Outnabout for some solo caching while camping in town overnight. Fav point for this hide. We’re taking the roundabout route to QOGM 2023 at Longreach. It’s always a great day for caching.

For anyone making Geo plans, do yourself a favour and visit Australia’s only current Geotour at Ballarat while it lasts: https://www.geocaching.com/play/geotours/ballarat-victoria

And for anyone that can travel to Longreach, Queensland, late September 2023, Google “QOGM” which is the Queensland Outback Geocaching Muster. You’ll have at least 8 or 9 days of pure geocaching fun with around 200 like minded people attending a mix of events and access to over 200 geocaches placed by the QOGM team. It’s not a Mega, it’s better.

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 79. Charters Towers Day 2. Today was supposed to be a shorter day doing the remaining caches around town I could get to. It turned unto a marathon of long multis zig zaging all over town with a dash way out to the south for one final location. I then had to out wait a ground staff person so I could make a dramatic climb to my last cache of the day. Lots of success, but it all took so much longer than expected.

Without a printer, I managed to do this one free hand last night. The actual cache went smoothly as well. I am happy when these things work as expected.

Thanks for the cache Cachedin NQ

We decided to start caching a little bit earlier than usual - best decision ever as it started showering later in the morning and then it just rained all afternoon.
We completed the tribe series as well as many other interesting caches north of Charters Towers.
Thanks to the CO's for placing these caches.

Found as part of the Qld Cache mega event weekend in Townsville over Easter 2022. Joined forces with Gunnie69 after flying up from Brisbane to tackle a variety of caches around the Townsville area including three GeoArt series, other puzzles and a few labs! I would like to thank all the cache owners who are making this an enjoyable weekend! Big Grin

Today we trekked out along the Flinders Highway to the historical town of Charters Towers. Enjoyed some of the sights, old buildings, occasional wildlife and of course lunch at a local pub!

A smiley has been added to the cache! Big Grin

Only one option for GZ when Ghostgums and I pulled up for this one, so the cache was quickly spotted and retrieved. Ghostgums took care of business and added our names to the log, while I returned to the car and set-up for the next on the list.

Like all geocachers, I’m taking the scenic, slow route to Townsville. Along the way we detoured for, amongst many others, this geocache.

Having solved a lot of puzzles prior to the trip, we tried to find as many as we could.

We must have solved this some time ago as it wasn't part of the puzzle solving frenzy before this roadtrip. So it was great to be finally rolling up to GZ. Or was it..... ? These locations are renowned for having a lot of hides. Thanks to whoever left the stick which confirmed my suspicions. Then again, it could have just been a random stick... TFTC Cachedin NQ.

Straight forward find close to where the GPSr had us. Always good to find the cache when you have gone to the trouble to solve the puzzle.

Our first full day in Charters Towers, and we decided to head out reasonably early as it is forecast to be quite warm. We targeted a variety of cache types including Adventure Lab, puzzle, traditional multi and Wherigo. All successful with no DNFs. Even managed to pick up one we think we looked for but could not find last time we were here.
What a lovely old town Charters Towers is. We particularly like seeing the range of old buildings on offer.
Thank you to the local COs for developing and maintaining the caches for us to find. It is much appreciated.

Staying in Charters Towers so headed out to grab some caches in the area. I arrived at my calculated GZ for this one and then after reading the description noted that it had changed since I solved the puzzle. I contacted the CO whoadvised that I had the old coords and was kind enough to help me out. Once at the new GZ the search began and it wasn't long before the cache was in hand

Once the log was signed all was returned as found.

Day 18 of my trip north from Adelaide.

Today was spent caching and sightseeing around Charters Towers. I had picked out the multis, puzzles, wherigos and traditional caches that I was keen to do and picked up a few other opportunistic traditional caches along the way. I also completed the new Lab caches in town.

All in all it was as a very pleasant day, with a cool morning and a relatively mild day, which made things much easier and more enjoyable. In all I managed to find 7 puzzles, 9 multis, 3 wherigos, 13 traditionals and an earthcache for a total of 33 caches for the day (plus the Lab caches). I only had one DNF.

I spent quite a bit of time over the past few months solving puzzles, including this one, in preparation for my trip.

Thanks Cachedin NQ for the puzzle and the cache.

For the last 2 days we have covered the four corners of the region.

We have moved the final location to closer to the listed coordinates. Also upgraded the container to small from nano. Puzzle has been updated, if you have the old solution message us and we will swap it for the new one, or just solve it again!

After 7.5 years we are going to investigate options to move our first puzzle to a new final location, make the container larger, closer to the listed coordinates, retain the puzzle type and open up some cache options in the CBD.

Quick find after finally printing out the crossword and working out the coordinates. Have come across a number of crossword puzzles playing this game and love the variety they bring. This is my last hide in the Towers that I can look for as Narnia was missing the last weekend I was here. I did leave a happy new year find for the locals to fight over for the FTF but it seems only one was in town and up for the challenge. Thanks for the hide.

