Was chasing Indenial cache as I may just go after the Golden Oldies challenge but was aware of this interesting one to possibly see some local indigenous art. Certainly a bit of art amongst the rocks and grasses. Cache was a straight forward find with the phone landing me within a metre of the hide
Day seven of my road trip and day five in Townsville and my last day in Townsville before heading back to Brisbane. It was target caching day and there was some driving to be had to fulfil a local challenge and get a few off my list.
A drive up this way chasing two older caches and I saw this cache. I pulled over and put on the long pants for the walk as the grass was 6 foot tall at least and i wasn’t sure what to expect. OMGoodness the walk up was just fantastic and the artwork just wowed me. I had to get some pics and send the home, the art work here was just awesome. Thank you for bringing me here.
I found the cache and signed the log and replaced as found. Thank you for bringing me here this was just awesome.

Day 20 of our road trip from the Gold Coast with hatzofff, grannysmith1947 and RoddyC and our last day in the Townsville district before heading home for Christmas.
Hervey Range caches were last on our targeted list of caches we wanted to do whilst here and it was a terrific day up until the heavens opened in the afternoon when we were in between 'tunnels'. The roadworks were a slight issue but because we had started early we managed to get the caches that were mid way as there was no stopping allowed because it was down to one-way only.
This one took us longer than usual to locate, had walked past it several times.

Two years ago, an Aborigine showed me these rock paintings. He said that this was probably a cave for protection on the way down. Most paintings aren’t authentic though, but ultimately it is hard to tell by now. He also showed me some other authentic rock paintings underneath a sacred stone, which is located on private property.
Whilst being here, I also searched for the cache, but unfortunately wasn’t successful. This time I fought my way through the chest high grass once more and quickly found the cache. Thank you very much.

This cache has been on my hit list for a while so it was good to bag it today. Probably picked the worst time to do it, the grass is thick and well above my head height. After a poor GPS signal led us a stray we found the cave and the kids soon had the cache in hand. Amazing spot, thanks for bringing us here. TNSL, TFTC.
TFTC Found geocache with my daughter MissCharlieBear after a short trek up to this rock art. “I Geocaching” especially so when it takes you to these unique places you’d just drive past as a muggle!! Beautiful spot ~ a fave point will be awarded when I have one to give ️ ~ my kind of place... I feel so at peace here Signed Log, dropped a trackable, TSLS & RAF.

TFTC Found with my mum skatierocks & I loved this cache & I give it a favourite point. ️ It had great SWAG, traded SWAG!! I loved the rock drawings & cave. I got dirty getting here & back to the car... so much fun This place reminds me of “the croods”
Has been a while since this cache was found but it is in superb condition. The area has been burnt off and the path to the cache was relatively clear. Interesting spot thanks corikra
Who would have known racing along the range road! Thanks for this cache!! Love the ancient art work and the shady spot! Very easy to access right now as a fire burnt all the undergrowth. With Townsville weather should be all good till March probably. Awarded a favourite point.
On our trip to the Hervey Ranges we stopped here. Good thing there has recently been some controlled burning here. Got to GZ relatively easy, but we are now smelling like smoked sausages. Cache is in good condition. TFTC
The family and I took the hard way up!!! Through the long grass, My 5 year old daughter complained about the long grass but we got there in the end. Great art work!!! I am sure some are original and some have been added after.
Now where to look for a cache I looked here, I looked there??? Still nothing!!! Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! I almost gave up and I will try over here and BINGO!!!!!!!!! I found a likely hiding place covered in long grass and a fallen tree, I moved the tree and signed the cache. Thanks corikra for bringing us here and showing us the art work. Now we will take the easy trail back down to the car.

The grass was quite epic and we will have to return without the little munchkins to find it
After recent rain the vegetation made fonding anything a much greater challenge.
DNF. But will try again when the grass is a bit less of an issue.
Great spot to visit and have a look at the art work.

pretty cool art work it looks legit for some of it. Easy find.
P.S go up near the right hand side of the big rock it will save you some long grass encounters.

This was a surprisingly fast find despite the head high grass.
I realised I'd been here before with my school and an elder to see the art so I believe that it's genuine.
Thanks for the find. My second to last available cache left in Townsville. Only Mt Marlow to go. Tftc

Driving towards Townsville on the next leg of our continuing travels around this great country of ours. Great to be able to break up the journey with stops to grab caches. TFTC
After a run up the highway to almost Ingham, I headed back and into this area to grab a few. Parked over road and the set off through the chest high grass. Managed to get through that ok, then up and over a few rocks, under the over hanging rock and then to GZ. Cache was spotted quickly after that and all was good. Log was signed, cache replaced and it was time to replace my route. Arrive back at the car and headed off for the next one.
Thanks corikra.....a very neat location...long grass and all.

