Well . . I doubt there's been much need of a fishing rod around here for quite a while so I guess fishin' for caches is the next best thing. The cache was easy to find so once the log was duly signed we then continued north towards Lake Albacutya.

Nice easy find but I think "bring ya rod" is a bit hopeful.

Quick find, loved the camp-fire in a bag trade but had no swaps today. Thanks for the cache!

Day #9 of the Birthday Bush Bonanza. After a night of camping at Western Beach, the rain has cleared and it’s time for some sand dune driving through Wyperfeld National Park. My first 4WD trip with The Tritonz group

After leaving two cars to return to camp who had already completed these caches, the 5 remaining vehicles headed off to find and sign a few more.

Having heard the tales of micaparamedic slipping and sliding here the day before in the wet, we had a completely opposite experience and drove almost straight to the cache on hard ground. Amazing what a little sun can do!

The cache has been signed as “4WD group” for lack of something more creative and to save log space. The group included Bucketeer, Chooknchunk, Gemma & Luke Sistema, Geoturtle37, OzHockeyChick, Papi4506, Phetlern, Posums, Micaparamedic, RoamingHowie, & last but definitely not least TheTritonz. A couple had already separately logged these caches.

Thanks tackle_head for the cache and for contributing to the game.

The 4x4 bit over for the day, we decided to increase our tally.
For economy of log space we signed in as "4WD Group", Bucketeer, Chooknchunk, Gemma & Luke Sistema, Geoturtle37, OzHockeyChick, Papi4506, Phetlern, Posums, RoamingHowie and the flag bearers Micaparamedic & The_Tritonz.
A 'different' tackle_head placement!

Thanks tackle_head for placing caches for everyone's enjoyment.

A few of the group had already done these but the rest of us took the detour so that we could get smilies here also. Thanks for placing this for us to find.

This was a nice quick find for us today. Not all of us had continued on here as some had previously found the cache. Thank you for bringing us here.

Finally off on my 4 day weekend away to catch up with some fellow cachers and good friends around Wyperfeld National Park.
I headed up the Calder, turned west at Charlton and meandered around the back roads around a lake or two through a couple of country towns to get to my destination for the night which is Lake Albacutya and to met up with the rest of the crazy gang to spend the weekend up around here.
The weather is not the best up this way but we can only hope the tracks will be fine to drive on.
After a great night around the camp fire with a couple of drinks and plenty of laughs we put up the sand flags formed the convoy and headed off for a great day organised by the great Tritonz who do a great job in organising these fantastic weekends away.
I was joined by a couple of trusty co pilots for the day which were Gemma and Luke which saved me from having to grab the mic every so often.
Plenty of laughs in the Geocruiser and over the airwaves as we made our way along the tracks.
We finally got back to civilisation after a great day on the tracks and we had some country roads to travel on to find a few more.
This was the last cache for the day and some of the teams had already returned to camp as they had already found this one.
Since it had started to dry out with the sun that was now shining we were able to get fairly close to this one.
Another lake that I didn’t need to get the rod out and try for a bite as again there was no water to be seen.
Signed as 4WD Group.

Thanks tackle_head TFTC.

Day 3 of our five-day escape to Wyperfeld NP for some caching and 4WDing fun with our geo-friends.

After returning back from a full day on Pella, Chinamans Well and Milmed Tracks, some of our group headed back to camp at Western Beach (because they had already done this and the Pella caches) and the rest of us went on to explore.

Being wary of micaparamedic's tale of slipping and sliding on the track in only yesterday, we cautiously made our way in, but it's amazing what a single dry day brings. Today the track was fine, not slippery at all. We forgot to bring our rods though, but it didn't matter as the lake was bone dry.

TFTC tackle_head. All in good condition there.

