TFTC

On our 36th day in New Zealand we stayed in Whakatane and were looking at the area and the lovely beaches. We enjoyed this lazy day very much and searched again for some caches.
After being at the beach we went for a walk in this lovely forest. It's really a nice track. We were first all alone and suddenly the people came from all directions! But we could easily look for all the caches. Except one there were all quick and easy finds. Thanks for showing this nice track.

Quite a long way uphill to this cache, but it was then a fairly quick find. We were accompanied for the last part by two young boys who had got ahead of their mother, and who knew there was a cache there. TFTC
Today we had our third day in Whakatane, again at the route of the Pacific Coast Highway, thereby visiting Ohope and many other sightseeing locations and looking for caches, too. On this trip we searched, found and logged a lot of caches. The weather was rather good all day long, not so sunny but it got warmer in the afternoon. Clouds and some wind were our compagnions especially in the afternoon.
Almost no muggels observed us as they had other things to do than observing harmless geocachers.
Thanks to Mac Ross for showing us this location and for the fun we had at Summit Junction (Bay of PLenty). The search we had here today didn't take too much time.
Greetings from Germany and hope to see you soon in the forest.

#744 - In Whakatane To drop the boy off with the Grandparents for some of the school holidays. Yay doing some kid-free geocaching, and we made it to the summit. Nice hide thanks.
Walked up beach from Maraetotara reserve. Quick walk up hill had all 6 caches in hand. Tftc
A bit of a tricky find as the co-ordinates aren't brilliant, especially with the tree cover, it's offset quite a way from the trail and there are a LOT of kanukas here. The one it's hidden by is not so much a kanuka now as an ex-kanuka. In the words of the parrot sketch - it has ceased to be. Got there in the end though and I certainly wasn't going back down that damn hill empty-handed! TFTC.
Did not know what a kenuka was. Looked it up but it didnt realy help as I found the cach 15m of the GPS position at the base of a dead tree which might or might not be the specified one. Still a good find. Thanx
I really enjoyed my walk here. I was geocaching with Al.got.stories and Ruta.got.stories in the darkness, as we were also looking for kiwis! No kiwi found, but we found this lively geocache!
Stairs, stairs and more stairs! My poor lungs just about did me in on this one but we were determined to find all the caches along this trail. I was beyond delighted to find the seat at the summit and have a bit of a rest before looking for this cache. Had a good look around before spotting the right hint item but thankfully all the muggles arrived after we'd already signed and returned the log. Thanks for bringing us up here.
I can never accurately identify trees, so I just wandered around following the GPS until I finally got to the right one.
Afterwards, while I was sitting down at the top to rest a bit, several groups of walkers came by. This is a busy place in the morning. TFTC.

Enjoyed the night walk around - heard pigs, no kiwis spotted.
Took a bit of searching / bush bashing to find this one.

A steep climb up to the summit from the western side. We sat on the seat at the junction to get our breaths back before getting amongst and finding. GPS was useless due to the tree cover but we got lucky and found the cache quite easily as we went from tree to tree using the hint. All good here, TFTC!
Many hint objects to check out, but got there in the end. TFTC Oh I seem to have lost my pen since the last cache so couldn't sign the log. TFTC
A rare trip over from Tauranga with the missus.
Gave up on GPS as it was pointing in a different location, so concentrated on finding the trees.

It took a while to find this one! Sat on the bench and contemplated giving up for a while before deciding to search an area that I thought I'd already checked and finding it. Thanks
A half year ago we - McMuffin, Flitzpiepe, LE Surfy and I - started with the concrete plans for our holidays in New Zealand . The flights and the campervan were booked, the hotels in Auckland and Christchurch were selected and the route was planned . On 16.2.2017 we started our journey and arrived on 18.2.2017 in Auckland, a little bit tired, but very excited. The baggage was given in the hotel and we already went on sightseeing and seeking caches. Of course, we visited at the harbor, walked through the streets and had a look over Auckland from the top of the Skytower.
On 19.2.2017 started our campervan adventure . First we drove to Coromandel Peninsula. I like the Driving Creek Railway, the New Chum Beach and the Cathedral Cove very much.
Then we drove criss-cross the North Island. At first we visited Hobbiton, we saw the glowworm caves and stopped at the imposing Mount Taranaki .
The route took us back to the Tongariro National Park, to Lake Taupo and to Rotorua. The hot springs and geysers are really impressive. We also stopped at the Huka Falls. It was great .
Of course we found some nice caches. We stopped our tour for this little trail, found all caches and had a beautiful day.
Thanks for the cache and many greetings, Iliona

Sometimes it would be good to know the names of plants. But at least we found this cache and now we know.
Thank you

Puh, that was quite a climb up there, but the bush was new and interesting for us.
After a longer break we started our way down the hill.
Thanks!

