Logs

I was up this way a couple of days ago to attempt a couple of FTFs but due to the lost time hunting them out I didn't walk through this far. It's so beautiful up here that I promised the Mrs I'd bring her up here today - and so it transpired. The moment we stepped out of the car and donned our daypacks it started to spit with rain.Forty minutes later at the hut for lunch it's teeming down, but not as heavy - or cold (10C) - as when we arrived back at the car. While eating lunch I wandered off to see if I could find this cache. Exactly as hinted. First log online in 592 days although I note a finder in the log back on 04/Jan.All good here - dry and secure. TFTC

The family decided to go for a walk that might work for our 5 year old. Poppa also came along too. On the way we looked out for some good geocaching hiding places as well. At the hut we searched and searched, searching the building above the washing sink, and also behind the sink up in the woods. No luck anywhere. The only place we wonder if it may have been was up under the roof near the sink.

found it after a while. helps if you read the hint correctly!

nice place, still remember the old lodge from the late 1980's and carrying in a table from the road end with my venturer scout group.

A lovely walk in to here today and had the place to ourselves for lunch before heading back to the car. Took a little while to work this one out but got there in the end - tftc

A friend of mine pointed out there was an unfound cache at Iron Gate hut, so I decided to make my way there, and while at it, try out an overnight tramp with my 50L pack. Turned out the 50L was actually 42, and frankly, too small for an overnighter with all the emergency gear. In fact I had to leave some of the emergency gear out, but then I knew this was going to be good weather so I wasn't too concerned. Anyhoo, Got to Alice Nash without problem, stopped for a snack and a quick chat with an Air Force buddy from back in the day who happened to be there with his family. Grabbed the cache, dropped in a path tag, emerald and a favourite.
Rather a nice hut. Last time I was here was about 35 years ago. Did it look the same then?

Thanks Clare&John for placing this cache
Passing thru with Mel (Hummmus) on a drizzly wet day enroute to Iron Gate hut...
This beaut hut is great for families looking for a tramp that kids under-five could manage.
Took a look around the hinted area and and soon found this nice dry cache in a secure and logical place.

I was a bit apprehensive about looking for a cache that supposedly hadn’t been found in a very long time, after packing the family up with packs and accessories needed for an overnighter we headed in and tried our hand at finding the cache. We gleaned some fragments of info from those who had come before as well as the hint but with Miss5 retreating from the rain and hubby who ‘doesn’t do this sort of thing’ being no help it was up to me to poke around for the cache. Sadly not found but many many places it could be especially when thinking outside the box. Hope we can return one day for another look

Had a look around but no luck for us today.

One of the Jr Cachers was doing their Bronze DOE practice tramp to Iron Gates hut and so Mr All7ofusNZ tagged along to Alice Memorial hut to grab a couple of caches in the area. Wasn't immediately obvious where the hide was initially and the hint didn't really assist until giving the general area a good look over. Spotted a potential hiding location and found the cache safely tucked away. All in good order, TFTC.

Spent a couple of evenings here with our new rifle. Plenty of sign and nice area to explore. Quite a few people about though. TFTC

Sveppi and I have been here for 3 days, trying to hunt. We are experienced trampers but new at hunting. Set off for several morning and evening walks with the rifle. No success shooting, but plenty of sign, fun and adventure. Before we leave I must remember the cache! GPS sent me for a wander, and for a bit I somehow struggled to make sense of the hint, but with a good look around and taking my time there was only one place it could be. Nice and dry, thanks.

Awesome hut in an awesome location. We ventured into here on Good Friday to find the Kiwi Guardian Post. The kids are excited to earn their 11th medal. The cache itself is in excellent condition and located exactly where described. Thanks. A FP from us.

We hiked out here for the night and had the hut to ourself. The cache was an easy find with the clue. You just need to be looking in the right spot to get it.

Its still there and in good condition from when it was last found 2 years ago.

We had a good look but with no success. Meet a local who had helped build the original hut, he said there use to be memorabilia relating to Alice in a container where we expected to find the cache, but over time it was pilfered.

Good find after a very warm and comfortable night in this lovely hut. Cache all good, but no sign of the trackables mentioned here. TFTC

Our first overnight tramp as a family, decided not to go too far. Nice and tidy hut to stay in.

We're not sure about the "gentle stroll", as after walking down to the bridge from the car park, we were not looking forward to the return trip. The bridge was unusual to say the least. Then onward and upward to the lodge which is a modern and attractive looking building, with the sun streaming onto the verandah today. We took a wee while to find the nicely hidden cache due to some confusion as to whether the hint referred to object or person, but we got there in the end. TFTC

Well back to the hut at long last as this is where it all started from (geocaching that is).We came here with some friends 13 months ago and stayed the night, during our stay a father and son called into the hut on their way from irongate (and they were geocaching) they said there was a cache at the hut which they found and showed us and the rest is history as we now have almost 1500 caches and own a few of our own as well as some trackables we have definitley got the bug and wow what some amazing places that geocaching has taken us too. Thank-you for placing this cache

Found when out with the Wednesday group from the Manawatu Tramping and Skiing Club. After exploring the Stoat Line track and visiting the camp ground by the river this was a good place for a late lunch. The cache was soon in hand but you would not want to be too short to reach it. Left a TB - Mountain Warehouse - so hope it does not sit here too long as it gets cold in the winter. TFTC Clare&John.

Neatly hidden in a dry place. Thanks Clare&John, this was a pleasant spot to enjoy a morning coffee stop on the verandah in the sunshine.

Took a little while to find. Added some extra swaps for any children that make it up there. TFTF.

Logged this one on the way out after a 2 night tramping trip with son and husband. Took the opportunity to fill up our water bottles here. Nice hut! We may stay here some other time. Cache was and easy find. My son picked up at travel bug. TFTC

After a nudge from a recent finder decided to try for this one again. Carpark at the top was heaving with vehicles but the hut was fairly quiet except for a bloke cooking sausages at GZ. Took advantage of a distraction to make the grab and pass to the waiting nightowl19 who did the signing. Replaced nonchalantly whilst distracting the chef
TFTC, got this third cache up here now thankfully

We were doing a tiki tour in the countryside picking up some caches, so decided we'd have a bit of a run on this beautiful track to grab this one as well.
There was no one here so we were able to search un hindered, which was just as well, because it took us a while to track down.
The log book was signed in April 2013 by a muggle, who said he found it because something caught his eye. He must have a very keen eye, because we had trouble spotting it, & we knew it was there - somewhere.
A great place to put a cache, in a beautiful area.
Left a pet rock - a koala. TFTC

Too hard to find today, many muggles in residence and too curious for me to give it a good looking for
Nice walk to a lovely hut though

2TF!! Up here with a cubs walking trip. Enjoyed the scenery and chance to puff a bit more than usual. 1 person here when we first arrived, then the cubs, some hunters and another school group of teenagers - so a busy spot! Good on them for replacing the hut here. Id-ed another junior cacher in the cubs group and helped him retrieve cache and sign the log too. Cool TFTC

My son logged this one with the help of Swaybars69, thanks for the cache

Amazed that it took so long for someone to find this cache.

High intensity muggles when we arrived, but a clever hiding spot. Found with Kaikawaka, Pippistratus, Muac_CH et al.

FTF!

Joint first-to-find with chucky3, MUAC-CH, Pipistratus and others, at the end of a great day out in the hills going up Toka and down Tunupo, with lunch at Toka biv. Chucky3 was the one to spot the cache. Thanks.

FTF with my team mates after a long day in the hills!
