The description reads that this cache is no longer being maintained. This is outside the guidelines.

19-Jun-06
Called by on my way past to Hurtles new GCA cache nearby and I can confirm that it is definately not where I found it last time and couldn't see it anywhere else around the area either. I would say its definately gone!

15-Jun-06
Went up there today to replace the cache container. Only to find that it was nowhere to be found! Definately NOT where we found/replaced it, and no where else it seems either.
We didn't want to leave a new cache container, just in case the old one is up there somewhere!
So we went across the gully and placed our first GCA cache. 'GA0474'
Maybe the last finder can go back and look see if it is still there?

13-Jun-06
We actually wrote....

"We'll head up there during the week for a look and replace what is necessary to get this up and running.
We're happy to adopt this, so will write to the owners in due course."

We haven't taken. We'll replace it on the spot, when we get there, "during the week", and write to the owners as well.

Besides, we're pretty sure that it is there, just not in a very good state.

12-Jun-06
Ok, it appears that we are the last logged finders. Even though Goodgollymissmolly seems to have found it but not logged it as a find!
We'll head up there during the week for a look and replace what is necessary to get this up and running.
We're happy to adopt this, so will write to the owners in due course.
Goodgollymissmolly found, it appears, in the same location as we did! It is not a very deep container. In fact it is a bottom wipes dispenser!
Stay tuned....

Is an easy find, once you negotiate that road. Glad they made the new one!! Cache is still there, but in a bad way. Log is saturated, pencil hardly writes on the wet pages, the baggie (and I did not have another!) is chewed in the corner. May suggest a better sealed cache and new logbook. Would be a shame to lose this cache as it's in a great location. Maybe we can start the theme up again?

12-Jun-06
I see TeamHurtle took it on the 11th. That would explain why we couldn't find it on the 12th. We look forward to getting back there, very speccy view & drive. We'll watch this & await a newbie cache.[^]

29-Apr-06
Only read the previous logs to this one as we were well on the way to GZ. There is almost definitely no trace of cache here. Doesn't sound like the owners will ever check on it judging by the cache description. Agreed it is a pity, some of the most spectacular views we've seen. Time for an archive?

29-Apr-06
The cache was indeed hard for us to find. It was wedged between the ground and a near horizontal branch on the embankment, on the uphill side of the road.

29-Apr-06
maybe a previous finder could have a look for the cache? Otherwise this area could be better utilised for a better maintained cache.

23-Feb-06
Hey, is this one still there? We had a good hunt around but couldn't locate it.

05-Feb-06
First DNF for the weekend. Checked all the likely locations along both sides of the road, given the previous logs wondering if the cache is still intact??. Beautiful views.

28-Nov-05
Visiting from Melbourne and staying at Marine Cove, Goolwa. The Island Hopper TB came from Hawaii with us. As this TB is a postcard, we came especially looking for this cache for him. Took some time to completely dry everything and re-pack into multiple zip-loc bags. Shame this cache as been abandoned...
Dropped: TB Forrests Pimpin Island Bug

28-Nov-05
[Additional hints to find the cache:]

Uphill side of road, wedged between horizontal branch and embankment, flat container wrapped in plastic.

Dropped TB Forrests Pimpin Island Bug -- official find log to follow when we get home from our holiday.

We wondered if this road was going to end - we must have went the long way - saw a few locals driving on the road in their utes. Great hiding spot! Gps good here! Notebook was a little damp (?even though it was ziplocked?) Discovered a few stinging nettles!

21-Jun-05
This was our 800th cache and quite a spectacular view here tonight as well as being very relevant as we are here in SA for a weeks holiday. The rain stopped long enough fpr us to retrieve and sign the book without getting wet
No postcards left. so no story to tell
Thanks Guys

13-Jun-05
Posspet let me drive to this one, which was great, considering there isnt too much of a chance that i would have taken my 2wd magna through here.

Dodged a couple of cyclists on the way in, before making an easy find further on.

Did a bit of cache maintenance, and sealed the cache in a zip lock bag.

Passed by with nephew. Made him drive me up the hill while I had the pie from the Aldinga Servo.