Really enjoyed this walk, some fine specimens of native trees and some well designed caches by Mac Ross. A belated log, 10 weeks late. Have had too much else to do recently. Found with Edvern and Tramper Ted.
Found with Tramper Ted and Mapper Ted. Coordinates were very good and enjoying this walk very much, thanks Mac Ross.
Found with Edvern and Mapper Ted. Great spot with a seat even. Good co-ords meant we had the cache in hand quite quickly. Excellent track. TFTC

The walk up to the summit is a great stroll through the forests
And like any stroll in New Zealand,
involved some up-hilliness
No such thing as a flat walk in the shaky isles [:o)]
Up at the top at last,
and the drizzle had stopped and the sun threatened to shine
I do love the way the weather changes so quickly here [:X]
Where's that pesky cache ? [:o]
Fortunately I have wandered enough forest trails in NZ to know what a Kanuka is,
and more importantly,
what it looks like
There are lots of them here !! [:o]
But only one big one [^]
And that's where I found the cache
All down hill from here back to the beach

Found an area which looked like nature was used to conceal the cache and there it was.
Found while attending a conference in Whakatane and staying at Ohope Beach. GPS caused headaches on most of caches along this track - this one was a bit quicker, but still had to rely on the clue. Great to get to the top.
Somehow I'd talked the family into caching with me on this grey and wet day. We were a little tired by the time we got here so I was thankful for a quick find. I got a little side tracked with a DOC placement but now my family had caught up and rested it was time to move on. Good to know it's all down hill from here cheers Mac Ross TFTC.

We're visiting from Florida, USA. That was great fun. Thanks for placing the cache.
Thought we had it in the bag then discovered there was more than one kanuka. And a good one too, thanks for the extra challenge.
Beautiful day for a walk, bloody hot though. Enjoyed the scenery with astarinthesky and MsKittyCat.
I found this one after a while, trees were affecting the gps a lot here today.

Ninalila and I have few days off to visit Whakatane, Opotiki, Gisborne and Napier.
During those days we enjoyed a lot of different calm and beautiful places, views and landscapes.
At the same time we enjoyed our time with geocaching to find good spots so we can discover things we don't usualy see when you travel at touristic places
We logged with our team name : Lekiprokos

My geo nose was onto this one. Thank goodness as its time to head back to tauranga. Thanks
One of the many caches we found on our campervan journey from Lower Hutt to Tauranga. A mighty and enjoyable journey through many great and iconic parts of the north island. Many thanks to the many CO's for the great cache placements and for bringing us to new places. Sorry for the generic log.
Few of us have up for this one after missing a cache on the way up but Mums never give up. Tftc
We felt we needed a bit of more of a workout instead of lazing on the beach so thought we would try a few of these. This was a nice easy find while enjoying a nice bushwalk. TFTC.
#444 Geofamily decided on tackling the summit trail today with the 6 caches. GeoDad found this one when both GeoKids wanted to sit down nearby after tackling the mountain of steps on way up. Cache in good order.

The end of my holiday is here, and I arrived in Whakatane for a week of working. After rushing to beat Cyclone Pam we had time to come over the hill to Ohope and explore - been meaning to do this walk for a while - great chance today. After a tour yesterday I knew what tree I was looking for - spotted a likely suspect and soon had the cache. TFTC
Generic log for a really enjoyable loop walk, and picking up the caches on our way. Too hot for the beach! so went for a walk in the bush instead. Younger EU crew were quieter by this time! TFTC
TFTC. Now we must stop ...even though 2 of us would like to go further... just one more??
Logic ruled out the closest ones and logic led us to the right one. Nice spot for a rest. TFTC
Had us on the wrong side of the track at first but it wasn't long before we had it in hand. TFTC
