#4189 Today is day 32 of my geocaching vacation in New Zealand. I'm driving west to get some geocaches in Taranaki region. Found it! Last one today. I stopped by for this puzzle cache and dinner. I made the grab while waiting for my food and solved the puzzle indoors. I had seen this type of puzzle several times, so it did not take long for me to get it. After I signed the log, my food was ready as well. I also discovered the teamwork mystery cache outside and grabbed the answer for a fellow cacher in Colorado Springs. Firewoof, thank you for the cache! -crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on November 1, 2024 @ 19:10:34[GC3YTZ5] Pukeko Puzzler - Wanganui was a D2.5/T1.0 Micro Traditional Cache at the time of finding.
Wow loved this puzzle. Love Dan Browns novels but that through me off the clue. Use your eyes eventually gave it to me after looking around the vicinityThanks so much.Grandkids loved it but dont think laterally enough
One of the coolest caches we have found so far! We figured out the code but unfortunately it seems that the object is broken as we couldnt open it. We informed the cafe staff (who were super cool!) about it in case others run into the same problem as us.TFTC Firewoof!
Omg this is so cool. Definitely felt like an albino monk was pursuing me Realised after a couple attempts I was spelling it wrong. But then its all about you, not me so Well worth making me late for my trip to NP and Im not even mad. TFTC (Tokomaru )
This is a brilliant cache container. Which was fixed in front of our eyes while we ate Icecream at the Pukeko's Nest Cafe to it's own nesting box.
We found it and after 2 days we came back and solved it, definitely the coolest cache we've found. Unfortunately we struggled with closing it, and couldn't fit it back to the spot. We've given it to the cafe for safe keeping.
absolutely INFESTED WITH ANTS however still an incredible cache, very creative. Thanks FireWoof!! #tflc
I have the week off work done have come up to Taranaki for a couple of days or so for caching, tracking the Forgotten Highway and hopefully finally knocking off the E174 challenge that I signed some years ago.An early morning departure from Wellington meant it was still dark when I pulled up to GZ, not knowing what to expect. But I quickly spotted the hide and soon had the treasure box within. I retreated back to the car to investigate as the rain was still threatening. Ah, one of these! Read through the card and had it open on the first try. Signed and replaced.Another fantastic cache construction from this CO.All good here and TFTC+FP.Find #6517 at 19 March 2024 6:51 am
That took less time than I thought it would thanks to a very lucky 2nd guess from Hayzz, but Man is this a cool cache!
Tis a very cool cache and had us scratching our heads for the puzzler cracker Very well done and tftcOut with Kimmy +co and Geeves90
Tftc easy find out with geeves90, and hayzz. Have come up from Wellington for a weekend of exploring.Didn't take us long to figure this one out.
Today we left Wellington and continued our journey with next stop in Stratford. Before going straight to Stratford we made one last cache and again we had much fun Holding the final cache container in our hands we thought about a possible solution and the first try was alraedy correct We sgned the logbook and put the cache back. Great idea, we leave a blue heart here. Thanks for hiding and maintaining the cache.Happy hunting!TFTCschnuckel1[#24156]
After finishing some local walks MrsB needed coffee and this spot was close. Then she said there was a cache here and we checked the fave points quickly turned into a must do!! Took some time while sipping coffee before the solution was obvious. A def fave point from us. This is amazing!!!!
Omg, I've never seen anything like this. Well I managed to get the first part out. Then I scratched my head trying to work out the code.Took everything back to the truck for help from Woody. We both sat there scratching our heads and in the end had to phone a friend. So thank you friend, would not have got it on our own, not the cryptic puzzle kind.A great journey, thank you
