How interesting the children here at planting in 2003 could be parents themselves. I wonder if they ever think to come back and revisit those enjoyable days.
Follow the gravel road down to the Mokoia School seats on the left. Take the uphill path beside the seat. The cache is beside the next sign. It is a little overgrown but the cache is there! Use the other clues. There are now toilets at the parking area.
No luck today. Well overgrown path and no sign of a cache today.Next time.......

Unfortunately, this was a DNF for us. The track was very poorly maintained and overgrown and the search through wet flax without a helpful hint was arduous, to say the least. In the end, gave up and headed to the next one.
I like the effort that has gone into keeping this cache dry, nice one. Easy find up and off the pathway.
With a preferable weather forecast for the Saturday this weekend, and a little time available for a roadie out Taranaki way I was off out the house at 0600 and back home 12 hours later. My initial (misguided) plan to cache up to Stratford, then back again was adjusted just after lunch and Normanby was the turn-around spot. A good day out and improved my Taranaki stats somewhat with 30-odd real finds and 17 Ad Lab stages (3 completed). Put my big-boy pants on to climb the Hawera water tower (a DNF for the cache though) and a great Earthcache out at Ancient Beaches. Many, many 2 Bulbars caches, thanks Lester, and appreciate the efforts of all COs.

I agree with the cache owner's statement that this is an interesting area. I found it a bit awkward getting to the cache site but the coordinates are accurate and I quickly loacted what I was after. While I wasn't specifically looking for trackables, I didn't notice any in the container.
There are lots of overgrown flax bushes now. The cache is up near the top and is off the track on the left. It is a bit of a scramble to get to. Look for the stones. Hope this helps.
We spent some time looking but had no luck, exacerbated by the younger crew impatiently slipping and sliding around after recent wet weather. No doubt it's there and another look next time will surely come up trumps.
Dropped off travel bug and have left a temporary container as the original was wet. Area overgrown. It is a bit of a scramble up. Look for the first part of the clue.
Had the day off work so headed off for some caching from Whanganui to Hawera. The five caches here were the highlight of the day so far. Loved the walk and all the native plants and birds. Loved the small benches. No adults allowed.
#12,025. A short walk in Hawera, South Taranaki District, Taranaki. Interesting area. GZ was all quiet at the time of our visit. Found after a short search. The cache was in good condition. Although it was a little damp inside, the log remained dry in its plastic bag.

On our return journey from the Lookout. This one was getting closer so I went up the bank and around through the ticket. TS found a path and took that route. Finally get to GZ for a quick snag and tag. Cheers. Joined TS on the path for the return journey to Toby. Great place to visit..
Day 4- Tuesday 17 December. Hawera district today.
Running around the Hawera district today in Toby, while Zara rests up. Checked Manawapou viaduct and Nowells Lakes.
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are spending Christmas exploring Taranaki via geocaching. Its been an amazing 3 week adventure. Rattls BBQ was a great event, meeting many other cachers. But also managed to fit in a few more events, especially New Years Day celebrating the start of 2020. Lots of caches - over 500. Lots of cache maintenance. Lots and lots of kilometers. And lots of amazing places visited along our journey. Mt Taranaki remained elusive for much of our travels and the caches on it at the top. Loved Pukekura Park Night Lights Show and the the Wooden Mechanical toy exhibition at NP Info centre.

Found as a part of a previous group TanjackMüley, aka WanderingSparrow. Now I'm continuing on my own. TFTC
Cache took a few moments to find with a few options and GPS playing games. My partner in crime want close and they had the only pen so we used to pencil but it didn't come out great. Thanks for the cache
nice sized cache on the way back to car, no one around gz and it was quickly signed and returned thanks for the placement
Found by Blenheim Bear on an event trip from New Plymouth to Hawera, glad to get out and about with Juty Bug and TaraTed. Thanks for the cache Blenheim Bear
Yes but which flax Bush, this is the question. Took us quite a while to seek this fellow out. As they say many hands make light work. Tricky find. Many thanks
Took us a good 1/2hr to find this one today. Found in the last place we were going to look. Took TB no sign of other Tb. Thanks
Found today with trayc.g on a trip around these lakes. We loved the ‘children only’ seat and had our photo taken on it. TFTC
Found at 15:35.
Our second trip to New Zealand. This time we explore the North Island for 3 weeks. This was one cache we found.

Found it.. be careful though, the path up is very slippery and there were a few close calls.. lots of little trinkets in this one and a few really random ones... first time I've found a razor in a cache before.
Was here yesterday with my uncle checking out what was here. I didn't know this was here. Quick find. Tftc
Heading over to New Plymouth for a couple of nights for work. I’m leaving today so I don’t have to get up at an ungodly hour tomorrow morning and I’ve got no plans in New Plymouth this evening so it can be a leisurely drive and a few on the way caches.
A smaller detour this time, with the lure of two trackables. Pleasant walk down the gravel track and I’m glad I persevered past the closest point to find the steps. Track a bit slippery but the cache a easy find. Only one trackable in residence, which I swapped for one I have had for a while. TFTC

Charming spot - and what a good idea for getting schools involved. I enjoyed this cache. TFTC
Yep liked this little walk around, scramble up the bank alright then found some steps ha
Easy find. Wasn't hidden very well so just placed some rocks on the top of it. Placed a trackable down there and be cautious it can be slippery
I have set myself a challenge for this year to have at least the same number of caches on each day of my calender as the number of years I have been caching.
Today the target is five but seeing that it is a nice I decided to get a few more. This one was nice wallk on the way to the lakes.
Cheers for the cache.

