Doing the Travers-Sabine Track and to Blue Lake. On the way back up to Angelus Hut.Never done something like this before in my life, so I took food for 10 days, just to be sure I'll come back home. But with so much food, my backpack was quite heavy as well. But I made it and saw some amazong places and found a few caches as well.TFTC#601
Found this cache on my tramp to Angelus hutLiked how this cache was hidden.TFTC
Tftc out on a multiday with victoriousone stayed an extra night at Angelus to do some exploring.
Our NEW ZEALAND - TASMANIA - AUSTRALIA JOURNEY takes us to beautiful places and provides us with an incredible number of wonderful moments and experiences.Occasionally we also visit a few GeoCaches along the way.Seen, logged, we continue in the direction of Angelus Htte...Thank you for placing, maintaining and caring snapfish2 from SwitzerlandPS: Translated with the Deepl app
Quick find along this nice ridge path. I guess it can be tricky with bad weather and snow but today in the sun it was a pleasant walk and easy find along the way, tftc!
In order to satisfy the requirements of a challenge cache, todays aim was elevation up to Angelus peak, and back, along with a couple of side trips, in a day. Yes, it is possible even at this time of the year, with one end being in darkness though, the oh dear it's early end. I walked 40 km over the 15 1/2 hours and gathered together 28 caches. With the previous days snow in the area, the wind from the South, across the top of the ridge, created enough wind chill to freeze my drinking tube and make some ice crystals in my spare water bottle. And, just enough that there were a handful of snowflakes further along. Then, at the other of the day, the Northerly wind was warm. This was a few short of my original plan of 34 to keep on the safer side of darkness at the end of the trip.
This was #8. No problem finding the cache, just had to hold onto everything or put it under a rock to stop it blowing away.

En route to Angelus Hut for the night. A glorious days walking but a bit windy. The buildings look pristine from this distance. I wonder how long ago the ski field saw lots of snow.

Nice quick find for this one! First place we checked! Such a wonderful day for a walk up here today! TFTC
When SJT_NZ read the hint and looked around we didn't think there was going to be much chance of a find as day was getting on and still had a fairway to go. As always I was keen to have the pack off and search for longer but SJT_NZ found it pretty quickly. Thanks b&w for the cache all in good order.
This one took a couple of minutes to find, but trusting the GPSr and the CO's coordinates once the readings settled had us to the metre. All in perfect condition. Thanks b&w for another cache and prompting us to stop for a bit and enjoy the stunning views.
Out on a bit of a mission today to join the NZ Geocahcers Mile High Club.
This was my first stop. Overcast, but a good view of the ski field buildings.
They appear to still be well maintained.

Spotted a likely location for a cache straight away and found a hole but no cache, searched other possible places then went back for another look and saw another hole and this one wasnt empty. I woke up this morning in Bushline hut to a thick layer of cloud below, but the time I got here it just starting to break up on the skifield side but on the speargrass side all that could be seen was a carpet of white and what I assume was Mt's Owen and Murchison in the distance ... Magic. Thanks bumandworker

Wow! I was last up this way about 7 years ago when I found the No Propsect and Mt Robert Skifield caches with Kiwi_Explorer. So this cache and the one a bit further on have been on my to do list for a while. A couple of new caches further on was enough incentive to get me out and up today. Found this cache after a bit of a search around. TFTC, Biggles.
A perfect day to have a crack at the 4 target caches around the old Mt Robert Ski-field. Had my first ski here during the winter of 1980 and skied here until the field finally closed. Arr.... the memories!
Tried to visualise where the old rope tows used to run and seem to remember this being the 'South Tow' - I may be wrong.
This was the first cache for today and was found with no issues. Cache in perfect condition.

Our Christmas this year was spent with the very very extended whanau, introducing the overseas portion of them into Chrismas in the bush.
Last day on the way out, the views here were amazing! ANd was so nice being able to see the track for miles!

Heading away for a few days with the extended whanau for a bit of hiking and some caching on the way, signing the log books as Team Polak for all of us. Last day of walking out and heading back home. Amazing scenery along the ridge that we had to follow as it bears the name of one in our party! great views, high winds, but rain went away, and we had a ball! TFTC!!

Quick find on our way to Bushline from the ridge tonight. Super windy up here! But an incredible walk TFTC
Found on our walk up to Lake Angelus hut. Enjoying the sunshine and views. This one took a bit of hunting but it was eventually found safe and dry in its hidden hole. Interesting to read about those hardy skiers, thanks b&w.
Teamed up with Capperz, Raisinpig, Kiwimykl and NZDi along with muggle Joe for a trip to Angelus. Having gained most of our altitude up the Pinchgut we had great conditions for a trip along Robert Ridge. About 17 years since I was last up here.