Accio 14:17:22Nearing the end of our fantastic North NZ touring holiday, T4mmmy and I are now heading from south to north for our flight tomorrow. Quick find but took 3 attempts to open ... sneaky. Another fav. Thanks Firewoof for entertaining me at this location. *{Overall find #11861}*
Heading to a CITO at Whangaehu Beach with Infoferret, GSEL, and Barefootguru. We had time on our hands before the event, so around Wanganui and environs to pick up some caches. This was one of them. The carpark adjacent to the cache was absolutely full. I was the only one of the group that had not seen this one, so the others stayed in the car to grin at my efforts. The cache itself was easy enough to find, although a van with a dog in it was parked close by. I edged past slowly, but the dog wasn't interested in me at all. He was just hanging out for the boss to get back. First stage was quickly solved, just by examining the cache outer closely. Then the box proper, beautifully made. Inside, a puzzle to solve before the log could be extracted, again, beautifully constructed. FP from me! This gave me some pause, but, after a couple of false starts, I had the answer. Tricky keeping everything lined up to complete the extraction. Signed, and returned as found. The dog still wasn't interested, so easy enough to back out and back to the car. Tftc!PS I did come across a cache very similar to this one on a track in Wellington a couple of years ago. Not so well protected, though, so the mechanism was a bit rusty.
An overnight stay in Whanganui, we were down at the beach in a car park allocated to the second class travellers the freedom campers. There was a hoon (as we call them in oz) doing burn outs in his crap forsaken Ute showering all beach visitors with a Smokey stench. But I digress. We had a safe evening and could hear the waves crashing all night. I was not prepared for the black sand, and the growing collection of beach drift wood, far more than we encountered in 2018 when riding our bikes on the 90 mile beach. After a stunning visit to the elevator, we headed north west and I hand picked his cache as the must do for the day. The cache was found and in an typical caching fashion I found the key in a millisecond. The box was opened and the fun began. I used the code forward and no luck. I tried it backward and no luck. I got my partner there to help to see if I made a rookie error, nope, forward again and no luck.I asked the cafe staff, and they produced some assistance which was so kind, and so obvious. I had looked at that, and not twigged. Good one, love this, and with all outstanding caches (those head and shoulders above normal) you wish you could leave more than one FP.Thanks for the cache and the adventure, the challenge and the fun. Leaving a FP, congratulations on the great cache Firewoof. Found Thursday 21st at 12.22pm.
I had signed up for an event called 'The Mudder' in Marton, at the Rangitikei Farmstay, and thought that it was the perfect excuse to take a couple of days off work and go on a 5-day road trip to Whanganui and Palmerston North. All up I travelled 1,650km and found over 200 caches/ad lab stages mostly targeting high favs.I had visited some of the nearby reserves quite early and thought it would be a good time to stop here. Pulled up into the parking lot near the cafe which appeared like it had shut down with the large closed sign. Spotted the cache straightaway and then came the fun part.I have to say this took far longer to crack the code than it really should have. But I am going to blame the lack of coffee beforehand as I was hoping to grab a coffee from the cafe to drink while trying to open the cache. Luckily, my car blocked me from view, as the cafe actually hadn't shut down. Finally something clicked and I figured out what was needed and was able to sign the log. Then I rewarded myself with an overpriced coffee.
Planned to head out to Whanganui with some friends and find lots of the high fav point caches (mostly firewoofand also get some different caches types for WOC. They ended up pulling out and just had Finn with us.
This was a Very, VERY, VERY! Well done cache. I cant imagine how much effort would have went into making this! Gets a FP and gets to go on my Best cache list!
I wrote in the log and placed the cache back as found. TFTCSL, Thanks Firewoof for this Traditional cache.