In the area today and saw three caches out by the beach we though a nice day why not, but once near round Zero the wind was blowing it was cold so on with the coats and jumpers, grabbed some spare logs and plastic bags just encase the need of some maintenance while here as we new there was a bit of walking involved after looking at some of the logs and looking at the GPS. Off we went got to the general area then it was to work out which trail Mr watcache got the correct one, signed the log and placed the cache back where he found it, and somehow we passed each other on the trail but never saw each other. Never min the cache was found TFTC lovely area looking forward to seeing more.
We made our way cautiously up the rather slippery track to the cache which was then a fairly quick find, especially given the hiding plant. TFTC
Here in beautiful NZ with SwagHo visiting vacationing and geocaching around both islands.TFTC
Found after a bit of bush whacking. Interesting non-lake. Here with HennyGeo on holidays from Vancouver Island, BC, Canada in scenic New Zealand TFTC
Found on a weekend trip from Wellington to attend a wedding in Patea.
A last minute grab before festivities began but luckily able to be done in formal wear without getting dirty.

Took the long way home after the Mega. finding lots of caches in new areas. TFTC
Great hide. I remember going here as a primary school student to do some gardening. Was awesome to go back. Tftc
What a beautiful park... the best thing about Geocaching is finding these hidden gems
Finally returned to the lakes during daylight hours to find this cache. Located with the Butterfly and the DDT before moving on to the other nearby caches.
Was hoping to see some monarchs here but none spotted today. Plenty of smaller butterflies, mostly white ones. Made hard work of finding the cache and it was sweltering hot searching. A final check in another area & bingo. Phew. TFTC.
we visited the three caches in this very nice area thanks for placing the caches here otherwise we would never have seen this beautiful gardens
This cache was one of the many caches we found on our 6 day campervan journey from Tauranga to Lower Hutt via Waihi, Cambridge, New Plymouth and along the west coast to Wanganui and back to the Hutt. A mighty and enjoyable journey which took us to many great and iconic parts of the north island and of course some great geocaches. Many thanks to the many CO's for the great cache placements and for bringing us to so many new places. What a great project. Sorry about the generic log but 200 plus to log. TFTC
This took a while and found it after widening my search quite a bit, and must have left plenty of confusing tracks in the long grass! This is a delightful garden / conservation area to visit - it deserves more visitors, thanks Hawera!
Had a short enjoyable walk to the intended GZ, then Hyjynx, Geo-10 and myself span around in a few circles. Weather held out as GPSr finally pointed us to what we sought.
with 3 caches here we had to come down as passing through, only signed 2, will come back for 3rd when we roll on through soon.
Nice views, and enjoyed the walk to the next cache as there was lots to see on the way.
Dropped of TB as this suits its goal more than the next few on my list for the day.
Cheers

My last cache of the night as i was getting a little hungry by now. Walked down to the seats and then looked up. Great view from up here but the mountain still eludes me, maybe one day I will get to see it!
The GPS was all over the place and there were so many flax options but finally found after expanding my search. TFTC!

A mission was needed to complete one of the last few licence challenges on Rangitoto Island, so a passing comment to C&D at an event and this mission was soon planned. We nearly achieved what we set out to accomplish, with only 1 more cache to find to complete the challenge but that was due to miss-reading the fine print on the challenge page.
So with the mission lasting 48 hours we amassed a great set of numbers, 317 caches found, just over 1200km travelled, about 7 hours of sleep, C&D finding his 180th earthcache, completing the KAS powertrail in under 3 hours and finding numerous amazing geocaches. A lot of fun was had along the way, and some great memories were created. A big thanks to everyone for placing all the caches along the way, this mission wouldn't have been as much fun if they weren't there!
Probably took the hard way to the cache, but it wasn't until we found the cache that we found the other path. Thanks for the hide.

Well another mission down the line in what HKCB and I were expecting to be another large caching weekend where numbers were the target, Sleep was for the weak, OCD=commitment , and petrol was a must. We left home at 6pm and headed straight down here to start what was going to be a long couple of days, so with much planning (compliments of HKCB) and a good supply of nourishing caching supplies in the back.
With a total of 1250 kms (just a short drive) and 5 hours of sleep we were definitely going to earn our rest by Sunday evening when we got home. Oh, we even managed to attend an event along the way and meet fellow cachers from the area while in Wanganui.
Now into the start of the last day (daylight part) and a bit more caching to go before we can head for home and a couple of caches that have been targeted since we started the planning for this little escapade.
This was my thirtyith for the day (and two hundred and thirty first for the weekend). Following on from 4 hours sleep, Yeah I know all that caching time lost but have you seen us, we need all the beauty sleep we can muster. No worries about the locals watching us and wondering what we are up to at this time of the day as the roads were all quiet even though we were back on the main road north heading north and have made it as far as Hawera
Thankfully both HKCB and I enjoy caching through the night (and the day), well we have had plenty of experience of it, especially as we are both working on individual challenges, mine being the DGSc Challenge and includes the Night Caching elective.

Giving there were three caches here this was a must stop on the way to NP, even though it was during the heaviest rain of the day.
An interesting spot given what the schools are doing here - great to see. Liked the bug wall.
This was a quick find as got near spot then spied s geotrail that took me to the cache.
TNLNSL. One more of a dozen found on this trip. Thanks for the placement.

10.40am. Drove past the immense dairy factory and out to this gully with a make over. Glimpsed the sea from nearby lookout. What a lot of work has been done here - and by school children too - jolly good effort. Found the cache without difficulty. Left a signature pathtag.
