It was time today for our big push to complete the 250 Finds in September Challenge. Because we’ve done everything local, we needed to head further afield and the Masterton area was a good choice with plenty enough available, including several puzzle caches Mrs G had solved some time ago. We planned to stay overnight too, to ensure the experience was not too tiring and more relaxing and enjoyable.
We had a beautiful day for our trip with the Wairarapa countryside looking particularly lovely in its soft spring colours offset by a backdrop of high angular blue Tararuas lightly snow-dusted on their tops.
We found more caches than we actually needed so it was a very successful trip.
Our first major focus was out to the east a little. This cache was quickly located and our parked car provided a little screening from the busy road. TFTC

Quick find. Caching with Sidewaze. My apologies for late logging, my thanks to CO for taking the time to place the cache and giving us the challenge of finding it. TFTC
Great location!
Will definitely have to come back an explore some more around here.
Thanks for the cache!

After a beautiful warm, calm sunny Sunday, I visited here on a quiet Monday morning as the cold rain came down.

It is time to spend the day locating and signing off the rest of the "2 from 2" Level I series.
Only 1 to go.
Cheers for the cache.

I was dropped in town to do a spot of Geocaching and was lucky enough to find every one I attempted, nice little cache
Cache number 34 of 56 (find number 32 of 50 for me) on a road trip from Palmerston North to Masterton (via Pongaroa and SH52) with some like-minded individuals collectively know as Geocachers!
We ascended into the clouds at the top of the Pahiatua Track, and then it was clear for the rest of the trip until we returned back over the Track where the fog at the top gave less than 20m visibility
It's been a while since I've been caching in the Wairarapa, but I'm always keen to pick up some more codes for the 2:2 series.
Since we were driving past, it'd be rude not to collect another code!

Today my son (ThatWeirdGuy04) and I were lucky enough to be invited to tag along with PJMacNZ, Haydn.Seek and Etherlord Clan on a day trip around the Wairarapa.
We knew it was going to be a long day, but we were hopeful that we would get to find quite a few caches along the way, especially of the Mystery variety which we decided to concentrate mainly on getting.
The weather was kind to us, meaning we were able to spend time out of the car finding the caches and making running repairs to quite a few of them, mainly due to waterlogged log sheets and damaged plastic bags. Anyone finding these caches next in a good condition have EC and HS to thank for providing the requisite items.
My apologies for the generic log entry here, but the volume of caches found today makes it the best way to get everything done. With a small few exceptions, most of the caches were a relatively straightforward find, and in every case the logsheet was signed as Team PHETT for all 5 of us before the cache was replaced exactly where found.
Thank you for placing this cache, and giving us the excuse to have a grand day out.

We made an overnight stop with our motorhome @ Masterton on our way south to Wellington. M80 started the day with running east for some excersize and to finding some geocaches. Thanks for hiding!
A big mission over the hill today, focusing on Skindo's A to Z and 2 from 2 series caches, but picking up others along the way.
Heading out towards Blairlogie so stopped to grab this 2 from 2. A slightly different container, but the code was still in place. The dark clouds are getting closer and I can hear thunder. Better get a move on before it starts raining. TFTC

On a 2 day whirlwind tour of the Wairarapa with barefootguru, collecting the first level of this series. Found and logged as B+D. TFTC!
A big day in the Wairarapa today with a few target caches and a few others to boost the numbers. Another 2:2 code collected. Thanks for the cache.
After an afternoon swim at the Masterton pool we headed this way for today's find. There was an enormous puddle on the road at GZ, but we managed to keep our feet dry. Thanks to whoever replaced the cache for including the code!
Been to a wedding at castlepoint and on our way home again many thanks
All the caches have been in good condition and it has been a great drive thanks Skindo

A weekend away with the family, visiting various spots in the Wairarapa, so what better to do than nab a few caches that happen to be on the route. Mostly good weather and the roads not too busy made for some good caching.
Nice easy find here.

Took CNAH to the Wairarapa to work on the Skindo 2 from 2 Series. A lovely day. A lot of driving to get the odd one here and there. Enjoyed the roads. Managed to get enough to make 100 finds for September so were happy.
This was needing replacement so I obliged. Small white pill container. Put code under lid. All good. Hopefully won't go missing again.

Found where it should be but someone had dug a drain there and I imagine the cache had been muggled.
#2280. I headed over to the Wairarapa today to pick up more of the skindo 2:2 series and any other nearby caches as I moved around the region. Discovered early on that GSAK must have an upload limit for waypoints as a number of the caches I targeted were not showing on my GPS. So had to put in an emergency call to Mrs GSEL at home who gave me the Lats and Longs for a number of targeted caches. The rain had eased off briefly when I arrived here for my last cache of the day. But there was big moat of rainwater protecting the cache and I got wet shoes reaching the container. Signed the log and returned cache as found. Code collected. Took wet footwear off for the drive back to Wellington, making it home before snow started falling on the Rimutaka Hill Rd in the evening. Thanks for hiding the cache here.
Tftc!
We are probably the lousiest geocachers as we forgot a pen for today's hunt beyond Masterton... That's happen when you move things from their usual place and forget to put it back...