29-May-05
Found in company with Octogenerian after visiting Star of Greece 1 & 2. Great views, and its good to see evidence of so much planting on these denuded hills. We had no trouble with the road, but from the photo you can see others have! No postcards left, and the log still slightly damp. Will send you one of ours. Great concept, thanks.

02-Apr-05
As others have noted, the postcard supply has dried up. Logged this one nevertheless. Next time I go travelling, I’ll grab one and send it off. It would have been good to see these hills before they were completely denuded of trees Twisted

11-Mar-05
Nice concept. I'm always keen on a vacation. As noted in previous logs there are no postcards left so I will find one of my own and send it. Signed the somewhat damp log. Cheers, or should that be Bon Voyage.

03-Mar-05
Found on a way that i had never been before. Great drive but nearby was the evidence of some misdemeanour.
Signed log but there are no more postcards to send.

02-Mar-05
What a great road. Couldn’t resist going to the top and climbing a hill. The wind was blowing a gale.
Back at the cache site spent about 15 minutes locating the cache.
Alas the cupboard was bare.
It was still worth the drive and I signed the log.

We are on a virtual flying trip around the world with our virtual travel bug named Spider Wings. It started as a simulated Cessna 182 airplane. But recently we've started using other types of aircraft as the virtual availability of Cessnas seems to have wained somewhat. Our goal is to find at least one cache in each country we visit that is a good representation of what we know (or come to learn from our travel and related study) of that country. In the process we are getting a good idea of how many caches are out in the far reaches of the world. We hope you won't mind our virtual passage near your cache and will even enjoy the virtual "photo" of the area that we'd like to post. We'd also love to hear back from you regarding the photo and how well the simulator's coordinates did with locating your cache, and how the scenery compares to real life. We realize the simulator can't show everything.

Australia is our 251st country/territory. And since we have a great fondness of it and want to see more than just one part, we've decided to do at least one cache in each state.

South Australia is our 5th state. When looking for a cache for this state, we found the perfect one in yours.... how could we pass on one named Virtual Vacation on this virtual around the world trip. We found the area virtually beautiful and will be sending a "postcard" of our trip as well as posting some virtual pictures here. Thanks for letting us pay a virtual visit to the virtual vacation cache. - ST, Vernal, Utah, USA

05-Dec-04
Loved the idea of the virtual vac. We took the last post card in the box and have sent it to Burra. Cheers, Team Auster

26-Nov-04
Found after a bumpy drive up the hill. I took one of the two remaining cards – nothing left. I won’t mention which one I took. Its an interesting concept – I like the idea.

More great views from up there. Thanks for the cache. All I have to do is to remember to send the card when I return home to Melbourne.

17-Jul-04
Aaron and Dave had a neat time at the Kentucky Derby. Will post you all the details of the holiday soon. A great little track away from the main road. The car bodies are happily grazing in the gully below. Thanks for a great location and great views. Cheers.

04-Jul-04
Klem's Mob sent us a postcard from New Mexico, Land of Enchantment.

"Santa Fe? We thought we were heading for Mexico City. We must have taken a wrong turn at Albuquerque.
Consoled with tequila slammers.

Cold & windy today. The track was good, the view was hazy. The cache was easily found thanks to a lot of luck. We took a card leaving only three remaining. The cache is still a little damp and it needs a new pencil or a sharpener. Does the addressee know about the setup? Thanks LGG & J

20-Jun-04
Slider & Smurf sent us the St. Louis Union Station postcard.

"Hi all,
So much for visiting a train station - Union Station is now just another shopping mall - albeit with a pretty cool window!
We're off to a baseball game tomorrow to watch the Cardinals play the Mariners. We may also pop in to the Anheuser-Busch brewery (home of Bud beer!)
Also stopped by the gateway arch for the obligatory tourist photos. Unfortunatly we don't have easy internet access or we'd email them!
Caches are thick on the ground here, so we've collected a few on our travels - but there's still no place like home!
Cheers.
Slider & Smurf"

18-Jun-04
We'd tried this one a couple of years ago with no luck, finally made it back and this time success!! Took a card - looks like about four postcards left before a restock is required. Lovely blue sky, but we were glad for a solid cachemobile in the strong winds!!

