Fern Walk 6 (Canterbury) Peel Forest, South Island, New Zealand

No cache here for me today either. I could see where it had probably been hidden but there was nothing there.

As we are not in New Zealand to be able to check this cache we will have to archive it. That way if someone wants to put another one in its space, they can. Thanks to all the people who enjoyed this series.

Pretty sure we found the hiding place but the cupboard was bare. Watch out for some ongaonga seedlings here, I managed to place my hand on a couple and it's still hurting.

This one was plainly visible in its hide...actually had 3 non cachet entries in it, thus the lack of concealment. Replaced out of sight as intended. One of the entries indicated they were interested and would research geocaching!

Today we walked a couple of hours along Allans track and then ferns track and found quite a few caches along the way. Thanks for placing and maintaining all these caches.

We must be the slowest hikers in the world. Ok, we were looking for many caches along the way but still managed to turn Allan's track + Fern Walk into a 5.5 hr hike.
Allan must love going uphill, not sure why until we saw the view. Coming down the fern walk we could really enjoy the forest. Thanks for the caches along these trails.

Continuing on the walk, I thought that I should find as many caches as possible going one way instead of trying to do them both ways. Found this cache with extreme accuracy which was awesome. Thank you.

Once again the gps stormed off all confident like.. and i was starting to think.., we should be hear now, and look there is a spot that calls "cache me ., reaching for the device when it agreed.. but once again it then decided i should walk back and forward and back and to the side..."so i just walked back to the obvious spot and sure enough it had clearly called to the CO also...

I was off to Mt Peel to sign off a few caches and a few on the way as well.

Knowing 8man was in town for a couple weeks holiday a caching trip was planned. Being midwinter limited options but we ended up settling on a day trip to Mt Peel...with an early start. The publishing of a few new caches made us change our planned route south and score a couple early morning ftfs. A great start to the day.
Walked Allen's Track.....now time to head back via 'Verns' Track.....hilarious fun with Tim and Rob... Quick find and sign. Onwards.

Out with 8ManAfter and Team_Gaters on a mad mission today and we headed out at 6am to head to the hills. Our plan was to try and do a bit of caching at Mt Peel as we had a day to play with as 8Man was in town. TG and I umed and ahed about what to do and this plan was hatched as it was 'close' and not dependant on crossing mountain passes. We had a great time and heaps of laughs. Good fun all around. We did a 4.5hr walk around Mt Peel, had a great lunch at Stavely and then headed up Scotts track to score a cache that has been unfound for 2.5 years and to boot we scored two FTFs in the morning! Ended up being out 12 hours and scoring a beer to finish off the day!
Done, quick, onwards...

I saw a bush robin in this section of forest. You don't often see these. Well not in The Port Hills.

Looked around quite a while.

Had a really long look around, and no luck. If the light is right, the hidey hole is well lit so cache would be apparent. Or we just missed it, of course.

Out on a walk with Mike and Millie. Cachsense let me down today - downloaded all the cache descriptions before leaving home as I knew data coverage was patchy here, but once we started on the walk the app wouldn't show the cache descriptions (or hints) and with sometimes vague GPS, this made this series a bit more of a challenge. Very enjoyable walk though. TFTC!

We are on the road again!

Today we found some very nice geocaches and enjoyed it to walk along every single trail.

Mallorcatommy and I were on our journey through the southern island of New Zealand. With the help of geocaches we came to so many beautiful places, saw breath-taking landscapes and had, all in all a very wonderful journey! Thank you to all owners for placing all those nice geocaches!

Went for a run and nabbed all the caches on this lovely wee trail. Cords jumped a bit from time to time but found them all thanks to the great hints. Took 45 mins to nail them all while running on through. TFTC and series!

Travelling on New Zealand's roads, Geocaches like this one are always a good reason to leave our camper, walk for a bit and get some air. For this reason, we have really enjoyed looking for heaps of interesting Caches, sometimes in places that we wouldn't have found by ourselves. On our way we've met lots of friendly and welcoming people and the landscapes were breathtaking

If we then find the Geocache, like this one, that makes our awesome holiday here even better.
We would like to thank all owners of the Geocaches we found for their effort and for showing us those interesting spots.

This was the second find for me on this walk. The cache was visible from 10 metres so I re-hid and covered so it's less likely to be muggled. TFTC

Strolling along the track to no5 and there in full view was no 6!!!! Great.

Spotted this trail a wee while back, and thought wow! That looks like awesome fun!! So a plan was made.

Decided that Waitangi day was a good enough occasion, esp with the event on, and so we headed here for a wonder!!

Had fun going round, getting a good hike in, and finding tons of caches with La Vista and Bald Ed who we bumped into by chance. Busy trail here! Cachers and non!

After doing the puzzles, we came back this way, collecting up more caches

Out on a Waitangi Day caching binge with La Vista (R) and having met up with Sonia 22642 & Kommandant HVS earlier on Allans Track we were glad to move into easier territory for the homeward trek via the Fern Walk to Blandswood. Nice quick find. We are on a roll. TFTC

Last day of the year and finally some fine weather. Youngest son Boba Fett clone really wanted a chance to find a cache, so after checking the hint I made sure his brothers let him go ahead and find it. Which he did easily as it was uncovered.
Got surprised by a muggle who had also spotted it without the use of a GPSr.

The weather was just right today for going for a bush walk. Lucky we wore gumboots as with all the rain recently there was some rather muddy spots along the track.

Last day of the year and Mum and Dad wanted to go out for a walk seeing as we finally had some fine weather after days of rain.

My turn, my turn. Mum said I could find a cache and pointed me in the right direction. The cache was really easy to find as it didn't have anything covering it. I reached in and got it and took it to Mum to sign the logbook for me.

Was able to wander around Allan/Fern and collect a good number of caches in about three hours. Thanks for the series and for bringing me to these tracks. A nice walk on a clear but cool afdternoon - still a bit of frost on the ground in places.

Did part of Fern Walk backwards after heavy rain, track was very slippery in places. TFTC
