Had to hold on tightly for the wind to not blow the log sheet away Nice and dry!TFTC!
Doing the Travers-Sabine Track and to Blue Lake. On the way back up to Angelus Hut.Never done something like this before in my life, so I took food for 10 days, just to be sure I'll come back home. But with so much food, my backpack was quite heavy as well. But I made it and saw some amazong places and found a few caches as well.TFTC#599
Bit tricky. Green sistema container. Rely on your gos coordinates and you'll find it
Found this cache on my tramp to Angelus hut.I found this cache on the 22nd but forgot to log it until the next day.Took me a while to find the cache location as it was all rocks up here.TFTC
Tftc out on a multiday with victoriousone, stayed an extra night at Angelus to do some exploring.
Beautiful spot. The clouds lifted long enough to enjoy the view. With Kimmy+co. TFTC
Nice stroll along the ridge here in this great weather, no problems locating the cache, tftc!
In order to satisfy the requirements of a challenge cache, todays aim was elevation up to Angelus peak, and back, along with a couple of side trips, in a day. Yes, it is possible even at this time of the year, with one end being in darkness though, the oh dear it's early end. I walked 40 km over the 15 1/2 hours and gathered together 28 caches. With the previous days snow in the area, the wind from the South, across the top of the ridge, created enough wind chill to freeze my drinking tube and make some ice crystals in my spare water bottle. And, just enough that there were a handful of snowflakes further along. Then, at the other of the day, the Northerly wind was warm. This was a few short of my original plan of 34 to keep on the safer side of darkness at the end of the trip.
This was #9. Easy find here. I was startled a bit by the figure by the sign somewhere round here. In the torch light of the darkness he almost looked real. Freaky.

My pack was starting to weigh a little heavily now but there’s still a bit of of walking to be done yet so I can’t afford to flag for too long.
This was one of those ‘put your faith in the GPS’ hides. Once I did it was a simple find.

Quickly found after a great night at the Bushline hut. Weather is much better today on my way to Angelus hut. Thanks for hiding.
Nelson mâles national park, incredible park to walk! Thanks to add some caches to increase the happiness TFTC

Out on a bit of a mission today to join the NZ Geocahcers Mile High Club.
My first of three caches around the 1700m mark and the easiest of the three.
In cloud here so no view at all.
Could be an interesting walk along the Christie Ridge.

Wow! I was last up this way about 7 years ago when I found the No Propsect and Mt Robert Skifield caches with Kiwi_Explorer. So this cache and the one a bit further on have been on my to do list for a while. A couple of new caches further on was enough incentive to get me out and up today. I started out from Mt Robert car park at 8am and had the track to myself all the way to here. There were a couple of trampers on there way out when I arrived. My GPS took me straight to the cache here today. TFTC, Biggles.
I was up here for one of the two FTFs luckily BigglesNZ and I chose different ones to go for. Found this after the mission up Christie Ridge. Nice view of Speargrass Hut from here. TFTC b&w

A perfect day to have a crack at the 4 target caches around the old Mt Robert Ski-field. Had my first ski here during the winter of 1980 and skied here until the field finally closed. Arr.... the memories!
Tried to visualise where the old rope tows used to run and seem to remember this being the 'Flagtop Tow' - I may be wrong. I don't seem to remember this tow operating much in the few years I had the pleasure of skiing this field.
A bit of traffic today in and out to Angeles.
A quickish find of this cache and again in perfect condition. TFTC Bumandworker.

Our Christmas this year was spent with the very very extended whanau, introducing the overseas portion of them into Chrismas in the bush.
Last day on the way out, the views here were amazing! ANd was so nice being able to see the track for miles!

Heading away for a few days with the extended whanau for a bit of hiking and some caching on the way, signing the log books as Team Polak for all of us. Last day of walking out and heading back home. Amazing scenery along the ridge that we had to follow as it bears the name of one in our party! great views, high winds, but rain went away, and we had a ball! TFTC!!

Quick find on our way to Bushline from the ridge tonight. Super windy up here! But an incredible walk TFTC
Found on our walk up to Lake Angelus hut. Another cache well placed away from a busy resting place where we chatted to other trampers who were walking out. A straight forward find. Enjoying the sunshine and views, thanks b&w.
Teamed up with Capperz, Raisinpig, Kiwimykl and NZDi along with muggle Joe for a trip to Angelus. Having gained most of our altitude up the Pinchgut we had great conditions for a trip along Robert Ridge. About 17 years since I was last up here.
A slight cool breeze, and lots of hot sun here today. Awesome conditions and definately a lot of water needed for this walk.

Out for a overnighter to Angelus via Robert Ridge. Beautiful hot day - perfect conditions. Track very dry so the odd slippery bit. Signed log as "GRNCK" with 5 cachers in our group + 1 muggle.

