A cracker day to be doing some geocaching at Mt Peel. No problem locating this cache which is in good condition. TFTC
Found with NZDi. This was our fifth find on the track and by now the inaccuracy c:geo had shown on the first few finds had worked itself out, so this was a QEF.
It is Easter weekend and it is time to cross off one of the things on our bucket list, which is to visit the Peel Forest area. We headed south from Blenheim yesterday and overnighted in Rangiora in order to break up the trip. That was an uninspiring place to cache with a miserable strike rate. We arrived at the DOC campground well before check-in time but found out the camp custodians were from Blenheim too, and they let us have our site early. After setting up, we did the Kahikatea Track before lunch. After lunch we decided to do the Fern Track walk starting at the Te Wanahu end and heading to Blandswood. We managed to get six of the seven caches, but it seems as though No. 4 has been archived. The track was really muddy so instead of going back the way we came, we decided to return along Blandswood Road. While doing this we got caught up in a Police SAR operation looking for an autistic, non-verbal 11 year old boy who went missing while doing the Dennistoun Loop Track. We ended up supporting the distraught father while the search operation was under way. In the end it was a successful outcome as the boy was found about three hours after going missing.

Walking the Fern Track, the third find of the day. The track was a little muddy but very enjoyable, saw no other walkers. Was accompanied by loud birdsong for the entire stroll. Deer in the paddock next to this cache bellowing; TFTC
Nice easy one here very straight forward phew. Getting a bit tired legs feeling. Thanks for the cache 1066.
Dakotacats and I spent the day in the Peel Forest area and this was our first find of the day. This walk is a lovely one through the forest and we really enjoyed all the finds today. TFTC
This was our first full day of caching in the area, and we decided that this Fern Walk would be a great way to explore the area. The track was quite muddy in places and it wasn't as flat as we had anticipated. But it was a lovely track to walk and we came across quite a few people on our walk. It's been a while since I've cached with a gps - it was fun!! Thanks 1066 for this series of caches.
Enjoying this part of my loop walk today. No one else on the track so lovely and peaceful. TFTC # 16,466
We enabled our geocaches now that geocaching is once more allowed under Level 2 guidelines. Happy Caching.
Disabled for the period of isolation so that you cannot catch the virus from this cache.
During our travel in NZ we did not have mobile data. So this log is written, when back home.
Third day in Peel Forest: We headed out to hike around Allans Track and back to the campground via Fern Walk. m3h4 had lots of fun solving all the mysteries. The hints helped a lot with finding the caches. Also GPS reception on the phone was not reliable, but taking the Garmin helped with good positioning.
A fav-point was given to Fern Walk #1 for the great caches.
Thanks for hiding! Found together with m3h4.

After hiking Allan track this was a pleasant walk to get back to the campground.

The host of the B&B where we stayed last night had Peel Forest as recommendation for hiking - so we came here and decided to hike the Fern Walk. And it was a nice surprise and much fun doing so. An interesting kind of "Forest" - since we don't have such big ferns back home ...
We found most of the caches along the trail, except one. But we liked this little adventure very much.
Thank you for placing and keeping the caches here!

We are finally home and I am trying to catch up on logging some of the caches we found on our holiday.
We had come to this area somewhat unexpectedly, we were further down the South Island finding the TMGT caches until the extreme weather made us head north again. So with a message to a friend we were set up for a couple of days in this area.
I had just come through Allans Track which was about as much as I could comfortably handle on my own and I was heading back to the camper van via Fern Walk.
This was a really pretty walk and much more like the terrain I am happy to wander along on my own.
I took the long way in to find this one, bit like cross country, the log signed and returned as I had found it, then I returned to the track via the almost highway like geotrail.
Thanks for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley

had a lovely walk today through the ferns and native forest. A few fantails kept us company at times. The track was a bit challenging after the very moist night weather conditions, a couple of found sticks helped Lytteltonwitch and I negotiate our way round, apologies for the cut and paste logs after this. All finds were safe and found according to hint. TFTC
A fairly quick find and Busypaws will have better notes about which caches were damp or needed replacement logbooks
While Andy went for a walk up Little Peel yesterday, I started solving the puzzles in the area on my in/out 1 bar of data reception. Today we headed out to pick up the solved ones and any other caches we came across on our walk. Parked at the Blandswood Road end and did the Emily, Rata Fern and Big Tree tracks on the way back to the campground.
Heading along Fern Track now on the way back to the campground. Track is fairly busy today so we are having to stop and wait for the muggles to depart often. All caches along this track were quick finds. tftc

Everything looks the same around here. Glad you left those hints. Sharpened the pencil for the next finder. Birdsong all around.
The forecast for the Easter weekend was rubbish after today so I bundled the family up and told them we were getting some exercise. It took a little longer than planned (5.5 hours for the loop along Allan's Track and back on Fern Walk) but the kids really enjoyed it and got nice and muddy.
Hmm, there be deer out there Dear. Lookie, Deer over there, dear. Dear?!?!?! Deer! Oh dear! Quite a few objects to search and it's a bit more like 5m but it worked in the end. Cheers

Just minutes ago, ReCached and I found cache number one on this trail. Now we've made it to the second one. The hint was a bit misleading as we had a different understanding of the length of two metres. But in the end ReCached found the container and everybody was happy. TFTC 1066!