15-May-04

Wow. What a view. What a track. Definitely a spot to take the interstaters on a day trip. I ended up here at night. City lights and Comet Neat nicely visible overhead. TNLN as a very thin cache. Thanks very much B&B. Clear skies, Astro.

Team Raider @ 2300 after grabbing a virgin down at "See the Sea"

Paul was in the Geo-AWD laughing as i searched for GZ...
I made my find after about 10 minutes as it began to rain...

Took a card.......

Cheers

26-Apr-04
great view over the sea tnln
cheers

Richary provided their own postcard (not technically in the spirit of things but I'll let it pass)titled "S námi nejste nikdy sami..." .

Having a great time after checking out all the cheap beer in Prague. Cesky Krumlov (?) is a great town to look around and ride the funicalar (sic) railway for some great views. Karlovy Vara has some great spas as well.

Hello Team Bluey,

We note the address to send postcards has recently changed! Will postcards (accompanying story) sent to the old address be log? Red Face

Cheers, Rav 4 Raiders

14-Feb-04
2nd time lucky, a lot less overgrown than when I tried back in November. Made life a bit easier. Have got plenty of postcards at home from overseas trips so will choose one of those and send it off. Cheers!

01-Feb-04
Whilst travelling the 'uptrack', passed what appeared to be fellow cachers coming down, they grinned, we grinned, exchanged the polite wave (standard finger lift off the steering wheel). Found the cache, with no entries in the log from earlier in the day. Must have been muggles trying out their suspension! Ah well...we're stateside. Time to get the passports renewed!

Great idea and location Team Bluey. Check your mailbox real soon!

Cheers, Rav 4 Raiders

P.S Wonder what your local postman/mistress thinks when you get another 'surreal' postcard!!!

Team Langy! & The Gregorys Down Under Cache Expedition #1

WOW! We all loved the views and there was general excitement when we reached the top of a nearby hill climb (there are some great looking tracks around here!). After a short rummage through GZ the cache was found - slightly damp (in the middle of summer! [:o]) and so we added another layer of baggage between the container and its "cammoflauge".

The postcard will arrive soon! Big Grin

2nd attempt at this one. This time found it and took p/card from US with reference to preious life of Reluctant of Seaford......Great off road trip, an added bonus; Mr Pops loved it.

22-Jan-04
We were coming back home after watching stage 3 of the Tour Down Under cycle race......Nice drive, our 1963 EH Holden seemed to like the low gear ascent. Found the 'spot', but no cache. Possibly us as we are still newbies. Took photo of the wonderous vista and will keep that as our memento.

Gregs, Charley Barley and Mr Pops (Reluctant was at work).

09-Nov-03
Had a good look around and saw plenty of spots where a cache could have been hidden but no luck with this one. Didn't look like there was anywhere else it could have been, though the thistles were starting to come out meaning searches had to be conducted slightly carefully. Hopefully someone else can confirm it is still here and I will have another go.

31-Aug-03
Found at 4.10pm
A cold day but tremendous views.
The cache was slightly damp. the plastic bag cover is not sufficient protection.
Took a postcard which we will post shortly.
Thanks L,G,G &J

Our 2nd cache for the afternoon (other caches being Chocolate Starfish On The Hill & Gate 3). There are some fantastic views from this location as I've been here a few time before. But not today... Fogged Out! Typical Winter's day [|)]

Found 13/07/03 (13th July) @ 4:40pm by Paul & Monique (Team Stargazer)

Took: Post Card
Left: Nothing

Will send off the post card in the very near future Smile

Cheers guys! Wink

21-Jun-03
Worth the visit just for the view. Only a little spoiled by some dumped car bodies. Done in co-operation with Team Jeckyl who took a postcard and will post it on.

21-Jun-03
Found by Gwen & David in conjuction with Team Spanner. Been up this road many a time. The clouds obstructed some views today but, as always, very beautiful - our Fleurieu Peninsula [^] Took a postcard and will forward in the near future.