An overnight tramp into the Lake Angelus Hut with GH6710, capperz, Raisinpig, Kiwimykl and the tame muggle, Joe, has been planned for a couple of weeks now and I decided to come along for a couple of reasons. Firstly, after only doing day tramps for several years now, I've been wanting to do an overnighter for some time and having the support of some other more experienced trampers gave me confidence to do this. Secondly, I have a major milestone coming up in four caches and one of the caches that we will be doing tomorrow is a fitting cache to achieve this milestone.
When setting this plan into action, I had initially thought of getting an extra couple of caches as a contingency in case we didn't find some of these ones on the track which would have foiled my ultimate plan. However the CO of all these caches was supposed to be heading up this way ahead of us today, so I figured he would be checking and replacing any caches that required maintenance or were missing. Earlier today I discovered the CO was not ahead of us so I was very nervous about not finding any of the caches on the way.
From the experience of the previous two caches, there is not going to be a problem with the GPS coordinates on these caches. From here you can just about touch the satellites, and Kiwimykl didn't have any problem finding the cache either.
Once again great weather, views and company... and another great cache.

For quite some time now I've intended to make the trip back up Mount Robert and push on to Angelus Hut with a view to getting on top of Angelus Peak for a peek at the surrounding environment. After a summer so far of some medium walks and getting closer to some of those more challenging treks a few of us decided a Friday arvo trip up, overnight at the hut/in a tent lakeside Angelus, then up on top followed by a trip back down Speargrass to the car park on Saturday was a goer for this weekend.
Caching team was G H 6 7 1 0, Kiwimykl, NZDi, Raisinpig and I, along with a welcome work colleague Joe who was keen for stretching his legs. Logs were signed to save space for all those that come after us as caching initials G R N C K, pronounced 'Grunk'!
Set off from Mount Robert car park at around 1.30PM and arrived at the hut around 7.30 pm after finding 4 caches en route. Beautiful terrain for walking around with perfect weather for seeing all that this wonderful country has to offer.
Another welcome breather here, will be a while before the next one is close enough to attempt. Always good to rest, revive, recover and romp on!

The rest of the RNZAF caching crew from Woodbourne mentioned a plan to take half a day off on Friday to do a tramp in the Nelson Lakes National Park to collect a few caches and with the ultimate aim of gaining a few more Project-GC Altitude points by climbing Angelus Peak, the highest cache in the Marlborough/ Nelson area. So how was I going to get a domestic leave pass to tag along... I know, invite NZDi along as well.
The gaps between the first three caches on our route has provided an for ideal rest intervals but it is a long haul to the next cache after this. As with the other caches so far today the wide open spaces provided for excellent satellite reception which made for a QEF.

I couldn't find it, but it was probably there. I just didn't want to hang around in the freezing wind. Maybe a hint? Thanks anyway for going to the trouble of putting a cache here. J of J&G
No view today. Absolutelly foggy and cold. But we enjoyed the cache very much! Found during one week tramping in Nelson lakes. TFTC!
Found on day 8 of our Christmas trip to Nelson Lakes. Glorious views today after the rain on New Year's Eve. TFTC
Found it during 18 days trip from North Island to South Island.

Found on the 5 1/2 hour tramp to Angelus. The cache didn't appear to be where we thought it was, and then some cloud came down and immersed us. It looked like we weren't going to find it... before I caught a glimpse of colour that seemed out of place. 5 seconds later, we were rewarded with the cache. Picked up Czechoslovakia trackable wood coin, will move this little beauty to St Arnaud. TFTC
Beaut day. Helicopter buzzing around with DOC workers putting in new toilets at Angelus.
A quick easy find at the limit of our journey today. We met a man and two boys nearby, who had come up the Speargrass track, and were now heading back down, considerably faster than our sedate speed. TFTC
Only managed 4 caches on way to Angelus otherwise we would be stopping all the time, there seems to be so many. TFTC
Ah Flagtop at last! It has taken me just a tad under 3 hours to get here from the car park (including rest, photo and cache stops). Should be mostly downhill back to the car park from here now. 10th cache ticked off on today's cache raid on Mt Robert. This was the highest point reached on today's raid. Time now to turn around and head down to the ski club for another cache and lunch. Quite a procession of hikers from the Angelus Hut noticed coming over the knoll about a kilometer to the south.
I am more than happy to flag this one - as a favourite. For the challenge and satisfaction to have got here and the stunning views along the way. This has to be the most well earned 2.5 terrain I have ever done! Great spot for lunch watching the manoeuvres of the gliders below. TFTC #4513

This spot was about to get busy - with walkers converging from both directions. So we needed a quick find before lunch. Trusted the coordinates and the cache was in hand almost immeditately.
This was the furtherest we went today. Enjoyed the views while eating our lunch - including a glider we saw below us then back towards the township later. No hope of taking photos that matched the views - although we did try.
Absolutely lovely day for Mrs SoBad and isis58 to walk, talk, admire the views, admire the other views - and congratulate ourselves for choosing a stunning day to be out and about.
No envy at all for the trampers we saw heading onwards and upwards.. we were ready to walk downwards and homewards.
Thanks for this cache and for the other contributions to a great day out. A favourite for both reasons.
