With 20-40mm forecast for tomorrow we thought we should head out today to find some of the caches we had planned to do tomorrow. After a lovely lunch and a Gin and tonic at the Oatlands Distillery we headed out for a couple of hours of caching. We were so glad we did as the weather ended up being ok despite the very cold wind. Great spot for a cache, nice quick find walking from the U turn spot. TFTC
In Tassie for the next few months. So many great places to visit and so many different caches to find.Out meandering around these roads picking up a few hides along the way. This was one that was found. An easy enough find at GZ.Thanks Cached for placing the cache and doing the maintenance needed, so we can find this cache.
Yay... Finally! The railway worker Muggles have left the area and i can now go down and have a go for this one, even though i have done nothing but drive past it countless times well today, on my way home the green box along with the (st peter's pass tasmania) hide will be grabbed as they were in my sights
Drove right down to the huge parking area the workers made for themselves and did the rest on foot observing closely for any rail movements.
The cache was found immediately and it's dry log within was signed at 12:25 on Tuesday 29 August 2023.

Found with silverfox1970 on our way to Oatlands for a day trip. Lovely scenery, and don't be put off by the large pile of rocks next to the railway lines TFTC.
Out with a muggle colleague exploring Outlands and Ross. A visit to cemeteries for the muggle while I jogged around energetically grabbing caches. Nice little stop here on the way home. Love exploring new little parts of Tassie like this. Thanks cached
Thanks for all the history information it was very interesting, and subsequent placement of cache to draw us away from highway TFTC
After reading there were ruins here I just had to stop! Didn't take me pen so took a photo instead. Tftc.
Easy find. Found with Gyrosweeper on a trip down to Hobart for BANFF. Ruins exciting to explore and would have been a welcome stop in days past. TFTC
For all the times I have driven this road, this is a feature that I did not know existed. Thanks for bringing us here. That establishment would have been substantial in its day and would have represented many hours of skilled and unskilled labour to construct.
Have traveled passed here many times, usually with the caravan. Today we were sans caravan so we stopped and made a quick find. Great location

Cache no 100 for us!
Update on the road, since roadworks you can no longer drive across the train line, can park and walk tho.

Found on the way from Pioneer to Hobart during my motorcycle holiday on this marvelous island.
A very interesting location that we've passed many times but never noticed. Thanks for showing us this place. TFTC!

Trip from N.W. to Hobart deserves a few travel stops. Who needs to hurray eh ? No.5 for the day. Nice easy access after recent road upgrades. Cache well concealed, approachable and in good condition. TFTC Cached.
Great our enjoyed journey along trip to Hobart. Found your cache today. Cached, thank you so much for placing it.
Driven pst here many times but never felt confident to drive down here when there were workers about. Found it easily whilst having a look at the ruins of the house. Thanks for bringing me here.
Catching up on old logs, seem to have forgotten a few. Found with Lekker_Ding on our way home from Launceston. Thanks.
Extremely easy find - btw the railway crossing is no longer... but easy walk to cache.
But what a great history! Just standing here and trying to imagine the hussle and bussle. The train coming in, the smell and noise. The horses, the people, the pub nights that you could associate with places like this. Taken back in time.. thanks! Fav for me!

We've just been spending a couple of days in Launceston visiting friends, and as always we've made sure to take a little time to pick up a few caches!
We've been back and forth to Launceston a few times this year, and each time we've meant to stop for this cache but been put off either by time pressures, or by the ongoing roadworks in the area. Today we finally found ourselves with an opportunity!
It's definitely an interesting little spot! Although the ruins can easily be spotted from the road, it's not quite the same as actually taking the time to make the little detour and get out of the car for a good look. With all the traffic along the road and the ongoing roadworks, it seems likely there are few people who stop to pay a visit, so thanks for giving us an excuse to do so!

Tassie Trip Day 135 - Well after making the trip into Hobart on the wrong day to see the wooden boats on our return after doing some shopping for a few thing we made our way back to Ross and along the way made a few stops.
We stopped here on our return to ross from hobart to do the rest area stuff and made our way to GZ and after short search the cache was had and the log signed.
Thanks Cached for this place to stop and cache.

Thank for the last person on the info where to pull off the highway with all the road works going. Very interesting place. I didn’t even know it was here.
Well Cached the roadworks are still happening but the road to this little cache and the halfway house is open and available for travel. The turnoff for this little tube is around 450m South of the hide. Parking is around 100m from GZ and is quite a nice stroll over the tracks to the gate of the very historic remains of the Halfway House. TFTC Cached, it was interesting to note that this cache was found on the 5th Jan but not logged yet. No room for swaps but did notice a pen sitting next to cache, had my own so don't know whether it works or not
I drove past this, not knowing, with the roadwork here, how to stop to find this. Maybe the roadwork explains why the last find was in July.
We actually came and found this a year ago but forgot to log it. Today we realised as we were driving past and I was showing my husband - looking at all the roadworks I’m not sure you would not be able to get to it at present.
UNREAL HISTORY ! Absolutely love here, we really wanted to roam the paddock and see what’s there but being private property we thought better of it.
Thanks so much for placing this cache !!!
Another great day with the Tassie boys GOOSE AND SSRAT.