Out for a overnighter to Angelus via Robert Ridge. Beautiful hot day - perfect conditions. Track very dry so the odd slippery bit. Signed log as "GRNCK" with 5 cachers in our group + 1 muggle.

An overnight tramp into the Lake Angelus Hut with GH6710, capperz, Raisinpig, Kiwimykl and the tame muggle, Joe, has been planned for a couple of weeks now and I decided to come along for a couple of reasons. Firstly, after only doing day tramps for several years now, I've been wanting to do an overnighter for some time and having the support of some other more experienced trampers gave me confidence to do this. Secondly, I have a major milestone coming up in five caches and one of the caches that we will be doing tomorrow is a fitting cache to achieve this milestone.
When setting this plan into action, I had initially thought of getting an extra couple of caches as a contingency in case we didn't find some of these ones on the track which would have foiled my ultimate plan. However the CO of all these caches was supposed to be heading up this way ahead of us today, so I figured he would be checking and replacing any caches that required maintenance or were missing. Earlier today I discovered the CO was not ahead of us so I was very nervous about not finding any of the caches on the way.
Once again that was not an issue here where the wide open spaces give unimpeded satellite coverage and the GPS coordinates were within 1m of the cache. All up we had great weather, great views and great company... what else could anyone want?... a cache of course.

For quite some time now I've intended to make the trip back up Mount Robert and push on to Angelus Hut with a view to getting on top of Angelus Peak for a peek at the surrounding environment. After a summer so far of some medium walks and getting closer to some of those more challenging treks a few of us decided a Friday arvo trip up, overnight at the hut/in a tent lakeside Angelus, then up on top followed by a trip back down Speargrass to the car park on Saturday was a goer for this weekend.
Caching team was G H 6 7 1 0, Kiwimykl, NZDi, Raisinpig and I, along with a welcome work colleague Joe who was keen for stretching his legs. Logs were signed to save space for all those that come after us as caching initials G R N C K, pronounced 'Grunk'!
Set off from Mount Robert car park at around 1.30PM and arrived at the hut around 7.30 pm after finding 4 caches en route. Beautiful terrain for walking around with perfect weather for seeing all that this wonderful country has to offer.
Heading around the ridge line along the edge of a crater we came across this cache which was a Q E F and a welcome rest of the packs which are feeling heavy already!

The rest of the RNZAF caching crew from Woodbourne mentioned a plan to take half a day off on Friday to do a tramp in the Nelson Lakes National Park to collect a few caches and with the ultimate aim of gaining a few more Project-GC Altitude points by climbing Angelus Peak, the highest cache in the Marlborough/ Nelson area. So how was I going to get a domestic leave pass to tag along... I know, invite NZDi along as well.
The slight altitude gain from the last cache (No Prospect.) did not do much to tax the legs and lungs and after struggling as Tail End Charlies going up the Pinchgut, NZDi and I were at the vanguard of the attack on this cache and it was NZDi who came up with the goods. We took our time signing the log and reconfirmed our decision not to drop down into the basin, then it was onwards and upwards to the next.
The views from up here are awe inspiring but we know we are going a lot higher tomorrow. NZDi and I brought along a few TBs with us but have decided against placing them in any of these rarely visited caches.

Found this one (thanks for the hint - helped not to delay too long in the freezing wind). This brings back many memories for me as my family skied at Mt Robert for many years. I lost count of the number of trips I did up and down that mountain!
Found on day 8 of our Christmas trip to Nelson Lakes. Glorious views today after the rain on New Year's Eve. TFTC
Found it during 18 days trip from North Island to South Island.
Thanks for this cache!:)

Had to wait for a group having lunch to move off. Place is like a highway with people coming and going from Angelus.
It took us a wee while to find this cache, despite the accurate coordinates, and it being at the largest hint object in the vicinity. You need to be on the correct side to notice the hidey hole. Interesting to read about the ski field. TFTC
Walking out after weekend tramp in to Angelus with our 9 year old. Just bagged his 32nd hut! TFTC
8th cache ticked off on today's cache raid on Mt Robert. With no sighting of the top bull wheel or intermediate pulley mounts I guess the field is not used any more. Legs are good, heart is ticking over now at a reduced rate, and today's turn around point (Flagtop) is in sight. All systems are go. Just sighted the first 2 returnees from the Angelus Hut coming over Flagtop at 0951am.
Not actually our top tow today as we had one more in our sights above and of course the one below. TFTC #4512
Mrs SoBad has a complaint to make. How come... the T rating for No Prospect was 3.5 and this one is 2.5??? Not that it had any effect on the decision to carry on to here - just saying that's all.
More great views as we walked around the rim - and no problem to find the cache. It helps when it is handed to you.
Thanks.