We are in NZ from Australia. This is our replacement holiday instead of Seattle 2020, not quite the same but that’s all AirNz can muster up for our credit. But we are happy it’s a holiday and we get to see all our NZ pals. As well as this there is geocaching to be done.
When planning this trip I asked my friend in Upper Hutt where we could stay on the way back to Auckland she suggested Whanganui which we thought sounded interesting as we haven’t been here before. Little could she have guessed that it was the home to many many wonderful caches. What a bonus for us.
I drew up a list of caches with lots of FP and it did not disappoint.
This is one of my favourite hides ever. I had a real head slap moment on accessing the log, I couldn’t think what I was missing I thought it was amazingly brilliant so giving it a FP. TFTC
SA’s Leap Year Mega Event GCA1DNA - keep the date free - 29th February 2024 - Adelaide South Australia . Can’t wait!!

First stop of the day. Encountered the pukeko on our first day and it seems they have tracking instincts or a good communication setup as we've been followed by many pukeko ever since. Need to check if they're carnivorous or not and ensue I'm not out alone at night. Cheers Firewoof for giving us a reason to stop here.
Another day in the land of the long white cloud. TeamARF, JACSTeam and I headed south to Wellington. Lots of rainy caching but still some awesome caches and spectacular locations. Thanks to all COs!!
Day 6: We ( TeamARF, Gcoven and myself) have travelled over from Brisbane, Australia to have a visit since we were not able to make it to the Mega. We have spent some considerable time solving puzzles and making plans in preparation. We have a gigantic list of old, interesting, highly favourited, challenges and a few Geo-arts to try and collect over the next 10 days. There is a good chance we got lazy with our logging, or space saving depending on the log size and do some joint variation of our initials - TGJ, GJT or JGT.
Today the plan is to work on collecting things of our list - in particular a bunch of great challenges (will check qualifying once home), some massively favoured caches, desired challenge fillings for back home and making a start on the Kiwi Geo-art.
Please excuse the generic log, just have extremely little data to try and survive on it for the 10 days. However, you can be assured that if we have found your cache it was special to us for some reason or in a special location - so thank you for contributing to our holiday.
I will edit logs when back in Brisbane to add more details to those that need more details and of course I will be adding favourite points as I go along.

Love the pūkeko bird colours, so enjoyed heading there with RogerW1nz to the Pukeko’s nest and find this puzzle to solve. Delighted with the presentation being so well done. TFTC
#2367. Day 2 of a short stay at Koitiata aka Turakina Beach with GB Leader. Cached along SH3 today en route to Whanganui, then Castlecliff, then headed back north again up SH3.
This cache was one I had targetted, and I wasn't dissatisfied. The guy at Pukeko's Nest cafe was the first starting point, as I thought I might have to access their garden. So, then the fun began. There is a similar cache to this one near Gisborne, and this one is just as good. Very satisfying to be able to sign the log.
Our 9th find today. Tftc Firewoof - FP of course

This one was a lot of fun! After a few minutes we finally had it opened. Well deserved +1FP!Danke fr den Cache! Thanks for the cache!????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
wonderful cache. great theme and yes I am a fan of the theme. loved this. this is why I go caching. must give you a thumbs up. great end to our time in Whanganui. ps the soapbox Darby was a classic of the vintage weekend. well done whanganui!
Staying in Whanganui for a few nights, we spent a good couple of hours wandering around the Bason botanic gardens, picking up a couple of caches along the way, before a great swim down at Kai Iwi beach. We had noticed this cache with 209 likes (it shall be 210 in a minute or so) that was on our way back, so thought it would be wrong not to check it out.
Once we pulled the car into the car park, junior very quickly found the cache, and figured out the opening part very soon after. Took the next part back to the car to further inspect. Upon a couple of minutes of consideration we had the log in hand and signed. Fantastic cache - one of or top few so far. Easy favourite point from us.
Thanks!

Unfortunately the cafe was closed today, I could have done with a caffeine fix right about now, but at least I could work away without any muggle distraction. Certainly a wonderful cache on many levels, so glad I made the effort to cycle up to here to check it out, FP for sure, cheers
Found with coffee I figured the local staff would know and they do. I've warned them there is an event on today, nearby. Im sure this will be on manys to do list for very good reasons! Well set up, brilliant information and just super enjoyable. A fantastic start to the day and it's most definitely getting another FAV.
Awesome cache while travelling through. Thought it would take me forever and might have to come back but managed to get it on the second attempt! There was a huge spider when I went to put it back which came out of nowhere as I went to close it gave me a big fright. But flicked it off and locked it back up safe. such a cool cache! TFTC!!
#11,704. I am up in Whanganui on a long geocaching weekend with Infoferret. IF headed into the cafe to get a drink leaving me to do this one. She had already signed the log on a previous visit. Scrambled over the pile of cut firewood to reach the box. A bit of a head scratch for the key and then realised where it would be hidden. Then it was into the next layer. Hmm. I have seen something like this before in Wellington. I wondered if it was the same concept. Took a while to get everything sorted and gave it a pull. Voila. Awesome cache in every respect. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache exactly as found. Thanks Firewoof for creating this field puzzle. You are slowly but surely bleeding me dry of favourites.
Loved this hide. Took us a good 20 minutes to finally crack the code. Very smart. Thanks for the fun!