Looked at the instructions on the listing and upon driving on Highway 1, noticed the turn off. You can't actually cross the railway track now in the car, but no problems as you can cross on foot, and it's only a short walk to GZ if you leave your car just before the tracks. A nice quick find and TFTC.
After completing the Apple today with Gridge98 on our way home stopped in to collect some caches!
On the way home from doing the Apple with JLROCKSTAR we called in to get some caches on the way home! This was and easy find TFTC
Day twelve of our holiday in Tassie. Bettyboo3747 and I are traveling from Oatlands to Low Head.
Stopped in at the historical towns and admired all the convict buildings, and collected a few caches.
Great article of the history of this location - not a lot left to see!
We drove off the highway, and the road is closed at the rail, but the cache was only about a 100 meters away.
You could smell the wild fennel as you walked to the cache.
Thanks, Robmc.

#14381. Day 12 of our 3 week holiday in Tasmania. Today Robmc and I left our cute cottage in Oatlands and travelled north to Low Head. We enjoyed our stops at Tunbridge, Ross and Campbell Town, collecting a few caches and admiring the beautiful convict built bridges and architecture along the way.
I like cache placements with interesting history attached so we detoured in to this one and parked on the roadside of the railway track as the road has been blocked off. We walked past all the wild fennel and colourful rosehips to GZ for a quick retrieval of the cache. It does need maintenance as the log sheet is full and incredibly tatty. I took some photos of the ruins and wished there was more of it intact, but thanks for bringing us to this site today.
Thanks Cached

Over the years, geocaching has taken me on many adventures, including interesting destinations all over my home continent of Australia and many overseas as well. It has also introduced me to a diverse group of like-minded caching tragics, many of whom I now call close friends.
Today, I was lucky enough to be out and about searching for caches, something I do on almost a daily basis. This was one cache that was targeted and found.
Sorry for the late and generic log, something I am notorious for. Thank you Cachedfor adding to the adventure that is geocaching.

What a most unexpected little get away.....I needed some R&R and the lovely micaparamedic needed to cache in Tassie to meet a challenge cache's requirements, soooo a plan was quickly hatched and we were on our way.
Gary was good enough to do all of the driving (a real treat for me) so I just relaxed as we explored various beautiful locations that Tassie has to offer.....and we even picked up a cache or two. [^]
The weather was fantastic, the food was delicious, and I was delighted to catch up with some very special people.
Thanks so much for the cache Cached!

Finally got around to doing some logging. Travelling around in Tasmania and grabbing some caches along the way. TFTC
Easy find.
Log book looks like it has had some water damage & tatty may need to be replaced.

Found. Nice easy find. Mr TSJL position the car so he found it first. Picked where the cache was before even getting out of the car. Mr TSJL forgot to look for trains on the way in. But mrs TSJL made sure to look on the way out.
Had 'sailed' from the deep south in treacherous and icy seas very early this morning with Lil Rafa and AlbyDangles to attend the "Th' lost loot o' Mary Hyde" event at Trevallyn Tailrace Park, for some piratey fun and cacher catch-up.
Afterwards we 3 then dropped anchor many times to search for other treasures during the voyage homewards, this beng one such stop.
Still a bit cold here as the day draws to a close, but not as freezing as it was thru here this morning!
Thanks for the history Cached, and for the cache. I can remember driving the old highway here, as well as some fairly faded memory of travelling as a young child on the Tasman Limited passenger train. Earlier this afternoon we passed thru Western Junction, where the Southern line and the NorthWestern line converge, and have very vivid childhood memories of the line from there thru to Launceston, at Inveresk.
Thanks again.

After attending an event earlier in the day in Launceston with EeePees and AlbyDangles we decided to stop and log some caches on our return trip home. This one was a very short detour off the highway and a quick find. Thanks for placing a cache here Cached.
Apologies for the delay in posting our log. We've just had a great 16 day holiday in Tassie. Now back home on the mainland it's time to log our 108 finds of the trip.
This one found on our first day on the Island on our way to Hobart from Devonport.

Easy find, not so easy to turn off the road. Its a 110km section with no turning lane. If you're coming from the south, it is about 4 km from St Peters Pass Rest Area. Start slowing when you see the guard rails, coz the road you want passes through it.
Came past last week but did not get a chance to log it till now.
Love the history behind these places along the road.
Found cache OK and now know how to walk through so many thistles without getting spiked