Caching in and around Charters Towers and surrounds we picked up a few caches and this was one of them.

Once we worked through the puzzle Mrs "T" came up with a set of co-ords that worked for us. Cache and contents were in good condition.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

Staying a few nights in Charters Towers this morning we visited the library to learn about the archives section to hopefully trace some family history here from the Pioneer days.

Once it was determined that we had to return tomorrow then it was out and about exploring town using your Geocache as part of our tour.

With no geochecker solving this before our arrival, we were nervous that we had the wrong maths. On arriving at GZ though it all made sense and cache was found.

We worked out the coordinates last night after dinner at a rest area between Hughenden and Charters Towers. It took a bit but it was not too hard.
Today we had a sightseeing walk in town so we picked up the cache. It took a few minutes until we have found it. We discovered it after the second time we had a look at this place.
Thanks for showing. Tftc

TFTC. We had solved this puzzle while house sitting in Mareeba. We were driving through Charters Towers today and seemed like a good opportunity to collect. As it turned out the GZ was close to where we needed to stop to purchase gas. Two for the price of one.

We're still meandering across northern Australia after attending the Red Centre Experience over Easter. Now in Charters Towers, I had the day to myself, so I planned a route that would see me find a mixture of traditional, multi and mystery caches.
It turned out to be a huge day as I visited over 30 sites but only about 14 of them were caches, the rest were gathering information for the multis.
I had workedvout the final coordinates for this cache so worked it into my itinerary. However, I outsmarted myself by presuming where it would be, and I was wrong - again! Back to the car to grab Monty, aka my GPSr, and followed him to the GZ. It was still quite difficult to retrieve as I am vertically challenged, but eventually I had CIH, added my name to the log and returned the cache to its hidey hole. TFTC

03-Aug-17
Cleaning up a couple of more caches before leaving town, particularly multi's as they are with more tokens in the Geocaching Pirate hunt this week we then headed towards Ayr caching our way along.

We worked this one out last night while in camp knowing we were going to be in Charters Towers for the night. We tried for this one yesterday afternoon but didn't have a chance to look with all the muggles around so we got up early this morning and came back when the coast was clear and the cache was a nice easy find and the log book now contains our name.

Thanks Cachedin NQ the puzzle and the hide.

One of the disadvantages of organising a caching trip a few months ahead is that you get the odd one like this one that you have solved prior to leaving and searched for when arriving and it is out of action. Perhaps its time we went to paperless caching and got ourselves a geocaching app.
Thanks for all the other caches you have placed though Cachedin NQ that we did find.

We have been spending a week in Charters Towers and grabbing some caches while we tour around.

Woohoo!! A puzzle cache that we can actually solve...and we did this while enjoying breakfast at the Stock Exchange Cafe early this morning after grabbing a couple of 'after hours' findsRazz

Oops!!...I made a mistake with one of the numbers and we ended up on the opposite side of town so a quick recheck...and then back into town again to make the findBig Grin

So many multis...and so many nanos at least that helps the caches to stay relatively muggle freeTwisted

Many thanks Cachedin NQ...this one gets a favourite point from us as we were actually able to solve itBig Grin[^][^]

Traveled out to Charters Towers with Jackylegs44 for a day of caching. Solved the puzzle the day before during a slow period at work. After a brief search, I had the cache in hand.

After solving the easy puzzle, I went to look for the cache today. When I arrived at the coordinates, it was quite obvious that I was at the correct location. Now I just had to find the cache... which didn't take too long either.

In our quest to find all the school related caches in our area during the first week of our last babys first year of schooling, it didnt take long to find this one. We had previously sat and worked out the puzzle ( after searching for it and not realising it was in the photos!.. lol) so going to the site was easy. Reaching the dam thing however was not! Lucky I had geoferal no. 2 with me who isnt vertically challenged like his mother and he reached it down for me! Tftf and the interesting school facts! Smile

Found at 11:57 AM GAFF1. This was a satisfying cache as it was worked out at home a few weeks ago with the intention of finding it when we went through CT. And today it all happened. An interesting cache container and what is more an interesting piece of architecture - why were the weather boards only placed on the inside? We have seen a few buildings with this system and can only think that it was because there was a shortage of materials - it must be hot inside with only a board thickness to the outside [?]
Thanks Cachedin NQ.

I had a bit of fun around the campfire last night solving this puzzle.
It seemed very straightforward at first, but just a couple of numbers didn't seem quite right [:o]
So I had to start again and solve the puzzle properly Red Face

Sure enough this morning I found me way to GZ and amongst the gathered crowds of builders and wanna be builders, I managed to grab the cache Razz
I wandered off down the street a bit to extract the log page.
I kept wandering for quite a bit more to extract the log page.
Damn it wouldn't come out [:o]

I finally found a twig lying around with the right shaped prongs on it to release the vice like grip of the container on log.
It's mine all mine !!
OK!! A quick stroll back past GZ and the cache was back in place Big Grin