My first 4x4 camping trip with this group, exploring all over Big Desert. Sebastian is not quite equipped for deep soft sand, so I hitched a ride in RoamingHowie’s GeoRanger.
Day 1: After camping last night at Western Beach, Lake Albacutya, today’s plan was to do the Milmed Track & Pella Track.
On our way back to camp we stopped here to launch a group attack on this cache.
No water here today, but the sun is out, so thanks for bringing us here today by placing this cache, tackle_head

Final cache of the day for me before returning to camp. We lost some folk here who had previously found it. Quick find. Amazing what's around the traps here. Thanks for the cache.

Overnighted at Western Beach Camping Area and headed out early in the light drizzle. It had rained on and off overnight which I was going to find out, made the road in to this cache quite interesting. The roads in to Ross Lake were sandy with patches of gravel. The further in I went, the road surface changed to a wet, sticky clay which filled the treads quickly changing my tyres into slicks with the associated slipping and sliding. I managed to park up, or maybe I slide to a stop and walk the last little distance to GZ. The cache was found quickly and in very good condition considering it hadn't been found for over 18 months. Thanks tackle_head for placing this cache.

Stopped by while taking the scenic route to a couple of events in Murray Sunset NP.
I arrived well after sunset but still enjoyed searching the area by the light of a near full moon.
The fishing wasn't too good here today.

Find #1033 @10:50

We camped nearby overnight for the Australia Day weekend. This was our first stop of the day and a great secluded find. Left a pencil pack and a handmade ‘camp in a bag’ - Thanks for the adventure!

Found at 2:15 PM GAFF1.
From No. 33 we took the most direct route and zoomed along the "Freeway Track" right through the middle of the lake. There were a few soft spots, but they were no trouble at all and we were on the other side within 25 minutes. We then managed to find the correct tracks that led us straight to the cache and with very good co-ords we found the cache straight away.
We are loving this area and the challenge in finding these out of the way caches.

11/10/2018 - 2.44pm - Find No. 987 - 4th of 6 finds & 1 DNF for the day - out & about on a clear day with Nom234. The day was clear & with our leaving in sight for the next day it was decided to take another drive round the area finding things but being mindful that there had been rain recently so avoidance of know very slippy roads was foremost in the drivers mind until information was received that the roads had dried up quickly & if we did have problems & got bogged help was closeish to hand. Thanks for the offer Col but we had no trouble Big Grin
My driver did her helpful at her caches or ones she's found ... I navigate, she drives & lets me count down distance to where we need to be but parks away a fair bit so I have to do the finding part without assistance & I also get the job of checking for creatures that might have taken up residence, then she wanders across to see what swag might be left in the container & if it needs to be topped up. I suppose that's a division of labour.
I always try to use caution when uncovering/retrieving caches ... it brings to mind the time I was incautious & found some bullant cache guardians! Don't want that to happen ever again, ouchy, ouch that was! Wouldn't have been really happy if there had been 'dangerous animals' either! Luckily we saw none of those this day.
We had noticed a vehicle up the way a bit as we turned off to the 2 previous caches & ended up visiting the nearby used structure for a bit of a look & a listen to the car owners practice on the organ Cool What a great bit of timing! It cut down finding time but we didn't mind one bit! After some chatting, photoing, listening & even a little go on the organ Wink It's so long since I played anything it was hard to think of anything to actually do but a bit of random note playing & a location appropriate song (one handed cos I didn't want to make a hash of trying to remember what notes my other hand should play). Maybe I need to find a bit of the things I used to play & find something to practice on when I get home?
Our Emu tally started with a slow wandering family group at one of our detours between finds. There were lots of other birds around too to pique our interest. Hmmm that's right this was the cache that the Leaping Bounder crossed our path as we headed back to the main road. Almost became a hood ornament ... welllll ... it wasn't really that close but enough to make us slow down more than the slow pace we were going & watch the pedestrian bound across the nearby paddock & the others stay in the bush on the bushy side.
Ok .. back to the cache ... We drove around some ... looking at gullies, trees & the like & then decided we'd head the direction needed to do the hunting bit. We parked, did some more non-cache looking & 'check out that dead tree ... it looks like ... something... '. Photo will be attached Smile
I found the cache, photoed it, signed log & a discussion was had about the cracked container ... so out came N's trusty bag of containers & an appropriate sized container was retrieved. Contents of old cache was transferred across & new container was returned to it's hide with a bit more camo on top to keep the sun away. Hope the CO doesn't mind the maintenance we did ... ? ... Thanks for the cache & for bringing us here Big Grin

Mr Morris headed up to Rainbow for a few days of beer, blokes and bikes. The weather was good, the beer was cold and the caches were fun.