I deliberately chose this walk, in this direction, so I would see competitors in the spring challenge adventure race coming toward me. Very inspiring stuff. The problem was that one of their race checkpoints was about 2 metres from this cache. Had to wait a while for a break in the traffic so I could retrieve it
Enjoyed a visit to Peel Forest. We did the Fern walk and found the caches along the way. This cache was the last one for us as we ran out of time to get to the end of the trail. TFTC.
On my way from Geraldine to Methven. Everybody told me to visit Peel Forest, so I did. It was quite a steep way up, but I managed. Between 1 and 2 it was quite wet and muddy. This one was found quickly, thanks for hiding!
Together with arbor95 I am on a holiday tour in New Zealand.
We are two Germans, old friends since a long time. Together we visited a lot of other countries in the past, even before we started geocaching. [^]
For our trip we usually looking for some extraordinary caches.
Therefore we had mostly a lot of fun.
Today we hiked the allans track and back we did the fern walk. It was awonderful day in the woods.
Thank You very much for this geocache, for the challenge and for the maintaining.
Greetings from tripleclaus to 1066.

#8560, 15:35,
During our holidays in Newzealand we searched some Caches.
A wonderful day on this track.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this box

A nice straightforward series, completed with Kakariki. We started at the Te Wanahu end so did these in reverse, to then return via Allans track and the puzzle cache series there. Plenty of people out enjoying the warm sunny day today. TFTC.
Co-ordinates spot on, but with the removal of the olf fence & construction of a new deer fence nearby, the distance is now 6m. TFTC
TaybeeDragon and I are off for a three day walk on Stewart Island. But we have a camper, so once you add in getting there and back, it's a three week trip. Day 6: Ashburton to Tekapo.
Farmland! I see Farmland! Civilisation! Ice! Okay, maybe no ice. Added a smiley.

My mission is my first 3 day tramp on Stewart Island. The Seagnoid has Xmas off so we are off on an epic adventure with Zara around the South Island. The Seagnoid is navigator and scribe, Zara and I have teamed up and Im cache logger. Day 6 - Wednesday - Ashburton to Tekapo today.
Wow what an amazing place this bush is. I love this walk - but whats that through the trees? Yes farmland but thankfully we dont have to leave the bush just yet. Another cache snagged on our journey. Cheers

Walked this track this morning, then walked back to the car at the Blandswood end via the road. All up about 2 hours and very pleasant. The cache here was a quick find although "2 metres from fence" is a bit low - my calibrated feet told me it was about 7 metres. Signed log, TFTC
Day #2 of our Labour Weekend trip to Geraldine and today StreetWalker and I wanted to visit Peel Forest and do some of the walks in the area. Unfortunately, the day started out very misty so a slight change of plans saw us drive up the Rangitata Gorge Rd in the morning before tackling the walks about midday when the mist lifted.
Aaah, this is more like it, nice gravel path and flat. After a bit of a bush bash to the fence, found a nice geotrail from GZ back to the track. TFTC.

#13294. Took a somewhat roundabout route from the track to GZ, but we found a much more direct route back. TFTC.
After visiting Mount Sunday, Ninalila and I went to visit Peel forest and did the fern walk.
Really nice one with huge trees and big roots.
All the boxes were easy to find
We signed the logbook with our team name : lekiprokos
Thank you for the cache and the discovery

Nice walk in the Peel Forest with fefe.adrien. Surprising to see such old native trees, we enjoyed this lovely track.

Short hunt then located. Seems to be about 4m in from fence line now but geotrail is accurate! Thanks
We have been on a road trip trough New Zealand for 25 days. Today we went for a walk in Peel Forest. Of course we also looked for some caches. This cache has been one of them
Thanks for the cache
Thanks for the cache
And another find was done that hot day. Luckily this walk is in the shade. Tftc!
Granville and Papa on an morning caching hunt. A short bit of searching required before Papa camp up with the goods. Salamat!
A fairly quick find on the somewhat easier return trip after walking Allans Track. The hint distance should be 6 or 7 metres. TFTC
Continuing along the walk, caches were still to be found. Once we got near GZ, the GPS decided to be stupid and misbehave. But that was okay because the noise from the birds were beautiful. I used my caching senses and found it. Thank you.
heading back down to the car picking up the "alternates " i left to make the return journey just as interesting... when i got to GZ the gps was off being confused again so had to resort to the clue - which immediately unsettled me a little, having got used to the north island way of staying on the tracks thanks to all the Kauri die back training... when i finally picked a low impact route, i was surprised to find my North island ruler must have been from a different calibration issue as the south islander version is twice and a bit longer according to the clue;-) ( must get one ! i always thought it was the dorklanders who made every thing seem longer and bigger then reality? lol )
I was off to Mt Peel to sign off a few caches and a few on the way as well. I found it 6m from the fence.
Cheers for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
Very enjoyable walk through the forest. Wouldn't have known about the walking tracks around here if it wasn't for the geocaches so thanks for placing them all
Knowing 8man was in town for a couple weeks holiday a caching trip was planned. Being midwinter limited options but we ended up settling on a day trip to Mt Peel...with an early start. The publishing of a few new caches made us change our planned route south and score a couple early morning ftfs. A great start to the day.
Walked Allen's Track.....now time to head back via 'Verns' Track.....hilarious fun with Tim and Rob...
Quick find and sign.....and just about back at our starting point.

Out with 8ManAfter and Team_Gaters on a mad mission today and we headed out at 6am to head to the hills. Our plan was to try and do a bit of caching at Mt Peel as we had a day to play with as 8Man was in town. TG and I umed and ahed about what to do and this plan was hatched as it was 'close' and not dependant on crossing mountain passes. We had a great time and heaps of laughs. Good fun all around. We did a 4.5hr walk around Mt Peel, had a great lunch at Stavely and then headed up Scotts track to score a cache that has been unfound for 2.5 years and to boot we scored two FTFs in the morning! Ended up being out 12 hours and scoring a beer to finish off the day!
Quick find and we are getting closer to our start point.
Thanks for the cache.