One of the many caches we found on our campervan journey from Lower Hutt to Tauranga. A mighty and enjoyable journey through many great and iconic parts of the north island. Many thanks to the many CO's for the great cache placements and for bringing us to new places. Sorry for the generic log.
Found it with Team FIN [janahola, kapeka, laalaa & temyllyl]
We had fun with caching few weeks here in New Zealand. Lots of geocaches and many sort of them too. We saw awesome places, weather was pretty good all the time and people were friendly and polite. Caches were pretty similar like in our home country. Of course there were some exeptions. Nice and really scenary country!
Greetings from Finland

On a geoholiday road tripping to Christchurch MEGA and around beautiful New Zealand. Our four people group (temyllyl, laalaa, kapeka and myself) from Finland used group tag FIN to log the caches.
Welcome to MEGA Finland in 5-7 august 2016!
Today our trip continued to Taupo. Of course some caching on the way. We had lots of fun and saw many nice places and caches. Thanks for the cache!

14th day on our geo-roadtrip in New Zealand, and caching our way towards north. Logged using our group nickname FIN with janahola, laalaa and kapeka. After having a blast in South Island and in Christchurch Mega event, we had to start heading back home. Fortunately we still had few days left to spend in NZ while driving to Auckland.
A nice quick find before heading up into the hills. Have been down here many times over the summer to swim at this great swimming hole.

10th of the day and another in the 2;2 series. WE found a few the last time we were here but I have lost the info! Oh well. TFTC.
SpudNZ, Hunterhillson, AtomsNZ and Tommygun9 (me) (we logged ourselves as "TEAM SHATner" to save space and time) decided to set off for a caching mission to gather a heap of caches in the Wairarapa on a Wednesday. Noting that the weather was going to be good we set off from Palmy a little after 0600 and grabbed a few caches in the dark and morning light before (having a pie and) setting off south down Route 52. We had a couple of zig and/or zags south and got to Masterton in the dark of the moonless evening. Two of our party broke through the 1000 cache mark while I managed a day of 125 finds. We got back to Palmy very late cold, tired and hungry and know that, despite the uncharacteristically fine weather, summer is definitely the better time of year for long caching missions. Thanks to the local hiders for all their caches.
Cache 111 on the day for me.

Logged as team SHATner - (SpudNZ, Hunterhillson, AtomsNZ, Tommygun9) Spent the day caching out in and around the Mighty Manawatu, the Wild Wairapapa and the Bay of Hawkes, in the hope of clocking up +100 caches. As well as seeing some of the best scenic views rural NZ has to offer, we also came across a few stray sheep, a couple of rabbits, Farmer Joe, the Ram gang, some shifty goats, Farmer Dave, a pie, a cop, Farmer Ned and Farmer Ted, diggers, mud, rain, sun, fog, Farmer Jane and her trusty farm dog.. And even a few caches!

After hearing that Tommygun9, SpudNZ and Hunterhillson were planning a mission to Skindoland to knock off some caches out there I decided that I couldn't possibly be left behind to go to work for the day while they had all the fun -so I offered my expertise in solving Skindo puzzles in exchange for a seat in the vehicle. Turns out I only ended up having to solve a couple but gained a seat anyway.
Starting out well before the crack of dawn, my hope for the day was to crack 1,000 caches and under the cover of darkness I found my 1,000th cache at around 8.30pm. After coming across a major accident on state highway 2 our route home was greatly expanded and it was close to 11pm before we finally made it back to civilization and a well deserved dinner.
Thanks to all the cache owners for the caches we found today

In the wee hours of 20 May 15, Tommygun9, Atomsnz, Hunterhillson and myself formed an elite squad for a daring raid into Skindo land. Our codename; Team SHAT-ner.
We would be operating deep behind enemy lines, often out of contact range from Hotel Quebec, limited supplies and no chance of rescue, should we need one. We were horrendously out numbered. I’ve heard rumours that it was close to 300 to one.
Our mission; covertly kill off as many insurgents as we could and return home alive. We had all set personal goals for the mission; mine was to crack the 120 mark. Although, I had recently learnt that another member of our squad from yesteryear had a tally of 133. Perhaps I need to re-evaluate my goal.
Our insertion point was the North entry to Route 52, where we soon realised that the insurgents were coming thick and fast. We had to fight for every inch down that road. After 10 hrs of battling insurgents at every turn, we eventually reached our Southern most point, the insurgent stronghold of Masterton. It was the “home straight” from here. We blasted our way North as fast we could. Sporadically shooting insurgents from our windows as we went. The road was blocked near Mount Bruce so we had to make a detour back towards Masterton and take some of the back roads. I hope this wasn’t a trap. We eventually made it back over the hill to safety. I don’t think we were followed.
We did notice a few spotters located down the back roads that we didn’t clear. No doubt, they’ll relay any information back to their Supreme Leader and we’ll see reinforcements taking up defensive positions around the country side on the satellite imagery we receive.
Weeks of prior planning and INTEL gathering meant a smooth and successful mission was carried out. Against the odds, we returned home well after dark, safe and sound after a hard days work.
Some numbers for the mission:
620 km’s covered,
16.5 hrs of driving,
132 insurgents killed; of which 118 blindly follow Supreme Leader Skindo.
116 were killed on site
16 were questioned before being put in front of the firing squad.
7 evaded us.
For acts of bravery above and beyond the call of duty. In which I successfully carried out a raid into enemy territory and killed 120 hostiles or more, I am awarded the Ruby Badge. I also received various other badge upgrades as well.
Another quick find made by the Team. The sun had well set by this stage. Signed as Team SHAT-ner
Thanks for the cache and the smiley.

Another along this road..Rob still pondering over the multi Bull or Oxen. Took photo of old concrete works nearby. Had to wait to look for this as a Chorus Van was parked there pointing directly towards the cache.. that k you for the cache.
Found while on a 24 hour caching adventure with Skaga through parts of the Wairarapa - finished the 24 hours and are now making our way homewards. The log is just pulp so could not sign it. TFTC
