Decided to check on this and discovered that it was missing!Cache replaced.GOOD TO GO...

13-Mar-24
We are still taking the opportunity of this warm weather to explore some more of the Cotter areas. With the water levels low, and the water at a perfect refreshing temperature on a warm day, it was an easy walk across a few pebbly rocks below us to arrive at the island. We spent quite some time on the island, looking and searching in all possible places but nothing that we could see here today. Despite not finding the Hide, the short walk across the water was a joy anyway. Thanks Tankengine. We will check again some other time.Domsky

I’ve come to attempt this one on at least three occasions but the water was always too fast and cold. Today I returned with others and #4 of Search 4 braved the chill for the find.

Beautiful spot

This geocacher reported that the container is damaged.

I scouted out this GZ after a nearby event many months ago. I purposely chose to delay the find until I could return here in a picnic date with #1 of Search 4. Today was a perfect day for it but unfortunately we did not make the find. There were muggles sitting at the nearby picnic table and the recent rains have caused the water levels to be higher and faster than I am comfortable wading through.
We will just need to come back for another date.

21-Dec-20
Muggle hubby decided to go for a walk across the water today. Despite being fast paced, the water was a lovely temp. TFTC TE.

17-Sep-20
The water was a bit lower today making access easy. A straightforward find & signing at GZ. A really pretty part of the river - thanks tankengine!

Silvereyes and I had our lunch at this lovely place. Being more sure footed than me, Silvereyes and her two sticks negotiated the way to this cache. Thank you Tankengine for the cache at this great spot.

Nice hiding place

Thanks for the cache

25-Apr-19
We decided to have a look for a few caches around this beautiful picnic area before making a decision about where to have our lunch. I had actually wanted to drive much further south, but we had made a late start on the day.

We saw this cache wasn't far from where we were able to park, so we took the stroll down towards the river. There I realised I was on the wrong side of the water, so we continued our stroll a bit further along to the bridge. Soon I was at GZ and the search could begin.

By now I should have been more accustomed to a Tankengine cache container, but somehow I was still looking in the wrong places before finally making the find. Round and round we went, checking lots of hiding holes but finding zilch. Finally, I did what I should have done earlier, and there was the cache container.

All is well here. We signed the log and put things back as found. Hmmm, enough time to have a look for another one nearby ...

Nice find in a beautiful spot TFTC

25-Nov-18
On our walking way to this one, we espied some darling baby water dragons by the rock fall, and a perfect spot for a lunch break. No wet booties for me, as I nimbled it across the rocky causeway. Muggle hubby also gingerly crossed to the little island, and quite quickly spotted the small cache. Good hide. Should be safe from any high tides. TFTC TankEngine

01-Oct-18
Well, yesterday I was standing beside the Cotter Dam, looking across at a rather prominent hill, thinking I must walk up it one day. Fast forward less than 24 hours and I'm doing just that. Hooray for beautiful Spring weather and public holidays! That ascent led spontaneously to a whole lot of walking and finding interesting caches, with the occasional blackberry scratch, nerve racking downward climb and near encounter with feral pigs thrown in. A fantastic day walking in the hills and the pine forest.

During the previous day's visit I had DNF'd this. A check-in with a previously finding friend revealed my error - a misinterpretation of the clue so a search at the wrong level. Armed with this awareness I returned today to make an easy find. The river level is low, so over the two visits I probably made eight crossings to and from the island - expanding the search, deciding to leave my gear on the mainland, returning to get my gear and so on - all without getting wet at all. Easy! TFTC Smile

30-Sep-18
Another glorious day and the vast array of caches on offer at the Cotter beckoned. I wandered around without any real plan, just seeing where the day led me. Found most of what I was looking for and had a generally lovely time.

Well, I wondered here after visiting the apparently missing Cotter Caves cache. I made it across the water without drama and then managed to not find the cache. Back home I checked with a previous finder and it seems I was kind of at the wrong level. So now I'll have to go back! Tomorrow maybe...

Found at 1:50:00 PM

I wandered over from the other side of the river and made it across to the island with ease. It would have been a different story six months ago. Cache was found easily.

Thanks Tankengine

27-Jan-18
Caching with TheSkype today in the cotter, it wasn't a easy day, humid, lots of walking and muggles. This required a short walk over a section of the river, cache found quickly. Tftc.