We were grateful that it was still quite early in the day so there was no need to keep looking over our shoulders to see if we were being watched.
WOW, this cache owner is eating through all our favourite points - quickly located the key and accessed the puzzle then took a moment to size up what we had before us!! Soon realised what was required and we were in!! Thank you for the great cache and the effort you have gone to with this cache placement. Well worth another of our dwindling favourite points. TFTC

Exploring Whanganui with Sarahjane20. We've had a great time around town and now it seemed time to come out here. With this many favourite points we just had to try! Awesome cache, and a FP from us too. Tftc
#21063. We soon had the outer container, and took it into the cafe to work out how to get to log. Troodles soon worked out how to open the outer container. Nicely done! TFTC.
Found with StreetWalkerNZ while travelling from Waitara (where we have been staying the past four nights) to Palmerston North. So many caches to find and so little time, so we had to limit ourselves to a pre-determined list.
We drove from Hawera to here with just one stop - to change drivers, so drove past many caches {:(]. This was a must stop as it had so many favourite points. We parked in the cafe carpark, found the cache container then decided we had better buy a coffee to justify our park, and to drink while nutting out the puzzle. Had it sussed before the coffee arrived . Nice one! Wonderful presentation and not too difficult a puzzle. TFTC.

As soon as I pulled it out I thought, “oh know how am I ever going to solve this?”
Turned out the answer was in my hands!
Really nicely constructed and a great cache!
Thanks for the fun!

We are visiting from Christchurch and made a detour to visit this cache after it was highly recommended to us by a previous finder. Great cache, we loved the challenge and the beautifully crafted cache. Well deserving of a favourite point, TFTC!
Wow 198 favourite points. Pity I couldn't be #200.
This was our last find in Whanganui today. My Mum is happy for me to lead the way on our trip to various caches. Most are nothing special but this one and a letterbox one in Gisborne GC8TWH0 were by far the best of our trip. We took photos for our muggle family back home who were also impressed. These types of hides certainly help to explain my obsession with this crazy hobby of finding tuperware in the woods or in road barriers.
A fantastic effort here and another favourite point, thank you

What a great cache! Was pleased to beat the Cryptic Queen to the answer Thanks Firewoof!
What a beautifully constructed and fun cache! B found the location and then we both puzzled over the code. He got there first! TFTC Firewoof.
Another one for my "I love field puzzles" list. And this one is created with so much love and care as well! Enjoyed the two stages. Got lucky that my first solution thought was the correct one.

A well crafted cache. We soon had the first part worked out then the challenge began. Well it would have been a challenge for me but luckily I had malinkaly with me who noticed something straight away and we had success with logbook in hand! Excellent cache deserves a favourite point.
Malinkaly and I planned a road trip to go to the MEGA but Covid has postponed the event again. We decided to continue on with our planned journey making adjustments as we go with the ever-changing travel restrictions.
Greetings from Dunedin!
Thanks for the cache, Firewoof

Team BOP is back on the road this time heading to Taranaki with our sights set on some Labs, some geo-art & everything else in between
Our current incarnation includes Davidson Clan, NZFlossy, McJandals and myself and we’ve signed the cache logs as ‘Team BOP’ to save time and log space. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed the journey as most caches have been found quickly & without fuss thanks to accurate coords and a straight forward placements.
I appreciate there’s a stigma attached to cut’n’paste logs like these so I’ll try to provide cache specific notes retrospectively when I get home. We do genuinely respect the work put into these caches, particularly some of the puzzles, but with a numbers mission like this - the hides start to blur together unfortunately. So Cheers COs, TFTC and most importantly - thanks for bringing us here