There should be a challenge cache for this series - they are everywhere. Actually it could be an Australia Wide Series.
Thanks for adding to the fun tackle_head

The tracks in were slippery after the torrrential rain last night but nothing the Cruiser couldn't handle. We brought our Rod but didn't catch a fish , luckily we caught the cache instead Smile

A very dry lake out here, and in this country 4WD is everything.

A quick find by Pacman while Bentley had a run around.

Cheers and thanks for taking me here Tacklehead!

This weekend had been earmarked for some adventurous exploits in the Big Desert Wilderness Park with Jacko83, aiming to find a few relatively remote caches. Along the way we explored some of the smaller country towns, discovered interesting locations... and found a few caches Big Grin!

After tackling the Wilderness Area on Saturday morning we made our way out via the Wyperfeld Park to Lake Albacutya in the afternoon. After 3 hours of soft sand it was a gentle change in terrain here, and a quick find at GZ.
Thanks, Tackle Head.

There was no point in bringing the rod today as the fish clearly weren't biting, managed to find a cache though which was nice. The terrain rating wasn't as challenging today as we could drive right up to the gz. Thanks tackle head for the cache.

I don't think we would've got much out of the lake today... just some bird life around and about, and a tank. Must've blown in from somewhere. Thanks for the hide and bringing us here.

Find # 2363 @ 1202 H

I decided at a good road trip was in order, after having a look over the map I decided on heading up this way for a gander at the goods.
The temp looked like it was going to be ok for the day and it look like all the rain had passed from the late week deluge we had around town (St.Arnaud)

By the end of the day I had racked up 28 finds, No DNFs Smile and almost 550ks under my bum.

Having a Standard height ute I thought I was going to have a little trouble getting into GZ but thankfully with a little knowledge of travelling over rough roads (and a little luck) I managed to get my old Ford BA to within 70m of GZ. Phew not the nerves have gone. After signing the log and admiring the dry lake I was off. the same road I came in and riding the high road I had a lot of fun out here.

Not a lot of use bringing a fishing rod to the lake today. We do wonder when the last time was that the lake had water in it? The cache is in good condition. SL TFTC

A very nice spot for a picnic. So after signing the log, we sat enjoying the peace and quiet for a while and had Doritos and Dip and a couple of strongbows... Wink Thanks for the cache. Very Happy

Out with Geogran1937 to find this and one other cache, this one was somewhat further from the road than I anticipated but we eventually got there and signed the log. As the log book wasn't in a zip bag I fitted it with one. (I trust this wasn't too much interference)

I nearly made it to here but chickened out as it was virtually dark and the large amounts of recent rain made me wimp out. I thought it would be a long walk to borrow a tractor if I got bogged out here. The backroads from Pella were bad enough without heading into the forest. I was relieved to find bitumen as the sunset and more rain came. Maybe next time.

30-Jun-13
This was the 10th cache for the day. Nothing like taking off in the ute nice and early to take on some of the caches to the northwest of home.

This one was a little bit of an adventure to get here. The tracks through were solid, sort of, but a bit of rain a few days before left some puddles and feeling that perhaps that track isn't as solid as I would like it to be.

Having a high clearance vehicle and remembering that momentum was my friend getting there (in the end) wasn't an issue.

I did bring my rod, shame I forgot to bring the water too.

TFTC tackle_head, I had a ball getting out here, and one day when there is water here I hope to take my daughter out here to wet a line.