#2389 Found at 11am on a hot cloudy day. 2 of 11. The water was low, so I was able to step on the rocks and get to GZ. Saw a family nearby with almost a dozen inflatable water toys! Quick find with Green-martian and Duffco. Thanks Tankengine.

30-Dec-17
Finally able to turn this frown upside down. Came months ago and it was missing, to which it was promptly replaced. But today was nice a warm, so out with Youban and made the chilly, slippery walk across. Tftc!!!

30-Dec-17
Out with dty73 on a cool morning gathering caches on the way. This one had an interesting GZ. Water cold, rocks slippery, blackberries spiky. Log signed. Kutgw

25-Dec-17
The bushwalking club had a short walk and Christmas Day picnic lunch at the Cotter. Afterwards, I sought out a couple of nearby Tankengine geocaches. Both were straightforward finds being right on the coordinates and, in spite of the crowds of Christmas Day picnickers, I had these spots to myself. Thank you Tankengine for installing and maintaining these caches.

26-Nov-17
I was at the Cotter for a picnic. Thought I might grab a cache. This one was nearby so I went for it. Took me a while to get to GZ because I didn't want to get wet. In the end I just bit the bullet and got wet. At GZ I took a few minutes to find the cache. Added my nom de cache to the logbook.
Thx TE.

Ooooh, that was cold. It didn't help the dam was overflowing as well. TNLNSL TFTC

29-Jul-17
Found while on a cotter run with Froggycache

Hunted around, estimated where it might be based on the fact that most of GZ will go underwater at times. Eventually found!

Still have wet feet from slipping after crossing back to the side of the river

TFTC TE!

Out with Andrewbt this afternoon. Lots of places to look, until you realise that the area floods from time to time so it pays to secure accordingly. Andrewbt spotted after about 5 minutes.

TFTC Tankengine.

Another good cache found in the Cotter Dam area today. We're going to have to return to find some more! This was a fun one, and required a bit of wading. The water was icy cold but it added to the fun! Fav point awarded. TFTC!

Love finding Tankengine caches and this was no exception. Had a wonderful picnic and then collected the nearby cache.

25-Mar-17
Darzee Di and I had a Scout catchup to attend this evening and we had enough time after this afternoon's event to have another go at grabbing this cache. I thought the river might have been up to high to attempt retrieval but the water was only shin deep. So we rolled up our jeans and made a way to gz without falling in. A branch has come down and fallen between the two trees but didn't get in the way of our search. Thanks TE for replacing this cache - found in good condition today. Nice to get this one turned into a smiley ! Gets a FP from me Smile

25-Mar-17
KittyKatch and I had been here a couple of weeks ago and looked everywhere but no luck. We were back this way this afternoon to attend the Cuboree Reunion BBQ so after having a chat with CO at the Red Centre Traveller event we thought we would give it another go. We thought the river would be up but it was good, slightly cold but we went across looked in the obvious spots again when all of a sudden I heard a giggle and turned and saw the smile on KittyKatch's face and got closer and smiled too, a High Five and a dance of success tftc Tankengine.

With it being a nice day and some time this morning decided to come out to the cotter to collect a few more caches. So quiet out here today and barely a car along the road also. Knowing the cache was definitely here, I came prepared with updated coordinates and made the crossing. Still slipping across the rocks a bit but the marks of recent walkers showed with cleaner rocks and a path was soon formed step by step. Still i did like the sliding part too! With just myself it was a quiet and enjoyable moment in the peaceful surrounds with just the water and birds to be heard. GPSr wasnt very reliable and had me searching in a place that I soon dismissed. Turned it off and soon made the find of a very familiar container. Love that container! Sat in the grass while putting the shoes back on and just enjoyed the location before reluctantly moving on and getting on with the rest of the day. Thanks for the cache, a favourite point for me TE, loved everything about it.

Was in the area, so decided to check on this today, and it was missing! Have replaced, good to go!

26-Feb-17
To good for Aquilus1 and I today. Walked across the cool water and searched the island to no avail : (

26-Feb-17
What a beautiful area of the cotter. It was shoes off and after a hot walk a refreshing crossing, slipping across the slimy rocks, what fun! We searched, looked, scratched, poked and pondered and did it all again, but the cache just wasn't to reveal itself to us today. With the light fading and our feet starting to complain from walking about without shoes for so long it was time to make the nice cool walk back. Not a total waste, its been a long time since I've kicked off my shoes to play in the river! Thanks for the opportunity Tankengine, but will be back for this one.