On a weekend trip to Taranaki with some of Team BOP. Always lots of fun on these trips targeting cache trails, solved puzzles and high favourites. Thanks to all the cache owners TFTC. Excellent and lots of fun Well worth the stop and a FP
TeamBOP are together again for the long weekend. Philip.Perry, McJandals,NZFlossy and myself are heading to New Plymouth and surrounding areas caching.
A great cache on our way home from a weekend in New Plymouth. FP for this one.

A plan was hatched recently to hit the Naki area this long weekend. Nice to get away and grab a lot of our solved puzzles and ALs plus others along the way. Signed logs Team BoP to save room on log sheets. Wow. Awesome cache. Yip a def fp. Thanks
I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Many Thanks for bringing me here. Cheers.

Picking up a few caches around Whanganui this morning before heading off to New Plymouth. I was advised by my sister-in-law to check out Firewoof caches when we came through Wanganui. I enjoyed Horace Horse and Arles yesterday, and Gilbert Conundrum and Ye Old Jail today, but this one just tops them all. It is just so good - really enjoyed it, obviously scoring another favourite point! Sorry that I don't have time to complete more Firewoof caches, TFTC
With KR. Got lucky as the cafe was closed. That's what happens when you leave Stratford campground at 0900 and do a few along the way so you get here after 1700. Very clever cache. I saw and KR understood. Tftc.
A nice quick find thanks. A very good setup, and I am glad that the cafe was closed at the time. Well crafted cache deserves a fav point.
Ms_KR and I are on our annual pilgrimage to Auckland for our family Christmas. Today is Stratford to Whanganui. Please excuse the generic logs, there have been a few finds and they get muddled up sometimes.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

We are on our summer holiday, we usually take a few weeks and travel around the South Island, but this year we are heading around the North Island. Heading up the West coast and back down the East coast. Finding only a select few caches along the way, we are mostly targeting some challenges we have qualified for, some large size caches, some that fill gaps in our date placed grid, a few D/T combinations, some with lots of favourite points, letterboxes and anything else that grabs our fancy.
I had a fall earlier yesterday so I was now pretty much out of action with a very sore and swelling ankle so gk had to go to find the caches. Although in saying that, with this cache having so many favourites and we parked really close, I hobbled over to see what it was. And gosh am I pleased I did! GK was through the first part immediately then the treat really began. We were both on the same line of thinking as we worked our way through to retrieving the log.
I have seen this type of thing online but never in real life, so it was a really fun experience that absolutely gets a favourite
Thanks for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley.

Whilst Talla64 and I were attending rattl's Christmas Barbecue someone recommended that we do this cache. So the following day, off we went. We were not disappointed! After a bit of pondering and head scratching, there was suddenly a light bulb moment. To our delight the log was suddenly revealed. What a fantastic cache. I wish I was able to give it more than one favourite point. Here comes one anyway. Thanks very much Firewoof for a great cache.
Flowerydaze and I are up in Whanganui for a few days of caching and this one was recommended to us while we were at rattl's Christmas barbecue. While I was looking at the likely hiding place FD had the first part of the problem solved but now came the tricky bit which had us really scratching our heads. After several false starts FD suddenly had that aha moment and hey presto it all came apart. Well worth a FP Firewoof TFTC
After much thought & decifering, finally retrieved log book, to be able to sign. Very clever and great hide set up. Favourite given. TFTC
I was up in Whanganui for work and had a bit of time on my way home. As I was driving past here I stopped for a look. A brief read of the cache page and I realised this would be more interesting than a standard cache container. I figured out what was required quickly and soon had the log book ready to sign. What a really well constructed cache and awesome field puzzle. Awesome, loved it, clever, very well done. This would get more than 1 FP if I was allowed to do that.
One of the coolest caches I’ve found to date. Loved the field puzzle with multiple steps. The final bit took a bit of teamwork for all the pieces to fall in place, but once it clicked, all made sense and the log fell out. Thanks for the awesome experience here. Tftc
I have brought my two tour companions here because I did enjoy finding this cache in 2017. A tricky hide, but one I like and a favourite - I certainly learnt from this one.
Jude_E, NosyNel and I are continuing on our figure of 8 tour of the North Island collecting the ‘Tour’ caches, plus others, plus seeing the scenery, plus having a good old time. TFTC.

