A cracker day to be doing some geocaching at Mt Peel. No problem locating this cache but the paper is damp, just ok to write on. TFTC
Found with NZDi. As for the cache, after my experience with the previous three finds on this track, I made sure I read the hint after leaving the previous cache. This time the hinted item showed up within 5m of where c:geo said it should be which is about par for the course with this app, so it seems that the 27m to 31m inaccuracy experienced in the previous three caches had work itself out.
It is Easter weekend and it is time to cross off one of the things on our bucket list, which is to visit the Peel Forest area. We headed south from Blenheim yesterday and overnighted in Rangiora in order to break up the trip. That was an uninspiring place to cache with a miserable strike rate. We arrived at the DOC campground well before check-in time but found out the camp custodians were from Blenheim too, and they let us have our site early. After setting up, we did the Kahikatea Track before lunch. After lunch we decided to do the Fern Track walk starting at the Te Wanahu end and heading to Blandswood. We managed to get six of the seven caches, but it seems as though No. 4 has been archived. The track was really muddy so instead of going back the way we came, we decided to return along Blandswood Road. While doing this we got caught up in a Police SAR operation looking for an autistic, non-verbal 11 year old boy who went missing while doing the Dennistoun Loop Track. We ended up supporting the distraught father while the search operation was under way. In the end it was a successful outcome as the boy was found about three hours after going missing.

Walking the Fern Track, this was the fourth find of the day. The track was a little muddy but very enjoyable, saw no other walkers. Was accompanied by loud birdsong for the entire stroll; TFTC
Yippee. This is my 600th. Out walking with Judith Richards and grabbing some geos. TFTC
Lovely walk, quite busy today but thankfully not when we looking for cache just on track.
Found as per hint thanks for the cache 1066.

Enjoying my walk along here thanks 1066 - its been way too long since I have completed any walks at Peel Forest. TFTC # 16,465
We enabled our geocaches now that geocaching is once more allowed under Level 2 guidelines. Happy Caching.
Disabled for the period of isolation so that you cannot catch the virus from this cache.
During our travel in NZ we did not have mobile data. So this log is written, when back home.
Third day in Peel Forest: We headed out to hike around Allans Track and back to the campground via Fern Walk. m3h4 had lots of fun solving all the mysteries. The hints helped a lot with finding the caches. Also GPS reception on the phone was not reliable, but taking the Garmin helped with good positioning.
A fav-point was given to Fern Walk #1 for the great caches.
Thanks for hiding! Found together with m3h4.

After hiking Allan track this was a pleasant walk to get back to the campground.

The host of the B&B where we stayed last night had Peel Forest as recommendation for hiking - so we came here and decided to hike the Fern Walk. And it was a nice surprise and much fun doing so. An interesting kind of "Forest" - since we don't have such big ferns back home ...
We found most of the caches along the trail, except one. But we liked this little adventure very much.
Thank you for placing and keeping the caches here!

We are finally home and I am trying to catch up on logging some of the caches we found on our holiday.
We had come to this area somewhat unexpectedly, we were further down the South Island finding the TMGT caches until the extreme weather made us head north again. So with a message to a friend we were set up for a couple of days in this area.
I had just come through Allans Track which was about as much as I could comfortably handle on my own and I was heading back to the camper van via Fern Walk.
This was a really pretty walk and much more like the terrain I am happy to wander along on my own.
The cache was found really quickly, the log signed and returned as I had found it.
Thanks for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley

had a lovely walk today through the ferns and native forest. A few fantails kept us company at times. The track was a bit challenging after the very moist night weather conditions, a couple of found sticks helped Lytteltonwitch and I negotiate our way round, apologies for the cut and paste logs after this. All finds were safe and found according to hint. TFTC
While Andy went for a walk up Little Peel yesterday, I started solving the puzzles in the area on my in/out 1 bar of data reception. Today we headed out to pick up the solved ones and any other caches we came across on our walk. Parked at the Blandswood Road end and did the Emily, Rata Fern and Big Tree tracks on the way back to the campground.
Heading along Fern Track now on the way back to the campground. Track is fairly busy today so we are having to stop and wait for the muggles to depart often. All caches along this track were quick finds. tftc

The forecast for the Easter weekend was rubbish after today so I bundled the family up and told them we were getting some exercise. It took a little longer than planned (5.5 hours for the loop along Allan's Track and back on Fern Walk) but the kids really enjoyed it and got nice and muddy.
No worries here, nice and simple thanks. Cheers

When we arrived in the GZ area, there was a muggle family sitting on the bench nearby. We first looked for the cache and when found it, ReCached explained to the guys what we were doing. Thankfully, they already knew about Geocaching and were quite interested in it. TFTC 1066!

