Super clever wee cache TFTC nice easy find for our trip from Wanaka to Oamaru

25-Oct-24
We started our beautiful journey through the South Island in Christchurch. Here we went on a big sightseeing tour and visited lots of caches. We then travelled via Lake Tapeko, Dansey Pass and Moeraki to Dunedin for the MEGA event. In Dunedin we visited the MEGA events and together with many other cachers we found many caches around Dunedin. A few days later, we travelled on through the Catlins to the southernmost part of Bluff. We then visited Te Anau and the tourist town of Queenstown. In Wanaka we went on another sightseeing tour until we reached the west coast via the Haast Pass. We hiked to Fox Glacier and Franz Josef Glacier. We continued along the west coast up to Westport, stopping at various sights along the way. Richmond and Nelson, the sunniest cities, were also on our list.A few days later we reached the east coast again in the wine region of Picton and Blenheim. After a few days, we travelled back to Christchurch via Kaikoura. We visited many geological sites, completed many adventure cahes and found many caches along the way.We travelled almost 3500 km and had so many great experiences. Many thanks to all the ownersTeam sissifalke

A plan was hatched quite a while ago when the Dunedin Mega was announced to come over to the South Island again.I have only been to New Zealand twice before and I loved the South Island. So a chance to come back for a Mega was a no brainer for me.Everything was booked and I flew in on Saturday after a bit of a delay. After a great look around Mount Cook yesterday and an over night stay in Twizel its time to head to Oamaru for tonight. So Day 5 of my Mega NZ trip begins and Im on my own again so lets go find a few more caches along the way.Up early as per usual and after a nice drive around Twizel and my morning coffee it was time to hit the road again.Well I have come to the end of the dams and another great read on the information boards. This clever and sneaky cache was soon located and I added my name to the log. Thanks drawp TFTC.

I can confirm the spider is dead ( it died of natural causes ) and has been shaken out of the cache - its final testing place. There may be other spiders alive and weaving as there were plenty of webs covering the cache. Tfc but not the spider experience!!

I was very impressed by the imposing dam buildings that I came across as I drove NW. Sadly the viewpoint is on the other side from them, but it's still a fascinating structure from any angle. Tricky hide was a little awkward to spot but I managed to sign and return before three carloads of tourists pulled in. Tftc!

Day 7: Up the WaitakiThe next bit of our journey brings us up the Waitaki on another fine but sometimes blustery day. We started the morning off wandering around Oamaru, and then drove up to visit the reservoirs and towns along the Waitaki. This proved to be yet another productive day of exploring and caching, so thanks for all the fun caches in lovely locations along the way. (End of the cut and paste bit) Heres the specific log for this cache: Another one of the many dams we have encountered on our trip and this one was made a tad difficult for me for reasons I too cannot fathom in hindsight. I hopped the fence here for a cache that really didnt require such a stunt. Silly me, but at least the cache was found. TFTC!

Find #7092
Found on March 14, 2023

We are from Abilene, Texas, USA and have come to New Zealand to visit with a friend. We plan on going after different Cache Types while here. We will also find geocaches while going sight seeing.

Thank you, drawp for placing this cache for all to find. We sign log sheets either as Love Cachers or LCers.

Driving over 50 miles to have...
Rusty barbed wire ripping through your clothes...
Curious rattlesnakes that come out of nowhere...
Itchy mosquito bites on every inch of your body...
A 40 mph wind gust blowing sand into your ears, nose and mouth...
Cactus needles getting stuck deep in your hands, arms and legs...
Thorny Mesquite trees scratching you up from head to toe...
Some or all of these things on a hike through 101° heat...
To sign your name or trade a toy...
SOUND LIKE FUN TO YOU?

It does to us, we're geocachers in West Texas! - {Taken from a Greater Abilene Association geocoin.}

Geo-Roadtrip in the South Island with TrinityNZ and JustlookingOO to collect some PWGT's and as many other caches as we can.
We stopped to look at the dam and checked if there was a cache here, and of course there was. We let TrinityNZ do the honours with this one. SUPER windy! Nearly lost the cache, log, and our phones!

What a very windy day to come to this spot! LL113 and JustLookingOO and I are on a road trip and decided to stop here to look at the view and look for this cache. After waiting a few minutes for muggles to depart, I honed in on the location. It did take me a few minutes to locate the cache, and the others gave me some suggestions on where to look. All good with the cache, once found. Thanks for bringing us here Smile

Smile Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … as our rig is so big, there aren’t many places that we can pull over to do ‘park’n’grab caches’ … so we were lucky with this spot … found this with no issues, log completed & cache returned … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... Having grown up with my father working at Mangahao Power Station stopping her to view this was great.

Took a load of photos read all the info boards, and totally enjoyed this stop. Especially watching all the swirling water and all the eddies.

Thanks so much for putting this cache here.

Quick stop by the dam to have a look at the turbine. Clever hide. Both container and logbook are in good condition, even if the paper starts to tear in places, it is dry.