Our friend Ethness had already found this one but thought we needed to find it too. I am on a North Island Figure of Eight tour. For the first 4 days I spend time in the Bay of Plenty with my husband JDScout in Rotorua. Now I am on the last day of the eight loop near the end of our loop, driving from Whanganui to Wellington and Jude_E and I are then flying back home to Christchurch. This part is being done with my good friends Ethness and Jude_E.

Ethness, Nosynel and I are on a caching adventure. Last day and we are heading south. Started with a superb cache. Nothing else today will compare I'm sure. Highly recommend to other cachers! Many thanks, Firewoof.

Stopped into to let my daughter attempt this cache and then realised that I had not logged this find from the 9/2/20 so once she had a bit of help to access the log we resigned and dated
Still loved this as much as the first time I found.
Thanks Firewoof for all your time and effort you put into making amazing caches around Wanganui.

Once again, I am up from Wellington for the weekend with a few hours to spare so a few caches I will find. Wow, that was a surprise. I was just working my way around this area and had not noticed how many favorite points this one had, or what might be required for the find. Fortunately I had plenty of time so I read the instructions, procured myself a hot beverage, and made a start. Got through the first hurdle without issue, sat myself down at a nearby table to work on part two - hmmm, I wonder - yup - that was it. A very satisfying cache, well put together. TFTC
Having just completed a very extensive and exhaustive tour right around the South Island, you might be mistaken in thinking that I might have had my fill of Geocaching for a little while, but part of the joy of this hobby is that every day is different and an adventure in its own right.
So today I found myself in Wanganui for a geo-event, after which a handful of us decided to grab a few other choice caches including this one. Once at GZ, my son and I meticulously worked out how to correctly extract the log from the cache and our names were soon added to the sheet.
Thanks for placing this cache. I've been working on something similar myself for a little while, but this is the first of these I've seen in the field. FP gladly given.

This was one of the best caches we’ve ever seen. Having done a few of the CO’s caches we’ve come to expect big things but this one was on a whole new level. Solved it very quickly after reading and considering what it said. FP from us. TFTC!
Awesome! Decided to go on a caching day with the kids ... and then the rain came down! Not wanting to go home without one on the board, we look for the nearest / and this was it. Absolutely brilliant, favourite point from us!
Maintenance run today and a check on this one CRC for the lock and hinges. All in order
Our caching journey with AF-Bee, GeoWench78 and 6ftzp&1/2zip continues here in NZ. We scratched our heads for a little bit than AF-BEE and I came up with it at the Same time. Thanks Firewoof for another excellent cache. Another Heart for you
The puzzle and the "clue" there were so well done. A giant fav. Found with AF BEE, 6ftzpr&1/2zip, and ondago while on a geocaching vacation. Thanks for placing this cache.
We are on a geocaching adventure with ondago, AFBEE and GW78 finding lots of interesting caches along the way including this one that will get a favorite point. Lots of fun here again with Firewoof's caches. TFTFun
OCW GeoWench78, ondago and 6ftzpr&1/2zip between Palmerston North and Taupo...now we know the name or the unique birds we've been seeing around...excellent riddle/puzzle...TFTC!
Just a few 100 meters from our B&B we found this one. Really nice. From us a favo.

Today okayness & I travelled from New Plymouth to Wanganui passing this on the way. When we had to go out later I convinced him to come back. Lucky that I did as he was the one who solved all the stages while I was not so successful. This is superbly crafted and enjoyed the challenge. Favourite added. TFTC