26-Apr-03
We came, We saw, We ooo'd and aaa'd at the view!
Found the cache easy enough. Parked next to it! :0)

Left nothing.
Took Nothing.

We'll send one of our own post cards!

Cheers

Scott & Siobhan

Went into this one without the cache notes so I wasn't sure what it was all about.

I didn't take a postcard, but will send one from my own supply.

22-Apr-03
Found 11:25, Great location, with fantastic views, just a little early to be frequenting the establimant at the base of the hill Sad Thanks Guys.

Where has this road been hiding all my life. Pretended to be Colin McRay rally driving our way up to the cache in the darkness of night.

But my visit to the WRC is another story. And that's what will be on your card.

Found it with a little help from our friends at TGC. Swedish Froggomobile was not as comfortable on that road as the other froggomobile.

Looks like we went on vacation. Having a lovely time. Cards and letters to follow soon.

03-Mar-03
Strange yesterday we looked and looked but no cigar. Must have been off.

We will return.

Found at 13:30.
Looks like we're taking a virtual vacation on the way home from a real one. Tough spot to turn the car around when you have a trailer attached.

Gordon Patrick Samuel did not have the cache notes with them when they got this one. Therefore, they did not realise they had to take a card to post. Instead we have a log of a real message from their daughter in Nepal.

Hello to you all at home,

I am really missing you all (just keep thinking that any way!). Nepal is so wonderful and the people here live such a simple life. We were able to see Mt Everest from the plane as we flew in. It was better then you could ever imagine!

Today we went to a budist temple and a hindu temple. We were at the hindu temple in time to see the cremations. It was very intersting but I am not sure if I would like to die that way..there is a public viewing point for the sick whilst they wait for death.

I am sending you this email from the highest internet cafe in the world at Namchee Bazaar which is about 3,400 metres above sea level. We have two porters who speak English to guide us. It is simply amazing being able to see Mt Everst from so many different angles.

I'll be home soon,
Your loving daughter

SUTTER'S FORT, CALIFORNIA

4th July, 1839

Hello Lyn and Gavin,

I hear our city is now three years old! We have been here in Sacramento for eight months now. We left Quebec last year, went through St Paul Minnesota, and into Sacramento via Carson City. I can hardly remember Adelaide, but I'll return whe we find gold!

We met a man here, John Sutter. He has a 48,000 acre agricultural empire. He let us stay with him and his Swiss friends at this fort. However, Sutter is rubbing some of the goldseekers the wrong way. I hope they keep their distance.....

from Leigh & Brian, Ann & Jess.

10-Nov-02
Found by Brian and Leigh.
Used this cache to break the journey between Second Valley and Adelaide after our dive. Leigh found the cache and guess what... we took a postcard! Had fun on the road, but the fun came to an end as we returned the bitumen down the bottom. Cheers.

I'll try again. here is the photo of Silvestor and Olliver taking their virtual vacation

21-Oct-02
POSTCARD FROM KANSAS, LAND OF CONTRASTS

Hi Lyn and Gavin,

Having always loved the movie 'Witness' with Harrison Ford about the Amish Community, we are actually here. Wish I could bring back a quilt. Generally they don't have anything to do with modern technology, although the tourist dollar is undermining the resolve of some groups. Just imagine having your farm on the tourist route and trying to maintain your beliefs. They don't like to have their photos taken so we found this postcard of a typical buggy.

We hope to be back for the SA Cache Picnic. See you then.

Best Wishes, Mary & David (maccamob)

19-Oct-02
This is a photo of Silvester with Olliver ( Olly)a fellow travel bug having a virtual vacation. Olly hails from New York so we have taken the New York post card and Olly will give us a tour with the sights that only a local would know.

07-Oct-02
Found 4.30pm.
Left Deep Thought Cache and headed off to this one. Beautiful drive on a cold and blustery day. Have spent quite a lot of time in this area in the past, but todays drive took us thru areas we had never seen before. At the top of the dirt road we had to park for a while until a photographer had finished snapping the stunning views. We could not search for the cache without him seeing us. The GPS pointed us straight at the hiding place, but it still took us a while to find the cache as it is well hidden. Cache needs new pen -blue colouring pencil very difficult to write with particularly as the log is slightly damp. Sending card soon.