Got invited by karicka to come along and grab a cache nearby for his 12000th cache so GeoP went along and grabbed this one as well. Grass is really REALLY high, now well above my head which made finding this a little tricky. Found in the end. Thanks for showing js this beautiful art corikra. tftc sl tnln
no luck for us today, GPS wasn't working too well in the rain and the grass was hip high
Last full day of our annual Christmas trip to Townsville visiting my in-laws. The extended family in law is having a get together at the tea rooms late in the afternoon. At some point in the afternoon, I managed to slip away and go and clean up some nearby caches, including this one.
The vegetation was nearly head high in places. It was only when I reached the cache that I found an alternative path to GZ, where the vegetation was only waste high. No snakes today - except the blue one painted on the rocks. My own guess is that some of the art is authentic and some isn't (ie the recent blue snake).
The cache was found in good condition. Interesting place - thanks for bringing me here. Thanks for the cache, Corika.

Just as I stopped another car stopped on opposite side of the road, he was just looking for the paintings.
Waited him out before picking up the cache.
Thanks for showing me this place

A great day out caching with Preeds, we headed off to the Hervey Range,
as neither teams had been to the area.
Some interesting art work here, but the blue snake looked out of place.
This cache was found easily, and in good condition.
Many thanks for placing this cache, corikra, for us and others to find.

Well,we certainly earned those terrain stars, and then some, today. We decided against the shorts route and paid for it as a result. Decided to take the shallow approach and ended up ont he wrong side of a rather large rock.
In the end we found our way to GZ and were rewarded for our efforts with a nice cool shaded spot. Then the challenge was on to find the cache in amongst the head, or higher, height grass. geoD came up trumps with the well preserved container.
We then shose a higher perch to determine our route back to the road and were able to spot a quicker route back.
Thanks corikra for bringing us to this location, for us this is what geocaching is truly about.

Went on a geocaching adventure with Danzfox today and thought we would cache the Hervey Range area, this is our first of many caches for today...love the artwork. TFTC.
This is a great find to the owner. Congratulations. Loved the aboriginal art work. SL TFTC
A scratchy, spikey, itchy, green ant filled walk for us today - lucky it was short. A interesting location. We took a little while to find this one but RobS72 spotted it in the end. TFTC.
Out and about caching in the Harvey Range area with MattCNS and Mtn Pygmy Possum. This was our last cache for the day and it was here where we found the long grass and the dreaded green ants. Arrived at the GZ and the search began. We checked the obvious spots first and then began to fan out. Took a few minutes, but eventually we had the prize in hand. Very cool spot location and well worth the visit.

I guess we got the hard end of the terrain rating! We headed 'up' too early and ended up wading through grass, spiky plants and apparently green ants nests for far too long [xx(]. Eventually spotted what we thought was the overhang. Oops, nope, still 35m to go. Circled around the rock and spotted the artwork. Very neat . The cache didn't take at all long to locate. Thanks corikra
This is the 3rd find for the day. The 6th find for the year but most importantly
ITS OUR[^] 600TH FIND [^]
It was starting to get dark so we parked up the GeoJeep and proceed to GZ. Admired some of the Rock Art and then hunted for the cache.
Cat found this one and was excited to sign the log.
This is a great area. I was actually with the CO when she placed the cache however I decided to stay in the car so that I can search for it with Bear. It has taken me too long to find this one.
The cache container and contents are all good.
Thanks for taking us to this great spot and thanks for all your efforts to hiding caches.

After having afternoon tea at the Heritage Tea Rooms, we headed back down. I drove past this one initially, but as I read out the name everyone wanted to have a look. We did a u-turn at the bottom of the hill and headed back up. I was impressed with my wife and sister as they walked up to the cache and art in dresses and flip flops!!
Once at ground zero, I spied the location of the prize but we spent a few minutes looking at the art first. Then on to the prize which was quickly signed
Thanks for the cache and for getting us to stop here to see something different corika
Cheers

found ourselves back out on the range today hunting another cache. recent fire makes easy walking but dirty feet and filthy kids!!! had a look at the "art", then a quick scout around and the beast was discovered[^] sl. t: pen and hand wash l: rubiks cube keyring. TFTC.
Much of the work I do when around Townsville is out this way so I was pleased to see a new cache. Even better when it shows me some 'hidden' history. Not much room to park here but enough to get off the road. The recent fire has made it quite easy going and I was blown away by the size of the boulders that looked ready to drop down the mountain.
Headed to GZ where I spotted the overhang and then the cache. Did my duties there and then went to the art work. The ones lower on the wall look rather more recent and I'd say the blue painted snake is also of the last 20 year. However the faint large red images right above my head looked pretty genuine. I'm not sure if the art work is typical of this area as I'm no expert but I find it hard to believe fakers would go to all this trouble for such an out of the way place.
Anyway I enjoyed this one immensely. A favourite for showing me something I had no idea about.
Thanks.

# 644 FTF we jumped in the Cache Ranger and raced out to Corrina's new cache. Our new cache was also published so we were confident that others would chase that and allow us to our own devices.
As we drove out to GZ, I realised that my phone was still sitting on the desk at home. Thankfully big Monkey had hers, but we were forced to work out how to cache iPhone style. Not a fan.
At GZ, we used the C+2M searching style. That's when you take the longest possible route to get to GZ, the walk back and realise you were about a quarter of the distance away from the start point.
