 2017: There's now a 2 metre deep trench across the former bush access tracks to empathize the point.

I am slowly clearing cahes in the area. I decided to come and grab this after work today. Parked as close as i could and had an easy walk to GZ. Found the structure and quickly located the cache. TFTC
Called past today as I noticed a few finds for this cache since i was last there. Found it this time and it was where i thought it should be previously. However, i would say the CO should replace the container with something a little more robust to ensure longevity of the cache. SL TNTL and TFTC
Found after a walk from Wallsend through the bush. The mosquitoes were however horrendous.
The container has no lid and was full of water. Despite the double bags the log was destroyed. I placed a new bag and log and re-placed the container upside down so the water won't hopefully get in.

Looked everywhere but no luck. I think i see where it was meant to be but it was missing. Looked in all the other possible spots. If someone can confirm its still there i will go back and try again.
Tftc
Found cache on the ground in the open
All was dry still double bagged
Signed and returned to safer spot

A fun walk pre work this morning. Found cache container and old log bag. No lid on container as noted by previous finders. I have added a new log and double bagged the log to keep it safe. Also re hidden in what I feel is the most likely spot. You'll find it if you look! TNLN TFTC
Unfortunately the container was empty and missing it's end cap when we found it. Great spot though.
TFTC nice walk through the bush. Never been here before, will definitely come again
Found a nice 4x4 track to get all the way to the GZ. Once there it was a fairly quick find. TFTC
Finished work nice and early, so hired a friend to go for a walk with me to this one (from Downie Lane).
Maybe it was to hot to go walking as I felt terrible all weekend...
Saw two motorbikes, one 4WD, one random guy walking and two different motorbikes.
Thanks for showing me what a sluice is!

Must work through of the Multis and Puzzle of the Wallsend area, as I guess a few of them end up in this area. Nice not to be bothered by muggles, so soon found our way into the cache, from a previously researched parking spot. Rather rusty the sluice now.
Cache dry. Think I left another ziploc bag.
Cookie had me carry something he had retrieved from the nearby pond, so my shorts were quite muddy by the time we got back. Who knows where that will turn up !?!

0755 GAFF1 Always nice to 'reprise' a DNF. Had done a bit more of a search to find an alternative way to GZ, and with only a kilometre walk it was nice to get on top of it. Interesting the things you find while geocaching. Cache dry and intact. Did replace the ziploc bag (which wasn't zipping anymore).
Grabbed a floating fire extinguisher on the way back, and a few bits of rubbish.
Another for the Challenging Cache elective book mark.
TNLN. Brought through for mileage: 3 Bros, Aust Light Houses, BEAGLE BIXBY, B 2 B ingot, Fishing Bell TB, Homer J TB, Iconic Bridges, cache critters Baa, Neigh Neddy, and Oink, PAP, Trakabulldog geocoins and trackable shirt.

Found this one took me and my dad about 2 and a half hours to get to the location and 1min to find it. Still a good place it took us to though.
I found a way in to the area around this cache, and set off with high hopes.
What a drive it is!! You'll need high clearance 4WD and some grunt to get in and back using the road I used. Maybe there's an easier way in, but I couldn't find it.
Anyway, after a couple of false starts, and a bit of reversing, I came out onto the flat, but not even, ground and drove on to the dam. Not to be outdone, I reckon I was able to drive within 10 metres of the cache. (Feeling lazy today!!)
Cache was soon in hand, and I began the reverse trip. Started off okay, but I didn't take enough notice of where I had turned and I had a few sidetrips. Soon found the way back, and tackled the even rougher up-hill track. All good.

Set out for this one with my friend Morgan. After a small ride to wallsend, we hit the trail and it was super muddy. After tackling some large puddles where my feet got saturated we arrived close to GZ, from where we were, a car was there. We then decided the other side in was our best bet. As we ventured in, three 4WD came and picked up the car on the other side. Whilst morgan and my sister watched them, i headed towards the sluice box. I found the cache after battling lantana. I checked my pocket. NO PEN! Checked my other, still NO PEN. After traveling all this way, I had no pen. The next best thing was to take a photo of my GPS and the cache. TFTC and adventure. Will come back to sign Fav point from me :p
We were finally getting the remain caches in the area with JMD2290. After a 900m walk we soon had the cache in hand, thanks
WARNING! Massive wasp nest in the direct area of GZ! Had a cool 4wd into the area and quickly reached GZ. Spied where the cache would be, got stung by a wasp so we made a quick exit without a find.
Reperio at 1030.
Decided to pay this one a visit today...and after finding a suitable park near GZ...I was soon at GZ with the cache in hand. Certainly plenty of flies hovering around the area today...but enjoyed seeing another long forgotten location.

That was a nice hike. Anyone having troubles finding the way in park at Downie LA and walk from there. If your at the recycling center your in the wrong spot.
Second time in the area, but only with routing on the GPS, and no paper map to work out the best way into the area when the recycling centre is closed. May try another time when down from Taree.
Parked 900m away from GZ and had a pleasant hike in to find this cache. Lots of wildlife along the way. Made the find fairly quickly on arrival at GZ, nice spot. TFTC
what a hike that was parked at blue gum hills park after completing a quick cache nearby I decided to walk to this one after a 2.8 km walk the cache was in hand dropped off pathtag and headed off for the return walk not sure if this was the best place to start from but a good walk anyway TFTC.
This place is awesome. Almost found an excuse to lock in the 4x4. lots of fun. TFTC
This cache is in my neck of the woods. Ive ridden around here on my mountain bike dozens of times and though a cache somewhere here would be great. However, I always thought that this was private land - I must have been wrong.
After riding from Wallsend to Cameron Park to pick up another new cache I made my way back through the bush on the northern side of the Link Road. After burning 1500Cal and getting my heart rate upto 177bpm I finally got to GZ. It was a popular little area with half dozen teenagers near by riding the motor bikes. Quick search and I found the cache.
Out of interest I worked in the Gretley Colliery for 2 weeks just prior to it closing down. The old entrance is not far away from this cache however its been covered over for safety.
TFTC. Enjoyed the excuse to get back on my push bike.

At 14:15. We were having lunch at Warratah when the notification for this one came through. We had an hour to kill before the HAVOC event so decided to find this one. It took 4 attempts at finding the best track to get the Geolux in. We found a fun steepish track in (not for soft roaders) and we were soon at the dam. We found the sluice and the cache was soon in hand. The hanging mechanism broke upon retrieval but we managed to hide it below its original spot. Whilst Mr C was performing the caching duties Mrs C saw a huge golden coloured carp swimming near the surface of the dam!
As Mrs C is a geologist she loves visiting sites like this and bored Mr C with random bits of coal and rock...it was interesting to see bits and pieces from the mining part in this area and what rehabilitation takes place post mining. TFTC.

A nice easy stroll from a relatively close park brought me to the dam quickly. Found GZ and after a brief search quickly had the cache in hand. Nice location with some relics of another era.