17-Sep-16
The geo_junkies family decided to test out some new tyres on the 4x4 so we headed out this way to hit some dirt. We stopped to see if we could grab a couple of caches nearby.

Unfortunately with the amount of water gushing from the dam, there is at least 10m of water either side of GZ.

We will come back and attempt this one when there is less water.

Found with AngelG27 and a few other cachers after the event at the Cotter. Got the requisite wet feet on the way to the cache. Glad the water was lower than in the recent past! Thanks TE Smile

#6115 @1407
Following this afternoon's event a few of us wandered done to grab a couple more caches. We arrived just after others had signed and were about to replace the cache. I'd been here once before but the water level was too high to risk attempting alone. No problems getting to the cache today, with wet feet of course. TFTC.

27-Mar-16
Found with TikvaNZ while in the area for an event. Tftc

27-Mar-16
I have not cached around the Cotter before, but the excuse of the Easter Sunday event was perfect to come and collect a few of the easier ones in the area with Bobl27. A lovely afternoon with lots of chatting to other cachers and a BBQ at the event, and some joint cache finding before and after the event.

7th cache of the day, and one I had been saving for later knowing there was a high probability of wet feet. That fear came to pass, but the crossing was easy enough and CIH soon after. There were a few in our group, including Bobl27, Fox, TikvaNZ and SharkieFan.

Thanks TE for another weird weir!

27-Mar-16
With dghoffy and Granville after attending the Cotter Meet n Greet Event - Great hide in a beautiful spot.
I didn't hang around to contemplate the peace and beauty of the area (as I'm sure you intended for us finders to do) because there wasn't enough room at GZ once the rest of the gang arrived Smile Thanks for the cache Tankengine

27-Mar-16
Two TE caches in a row. Happy days. After an enjoyable Cotter Meet and Greet, a number of us ventured along the river to find caches, this included. A tiptoe over the "mini weir" kept my feet dry, but the return was not as delicate. One shoe and sock wet is the price to pay for a cache, I guess. Great spot on a glorious day. TFTC TE

19-Mar-16
Found after a lot of looking. Log damp. Able to be signed. Thankyou for the cache

14-Mar-16
Great spot! Took 3 of us though to get the cache out of the hiding spot as it was a bit stuck!

20-Feb-16
It was looking to be a lovely day so a group of us (all muggles except for me) decided to go on a picnic out to cotter to enjoy the day and do a spot of fishing. The water was clear, the fish were in sight, but they didn't bite anything. So I set up the rod and went for a walk with the mischevious geodaughter to get a couple of nearby geocaches. This was the first one. Took a lot of convincing the geodaughter to leave her shoes on as I carried her across the water but we got there and the cache was easily found. A little damp but otherwise in good condition. THe geodaughter decided to play with the container while I signed the log losing a train charm and then she went for a wander to a nearby spikey bush. A loud scream for daddy so off to the rescue. Luckily I had finished signing the log. A leaset she will learn not to wander into bushes... or so I thought. Weird weir cotter cache hunt proved otherwise. TFTC Tankengine

14-Feb-16
I found the cache out on the open. I signed log, which was a bit damp, and put it back on a nice nook about a foot away. Enjoyed getting my feet wet for this cache.

28-Nov-15
Found this cache with tiarnminn - this was her very first cache and her idea to build up the courage to get wet ! Lots of fun once on the island but watch for the ants. Entry and exit was same for us fairly easy Smile thanks for a awesome first cache for tiarnminn

18-Nov-15
Decided to check on this, and it was indeed missing! Have replaced. Good to go.

08-Nov-15
Searched but no luck on this one today. Walked accross and located GZ easily, and even with help of experienced cacher who has found this before telling me where to look, this was a DNF.

30-Oct-15
There can't be that many hiding spots on such a tiny island. Saw some things up in the tree but don't think they are right. Will have to try again another day.