What an interesting road!! It was like having a holiday in itself cause there was so much to see.

We left the clue sheet home so didn't realise that we were supposed to take a postcard but we've sent something to Team Bluey anyway.

Sorry Jeremy, didn't see your hubcap.

01-Oct-02
Found by Mary & David at 0830. After an early start from Goolwa, we came looking for an interesting vacation spot. Had attempted this some months ago with Slider & Smurf without success, and almost gave up again this time. Mary came up with the goods; very satisfying to achieve victory. Now off for our Virtual Vacation. We'll post the card very soon. Many thanks to Lyn, Gavin, Graham and Julie.

21-May-02
POSTCARD FROM PLANT CITY, FLORIDA

(However, here we hear about somewhere else they have also been holidaying - Longreach Qld)

We are on the last day of our latest holiday. 2002, The Year Of The Outback! The 'Spirit' got us here after our team ran out of Power at the Gabba last Sunday. We've just stashed our first ever cache!

Look forward to meeting you in June.

Trev & Carolyn

POSTCARD FROM 'FITZGERALD'S', LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

Dear Lyn & Gavin,

Greetings from the USA and Las Vegas. We visited here with our friend Paul Payne. Liz worked with Paul in Woomera when they both worked for the USAF. We had a great drive through the desert after leaving Los Angeles. As we approached Las Vegas there was an incredible glow of light marking the town after all those miles of darkness and nothing. It was quite a sight. The real excitement of the trip though, came when we visited the second casino and Paul invested a small amount of his $US200 spending money on a game of Keno, and managed to win $US20,000. He reckoned his Aussie companions had brought him lots of luck!

See ya soon, Love Liz and Bruce

P.S. This is a true story!

29-Apr-02
POSTCARD FROM 'THIS IS THE PLACE' MONUMENT, SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH

Hi! Salt Lake City is fantastic! The Olympics were great too, watching Australia win GOLD!!! Quite a lot of the city is religious - Mormons (these people practise bigamy!)?? The HQ of Sonic Innovations is here also and we visited this numerous times as this is the company Jeremy works for. Well, we are having a ball - but are missing caching in Australia.
[:X] Team Geocoopers. Jeremy, Hayley, Grant, Phil, Lee & Crew.

29-Apr-02
POSTCARD FROM THE KENTUCKY MOUNTAINS

Hi All,

Sorry I haven't written earlier but I've been lapping up this hillbilly haven. The country is magnificent, a bit like Clare, with fertile farmed valleys and wood ridges and hills. The trees are bursting with Spring greenery. Looks magnificent.

The locals are a bit suspicious and surly to strangers, but once you break through the reserve they are fine. The local produce (no brand name, no excise and NO questions) is cheap, fiery and effective. I've had some good parties with them - though neither side can understand the accents, especially late at night.

See you soon. Y'all take care now, y'hear. Alex

P.S. I'm going caving at Mammoth Caves tomorrow. The Wild Cave Tour. Six hours of rough caving.

26-Apr-02
Found by Team GeoCoopers. Lost a hub cap driving up the sketchy road. When we first got there the GPS didn't know what was going. We started looking on the wrong side of the track but ground zero later changed to the other side and we found it. Our postcard has also been sent.

21-Apr-02
Scrambled around for a while looking for the cache until we finally found it. Coordinates were pretty spot on. Took the postcard of strawberry fields in Florida.

21-Apr-02
Found by Liz and Bruce. What a great drive the Rav 4 loved it and so did we. The views were excellent it was such a clear day. We found the cache after a short search. We also found a huge light brown snake about 3 metres from the cache. It was sitting quietly on the side of the track and then proceeded to cross the track and we were impressed at its length. It must have been very very close to Bruce when he had been playing photographer!

14-Apr-02
Those of us stuck at home eagerly await the arrival of postcards from those who have logged this cache. We are sure others are also waiting to hear what you did on your 'virtual vacation'.

It's easier to drive down that sort of road than up.....Now I'm off on a vacation.