This was a case of trust the clue and your geosense, not the GPS . Signal was bouncing all over the place pm I ignored it and thought like a geocacher. Left a token
found all safe and secure on a geo adventure to have a look at new places and go where I have not been before log book perfect 5/5
Another quick find along this lovely walkway. Will be back to find the other caches another day! Thanks
Enjoyed a visit to Peel Forest. We did the Fern walk and found the caches along the way. TFTC.
On my way from Geraldine to Methven. Everybody told me to visit Peel Forest, so I did. It was quite a steep way up, but I managed. This one was not where I was searching; it was way easier, which I found out after some bush bashing. Then I was pretty happy with Fred's seat. And after eating lunch, I decided I wasn't going to continue. The path was going down pretty quickly and I needed to go back, too. 1, 2 and 3 were found in good order. Thanks for hiding!
Together with arbor95 I am on a holiday tour in New Zealand.
We are two Germans, old friends since a long time. Together we visited a lot of other countries in the past, even before we started geocaching. [^]
For our trip we usually looking for some extraordinary caches.
Therefore we had mostly a lot of fun.
Today we hiked the allans track and back we did the fern walk. It was awonderful day in the woods.
Thank You very much for this geocache, for the challenge and for the maintaining.
Greetings from tripleclaus to 1066.

During our holidays in Newzealand we searched some Caches.
A wonderful day on this track.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this box

A nice straightforward series, completed with Kakariki. We started at the Te Wanahu end so did these in reverse, to then return via Allans track and the puzzle cache series there. Plenty of people out enjoying the warm sunny day today. TFTC.
Another team effort with TeamTelfer. A lot of competition amongst the younger members to be the FTF.

TaybeeDragon and I are off for a three day walk on Stewart Island. But we have a camper, so once you add in getting there and back, it's a three week trip. Day 6: Ashburton to Tekapo.
For some reason I have that this is well sheltered from the weather in my notes. Well, duh! ?? Isn't this walk under trees? But shelter from the weather is right - its a stinking hot day. Still, nice to have a seat here.

My mission is my first 3 day tramp on Stewart Island. The Seagnoid has Xmas off so we are off on an epic adventure with Zara around the South Island. The Seagnoid is navigator and scribe, Zara and I have teamed up and Im cache logger. Day 6 - Wednesday - Ashburton to Tekapo today.
I am really loving this walk through some awesome bush with lots of ferns and some majestic old trees. The shelter here is welcome on such a hot day. Another one bagged on the way. Cheers

Walked this track this morning, then walked back to the car at the Blandswood end via the road. All up about 2 hours and very pleasant. The cache here was a quick find. There sure are some magnificent tree specimens along here! Signed log, TFTC
Really appreciate the bridge and bench on this track. Appreciate the logs that are easy to sign in the caches. NINO TFTC
Day #2 of our Labour Weekend trip to Geraldine and today StreetWalker and I wanted to visit Peel Forest and do some of the walks in the area. Unfortunately, the day started out very misty so a slight change of plans saw us drive up the Rangitata Gorge Rd in the morning before tackling the walks about midday when the mist lifted.
There's some magnificent trees in this part of the forest, and some past their best as well. After a looking in some wrong places, SW found the right one and we were soon signing the logbook. TFTC.

#13295. Troodles went off track a bit early. I spotted a rotten tree a bit further on, and the cache wasn't far away. TFTC.
After visiting Mount Sunday, Ninalila and I went to visit Peel forest and did the fern walk.

Today we walked a couple of hours along Allans track and then ferns track and found quite a few caches along the way. Thanks for placing and maintaining all these caches.
We must be the slowest hikers in the world. Ok, we were looking for many caches along the way but still managed to turn Allan's track + Fern Walk into a 5.5 hr hike.
Allan must love going uphill, not sure why until we saw the view. Coming down the fern walk we could really enjoy the forest. Thanks for the caches along these trails.

On tour in NZ! We had to talk with some Italian muggels to distract them but all worked out well! After this one we decided to not go further on because we where hungry and the food in the car far away!
To safe space and time we logged as cg3 (caching girls 3)!
Tftc and greetings from Austria

We have been on a road trip trough New Zealand for 25 days. Today we went for a walk in Peel Forest. Of course we also looked for some caches. This cache has been one of them
Thanks for the cache

Granville and Papa on an morning caching hunt. A short bit of searching required before Papa camp up with the goods. Thanks for the seat Fred [D] Salamat!
A quick easy find on the somewhat easier return trip after walking Allans Track. The rotten tree is an impressive specimen. TFTC
Thoroughly enjoyed our walk along this track. By this time the small cacher (10 months) had had lunch and fell asleep snuggled into the baby carrier.
This cache was definitely placed in an amazing spot. After walking up the steep steps, it was nice to finally see a seat to sit down and enjoy the view. My friend sat down and looked at the view while I looked for the cache. It was in the first place I looked! Signed it while sitting on the seat. Thank you.