17-Jul-15
Brrr we thought we had it sorted when we spotted the bridge but it's a T2.5 for a reason! Loki was volunteered to do the honours. Chose the wrong way in but a better way out. Yikes that's as chilly as Blue Holes!! Spotted 5 emus nearby as we continued our walk after finding this one. Very special spot. Also enjoyed the story description Smile. Thanks Tankengine Big Grin

14-Jun-15
Back out at the Cotter early on another beautiful day. A quick find after a short walk. Great little spot, would be great to hang out here on a hot summers day. Thanks Tankengine

16-May-15
Saturday 16 May 2015 - a glorious still sunny autumn day at 18 degrees with a cloudless brilliant blue sky. Great crossing the cool river all completed very quickly in six long steps each way using river shoes brought along just for this cache. Cache is on the very little island safe but damp. Took the crab travel bug so that it can be place somewhere a little dryer - ironic. Worth a favourite point. Thx p2p. TFTC.

28-Apr-15
Cold cold coooooollllddddd! But definitely fun, tftc Smile

09-Mar-15
Thanks. Lovely spot.

09-Mar-15
As I approached this cache I spotted a couple who were looking across at gz & I decided to give them some time to contemplate what was required. Anyway, came back about 5 mins later & they were gone. I made my way to gz discovered I was going to have to get my feet wet. Made the crossing & located the cache, but no sign of the earlier couple's log. I guess the thought of wet feet turned them off. Tftc TE.

Easy find on a Sunday visit to the river, this is a nice location, thanks TE.

The cache had some moisture build up on the inside, but the log was in good shape.

21-Feb-15
Yep - log wet. Replaced - this time with riteintherain paper - hopefully better.

Another great location! Whern appoaching I was happy to see the bridge over the water and still tought this was going to lead me straight to the cache. How wrong! Had to do some adjustments to the wardrobe to get to this one.

Went for a day trip to the Canberra Space Centre and found 20 geocaches along the way!

WOW! This is probably one of my most favourite caches of all time. We came to GZ and walked up to the river to find we were still 10m away..... Then it clicked and we walked over the bridge but still found we were 8m away!!!!!!

Reality finally came to me and realised it was in the middle of the fast flowing river, and dont get me wrong it was really rapid. I took my shoes of and rolled up my pants and took a few minutes to cross as it was very slippery, and fast flowing. Didnt feel like getting all wet Wink

As I finally reached the small island I made a fairly quick find, then had the brave the way back Sad
It was a ton of fun however Smile I love caches that require effort to get to (such as climbing trees)

A walk around Cotter Dam and the North Bullen Range to-day. About 16 kilometres of walking, about a dozen caches found and 2 DNFs. TFTC.

After the CITO and the group trek to Casuarina Cliffs we decided it was time to clean up more caches around the area. This was also what LuckyL10n had planned so we joined forces to go and attack some more and see how we go.

Another true to form cache by the CO. LuckyL10n did the honours here as he had the most appropriate attire on. Cache quickly found, signed and off to our next adventure.

TFTC Tankengine and the company LuckyL10n.

#2489 - 14:35; After a pleasant morning tea and cachechat at the CITO event, a group of intrepid cachers made their way across the river and up the hill to grab a couple of the local caches. After the group had disbanded, I headed off with FurfacesLL No's 1 and 2 to collect some more of the caches in this area. FFLL1 and I set off in pursuit of this cache while FFLL2 went back to collect the geomobile. I got cold feet as I approached GZ, but made the crossing and soon had cache in hand and log signed. Another sucess under our belts, it was back to the geomobile to continue the adventure. TFTC Tankengine Smile

Found with Justjessie on a spur of the moment caching trip to the Cotter. No wet feet for us..

23-Aug-14
Found with O319. O319 and Justjessie junior found a way across without the need to remove shoes or get wet feet. TFTC

20-Jul-14
Removed shoes and jeans and braved the freezing cold water to make a quick grab. Luckily the sun was out so I was able to dry off once back on dry land before putting socks and shoes (and jeans) back on.

A great little spot, TFTC TE.

08-Jul-14
WOW! I sat here for ages contemplating entering that water. Walked around a few times to see if there is a better way to deal with this one. decisions, decisions....nope I will try this one at a later date maybe when the water is warmer or i have some swimmers on me.

This has been a favorite location for a long time. Thanks Tankengine you have some great caches. Alot of fun for geotween to get there first.
